I've been inspired by those of you getting private reassurance scans and have booked mine for next Wednesday. I'll be 7+4 then so fingers crossed I'll see a heartbeat!

Sounds mad, but I've realised that I'm actually quite nervous about it too as if all is well then it means this is definitely happening Confused

loveulotslikejellytots · 18/05/2015 15:43

I'd talked myself out of paying for an early scan, but my boobs aren't sore any more, nausea is still coming and going. Had horrendous cramps on and off all day today. It's really starting to worry me. Daft I know. I'm just worried something is going to go wrong. Although something could go wrong between a private scan at 7 weeks and NHS one at 12 I suppose. Just want to get to 12 weeks!

wlrg14 · 18/05/2015 16:02

Well...I was really optimistic earlier, until I got home and used my last cb digi and at 5+5 it came up with 1-2 Sad although they can be unreliable I can't see the cb digis being that far out? ... dp thinks I'm worrying about nothing Blush

wlrg14 · 18/05/2015 16:03

5+6 sorry...I'll be 6 weeks tomorrow Confused

Tonicandgin · 18/05/2015 16:12

Just called the Drs and been booked in with me on Fri and been told to bring a urine sample. I'll only be 6 wks so feels really early..

Anyway, what do I put my sample in? Ideas??

And can I bring dd with me? She'll undoubtedly mess with everything in sight.

ValancyJane · 18/05/2015 16:24

Thanks ladies for earlier - it really does help to be able to vent on here about everything, think I would have exploded by now if not! I'm going to do what Char said and see how I go (had nothing else today even remotely similar or I would have left work), but anything like that again and I'll be straight there - I do agree it's nothing to mess about with. I have a GP appointment tomorrow so will definitely mention it to her then and see what she says. Really freaked me out last night, I feel a bit calmer now!

How much are your early scans if you don't mind me asking? I was tempted but the one nearest us is £80 and I can't quite justify spending that much, though I really want to!

wlrg Do you get better results with morning/afternoon generally? Could it just be more diluted today? Un-mumsnetty hugs to you, hope all's well.

In today's news I fell up the stairs at work and was so worried about not falling on my womb that I now have a gash on one leg from the edge of the step, an enormous bruise and lump on the other and bruises on my arm... I don't feel I'm doing well at being pregnant today!!

parsnipbob · 18/05/2015 16:31

The one I'm going for is 100 which I thought was about right.

OTheHugeManatee · 18/05/2015 16:42

Yup, £80 here too. It is a lot but I'm not spending any money on going out right now and I just need to KNOW

Juniper44 · 18/05/2015 16:57

I had a private scan last time and would have done again this time if I wasn't getting it on the nhs. Yes, £100 is a lot, but I get way too anxious about this type of thing!

Tonic I stuck DD in front of Peppa on my phone today when the GP wanted to prod my stomach. Apparently it is 'soft'. Rude!

wlrg14 · 18/05/2015 17:06

Thanks valancyjane iv been at work so hoping iv just drank too much (I work in a hot kitchen!) Am stepping away from all testing now and just holding out 9 days for the scan, which I'm really happy they are doing and my gp was lovely and more than happy to offer a scan Smile

£100 isn't too bad really...if I wasn't having an NHS one I probably would have tried to get the money together for one

Juniper- my tummy is also soft! Grin but bloated ALL THE TIME! Blush

brickiemum2 · 18/05/2015 18:11

wlgr I also work in a hot kitchen and wouldn't recommend using a digi afterward. I drink about a litre and a half of water in my 4 hour shift and my pee is crystal clear by the end of it lol....doesn't help that I also pee every 15 minutes because I'm drinking so much. But then if I don't constantly drink cold water then the smells make me vomit. Lovely.

wlrg14 · 18/05/2015 18:24

Yeah I'm hoping thats what's done it! Was on a 7hr shift today so have drank a lot to be fair! Grin
Agree with the smell of food being a problem...although it seems to be the cooking of raw meat or anything remotely slimy that's making me heave at the moment! Smile

brickiemum2 · 18/05/2015 18:36

Yeah, I actually ended up hiding polos in my mouth today just to get through it. Do you have any kids already wlrg ? I find it hard coming home and then cooking for the family when all I want to do is hide from food! Will you do another digi in the morning? I'm due the day after you and am too scared to do one, just in case it says a lower number Blush

Lookingforadvice123 · 18/05/2015 19:02

valancy I hope you're feeling better now?

parsnip my sore boobs have come and gone too, which I think is normal!

coffeenut when you say cooked chilled prawns do you mean like the ready to eat ones you can buy? I would've thought they were ok surely, I'm sure I've not seen anything about them not being allowed on the NHS website? I've been eating them in stir frys, they're hot as they're put in the pan for a bit though...

Gutted we can't eat chorizo, I love it Sad

I've talked myself out of paying for an early private scan, for now anyway. We'd found one that was only £40 so more than happy to pay, but it's the aftercare and lack of sensitivity I worry about with these private places - what if all isn't as it should be, are they just like righ, £40 please and send you on your way?! At least at the NHS scans they'd provide support and advice. It's still 5 weeks until I'll be 12 weeks though so I might change my mind!

wlrg14 · 18/05/2015 19:05

No this will be our first...hopefully Smile can't imagine coming home and cooking for a whole family! I only brought a pack of 1 so I may purchase another but will have to do it without dp knowing Grin which will mean popping to tesco whilst he is at work tonight! Hmm

I'm sure you'll be fine, tbh if I miscarry now I'll be upset but not surprised after the spotting and now the cb digi Sad trying to be hopeful though Grin

brickiemum2 · 18/05/2015 19:20

I love chorizo too so will continue to eat the kind you cook rather than the raw cured one. I also will be eating plenty of hot cooked seafood. In fact I'm making paella this week so will be consuming all of the above lol.
looking I would never pay for a private scan for the same reasons too...heard too many horror stories about exactly what you fear. Just my personal opinion having been in an nhs scan and told that baby had stopped growing and I would need surgery.

parsnipbob · 18/05/2015 19:32

Oh lord being put off the early scan now...just wanted to know if the heart was beatinh

brickiemum2 · 18/05/2015 19:39

It's the unfortunate thing that they are not set up to deal with it if things are not as they expect for dates. Add to that that the nhs would require 2 scans a fortnight apart to be conclusive on an mmc at this stage and they WON'T accept a private scan result as the first one (they will start the process over again) But I totally understand that's me being a negative Nancy due to my history and for the vast majority of people it will be a positive, reassuring outcome. I only speak for myself when I say I personally wouldn't do it, but then again due to my history I am entitled to early scans with the nhs so I'm not sure my opinion counts for anything lmao.

Juniper44 · 18/05/2015 19:45

When I had my early scan (privately) they gave me dates that didn't make any sense to me. I spent days worrying that things weren't progressing the way they should be, and ended up in the NHS early pregnancy unit for another scan.

The doctor was very scathing about private centres, especially as they do abdominal scans rather than trans-vaginally.

I liked the reassurance that DD was in the right place and her heart was beating, but the dating made me more anxious, not less.

mrsjskelton · 18/05/2015 19:52

This is so exciting :) EDD 13th Jan! Very tender boobs, lots of cramping and constantly hungry at the moment!

mrsfazruns · 18/05/2015 19:58

Someone please just let me be sick or sleep for the next 6 weeks ..... ANYTGING to stop me feeling like this x

ValancyJane · 18/05/2015 19:58

Looking Yes thank you - still crampy on and off, but nothing even remotely close to last night. Will still mention it to GP though. On the subject of chorizo (far more important!) the one you cook is fine - I'm a fellow addict! I'm also upset about the loss of goats cheese from my life temporarily.

wlrg Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

OH and I discussed early scans and I was all for it, but he pointed out that I'd just keep worrying the next few weeks that it had all gone wrong since the scan (he knows me well!). Juniper that's an interesting point about the dates, that would have freaked me out too.

brickiemum2 · 18/05/2015 20:11

valancy can you not get a pasteurized/non mould developed version of a goat's cheese? I don't eat cheese so I have no idea lol.
I'll still be getting my chorizo fix from the cooked version....in fact I now have a craving for white bean mash with olive oil, garlic and dry fried chorizo over the top with all the rich red oil that seeps out...yum but very fattening lol.

Blimeygirl · 18/05/2015 20:15

So cross tonight Hmm my husband has just found out that he can't come to the 12 week scan Hmm he's going away with work so won't be around. It's our first child as well. I know it's not his fault but still rather miffed!

CubanoHabana · 18/05/2015 20:20

Gutted about chorizo, I'm sure I ate it last time! Also goats cheese is fine if cooked, so goats cheese tart is still ok Wink

I've had to break out the maternity trousers today because of the bloating and I swear I've seen a few colleagues looking at my tummy!
