Ooh! Congratulations! Not surprised you're knackered: I was after our wedding and I wasn't 6 months pregnant!

sauvblanc21 · 30/05/2015 22:22

Ooo lots of lovely activity on here :) Thanks for mattress advice guys, for the sake of £100 I think I'll buy a new one but like the idea of keeping the old one for soft play - thanks for suggestion :)
Hello newbies! Welcome! And congratulations Deladion - gorgeous news!
We're Team Yellow but everyone (including me and hubbo) seems to think baby will be blue! No idea why! My mum thinks girl though so at least if it is a wriggly little lady in there, Grandma is fighting her corner :) xxx

Congratulations deladion wonderful news!
Hope you're feeling better soon envious!
Monkey that's what I tend to say to people but I feel like they really dont believe me. Oh well, it doesnt matter what they think.Wink

Worked a late this evening. I'm shattered! Two months of this to do before I finish Grin It can't come quick enough.

monkeymoonpig · 31/05/2015 00:03

llama glad your son is now recovering, its just awful isnt it :'( DS has not long had his 7th poop of the day, screamed the house down because his bum is sore and he knows he has to be cleaned and cream put on, but thankfully is now flat out (currently on sofa next to me, not yet made it upstairs). I suspect he may be in with me tonight so i can keep an eye and poor DP will be in DS single bed with the aeroplane duvet set!
One of the hardest part of parenthood - not being able to take away your child's pain/upset Sad. Lots of mummy cuddles seem to help tho. Everything else has had to wait today - DS and his cuddles have been priority!

monkeymoonpig · 31/05/2015 00:04

Congrats deladion! That's fab news x

monkeymoonpig · 31/05/2015 00:06

I know what you mean donotdenyme, its like ppl think you're just saying it cos you should when actually i mean every word of it! Grrrr

DefinitelyNotElsa · 31/05/2015 07:42

One of my breasts leaked last night and I genuinely had no idea until DH pointed it out to me. ??

Unsurprisingly, I'm off to buy some breast pads this morning!

Maths88 · 31/05/2015 09:18

Elsa that's been happening to me for a couple of weeks. Freaked me out slightly the first time as I had no idea it would happen so soon - naive first timer!

Had a big splurge on baby clothes yesterday and actually think we might have all we need now for the first few months. Bought some plain essentials and some gorgeous patterned items.

Have none of the real essentials though as we have nowhere to store large items until we move and we move when I am 32 weeks - baby had best stay put!

ambientolf · 31/05/2015 11:08

maths I have bought everything for the baby but nowhere to put it as we aren't buying until March-ish next year. That will be fun with a 6 month old! Sad

This might sound like a daft question but I'm 25+3 and for the last 3 days the movement has increased a lot. I have an anterior placenta so it's often muffled but he seems to be moving constantly at night I.e. 9pm - 12pm which he didn't do before. Is this OK/the norm? I am just assuming as he's getting bigger I can feel it more.

Maths88 · 31/05/2015 11:15

Ambient I could have written your post about movement. I also have an anterior placenta and until recently I've had little movements and then the last few days I've felt loads! I also assume he's just getting bigger.

MummyBexta · 31/05/2015 11:19

Oh I didn't think about that - can't work out how to delete / edit post! Oops

ambientolf · 31/05/2015 11:24

maths ooh I'm glad I'm not the only one then. I worry about movement so much. Every milestone I hit seems to be replaced with something else to worry about unfortunately. I'm sure it won't stop even when he's 18 yrs old!

& mummy you can report your post and send a message to MNHQ to remove it if you want.

MummyBexta · 31/05/2015 11:27

Thanks for your advice. You can tell I'm new ;)

ARV1981 · 31/05/2015 11:44

Congratulations deladion!

I've decided not to buy the big stuff until July. I don't want it taking up too much space for one thing and for another, I am feeling superstitious about it and don't want to tempt fate...

I have however, got loads of little things... I've only bought one baby grow set thingy as it was in the sale Grin. Husband said "what do we need that for? Baby's not here for ages!" But when I pointed out that it was £4 instead of £8 he relented...

We've also been given four big bags of baby clothes, which I've washed and are now drying on the airers... I was also given a huge pile of cloth nappies, so have washed and sorted those. I got one of those nappy stacker things in the sale at dunhelm mill and they all fit! I've also got cheeky wipes (I don't want to use baby wipes as both me and dh get terrible eczema and so I assume baby will be prone too) so sorted all those and stored away in a cabinet ready for the birth!

I'm in two minds about a Moses basket... do you have to have one, or can baby sleep in the cot (feet to foot, I know) from day one? The pram I'm getting has a carry cot which apparently is suitable for sleeping in at night so if we have to have a Moses basket, can't I just use that instead? Thinking I don't want too much stuff (husband is a little bit of a hoarder), although we have a big loft, we rent and I hate the thought of moving (which might be inevitable if the landlady wants to move back in herself).

I'm also thinking about baby's room... not planning on him/her sleeping there for a while (I read somewhere that it's better to keep them in with you for the first year... not sure we'll do this, but maybe) but I still want it nice in there. Somewhere to go during the day as an alternative to the living room really. Also, my mum will probably stay over a fair bit at first so am getting a single bed for her use (which baby can then use when big enough). I plan on making it like a sofa during the day time so I can sit on it with baby...

I have only 8 weeks left at work... am freaking out a little as they haven't arranged cover for me, but as my counsellor says: that's their problem not mine. I'll help as much as I can to find someone but I think it will be difficult as I'm a specialist and it's a temporary role... ah well, not my concern until I go back (if I go back!)

ditzzy · 31/05/2015 12:33

ARV I'm planning to use the carry cot for sleeping instead of getting a Moses basket too - and then moving into the for after a couple of months (depending on how she sleeps...).

Also got the cheeky wipes!! Is never heard of them before I saw them at the baby show, and now they seem to be mentioned on here by everyone! I got them for almost the same reason - I get terrible eczema so I suspect my daughter may do too, but also as mine gets really bad on my hands I'm hoping I won't react to using the wipes whereas I'm sure I will to normal ones.

Boodlymummy · 31/05/2015 13:02

Hadn't heard of Cheeky Wipes before, now tempted. But we're in a little 1 bed flat, so no out of the way room for the tub and bucket of mucky wipes and nappies awaiting washing. Would be in a corner somewhere or poss my wardrobe! Wondering how smell-free it could really be...?

DeladionInch · 31/05/2015 13:24

I use reusable wipes, not cheeky ones, and don't bother with all the pissing about! Just soak wipes in hot water and a drop of lavender then store in a freezer bag - a few in the nappy bag the rest in ds's room. Bung them in the nappy bin or wet bag till wash day.

ARV1981 · 31/05/2015 13:26

Ditzzy - yes, cheeky wipes are as much for my benefit as baby's! Though mostly baby's Smile.

I think it's probably going to be easier to just use the pram carry cot. I think my dh will be happy with this as he's always looking for ways to save money Wink

Boodley - I washed all my cheeky wipes (worried about factory chemicals on them) and they dried very quickly. As for the smell of dirty nappies.... I don't think there's a way around this. Could you put the bucket in the bathroom? That's where mine is going anyway. I think you can also put tea tree oil in the bucket but it depends on the make of nappies you buy so not guaranteed. From what I can see with other families, disposable nappies get chucked in the indoor bin before being taken outside and they're pretty smelly too.... I think bad smells is something we'll all have to get used to!

DeladionInch · 31/05/2015 13:34

You don't notice how much the chemicals in disposables smell until you've tried cloth. I use a lidded kitchen bin with a mesh laundry bag in, kept in the bathroom. As long as the bin is kept clean and the lid is shut there's no smell. Or you can get big zip up wetbags; unzip and wash, the nappies come out by themselves!

Thanks for the tea tip llama! I will try that definitely.

ovumahead · 31/05/2015 15:49

We used to keep washable nappy bin in the bedroom and never noticed a smell. It had a tight fitting lid. Until the lid came off, that is! Then it can get rather pungent...
