Maths88 I am staying with my parents for half term so not really a holiday especially considering the pile of work I brought with me but it is a change of scene and will give my partner a break from very early morning starts with the boy. Cyprus sounds lovely!

ARV1981 · 23/05/2015 09:54

Thank you, I think I will leave the bath thing - I have a dodgy back at the best of times, fully expecting to have put it out during/after giving birth! Grrrr! Good tip, I'd never really thought about leaning over the bath....

My sister had loads of those neckerchief things for her DS. They looked cute, but because he was constantly dribbling they were always soaked... not sure how I feel about that tbh. Would I be less inclined to wipe dribbles away often if there was something there to catch it? And is that a hygiene issue? Not sure... my nephew is very healthy so obviously never did him any harm! Like you say, fashion thing probably - I've seen them for sale - £15 for a triangle of fabric and some Velcro!!! Crazy! I might make some when I'm on mat leave though Wink

I bathed them in the kitchen sink till they started climbing out. Baby bath a faff.

Changing bag: boots do clear wash bags in packs of 3. The middle size fits several nappies, a packet of wipes, some nappy bags, a tube of bum cream and a disposable mat. I use the small one for my keys, purse etc and keep the big one at home to use for other stuff. The 2 smaller ones go in a big handbag or small back pack. Bottles etc went in a zip lock bag and I didn't really carry spare clothes. It's possible to travel light!

Bibs: depends on your baby. Ds1 was a dribbler and a bit sicky. I had some lovely velour bibs with a synthetic waterproof back by a brand called "mum2mum", and also got through a lot of muslins. Ds2 quite the opposite and we only needed bins for weaning.
Changing mat: I like the thick padded ones, around £7 from Mothercare. The provide some cushioning on a hard surface and don't roll up when the baby starts moving.

DeladionInch · 23/05/2015 13:28

I bathed ds in the main bath, didn't fancy sloshing a big bowl of water across the house from one on a stand! You can always get in with them if you don't want to lean over, but babies don't need much washing anyway; best to leave their skin to do it's job. The baby bath we were given did sterling service as a paddling pool his first summer, and I'll probably get a seat for when ds2 is big enough so he can go in with ds1.

I have the blow up changing mats from IKEA in the house, with washable covers and plenty of spares then a muslin/spare flat nappy for out and about if needed

monkeymoonpig · 24/05/2015 07:45

Pleased that baby has almost returned to pre-quiet period and seems be kicking away again good and proper. Not sure if they've turned or just more noticable now they're getting bigger.
After a fab week at Center Parcs and lovely day yesterday walking/exploring a local country park, DS (3) now has the most awful cold and cough starting. Thinking therefore about having a 'quieter' ie less manic day for him and possibly making the hour amd half car trek to Ikea Warrington and have a nosey at baby things..... love their bath towels as well lol

ambientolf · 24/05/2015 08:56

monkey glad baby is kicking more. I worry about it all the time now. I did think I would calm down after my 20 week scan but no, another thing to worry about!!
& I love Warrington Ikea! Go for it - theres nothing better then mooching around (I also enjoy doing this is Costco even when I'm not buying anything...) especially for baby stuff! DP has banned me from buying anymore baby clothes, etc because we have loads now - most second hand - but argh it all so cute!

monkeymoonpig · 24/05/2015 09:02

Well we're pretty skiny after a week away, so not planning on spending a lot, but would be nice to look at moses baskets and bedding etc. Last time we went we got some lovely bedding for DS ridiculously cheap and now he's (almost) out of night nappies it wouldnt be a bad idea having spares!

monkeymoonpig · 24/05/2015 09:03

Skiny?! I wish! Lol. *skint

Snowflake15 · 25/05/2015 18:28

Fell off so place marking, currently enjoying a lovely holiday in Portugal, last day tomorrow wah!!

misssmilla1 · 25/05/2015 22:01

This weekend has been one of firsts; yesterday someone insisted I took their seat on the subway and today I had an odd conversation at the gym where a lady suddenly noticed I was pregnant (hard to miss when my beach ball bump is at eye level Grin) and started telling me I ought to be careful about doing any sort of activity, but "Fair play to you, you look great".

Here starteh everyone else knowing better; am waiting for the first stranger unsolicited stomach rub...

Oh no miss :p I'm still getting the "oh, your bumps not very big is it?" :/

Oh llama that's an early start for you. Hope he's had a little nap since.

Maths88 · 26/05/2015 09:27

Oh no llama, just what you want.

Well I'm on my second day in Cyprus and have been up most of the night with vomiting and diarrhea - tmi sorry. I still feel absolutely awful and can't even think about food - all I can do is sip water. The wedding we have come for is tomorrow so I really hope I start to feel better.

Anyone know whether this will do any harm to baby, I try to avoid Google as it sends my anxiety through the roof!

sauvblanc21 · 26/05/2015 10:57

I think Maths (altho I'm no doc!) as long as you can keep water down, baby will be fine - they survive the N&V at the start of the preg so they must be resilient little critters! It's probs just quite noisy in there for it - ho ho! Deffo avoid google, can you call NHS from over there just to put your mind at rest? Xx

Does anyone have any changing bag recommendations? Dh's nan has given me £50 towards one! I want one that is practical, pretty but not too girly (the usual requirements I guess!)

I like the look of the babymel or skip hop dash ones

Treaclepie19 · 26/05/2015 16:22

Oh no maths :(
I'd also say baby should be fine but just to put your mind at rest could you get in touch with a doctor?
Keep up your fluids. Hope it goes away soon for you!

Hey guys thanks for the suggestions. I rang my hospital back home - not in the UK - and they said baby would be fine as it will take what it wants, I just need to keep hydrated and only to eat if I want to.

I'm still feeling terrible and have managed copious amounts of water and a single Pringles today. Going to head to meet the rest of our party for the evening and see how I feel but have a funny feeling ill be back in the room before long!

Sorry to bore you guys with this but I always feel like you lot understand the worry!

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 26/05/2015 18:37

Oh Maths, sorry you're poorly on holiday, really hope you're better for the wedding.
Choccy I have a Lässig bag, it wasn't the cheapest but as a washable nappy user it still gets plenty use and is a great size, it has lasted well.

ambientolf · 26/05/2015 19:30

maths I hope you feel better soon you poor thing!

choccy I have my eye on the Babymoov ones. I already have 3 bags (1 with the pram, 1 with Boots parenting club & 1 free from Vertbaudet) but they are all small so I'm trying to talk DP into a nice big one Grin

monkeymoonpig · 26/05/2015 20:21

Really struggled back at work today after last wk off and b/h weekend. Sounds crazy but found it hard sitting infront of computer all day...we did so much walking (very slowly in my case) at Center Parcs last week and now i just feel HUGE sitting down. Anyone else struggling to get up with bump? Bump feels incredibly heavy today, looking forward to flopping in bed tonite. DS in bath currently, he's also full of cough and cold so struggling to sleep (and only wants mummy when poorly - how do i manage that with a newborn as well?!). Washing machine going ten to dozen and FIL is STILL here, 5wks on, with no improvement at all. Fingers crossed the hospital take his plaster off tomorrow and force him to start walking again. DP and I can see no end in sight otherwise :-(

Sorry for the big moan, feeling a bit tired and down today. Had such a wonderful 10days with DP and DS and now its back to work FT, makes me sad sometimes Sad

Bippidee · 26/05/2015 20:38

Choccyhobnob, have a look at the baba bing bags. Not girly at all.
