Welcome to the 13th April 2015 babies thread!

The stats thread is here and we have a handy spreadsheet here

If anyone wants to join the FB group who hasn’t already, PM me your email address and I’ll send you an invite!

We’re in the home stretch ladies, we've had six babies, how many more threads can we manage before the last baby is here?

annia SAVE-50 isn't my code, it's the sites but it's a bigger discount for you than my code is...

AnniaFausta · 24/03/2015 14:00

Boo, I found save50 on the Facebook page and figures 50% off was probably about as good as I was going to get! So order now in, meaning we'll have a month with that and with Project B, but I don't think I mind, really. My only worry is getting things in very gendered colours, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, I think. And if it happens too much, there's always the unsubscribe option shrug

cinnamongreyhound · 24/03/2015 14:04

Nappy creams are funny daholster, I've never got on with metanium always found it just greasy and not much else but once you no what works for you you're never without it Grin

That's a shame AnniaFausta, hope you will be able to make the visit then. Thank goodness for Skype!

Bonkers RL20, this is a new mouth treatment I haven't heard of!

I hired one each time with mine and personally found it great wineandchoccy. Used it with ds1 until I had an epidural and with ds2 until they insisted on my laying down to be monitored and then it felt funny with my laying on it but that was 8-9cm and I used it at home and all the way to hospital. This time I've bought a second hand as it was cheaper than rental. Pregnancy/labour one has 4 pads rather than too and a pulse and constant setting but not sure a normal one would be dangerous?

They tend to be less likely to pop back out BrixtonBunny but it doesn't mean baby will come early.

Mine is weds Lauren82000, I've got 7 kids so Dh is coming to sit with them while I go in and hopefully get my stretch and sweep.

My baby's is currently 24mm bananatoast so I wouldn't worry. Better to get him checked though as repeated infections can have problems elsewhere too. The antibiotics are oral and can be given at home as well so although no ideal it's not a massive problem.

obeliaboo just go for a walk without the dog Grin

How's things TheBooMonster?

cinnamongreyhound · 24/03/2015 14:14

I feel everything at once today! Feeling tired but strangely ok, glad to be pregnant but fed up of it. Worrying about baby being born and how tough it's going to be so want him to stay put and wanting him here so any problems can be sorted and we can carry on with our lives. Have been told how neat and tiny my bump is, how I can't possibly have only 2 weeks to go and how I don't look pregnant from behind or in front. Looking forward to not being centre of attention but so worried about what's to come. Ds2 is so excited about the baby and keeps telling everyone as well as hugging my bump and saying 'baby'. Dh is desperate for him to stay put until Easter, I don't want to be induced but that is most convenient for everyone else and I just wish life wasn't so hectic!

Nunkie · 24/03/2015 14:22

Hello All!
Hope the growth scan went well Holly!
Daholster sounds like you had an emotional moment with DD, but good for you pulling her up on it. Too many parents don't!
Lauren I'm wondering if I've got a long passenger too, since MW told me this morning head is 2/5th engaged, but I don't feel any spare space up by my ribs!?

Welp... Currently sat in the hospital next to a cup of my own pee awaiting further assessment of raised blood pressure. Really hoping I don't mix up the pee and the bottle of water next to it! :0D Am slightly wondering if I end up leaving hospital with an external Peanut rather than an internal one - scary! Shock

Moomin I bloody hate litter, so I feel your irritation. To me it kind of says 'not only do I not respect other people and the environment, I don't respect myself either'.
Really, how much trouble is it to just put something in your goddamn pocket for two minutes?

(Actually my favourite part-time job at Uni was litter-picking along Pompey seafront. I really put my back into that shit! Grin)

FiRaffe · 24/03/2015 14:24

Aw cinnamon it's completely normal to want baby to stay, but equally to be able to make them better.

Just packing up to go the hospital. Fingers crossed!

TheBooMonster · 24/03/2015 14:33

cinnamon things are going well. We're home. Evie is a boobfiend and barely stops feeding. We're waiting for our first day home visit from the midwife but until she gets here I have hot flannels on my abused boobs :p I am just awaiting tomorrow's weigh in check with barely concealed panic. Dd is being fabulous with her which I totally didn't expect!

annia they're not actually that bad for gender coloured things, i have had 2 boxes so far and the only not gender neutral thing we've received is some pink sock-on's!

OP posts:
AnniaFausta · 24/03/2015 14:46

Aww, cinnamon, sod 'most convenient' for everyone else, you need to do what's right for you and your baby's health! Brew

Glad to hear your scan went well, Banana.

Eeek, Nunkie, hope everything turns out alright!

Good luck, FiRaffe!

Glad you're settling in well at home, Boo, and that DD is coming up trumps. I think part of the problem for the gendered thing may be that all the video bloggers/photo taking people with little girls put their DDs into v. fem outfits and it's not always clear what's from the box and what props come from mum... fingers crossed!

Lauren82000 · 24/03/2015 14:47

Lady- they smoke outside our hospital too and the worst bit is they tend to congregate outside the SCBU windows Angry It's disgusting and the hospital is supposed to be a smoke free zone.

PenguinPoser · 24/03/2015 14:49

Enjoying reading along today after a tough night with dd. I'm not a night person and am overtired which doesn't help with night feeds. Have been napping this morning and plan to do so again this afternoon. Need to cope better.

Hope things are ok Nunkie

Slightly Envy your feeding is going so well Boo but pleased for you Smile
Day 10 today and dd is 170g off her birth weight. Re weigh on Friday.
My neck and shoulders are hurting from feeding too! Need a massage!

obeliaboo · 24/03/2015 15:36

SquattingNeville i just sit around in vests that are too tight and my knickers and a dressing gown at home haha, i save my maternity jeans for anyone popping round or me popping out as they're the only thing that will fit my bottom half ha.

Its actually walking her that i miss cinnamongreyhound i cba going for a walk alone, its not the same as getting to watch a massive boxer go nuts collecting every stick she can xD

RL20 · 24/03/2015 16:25

Lauren glad baby has woken up properly! I have no idea what body parts I can feel moving around. Even when I'm told he's head down, it still doesn't give me much clue!

RE smoking - I had this conversation with my mum last week when I went for my growth scan! Women feel the need to stand smoking outside of the maternity front doors - WTF!?!?!
There's so many reasons for that to be wrong that I don't know where to start! They stand either side as well so you HAVE to walk past at least someone smoking! And last week I'm not talking the odd person, there must have been at least 5 people standing either side. There is a whole walkway and building to go and smoke near, outside the maternity unit doors? Really?! Angry

Wow Banana - I was told the same thing about the growth at my scan last week, and we share a due date. They have told me that he's growing ok but will be, at a guess, around 7lbs as he's 'more average' and isn't a big baby. At my midwife appointment the following day, they said my bump is still measuring behind, by around 2cm. So will see what they say at my next appointment next week.
Sorry to hear about the kidney news, but glad to hear the statistics are pretty good for it generally sorting itself out.

Cinnamon I'm also wanting to try a TENS machine, too. Although I found out at the antenatal class today that the hospital doesn't rent them out anymore. So I'll have to look at where else to hire one from, or buy one! I think she told me to get a maternity one, I can't remember!! I know that there are 2, but can't remember which is best to use!

Nunkie ooh exciting! Are you waddling now that baby's head is engaged?! Grin
P.S. I love Pompey seafront Smile

Good luck FiRaffe, and glad everything is going well Boo!

Aww Penguin, don't be too hard on yourself. It's still early days.

Well I had my last antenatal class today and it felt really weird leaving knowing I won't see any of the ladies again, and won't know how they got on with their births etc!
It was about pain relief, breathing, and general labour and birth!
Pretty scary but then on the other hand I was glad for someone to just show us and say look, this is what happens. She had a fake baby doll and a fake pelvis and explained (and shown) how the baby's head goes in the different stages of birth, from being such and such engaged, to going down the birth canal, to the vaginal opening Confused. Was all very interesting.

She also mentioned that even towards the end, and even if you go over your due date, baby should still be regularly moving as they have been, and to stick to the rule that with any uncertainty regarding baby's movements, you should still call straight away. I remember hearing that baby's movements slow down as they 'get ready for labour' in the last few weeks. So I'm glad she enlightened me!
She was also talking about epidural a and although she was recommending them to anyone who felt they might need one when the time comes, she was explaining that actually it's not as straight forward as we thought, well definitely me anyway! Obviously it numbs you from the abdomen area and down, but sometimes you may not be able to move your legs because of this, and during labour your bladder must always be emptied (which I didn't know either!). So if you feel like you can't wee, because well, you can't feel anything down there, then they do something with a catheter to drain the urine from you instead. So now I'm really not sure about an epidural! Will think about it more when I'm actually in labour, I think!

Talking of labour, I thought I was having early signs when I was in there! It's always very warm in there but I couldn't et comfortable and was feeling baby wriggling around quite low down. I kept having the feeling I was going to pass out and felt really sweaty, so I was constantly nipping into the kitchen area to top up my glass of water. I nipped to the loo twice just so I could get up and sit down in there as it was slightly cooler Blush Think I'm safe for now though.

36+1

cinnamongreyhound · 24/03/2015 16:35

Yes RL20 catheter is standard with epidural. I couldn't move my legs at all with mine and kept sliding down the bed as I couldnt sit well so Dh had to keep sliding me back up the bed. He even had to lift my legs into the stirrups when they decided they would help me give birth. Many of the reasons I think they shouldn't be shown on tv as easy options. But once I got feeling in my legs they removed my catheter and I got up and went to the toilet by myself and wouldn't have known I had ever had a catheter in. Dh was in a serious motorbIke accident in his early 20's and was in intensive care for 5 days so had a catheter and he has never been the same apparently. My TENS is the Elle labour TENS machine, same one I used with both my boys.

Some days I think that I've been really evil in a previous life, what a horrible afternoon I just want to cry. When is it my turn for an easy life?

FiRaffe · 24/03/2015 16:50

Just back, baby growing well although still in about 10th centile. Have been signed off Consultant care and he implied it might be worth pushing for the MLU, but don't hold out too much for it.

The sonographer was having problems with how low baby's head is - anyone else had that problem? could it be they've started to engage?

RL20 · 24/03/2015 16:52

Cinnamon I'm really tempted to rule out the idea now, although obviously it's hard to say until I'm in that position. But I was definitely enlightened to things that I had no clue about. Like you say, I've only known it as the easy option. Of course, numbing 'down there' for birth sounds great, so there was bound to be some sort of catch.

Oh no, what's wrong?

BananaToast · 24/03/2015 16:59

cinnamon Flowers hope you're ok, you've not had it easy at all lately.

RL people keep commenting on me being tiny but I'm quite happy with a 7lber! The more I've learned about epidurals the less I want one.

I've been investigating TENS machines and think I'm going to hire an Elle TENS. I'm quite on the fence as to whether I think it will help but figure for £20 odd it's worth a try. Hopefully it will help me stay at home longer.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/03/2015 17:05

Problems with one of my minded children, very difficult afternoon, she has problems which I won't discuss here but its so hard to know what to do for the best with her, her nan was no impressed mum asked her to come and get her from me and then nan was so harsh with her to the point I was welling up BUT you see such a small part of their lives when they're with you you have to trust that the family are doing the best for that child. I was meant to get a lift to toddlers this morning which I didn't get and led to lots of rushing around getting a packed lunch ready, having to hang around for a bit, walk further and having a stroppy ds2 as he couldn't spend time at home before school so I'm already pretty tired today. Had ds1 crying when he came out of school because he forgot he had a packed lunch and took school dinner that I hadn't paid for and ds2 crying because ds1 had an Easter cake with a chick that he didn't have. Said girl with her issues and another with a splinter so far in his had that he actually had a bruise and it had swelled. Dh is trying to get the car back home this afternoon before his Drs apt and they left him waiting so long he was late for Dr so isn't happy. I just want an easy day where everything goes to plan!

Wineandchoccy · 24/03/2015 17:11

Cinnamon sometimes a good cry makes everything better, hope you are ok Flowers

Thanks for the tens advice before, I am going to do a bit of research later but think I'm going to hire a labour/maternity one as I am sure the one I have would be fine but I don't want to take any risks.

DH is driving me mad with fussing today he has text me loads and I have just said the cat his due for his flea treatment he is now googling whether frontline is safe to use around pregnant ladies, who does he think has done it for the past 8 months! Confused Grin

FiRaffe · 24/03/2015 17:12

Oh cinnamon, sounds like a hell of a day. Hope your evening is better

RL20 · 24/03/2015 17:20

Oh cinnamon. Sounds like a rubbish day. Take some time out for yourself if you can, which I know must be hard with little ones. I think this Nan needs to realise that you are heavily pregnant, and should be grateful you are still doing the job you are doing, because many wouldn't be! You're a credit to yourself and every so often I think you need to give yourself a pat on the back! There will be better days, and as you probably know, they do say everything comes at once and it tends to be pretty true. A good day will soon come that will counteract the bad stuff Brew.

Banana yes I've had the same throughout! I didn't really have a fully showing bump in clothes until about 25 weeks. I had sickness and nausea up until 18 weeks so couldn't eat much and I thought that might be why, but no idea really. I've always had a small bump but at the scans it's been measuring 'correctly' up until a few weeks ago. So I can't wait for next weeks scan to see if bump had grown. I'm tempted to nip in to see a midwife tomorrow at the doctors as they are only there on Wednesdays. Just to see if they'll do a quick measure etc. I'm assuming I'd have to ring up though to see if they're busy, rather than just pop in.

MoominMama22 · 24/03/2015 17:47

Oh bugger. Blinds arrived from John Lewis and boxes were all ripped open and messily resealed. At the time me and the driver figured they were well wrapped inside so would be fine.... Sent him on his way.
Didn't think the reason they'd been opened is for someone to take out all the fittings and instructions and bundle the cloth part of the blind back in the box. Harrrrumph!

38+3

RL20 · 24/03/2015 17:56

Moomin that's no good! You wouldn't expect that from anywhere but especially somewhere like John Lewis. Looks like a call to customer services is on the cards!

Feeling a bit guilty for snacking on so much crap. When it comes to dinner I just can't finish it. I have dinner in front of me now and I've barely eaten anything of it so far and I just feel full. I need to stop snacking so much AngrySad

AnniaFausta · 24/03/2015 17:59

Moomin, what a weirdly specific theft! Fingers crossed John Lewis are as good as they usually are with resolving this sort of thing.

Cinnamon, I hope this evening goes smoothly and you get a bit of a breather. [cuppa]

I feel like I deserve a small medal for having walked down the hill into town for some errands and walked back up again. It can't be more than a mile and a half all told, but it feels like a major victory!

Lauren82000 · 24/03/2015 18:48

RL- re catheters just a word of warning, I had to have one as I was super doped up on Pethadine and couldn't leave the bed. So not just epidurals make them necessary. It did hurt as I was not numb and it was just as I was about to start pushing my bladder was squishing the way out.Confused

FiRaffe · 24/03/2015 18:57

They warned us in the NCT classes that if we couldn't empty our own bladder for any reason the midwifes would do it for us as it blocks baby's way out.

Well done with the walking Annia - good to keep moving.
