Midwife appointment this morning went well, BP and urine all ok and got to listen to baby's heartbeat again. Was also pleased to find out the uterus is up to my belly button already, so I guess not all of my expanding waistline is fat and bloat anymore! Smile

I've also finally felt a bit better the last few days, and I think I'm starting to feel early movements, though I'm still not quite sure; with DD1 I had the bubbles popping sensation, but this time it's more a sort of squirming feeling.

Cheshirehello79 · 23/06/2015 14:18

Great news metal mine is thur so hope all is well. I've noticed that my private line has now elongated and it right up to my boobs - has anyone noticed theirs?

MissMrsMummy · 23/06/2015 18:32

hat I have had twinges in my abdomen and I rang EPU but they said it's normal at this stage. It could also be a uti so I might go to the GP.

Do they test urine at 12 weeks scan? Will they take more blood?

missmrs - every appointment I've been so far that was 8 weeks and 12 weeks they took urine sample and bloods . Apparently bloods stop at 12 weeks but you have to take urine sample every visit to midwife ( fun:-)

Withalittlesparkle · 23/06/2015 20:41

Missmrs I'm sorry you've had a bit of a worry but it's probably just stretching pains.

Yes take a urine sample to every midwife appointment

MissMrsMummy · 23/06/2015 20:46

Ok thanks. So hopefully they will do a urine sample tomorrow and it might show an infection. When I went to the loo at my booking in, there was wee everywhere from people missing the pot! Yuck.

Bloods again, wah. Should be getting used to it now!

Mrs - what I've done is I've asked for the urine sample pots and have them at home so before my appointments I do the deed at home and just take the sample in . See if they can supply you with some

MissMrsMummy · 24/06/2015 08:03

cheshire that's a fab idea! Thanks Grin

HatOnline · 24/06/2015 14:01

Missm yes I was told it could be uti as well, good luck!

Metalhead · 24/06/2015 16:29

I did that too last time cheshire with the wee samples as they only gave you those little test tube things - I mean who on earth can pee in those?! Thankfully this time round they seem to have switched to plastic cups which I find much easier to aim for.

MissMrsMummy · 24/06/2015 18:45

Here they give a small plastic bowl thing (tiny) which has a pourer which you can pour the wee into the tube (also tiny)!

How's everyone feeling this morning? I'm 18 weeks today! And wearing my first bit of maternity clothing - I got paid today so am very excited about buying a load more! The last week I have not been able to wear my normal jeans at all so I'm very excited about a trip to Topshop!

Metalhead · 25/06/2015 15:20

I've been wearing maternity jeans since week 10 threebean! Grin (Though some of my more loose-fitting trousers still just about fit now.) I'm going shopping too tomorrow as I need a new holiday wardrobe, we're going away in six weeks when I'll be 22 weeks so I'm anticipating a decent-sized bump by then. Plus I'm not sure any of my swimwear is compatible with my pregnancy boobs...

I'm really tired today, had to get up three times again last night to wee, stupid bladder!

Cheshirehello79 · 25/06/2015 15:51

Hi everyone - hope the heat is not causing lots of problems ...
Been to see midwife today 16 weeks app though I'm exactly 17 weeks today and all bloods came out excellent apart from iron - which had to do another blood test for them to monitor that and if it's still low they'll put me on supplements. Maybe that explains why the bad headaches and sickness on my early 2nd trimester . Anyways I'm feeling ok and relief and looking forward to 20 weeks scan in 3 weeks. Midwife didn't make us little to the heart beat but did ask .. The answer was it wasn't their routine app on 16 weeks :-(

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone - I'm going to celebate with mc dees :-) and p.s wore my maternity top and leggings today

Sleepybeanbump · 26/06/2015 08:04

Hello everyone, I posted on the first thread but then went quiet.

I've been lucky - no real sickness. Had 12w scan last week and EDD is now 27th dec- they moved it back a few days although I know they're wrong. It was our wedding anniversary the week of conception and we only DTD once! We're absolutely certain of the date.

Also had private scan and harmony at fetal medicine centre. Scan risk came back as 1.6000. My hospital is actually one of the ones trialling harmony for high risk but I'm really glad I had the whole lot private. My Nhs risk would have come back as 1:600 which would have put me in high risk. Yes, I'd have had the harmony for free but longer to wait and the stress of thinking I was high risk to start with!

I feel like I'm far too laid back about the whole thing. I only properly read all the info about downs screening a week before the scan- and then suddenly decided I want the extra private ones!

Has anyone booked ante natal classes yet? Midwife said they get booked up so do it early but haven't yet.

I haven't bought a thing yet! We won't be decorating nursery as we're going to move soon. It's very neutral at the moment so will look nice with baby stuff in there.

chopsface · 26/06/2015 08:53

No one has mentioned antenatal classes to me or how to book them. I presumed the midwife did it for you later on? Is that not the case? What happens if they are all full?! How many nhs sessions do you get? And when and where do they normally take place? Day/evening? Hospital/'village hall'? Worried about not being able to get to any as I don't have access to a car during the day as dh takes it to work. Unless dh is coming of course. Do partners come to them? Will he be allowed time off work? Argh! So much I don't know!

ThreeBeanRap · 26/06/2015 09:27

metalhead I would have got maternity jeans a LOT earlier if I'd have known how uncomfortable I'd get! Going to order some bits online today and go shopping at the weekend.

chops and sleepy I live in one county and am having the baby in another (we live right on a border) so neither trust will pay for my NHS classes!! So we have booked NCT which start in September. It may vary by area but my midwife said to book NCT by about 16 weeks as they get very booked up, so if you want to go down that route I'd look into it asap.

Withalittlesparkle · 26/06/2015 09:37

Threebeans you should be offered antenatal classes wherever you are booked in to give birth! I'm in a similar situation different nhs trusts doing my community care and where I plan to give birth

chopsface · 26/06/2015 10:43

Hmmm I'm also over the border from the hospital I'm giving birth in, but I don't think my county has any other funding as there is no hospital in it. I have midwife appointment next Thursday so need to ask about it there.

As I've been off sick for 3 weeks the boss says he needs a fitness to work letter from the GP. I can't get one until Monday so can't go to work on Monday! Shame....

Sleepybeanbump · 26/06/2015 11:07

Chops I'm about as confused as you about the ante natal classes. There are loads, some Nhs, some nct, some other things, some longer, some shorter, some just one single session.

I have a wad of leaflets. I'm off sick today (hideous cold verging on flu) and am trying to muster up energy to wade through them. The midwife was a bit grumpy with me when I said I didn't understand how they all worked. The paperwork is insane, I find. Stuff contradicts other things, info is randomly split up between different leaflets.

I'm up to date with my big 'pregnancy week by week' book I bought now at least though!

Sleepybeanbump · 26/06/2015 11:32

So everything I read suggested that hospitals run courses of free classes. Nothing free in the stuff I'd been given so look online. Yes, there are free 'local classes', contact community team. My area not listed.

Ring them. I'm not 'in area' (despite being about 2 miles away, and it being my closest hospital!) so the only classes available to me are charged.

This is London fgs!

Metalhead · 26/06/2015 13:15

I wouldn't worry too much about antenatal classes, they're good for meeting people but other than that you're not going to miss out on any crucial information IMO. You can read about all the important bits (like the different stages of labour) yourself, and anything else (like practising your breathing) will probably just go out the window anyway!

Obviously you should still be offered a place, but I'm just trying to reassure anyone who might think they're absolutely vital to giving birth...

Cheshirehello79 · 26/06/2015 13:22

I had all my antenatal classes booked when I went for my 12 weeks app at the hospital counter they gave me option of weekday or weekends and mine are all booked weekends I think I have 3 booked session for 3 hours . I also booked myself for breastfeeding classes and that included first aid classes so got 4 all together booked sometime in November and that's through nhs

ThreeBeanRap · 26/06/2015 15:49

My midwife definitely said I wouldn't get any free. I'll chase it up with her though. I agree with metalhead, we're mainly doing them because we only moved to our town a year ago and don't have many 'baby' friends I could hang out with on mat leave.

chopsface · 26/06/2015 15:55

I would hope to meet 'mummy friends' too at antenatal classes. None of my friends are at the same stage as me, either have old kids or no boyfriends!

I probably would find out a lot of stuff from online and from you lot!
