Weeonion - so at your mil! We should rename them "the outlaws" because they believe they have the right to say and do what they want without thinking!
We are still waiting for them to put safety gate up in their house, that they've had lying in the hallway for 6 weeks! It took dh to say very bluntly that unless its put up this week, ds will not be visiting. Harsh, I know, but mil looks after ds one day a week, and he loves climbing the stairs, and it would only take a minute for something to happen. Dh has offered to put it up (its a screw to the wall type) but we get the reply "no its ok, we'll do it" I did think that perhaps I was overeacting, but ds now thinks it is the best thing in the world to run everywhere.

CaptainDippy · 13/11/2006 10:09

Hear, Hear to "The Outlaws!"

Going over to a friend's for lunch today, which should be nice. Both girls resting atm, so catching up on "important stuff" - Ha! Ha!

runnyhabbit · 13/11/2006 10:10

meant to add, that he loves running everywhere, including up and down the stairs.

She also had the cheek to say that she didn't like one his winter coats, because it made him look too grown up. Bearing in mind, they do not buy anything for ds, apart from christmas and birthdays (not that we expect them to) but still! I wish she'd stick her brain in gear before opeing her mouth.

But all in all, they're not as bad as some I know, and read about, so I guess I should count my blessings

Got my scan tomorrow v excited and nervous

Morning all. Like GGF and others, I seem to be so up and down at the moment. Saturday really good - we all got lots done and had a lovely day together, felt happy and energetic. Then yesterday we had my best friend, her husband and two boys over, had v nice day, but by the time they left I was in such a bad mood with all and sundry - DH, friend, all assembled children etc, house was a mess and I felt so tired and sicky I could have cried. Stropped around all evening, and haven't really perked up much today. The littlest thing seems to set me off into a grump, even though I know it's not logical! Rounded off the day by rowing with DH about the toilet flush (which friend's DH had broken)!! Ho hum, and the weather is miserable too, and it's Monday, so feel like it isn't going to get any better. Have already shouted at DD for pointing out to me that I had spilled milk on the breakfast table !

Good luck to all who are buying / researching new cars or buggies. We're fairly lucky as we already have a Passat, which should easily fit two DCs and all our gear in, and although DD occasionally uses the buggy now, she'll be 4.3 by the time the baby comes, so I'm sure she'll be fine without it. Captain Dippy - my friend had a Phil and Ted's when her DCs were aged 4, 2 and newborn, and used to sit the four year old on the front lip-type bit when they were in a hurry!

Someone asked further down about third trimester - I'd always thought it was from 28 weeks? I know they can do amazing things these days, but I think that's still reckoned on as the point at which the baby would have a pretty good chance if it was born. I'll be 28 weeks on DD's birthday in Jan, so a double celebration!!

Better go - maybe I will feel better if I've actually achieved something by the time I pick up DD from pre-school! Good luck with the scan mammyjo!

Awwww, Bramshott - [[hugs] and much sympathy honey - That is EXACTLY how I am atm too - all over the place with my emotions - poor DH doesn't know whether he is coming or going, poor love - I just don't seem to be able to control myself!! Gotta pull myself together!!

I am pretty sure third trimester starts at 27/28 weeks ish, which will be Jan for most of us, I think - How exciting!!

Gotta do washing .....

twinkle183 · 13/11/2006 10:32

weeonion I can't believe your MIL - how dare she say that babies always come when they want to its not something you can plan to the very last detail its not like baking a bloody cake at MIL

I am well today except ds have a dreadful cough so have taken the day off work to sort him out!!! Am 19+2 now and have still got to wait for over a week for my scan am so but good luck to those with scans before mine - how many of us are finding out the flavour

Hope all is well take care

Bramshott · 13/11/2006 10:45

Thanks guys - am feeling better already!! Actually, have remembered the main thing that is spoiling today - I used a facial scrub last night, and one of the scrub-type-bits got wedged up behind my eyelid. And the bloody thing is still there!! No matter how much I swill it round with optrex, poke at it with my finger etc, it is firmly wedged. I really thought it would work its way out overnight, but no, it's just sitting there, spoiling my day by making every blink painful - hrrmmpphh!

One the plus side - definitely felt the baby move on Saturday night!!!!

CaptainDippy · 13/11/2006 10:49

Ouch to nasty annoying thing in your eye - but YEY!! to feeling bubs move!

Go and have a cup of tea ......

Bramshott · 13/11/2006 10:56

CD - will do that !! Have also just ordered Percy Parkeeper rake from Jammyjoes for DD - hurrah for retail therapy! Enough moaning from me, am going to turn my mood around!

Have a great day all!

OP posts:
heidle · 13/11/2006 11:10

hope the eye is better soon - ouch!
best news on movement though - I still feel like I'm imagining the whole thing (weight gain could be just crisps right?)

1becomes3 · 13/11/2006 11:13

weeonion- your mil sound like a right evil cow.
Mine came out with a similar comment when we told her i was pg with DD she said, "you two are so stupid"
just becaue there is an age gap between us, but we have showed her, now she moans because we don't take DD down to see her enough.
When DH told her about the twins he also added "if you say anything nasty this time you will never see them!" Outlaws are such hard work.
Bramshot-hope you start feeling better soon, those hormones are terrible things.
Mammyjo- good luck with the scan

runnyhabbit · 13/11/2006 11:20

Bramshott - ouch!

Am feeling the need to spread good vibes (seeing as I had a go about mil earlier), so thought I would tell you about my wonderful mum! Not only does she offer to look after ds so I can get on with stuff while dh is working, but she has also offered to help paint our living room!!!!!! She is truly a star, and although she lives about 5 mins from us, she will never call in unannounced, (always checks its ok first) never criticises if our house is a bit untidy Will say what she thinks, but can take it in return iykwim. The list is endless Musn't forget that she gets on very well with dh. Couldn't imagine what it would be like if they didn't.

If its true that we all turn into our mothers, then I will be very happy

Soppy moment over

IsabellaMoi · 13/11/2006 11:40

Hello to everyone and hugs and sympathy to those with inlaw woes, irritants in their eyes, ill children, and fluctuating emotions! Hope today gets better for one and all.

It's been so long since I've been on (did yet another of my marathon read catch up sessions!) so I'm only just welcoming HEIDLE and CHARLII! Great to have some more beans due in April

Runnyhabit - good luck with the scan tomorrow. My next one isn't til December 8th! I think I'll be 22+ weeks or something by then.

I've been hit with my second cold/chesty cough in a month - and I don't normally get many colds. I spent most of yesterday in bed but am a little better today - thankfully, I had today off from work. Hope everyone else is feeling alright.

I don't think I've felt my bean move yet - the movements I have felt could as easily have been digestion happening! Hoping for a difinitive kick any day now.

As a first-timer, I'm interested in all the discussion on buggies and change mats/tables/cot toppers etc.... I've been researching prams/buggies a bit and not at all sure what we will do. So many options on style, compactability, price, accessories etc!

Oh - and Heidle, I think MIL cutting DD's hair IS over a line but good for you in your relaxed response! Choosing your battles is such a sensible approach!

mammyjo · 13/11/2006 11:57

Morning all. Bramshott hope you are feeling better now, my emotions are everywhere too. Am full of a cold today so very miserable and could just cry sometimes even though I know I am being irrational!!

Anyway, I have reason to feel better! My scan was fab with everything looking absolutely normal!!! I am so pleased. All the measurements are exactly right for my dates and bean was wriggling around like mad in there. Also got three lovely pics to keep, showing a lovely profile of the face, aaahhhh! Didnt find out what we are having as dh not keen and also the bum was right down which helped with our decision! I am sure if I had really wanted to know the sonographer would have looked but I am happy to wait for the surprise now

Good luck to you runnyhabbit for your scan tomorrow. Hope you get the same lady as me as she was absolutely lovely
Good luck to all with scans coming up this week. Have a good day everyone xxxx

heidle · 13/11/2006 12:00

thank-you isabellamoi, you never know when you're pg whether you are reacting how you would otherwise (if that makes sense)

another rant: is anyone else sick of having the imprint of buttons on both hips from stupid adjustable trousers? Could they not design some sort of cover, or other way of adjusting which stops long bits of elastic hanging out of your waist......? or is it just me?

Harimad · 13/11/2006 13:16

Afternoon all - have only just managed to catch up with the weekend flurry, since I don't log on much at the weekend, but leave it until I'm at work ...

Congrats with the scan mammyjo - can't wait for mine, but will have to as it's not until Dec 13th.

Am definitely thinking I'm feeling the sproglet now tho'... a feeling like a bubble in the bottom left of my tummy - it's been happening for a few days now. If it were just once I'd brush it off, but as it's not I think it must be movements!

Heidle - I have't bought any maternity trousers yet (am struggling in normal trousers plus a belly band and one pair of jeans in a larger size), but I'll read with interest in case anyone comes up with a solution!

We're lucky that we don't have a car / space problem - 1) it's our first but 2) because we drive a camper van so there's plenty of room. I pity my poor DH - when we met he drove an Alfa Romeo GTV and we've slowly downgraded to an '84 VW caravelle over the years!

Hope everyone's feeling chipper...

mammyjo · 13/11/2006 14:12

Sorry harimad and heidle, totally forgot to say welcome to the thread! Hope you both have happy and healthy pregnancies This is a really friendly place to be and very supportive too!

heidle · 13/11/2006 14:23

Thank you mammyjo - sounds like you had a lovely scan, am v jealous!
harimad - well done with keeping the pre-maternity trousers going, am v jealous of you too!! I now wish I'd been more 'down with the kids' and invested in some hipsters!

Harimad · 13/11/2006 14:38

LOL Heidle - I wish I were more 'down with the kids' too! I'm 36! Just too darn tight to buy any more new clothes until I absolutely have to!

Am off to Bluewater next week so will no doubt pick up a couple of pairs there...

sallycinnamon · 13/11/2006 14:47

I'm not very good at keeping up with this thread. I'm having to really ration my MN or I'll be on it all day! Glad to hear everyone is doing well. I can't believe how time is going by. I'm 18 weeks tomorrow and have my scan in a couple of weeks time. Had my downs and spina bifida results on Saturday- low risk for both which is obviously good news but I do wonder why I bothered having them done. I don't think if they were high risk that I would feel any differently about this baby.
Not sure I've felt many movements yet- can't wait though!

1becomes3 · 13/11/2006 14:57

Can I offer a bit of advice for the 1st time mum's buying a pram. Make sure you test drive the prams first. Give them a wheel around the shop.
Don't get a chunky big one because it looks good. when I had DD we got one of the 3 wheelers from m & p because it is what every one had.
It was like pushing a tank around and terrible for going shopping with as it always got stuck in between racks.
I kept getting pain in my wrist went to the doctor who said that I had R.S.I, I using the pram so much and to manover it you had to push down on the handle bars, so I ended up buying another one with 4 wheels it was so much lighter and easier to handle.

sallycinnamon · 13/11/2006 15:01

Agree with 1becomes3 M&P buggies look lurvely but are massive. Was regularly getting stuck in doors, aisles etc!
My current problem is how I'm going to get me, dd, baby and buggy into a Ford Ka. Answers on a postcard please....

Sexonlegs · 13/11/2006 15:10

God, you lot have been busy again! We were away at the weekend and when we got back I wasn't able to access MN last night, as out b* isp was down, so am at work, and have been trying to catch up all day! Boss keeps walking in, so I have to flip on to another screen quickly.
So, I have only skimmed stuff, but welcome to all the new ladies, and big hugs to all the old lot!

Our weekend away was lovely, but we were glad to get back. We went with a couple and their 4 year old ds. We all get on v well, but they baby him something rotten, and it drives me and dh insane. Even worse when they try it with dd who at 7 months younger is far more independent. I feel sorry for the little lad, as he is wrapped in cotton wool, and needs to harden up, esp before he goes to school. Anyway, whinge over!

What a variety of topics covered again - all interesting stuff.

Mammyjo, really pleased to hear about your scan. Good luck to all those who have them this week as well. I am only 16 + 2, so have a while to go yet before mine.

Weeonion, your mil is disgraceful. What a ridiculous thing to say. I really hope you can let it go over your head (easier said than done I know) and not let it get to you. Honestly, b* woman!!

MIAM, we can still refer to you as MIAM if you change to muminameriva!

Jealous of all the new car action. We don't need one as only have dd and bean to consider. Don't have the issue with the buggy either, with dd being nearly 4 by the time bean arrives. Saying that, I expect there will be some stubborness on dd's part - refusing to walk and wanting to be a baby all over again!

Feeling only butterfly feelings and those don't happen every day. In fact, barely felt anything over the weekend, so as soon as we got back yesterday, hauled out the doppler and listened in to hear the lovely sound of the bean's heartbeat. Soooo reassuring.

I hope I have covered everything - if not, I apologise. Will hopefully be back on later, assuming talktalk have sorted out the problem.

Bye for now. xx

Sexonlegs · 13/11/2006 15:13

Can I echo 1becomes3 also. We bought a 3 wheeler - not an M+P one) as it looked good and also as it was the in thing. It was hell on wheels literally. A nightmare in the shops, and I too ended up with terrible pain in my neck and shoulder from pushing it around. We jacked it in and bought a Maclaren buggy - the best thing we ever did!!
