Lauren glad baby has woken up properly! I have no idea what body parts I can feel moving around. Even when I'm told he's head down, it still doesn't give me much clue!
RE smoking - I had this conversation with my mum last week when I went for my growth scan! Women feel the need to stand smoking outside of the maternity front doors - WTF!?!?!
There's so many reasons for that to be wrong that I don't know where to start! They stand either side as well so you HAVE to walk past at least someone smoking! And last week I'm not talking the odd person, there must have been at least 5 people standing either side. There is a whole walkway and building to go and smoke near, outside the maternity unit doors? Really?!
Wow Banana - I was told the same thing about the growth at my scan last week, and we share a due date. They have told me that he's growing ok but will be, at a guess, around 7lbs as he's 'more average' and isn't a big baby. At my midwife appointment the following day, they said my bump is still measuring behind, by around 2cm. So will see what they say at my next appointment next week.
Sorry to hear about the kidney news, but glad to hear the statistics are pretty good for it generally sorting itself out.
Cinnamon I'm also wanting to try a TENS machine, too. Although I found out at the antenatal class today that the hospital doesn't rent them out anymore. So I'll have to look at where else to hire one from, or buy one! I think she told me to get a maternity one, I can't remember!! I know that there are 2, but can't remember which is best to use!
Nunkie ooh exciting! Are you waddling now that baby's head is engaged?!
P.S. I love Pompey seafront
Good luck FiRaffe, and glad everything is going well Boo!
Aww Penguin, don't be too hard on yourself. It's still early days.
Well I had my last antenatal class today and it felt really weird leaving knowing I won't see any of the ladies again, and won't know how they got on with their births etc!
It was about pain relief, breathing, and general labour and birth!
Pretty scary but then on the other hand I was glad for someone to just show us and say look, this is what happens. She had a fake baby doll and a fake pelvis and explained (and shown) how the baby's head goes in the different stages of birth, from being such and such engaged, to going down the birth canal, to the vaginal opening
. Was all very interesting.
She also mentioned that even towards the end, and even if you go over your due date, baby should still be regularly moving as they have been, and to stick to the rule that with any uncertainty regarding baby's movements, you should still call straight away. I remember hearing that baby's movements slow down as they 'get ready for labour' in the last few weeks. So I'm glad she enlightened me!
She was also talking about epidural a and although she was recommending them to anyone who felt they might need one when the time comes, she was explaining that actually it's not as straight forward as we thought, well definitely me anyway! Obviously it numbs you from the abdomen area and down, but sometimes you may not be able to move your legs because of this, and during labour your bladder must always be emptied (which I didn't know either!). So if you feel like you can't wee, because well, you can't feel anything down there, then they do something with a catheter to drain the urine from you instead. So now I'm really not sure about an epidural! Will think about it more when I'm actually in labour, I think!
Talking of labour, I thought I was having early signs when I was in there! It's always very warm in there but I couldn't et comfortable and was feeling baby wriggling around quite low down. I kept having the feeling I was going to pass out and felt really sweaty, so I was constantly nipping into the kitchen area to top up my glass of water. I nipped to the loo twice just so I could get up and sit down in there as it was slightly cooler
Think I'm safe for now though.
