Just a word of advice, have some ice packs ready for when engorgement strick a few days after having your baby!!

sparklez186 · 14/06/2015 23:17

Hi Wonky, dd was 25 months when her sister was born, when I was in early labour my friend took her out for the morning while me and dh went for a walk to get things moving, then she had a nap when she got home. After her nap contractions were getting stronger and closer so we called midwife. We were with one to one then as well and had two midwives plus a student so it could have been a bit crowded but they're really hands off so I laboured in the pool in front room while they all drank tea and watched tumble tots with dd in the back room. When I felt the urge to push dh told the main midwife who came into the room the other two stayed with dd watching Spot! they kept putting head round door to see ho things were going and as I was fairly noisy dd kept coming in to check things out but just asked if I was OK and stroked my arm a bit then wandered back out! (I was in the zone by this point so didn't really notice any of this going on) just before her sister was born dd got out all her musical instruments and was playing her harmonica (badly) as she was born, it was very sweet and I loved having her there. We had a list of people we would call depending on time of day but I was very keen to have her there and it worked well for us, established labour was only 3.5 hours so dh was able to give her some tea after while I lay on bed with baby and placenta was born then midwives left and he took baby so I could do her bedtime like normal. Then grandparents came round about half 8 to meet baby and give us cake. Not sure what we'll do this time, would quite like a night time baby so the others can sleep through it so that's what I'm visualising from now on. Think mental readiness has huge amount to do with it, sure that's why I went a few days over, had a daytime labour which is unusual and contractions didn't ramp up until dd woke from her nap.

Sorry it's so long!

orangemouth281 · 15/06/2015 08:06

I can confirm the boob thing will get worse not better, I remember walking to work in the winter when pregnant with DD thinking my nipples were gonna fall off cos they were burning so much!

Scan tomorrow and I am sooooo nervous!

edinburghdancer · 15/06/2015 11:14

Hallelujah - 3rd trimester reached. I am now 12+1 but loaded with the cold! So feeling better in terms of nausea and dizziiness/motion sickness but now can't breath. I thought it was hayfever and spoke to a woman in Boots who gave me a brand new product designed for pregnant women and athletes - totally drug free. I almost cried on her. Now I could cry again that it's not and I'm back to just being a snotty mess!!

Chops, Cheshire, Chandlers - hope you start feeling a bit better and keeping stuff down soon. (weird you all start with a C!).

Metal - got fx you get good results on Friday and can relax and enjoy the weekend.

Withalittlesparkle · 15/06/2015 11:28

Sorry to burst your bubble Edinburgh but you have to go through the second trimester first!!

edinburghdancer · 15/06/2015 11:56

oops Blush. Clear evidence of baby brain and why I should not be at work trying to figure out the finer details of mortgage regulation and contingent liabilities (don't even ask - I've lost the ability to explain!).

chopsface · 15/06/2015 12:25

Maybe I should change my name.....?

chopsface · 15/06/2015 13:33

Lol Edinburgh I didn't even notice that!

2nd trimester still not being nice to me :-( don't even know whether to call myself 14 weeks from my scan or 13+1 from own dates. Been a bit tearful today from incompetent GP and sickness.

How are you fellow late onset sickness sufferer Cheshire?

edinburghdancer · 15/06/2015 14:59

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

I've just read the header post at the same time as polishing off an entire packet of tangfastics! I opened it to have one after lunch as a little treat but I was still starving, so at the lot. Blush

I'll have some fruit later....... honest!!

WonkyDonkBonk · 15/06/2015 15:43

Sparklez thank you so much for your home birth story, it really has made me think seriously about it as that sounds so lovely.

I had my 12 week scan this morning and I'm pleased to report all is well. It was a really really long scan as it was the sonographer's first ever scan so he did everything and then the lady teaching him did everything again so we got to see loads. They also flipped the machine to 3D at the end for a minute. All in all we were in there for about an hour! Then they sent us away for a bit to wait for the blood results and gave us our risk of downs as 1:5021. It was fantastic. We had our DD in there with us who is 2.5. We hadn't told her previously about the baby just in case. She told the sonographer that the baby will be her best friend. Aww.

Sorry for the me me me post. Orange good luck for tomorrow.

firsttime2015 · 15/06/2015 17:05

hi folks, looking for some advice re: some worrying test results...

at 12 weeks and 4 days my results were as follows:

my papp a was .1666 MoM; hcg 1.35 MoM

Scan was all totally "normal" - nothing of concern to sonographer and yet my risk of DS came back at 1/12 and trisomy 13/18 at 1/39. (I'm 38).

i had the harmony blood test done on friday and now have to wait for those results. just wondering if anyone has had similar numbers and still had a good and positive outcome?

Metalhead · 15/06/2015 17:12

firsttime I can't tell you the outcome yet but I'm in a similar position: scan all good, but hcg was 9.12 mom and Papp-a 0.7 mom, giving me a risk of 1:85 for Down's. I had the Harmony test last Tuesday and am hoping to get the rests on Friday as I'm slowly but surely losing the plot with all this waiting and uncertainty! Fx we'll both get good news soon.

Jebel · 15/06/2015 17:25

Sorry, I have been so rubbish. Will catch up on all the news.

firsttime hope all is ok, I just did harmony so didn't get any other results. Hope your harmony comes back with the right outcome.

metal you must be going mad, not long now. Keeping everything crossed for you.

chopsface · 15/06/2015 18:47

I've no idea what those figures mean! I was just given one number for Downs.

Good luck tomorrow orange!

Cariad2014 · 15/06/2015 19:09

Firsttime - sorry you're going through such a worrying time. Although Low PAPP A can be a marker for chromosomal abnormalities, my own Google reaearch when I was worried about my own results suggests that bloods can be unusual for a variety of reasons. The odds are still very much in your favour.

I shall be thinking of you. Fx you get your Harmony results soon.

Cheshirehello79 · 15/06/2015 21:56

I'm bad ........... :-( I've now got this terrible sensitive smell that anything around me makes me puke . I'm struggling keep anything down , we can't cook iñn the house cause that sets of off too I've literally been living on watermelon - phoned midwife she said nothing of great concern it's just hormones - seriously !!!! I'm going see her next week for 16 weeks scan but if this continues will have to go gp as I can't eat anything and fear for beanster that not getting any nutrition .... Why mee!!!! :-(

chopsface · 16/06/2015 09:11

Oh Cheshire you sound exactly like me! We don't know how long this phase is going to last so I say get and see your GP. If you are not keeping anything down you run the risk of dehydration, make sure you keep an eye on your pee colour. The kind ladies on the hyperemesis thread said something called ketostix can be bought from the chemist, send your dh out for some. If you have ketones you need to get yourself to A&E luv. I am swearing by these tablets the GP has given me, they are called Avomine and are the first port of call for severe sickness. I have upped my dose to 2 a day and I wasn't sick once yesterday! I've got myself signed off work and I presume you are off too?! A warning though these pills are making me quite groggy and dopey at certain times of the day but that is preferable to vomming. Try ice cubes, ice lollies too. I found I was ok first thing and could eat a decent breakfast, do you have any better times for food intake? I hope things improve for you soon x x

Everyone else ok this morning?

ThreeBeanRap · 16/06/2015 09:27

Cheshire sorry to hear you're still feeling rubbish, watermelon sounds like a great idea for now though, at least it contains lots of fluids and is healthy. Maybe try other melon and fruits? I'd go back to the GP as well but try not to worry too much, although it must be horrible for you the baby is good at getting nutrients from you wherever it can find them!

orangemouth281 · 16/06/2015 19:01

Scan was all good! The sonographer didn't say a lot but everything looked normal so far. My due date has been moved to 21st December and my 20 week scan is booked for 6th August. I think I will join the facebook group now, do I just PM afloat?

Hummingbird15 · 16/06/2015 20:39

Hi, Metal I thought of you today, I've had Harmony twice now as it didn't work first time. But both times I had the test late Friday afternoon and got the results ( or lack of results the first time) On the Tuesday a week and a half later, I think that ties in with the timings you're hoping for, so fingers crossed they are as quick for you, and that you get some reassuring results. I got our results today and we're having a boy!

Metalhead · 16/06/2015 21:28

That's good to know humming. Glad you got your results in the end, and congratulations on finding out it's a boy!

Also good news on your scan orange.

I've got a really bad headache again tonight and I'm so sick of it. I'm supposed to be about 15 weeks now (depending on which scan you go by), I just want to feel normal again! Angry

Metalhead · 17/06/2015 10:26

Just got the results - all low risk, and we're having another girl!! Grin

MarkingMyPlace9 · 17/06/2015 10:55

Congrats Metal!

edinburghdancer · 17/06/2015 11:35

Oh that's so good Metal. So happy for you!

chopsface · 17/06/2015 11:40

Congrats metal! Hope you've kept all the hand me downs!?
