Morning All! Grin

This is going to be a very selfish post all about me and Daisy, so apologies in advance, it's not that I don't care about the rest of you but I have a PFB snoozing next to me!!

So, all is fine, she is absolutely tiny compared to prediction though, even allowing for being over 2 weeks early she's on the 7th percentile rather than being bang on 50th which is what all the scans had said.

It looks like it was the right thing to do to coax her out early though - my BP was still going higher, she obviously wasn't growing properly any more, and after 5 of induction gel pessaries I started bleeding huge clots of something, so they broke my waters and started me on the drip that got us up to 4 cm pretty quickly but her heart rate kept dipping below 100 for a minute or so at a time. A fetal blood sample from the top of her head showed borderline oxygen levels - one of the three samples were bang on the critical level, one above and one below. At which point I was given the choice of carrying on labour (which was officially progressing well at that stage) but risking crash section if her heart rate kept misbehaving, or going for semi-planned section with 15 minute warning before she got too far down. Also found out at that point that she was back to back as well... So we went for the section!

Which ended up under GA as epidural by that point was working perfectly down one side and not at all on the other. Which was very odd to hear as I'd had virtually no contraction pain at all, so had assumed it was working perfectly. They tried for about ten mins to get a spinal in, but apparently there was a ligament in the wrong place so eventually they stopped the stabby acupuncture on my back and knocked me out Grin

Next I know DP is waving a tiny baby at me! So he got first cuddles and first feed before I'd even woken up (he says I did open my eyes and whinge about being too asleep to see everything - so he put my glasses back on - and then I whinged about being told to close my eyes again because I didn't want to miss anything, but that must have been a good half hour before I actually woke up!!). Apparently I lost a bit more blood than normal (1.4 litres) but didn't need transfusion and felt much perkier once they'd actually turned on the saline drip and not just hung it next to me!!

So all is wonderful. And all of yesterday's dramas forgotten Smile. Apparently she is feeding and pooing beautifully and everyone is happy with her Grin (especially me) Grin

Thanks for all the congrats and good wishes Smile

ShootTheMoon · 20/08/2015 07:53

Morning ditzzy! Oh that's quite a birth story, I hope it wasn't too scary to live through but it sounds like you were well consulted throughout, and in your position I think I would have gone for the CS too! She may seem tiny but I'm sure she'll grow quickly!

Do you have someone picking up tiny baby clothes for you?

Hope the recovery from the GA isn't too rough - remember that it will make you feel wonky for a few days so don't expect too much of yourself Smile

Enjoy those cuddles!

sauvblanc21 · 20/08/2015 07:54

Woohoo! Congratulations and very well done ditzzy :) Such wonderful news! Hope you're healing beautifully and enjoying your well earned time with baby Daisy! Xxx

p.s. Hi all again, I've been rubbish at mumsnetting latterly, I'm gonna get better again now! 5 weeks to go!

ditzzy · 20/08/2015 08:14

Thanks Ladies!!

The docs (and midwives!) were all amazing - particularly the consultant in charge in delivery. She understood that I wanted to know everything they were doing upfront and exactly what was being planned and why, and kept me perfectly informed. It was a shame she ended up signing off on the section but not performing it, as she had to leave but she made a point of coming in to see me while they were prepping me for theatre and saying thanks for being a good patient! So I thanked her too - and questioned whether me generally swearing at her every time she examined me could really count as being good. She laughed and looked like she went home happy with her nights work - clearly a lady who loves her job!!

I can't say enough good things about the NHS for the treatment I've had over the past few days Smile

And yes, we have some tiny baby clothes in our mass of hand-me-downs. DP has been sent home to wash a few though as I thought she'd never fit them Grin

ShootTheMoon · 20/08/2015 09:29

Oh I'm so pleased for you, the team sounds lovely Smile

misssmilla1 · 20/08/2015 16:03

Aww, what a great story, sounds like it went well! How long are they keeping you in for?

GoooRooo · 20/08/2015 17:17

Great story Ditzzy!

For anyone who isn't a member of the Facebook group but would like to be, if you PM me your email address I can invite you that way. We're a chatty bunch on there :)

ditzzy · 21/08/2015 08:15

Hopefully going home today Grin

All is looking good. I hope everyone else is doing well this morning too?

I'm still enjoying the anonymous nature of MN over the FB group, but good to hear a report that everyone is doing well over there too!

GoooRooo · 21/08/2015 09:09

There's been three babies born on the FB group so far, and another three today it looks like!

Glad to hear you get to go home and get settled Smile

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 21/08/2015 09:23

Congratulations Ditzzy, funny how quickly the drama gets forgotten when you've a snuggly bundle to look at Grin

ARV1981 · 21/08/2015 15:45

Huge congratulations ditzzy! Glad you're both ok.

FeelTheNoise · 22/08/2015 15:48

I've PMd you GoooRooo!

GoooRooo · 22/08/2015 18:02

Got it - have now added everyone who has pm'ed me over the last couple of days.

BeautyBoo · 22/08/2015 18:33

Congratulations Ditzzy! Hope you managed to get home ok yesterday and are settling in well at home with your lovely baby girl Smile

Treaclepie19 · 23/08/2015 00:27

ditzzy congratulations and well done. Hope you are tucked at at home now. I'm also staying off the FB group for now, like to stay anonymous.

Now 36 + 3, which is 5 days further along than I got with DS2, getting very hopeful of avoiding NICU / SCBU and of getting out within 24 hours (despite it being a CS). I've got a scan on Tuesday, at which point we'll discuss steroids in case of a delivery before 39 weeks. Hoping we make it to my planned date though as by then my new kitchen, windows and bathrooms will be in and useable!

Matilda30 · 24/08/2015 10:06

Congrats ditzzy! So lovely to see news of the babies arriving.

I'm the same re the Facebook group- I'd quite like to be anonymous and do you lose that with the fb group?

I have a date for meeting my little one (ELCS) -14th Sep. Hopefully he waits that long as I'm nowhere near ready!

Good luck everyone with your births xxx

ShootTheMoon · 26/08/2015 09:07

How are you getting on ditzzy? Hope you're healing quickly Smile

I'm 36+6. I have had major Braxton Hicks for the last week or so (and throughout). Since about 4pm yesterday they have been very frequent - more than every 15 mins, sometimes every few mins. And I spent 3-5am awake with BHs accompanied by period pains into my legs and back - I didn't have cramps BHs last time so this is all new!

I very much want to get to Sept now if possible. Anyone else been having anything like this? I presume it can go on for ages if not developing into contractions? I hope so as DH is working 12 hour days this week and as he's flying it's not easy to get him home!!

Treaclepie19 · 26/08/2015 18:01

Yeah shoot, I've been having it too.
They get really regular and only a few mins apart then suddenly go off or change.

ShootTheMoon · 26/08/2015 20:02

Isn't it weird treacle?! I am very used to BHs - from very early weeks this time - but the cramping is pretty new. I'd sooner not have four weeks of this!

ditzzy · 27/08/2015 09:21

Hi Girls! Yes, everything still going well here, blood pressure has stayed down (without meds) so I'm almost ready to be signed out of extra midwife care, healing nicely and dd is a little dream (if we ignore the poo-explosion last night Grin). We did make it home on the Friday afternoon, I can't believe that's nearly a week ago already.

I hope you're all coping well with the last few weeks, constant BHs sound a complete pain, I'd have been permanently in a state of believing action was imminent if that had been happening!
