Gandalf, I'm feeling terrible! Pretty much constant nausea and, quite frankly, I'm tempted to tell the whole office as people are going to start to wonder why I'm so quiet and completely off the ball!

I've now got sickness bands (which seem to take the edge off it a bit), a stash of boiled sweets, cream crackers, ginger and lemon tea and erm ... Monster Munch. These all helped a bit but it feels like it's getting stronger now - eek!

My pregnancy app (Pregnancy +, which to be fair is pretty good) has recommended that I have a nap every afternoon. Erm, under my desk?

I'm taking the Pregnacare vitamins. Lovely to swallow when I'm feeling so ropey!

God, sorry - I'm such a moaner!

WinterBabyof89 · 02/03/2015 14:07

kep Re: vitamins - the ones the NHS provide are quite small.. They only contain essential vitamins but might be worth looking into/asking midwife about..
I'm on seven seas & they're freakin huge!
Yay for a fellow knitter.. Debbie bliss - yummy wool...

toots second the dodgy tummy! Hope you're feeling more settled today?

annbag, gandalf & Kep also another ELCS so October baby Smile

Got referred to the EPU this morning by the GP to rule out ectopic. We are the proud parents of a sack & yolk situated in my uterus, thankfully not a tube.
I am however constipated..ha.. She asked whether I was constipated - I said no, quite the opposite..I was then reprimanded for being in a hospital if I had a dicky tummy..sigh . Anyway, I've had to tell my preschooler than the pain in my tummy is because I need a big poo..
He doesn't know I'm pregnant again as he'd blab to the Parentals.. But he's a bright little spark & has probably listened in to all of my conversations!

So I need to up my water & fibre, and take lactulose tonight to get things moving..

Welcome newbian Smile xx

Ooo winter, nice work on the scan! Why did they refer you, were you having pain?

WinterBabyof89 · 02/03/2015 15:01

Yeah, persistent pain on my lower right side.
GP examined me & it was tender when he prodded so basically told EPUnit I was coming whether they liked it (they didn't like it as I'm so early @ 5+1 but they had me anyway)..
Booked in again for two weeks time - they didn't tell me why, but assume it's to see progression?

Hope everybody is okay?? Had snow/hail near me this morning.. Bring on Spring!!

Jumping on board! Got my BFP a few days ago and I've been testing every morning like a crazy woman Grin

This will be DC2 I already have DS1 who is 16months. Will be having an ELCS as had very traumatic EMCS with DC1. I feel sick thinking about how I'll probably have to argue for it Sad

Anyway congratulations everyone who has their BFP Flowers

WinterBabyof89 · 02/03/2015 15:24

mulligrubs welcome! And congrats on your bfp!
I hope that you don't face difficulties when the time comes to request an ELCS, but we shall be here to support you if you do Smile

annbag, gandalf, winter & mulligrubs - the ELCS crew!

winter - your GP sounds on the ball - glad all is in the right place, and another scan sounds good too. I have just had an e-mail back about an early private scan, so trying to decide whether to go at 6, 7 or 8 weeks. Maybe not 6, as it'll be Friday 13th!

I have been making a list of the crazy things I've been looking up:

  1. can I dye my hair to cover the odd hundred grey hairs - so far information seems inconclusive so would welcome any opinions
  2. can I have a hot bath?
  3. how hot is a hot bath? - conclusion - apparently 37 degrees, which in my book is blooming freezing. Had one last night, not pleasant, but needed it for my back.
  4. progression pics of FRERs - conclusion, I need to step away from the HPTs
  5. am I OK to still go on my all paid for and massively anticipated sote d'azur holiday in August - conclusion, YES, as I'll be 31 weeks on the way back (as long as I'm healthy obvs)
  6. which prenatal vitamin is the smallest? Conclusion - they are all mahoosive
  7. can I crush up/chew Pregnacare? conclusion - some woman on the internet emailed then and they said yes!
  8. can I eat jar mayo? conclusion, well I already knew this was yes but my MIL questioned it so I had to look it up to prove that i was right!
  9. miscarriage rates in early pregnancy - cause that is obviously cheery reading (although I do love the link someone posted earlier!)
  10. signs of ectopic pregnancy - as right sided dull ache is back - not worried really but will mention at GP appointment next Tuesday (so long to wait!)

Would love to see what everyone else is obsessing about researching Smile

Kep, I've been thinking about some of the above questions and this book seems really interesting - apparently it puts a lot of fears to rest and explains how most pregnancy advice is fairly low on its evidence base: www.theguardian.com/books/2013/sep/19/expecting-more-emily-oster-review.

I'm not going to use it as an excuse to booze and drink shed loads of coffee, but it's food for thought ...

WinterBabyof89 · 02/03/2015 16:00

kep love the list!
~ I box dye my hair.. And did with my last pregnancy.. Will do this time..I think the risks are minimal?
~ everybody must have googled ectopic/miscarriage info.. I don't believe anybody who says they haven't! Haha
~ Hot baths.. I think it's more applicable later on. I love a hot bath every now & then but when pregnant I tend to have it on the cooler side.. Don't want to cook my unborn!
~ holiday sounds lovely!

It's my understanding that they can't refuse a ELCS for any reason, however they can make strong recommendations.. It's kind of like the formula/breastfeeding arguments that midwives churn out.. They can try to sway you but ultimately it's your choice - so don't fret ladies.. All will be fine.. We will be wilfully cut open and bed bound for a day unable to piss by ourselves, before being harassed to get mobile to reduce clots/promote recovery.. And have to stab our bellies with a stinging injection everyday for 7 days which is bloody horrific..
If you have to argue for an ELCS, shove all that in their face.. Why would anyone choose that unnecessarily Grin

I think the hair dying advice is that peroxide directly on your scalp might not be a good idea (although I am very much in the relaxed camp on the banned list front) so if you're lightening your hair then highlights with foils are a better plan because only minimal amounts of the chemical get onto your skin. My hairdresser was the first, and until we told our parents this weekend, only person to be told about this pregnancy due to my dye requirements. Priorities and all that. I may be fat and have First Trimester Grey Face but my hair is on form.

Tinymrscollings · 02/03/2015 16:43

I'm in France mid-August. Usually a very boozy fortnight with friends. I am going to match their every glass with an item of delicious patisserie and put on a stone. All planned.

tootsroots · 02/03/2015 16:47

winter what injection is for 7 days?

Srry, never heard about the mysteries of birth ( medieval upbringing, dont mention to unmarried/non birthed what birth is like) Smile Confused

WinterBabyof89 · 02/03/2015 16:59

toots I had blood thinning injections in the tummy for 7 days following section - helps prevent clots and the like. God they stung!
Assumed it was common practice, however, I did have a clot behind my placenta so might have been down to that? But pretty sure they're the norm..heads off to google

Hi everyone, just catching up since yesterday has been spent mainly googling all about twin pregnancies!
Congratulations to everyone who has joined the thread since I was last online :-)

In answer to some of your questions, I'm actually only 6 weeks today, so still very early. I've still got some bleeding which seems to alternate between old & fresh blood but they've told me that's normal.
There's no twins in either of our families! They were able to tell me yest from the scan though that it was my right ovary that had released two eggs! Isn't technology amazing!!

Just under 3 weeks until our next scan which feels like an eternity, but I know we're lucky to get extra scans before the 12 week mark.

Winter, glad to hear all is ok with you after visiting the EPU today.

The aches and the cramps are a nightmare, every little twinge makes me question 'is this it'

Lots of positive thoughts to everyone on here :-)

BowiesJumper · 02/03/2015 17:09

Hello new types!

I dye my hair and as we were consciously ttc, I dyed it during my last period in case I got a bfp (surprisingly organised!). I won't be dying mine for the first 12 weeks but that's because I have all over colour which I do at home, rather than highlights, so it does get on my scalp, and from reading all the stuff about it, they advise not getting it on the scalp.

My sister is a midwife and I did ask and she just said - it's generally fine, better if a hairdresser does it because they know which dyes are gentler and can avoid the scalp more than a home dye. I'm just erring on the side of caution. I'll have terrible roots by 12wks!

WinterBabyof89 · 02/03/2015 17:09

username lovely update. Thanks my dear..Not surprised you've been googling twin pregs! You could be one of the first to have your babies with it being twins. I hope the next 3 weeks fly by for you!

I did think perhaps it will probably end up being October, but I'd like to stay on the November bus with you all!

FaintLineConfused · 02/03/2015 17:32

Winter Yeah those bloody injections! They can advise me as much as they want but after last time being so horrific nothing will change my mind from my ELCS this time around! As you say, I know exactly what it's like

Username that is amazing, twins! A family friend had twin DDs last year, they are lovely little girls Smile

As for the hairdye, apparently pregnancy hormones can make you more prone to allergies to the hairdye. So best to use with caution. I dyed my hair twice in my last pregnancy and it was fine. The smell knocked me sick though, I got "super nose" from about 7/8 weeks and I could smell everything avout about 1000x stronger than it was Grin even walking past a hairdressers would send me heaving!

Mulligrubs · 02/03/2015 17:33

Namechange fail by the way - Faint is me Grin

username it would seem at least half of us will be having October babies anyway..haha..so this is kind of a mid-late October/early-middle November thread atm haha..

Glad I went a little closer to natural colour last time I died my hair then! Will try & hold out for longer between dyes.. My roots aren't that bad yet!

mulligrubs loving the determined attitude.. Grin good for you!

At least with an elective you can't end up with an emergency section.. I remember saying last time in labour when they found out DD was breach just before the abruption happened (10mins apart) that to have an emergency section under GA was my worst nightmare.. Ridiculous considering what happened next... But I'm so looking forward to hopefully being awake & in the moment & watching as much as they'll let me because weird like that
It's been a bit sad to think I'll never have the chance of a vaginal birth with little intervention, but need to grieve that & move on.. Has anybody else felt like this?

Honestly, 5 weeks & I'm planning my section Hmm calm down winter..

Hello all Smile

I'm genuinely thinking about an ELCS. One of my friends had one and said it was the best thing EVER. DS was VBAC (is that what it's called?) and it was all a bit scary. Heyho.

Lots of cramps - keep panicking when i feel them - is anyone else the same? Also, way way TMI, lots of CM. Which just adds to the panic... Sob!
