Welcome to the 13th April 2015 babies thread!

The stats thread is here and we have a handy spreadsheet here

If anyone wants to join the FB group who hasn’t already, PM me your email address and I’ll send you an invite!

We’re in the home stretch ladies, we've had six babies, how many more threads can we manage before the last baby is here?

OP posts:

Cinnamon Flowers sorry you're struggling today. You are doing fantastically. Try and have a nice bath or something later on.

RL with my epidural I didn't have a catheter. Midwife did a quick ' in- out' catheter before I started pushing. That took about 1min. Then about 6h later I was up on the loo. Just my experience Smile

RL20 · 24/03/2015 19:07

Lauren ouch! It has really put me off pain relief! I know that's not the idea and it's just to give you the worst possible outcomes. But it's made me go a bit Confused!
Looks like it's just going to be gas and air then Blush ......

FiRaffe yes that's what they were talking about today. I had no idea that you would need to keep emptying your bladder during labour. I mean of course if you've gotta go, you've gotta go, but I never realised it's a necessity for it to be emptied constantly, for the reasons of the bladder being in the way etc. Well you learn something new every day! Or at least, at every antenatal class!

Annia well done for the up-hill walking! People have said to me that they recommend a local park near to me with huge hills, for the time leading up to labour! Shock We'll see!

RL20 · 24/03/2015 19:08

Thanks penguin. How do they do one, anyway? Blush

PenguinPoser · 24/03/2015 19:36

RL all I remember is it was quick. Had to sit on side of the bed with back hunched right over hugging a pillow. I remember the local anaesthetic being stingy then nothing else I could feel. Downside of mine was it didn't work 100% and needed adjusting as I was still in pain. It did really help overall though. I would have one again. I know it's not for everyone and does limit mobility but whatever gets you through!

Lauren82000 · 24/03/2015 19:47

Mine was an in out catheter too. Tiny tube up your ureatha, watch the wee fountain into a bowl, whip it out. Stung quite a bit when it was going in and out. Let's just say they weren't that gentle. Confused

PenguinPoser · 24/03/2015 19:48

Ah wasn't sure if you meant the epidural or the catheter RL but Lauren has answered the other Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 24/03/2015 19:48

Catheter or epidural RL20?

RL20 · 24/03/2015 19:57

Catheter cinnamon, but Lauren has just mentioned it!
Thanks.
If only I wasn't so squeamish I could get over things like this!Confused

cinnamongreyhound · 24/03/2015 19:59

Mine was more permanent so they put it up and blow up a little balloon to hold it in place, they then deflate that balloon to remove it. Mine wasn't stingy or anything as I had epidural and it was attached to a bag as it's constantly emptying the bladder.

Lauren82000 · 24/03/2015 20:07

It's not a pleasant thing but if it helps you get the baby out faster you agree to anything RL. A minute or 2 of discomfort so you can get to the pushing stage isn't the end of the world, you just get on with it.

Why is it that I get really uncomfortable with back ache and sore tight bump (which when I think about it is probably contracting slightly) when DH is doing overtime and I'm home alone? Confused Won't amount to anything, but still it always happens when your alone

Heyitsholly · 24/03/2015 20:18

Baby was measuring 7,5 pounds! Consultants started to say that they were happy for me to go full term then changed their minds due to my bp history and thyroid so now back next Tuesday for a sweep and to be booked in for induction in case it doesn't work. Ahhhhhh
Thank god I moved my maternity leave to my last day tomorrow otherwise I'd have been induced whilst still working.
Mainly just going ahhhhhh. The mature response lol

AnniaFausta · 24/03/2015 20:34

Well, thank heavens for SiL, who has replied to my FB message to her after yesterday's BiL news to say that of course they'll try to come and see us on Saturday if that's when we're around. Clearly she is familiar with the phenomenon, being married to DH's brother...

Also, stuff more or less all in the hospital bags now. Eeek?

smogsville · 24/03/2015 20:38

Moomin my mum was nearby so I felt bold. Usually I say nothing and just mutter passive aggressively. Also he didn't looking like a puncher... Agree the general public horrendous. On your blinds, I'm sure JL will fix it, that is after all the main point of them.

Thanks Squatting. On dog poo I think it's the people who walk their dogs either first thing before work or late at night as all I ever see during day are lovely responsible owners cleaning up efficiently.

Am in a rage as had a lovely big calming story time with DD and then DH came home and straightaway she was on his shoulders crashing about and banged her head etc so now it feels that she is quite a long way from sleep... Angry

Cinnamon, I feel like you need to sit down and take a breath and have a Brew

Boo this sounds brilliant good for you and may it continue.

Holly that sounds like good news on baby's weight even if, understandably, sweep/ induction isn't what you want to hear.

Have taken delivery of the miniature Sophie la girafe for DD to give her new bro as a present and the horrendous weeing/ drinking Baby Born for him to 'give' her at the hospital. They're the last items for the hospital bag, just need wrapping now.

brummagem · 24/03/2015 20:59

Skyra don't panic it's natural in the dog world. Every dog I've ever known will do that if they feel threatened or panicked. They obviously don't speak English and sometimes our actions and tones confuse them. My dog is 14 years old now and although I love him to utter pieces I'd still never leave bump with him unattended simply because dog language and human language is so different!

Nunkie · 24/03/2015 21:03

Evening All!

Well, am adding self to The Induction Gang: tomorrow at 8am! Shock

(Already had a bit of a cervical prod from a rather brisk doctor - actually it was fine. Not looking forward to them sticking the little hook thing up tomorrow mind!)

So wish me luck, and we'll see if tomorrow turns out to be Peanut's birthday (or if I'm stuck in here another 4 days getting more and more prodded and more and more nervous/ bored! Shock)

It's all been a bit of a whirlwind as my BP etc weren't looking too bad I didn't think, but apparently they weren't keen on my reflex test so would rather keep me in in case things escalate.

Went a bit wobbly about it all earlier and suddenly very grateful to have a Doula! And a supportive DP! And a nice thread mumsnet to post on! Smile

(Also glad I looked up 'positive induction stories' on Google before I went to bed last night!)

(Also, apologies for self-absorbed post. Not had much time to catch up with the thread as been too busy trembling and gathering self! :0D )

Wineandchoccy · 24/03/2015 21:13

Good luck for tomorrow Nunkie

PenguinPoser · 24/03/2015 21:17

Good luck Nunkie!! Positive induction story from me I had my sweep on the Thursday afternoon, one pessary Friday evening, waters broken Saturday at 9am, drip at 10am, fully dilated by 2pm! Smile

FizzyBubbly · 24/03/2015 21:18

Good luck for tomorrow Nunkie! Hope all goes well, try and get a good nights sleep!

daholster · 24/03/2015 21:23

Wow, lots to catch up on! Don't think I can reply to it all...

But cinnamon yes hope you can have a nice evening. It is horrid seeing someone shout/be mean to a child, especially when you care about that child as I am sure you do for your minded kids. But like you said you have to trust that the guardians know what they are doing... Or at least hope Confused How stressful for you, poor you Brew (you are getting a lot of tea!!!)

Nunkie eek how exciting! What is the reflex test? Good luck, hope it all goes well Flowers

Work is all done tho I forgot to take some books back which I will need to do next week. Not the end of the world.

Dd is wide awake nattering in bed and clattering the bars - oh and now singing - far too awake after an exciting evening visit from great aunty and great uncle!!! Hope she does sleep eventually...

Bump is so tender in the middle at the top. It's like my insides are splitting and I cannot move him. He must be down though because I just had a BH contraction which was pretty strong and it felt like I was going to poo! Blush Which I am not because I can't... Grin

Think I will have a cuppa.

smogsville · 24/03/2015 21:24

Good luck Nunkie!

daholster · 24/03/2015 21:25

Dd is singing to the tune of the wheels on the bus "Driver on a train tickets please, tickets please, tickets please.... Allllll daaayyy long!"

Not sure there is much cuter than a young toddler singing to herself Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 24/03/2015 21:29

Thank you all! On the plus side Dh seems to have an answer to his sinus infection problems from Christmas. He has a hugely under active thyroid which apparently has an effect on how medication works so explains the lack of effect of everything they've prescribed. They've also said it will help him not feel so tired which he had put down to being very busy and getting older. Dr said it could also contribute to his aching joints which he's had since we've been together.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/03/2015 21:31

Whoops posted too soon! Hope all goes well Nunkie!! There are lots of positive induction stories. Try and get a good nights sleep Flowers

Underwood2013 · 24/03/2015 21:33

Wow - good luck nunkie!!! Hope it all goes smoothly for you tomorrow...!

solstice930 · 24/03/2015 21:38

daholster My DD loves singing now! We hear lots of 'Wheel Bus', Twinkle Star' and 'Baa Sheep' from bed. It's the sweetest thing.

RL I had a catheter with my epidural and didn't feel a thing. A full bladder can actually block the baby from the exit! All in all, I didn't have any issues with my epidural (except that it only partiality worked). Easy in, didn't hurt, could still move around for pushing.

nunkie Good luck tomorrow!
