Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 22nd grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 39th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread in postnatal clubs here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

So, roll call below please, viroids!

Hallo grads .... JSers need a new Fred starting. Any takers?

willywallace · 28/02/2015 18:13

Ooh picture when finished on fb Tee?

La that thing looks great. She's ok at sleeping in her crib now though as long as she's asleep when she goes down. But during the day I suppose she's hard to put down so it may be useful for then. Expensive for something which is just for a few months though. When I find out what's happening at this hospital appointment, I'll see if I can get a better baby carrier and that should keep her happy in the daytime.

Indigoblue2 · 28/02/2015 19:38

I know it's agggeessss away for me, but anyone got any ideas on a home birth for your first? Is it mental?

I keep reading about how home births are generally more relaxing, you feel more in control etc etc. I've also read that the rate of episiotomy and other interventions (forceps etc) are lower. When the midwife asked me first of all where I wanted to give birth, I said Aberdeen as it has a MLU and hospital right next door to each other. But the more I think about it I do ideally want minimal intervention. I'm about an hour away from the hospital though and I do know a lot of women end up being transferred.

Anyone else had/considered a home birth and do you think it's crazy for a first timer with no idea of what to expect?

gaggiagirl · 28/02/2015 20:13

Not crazy indigo not at all. My Dsis who is a total HIPPY I cant emphasize that enough.....HIPPY, no telly, weaves organic lentils, doesn't believe in soap (I love her dearly) wanted a home birth for her first but instead opted for minimal intervention at the mlu. She had NO pain relief nutter and delivered the baby herself in the pool. She managed it all by herself really, just the odd words of encouragement or direction from the midwife.
Would you fancy something like that? At least then help is at hand if you need it.

teejayem · 28/02/2015 20:20

Yep, I think pic will be tomorrow tho wil as furniture only turned up at 6! Mr tee has put together the chest of drawers so far. Plus his weight bench is still in there, and I don't have any nice transfers on the wall, so it'll be a work in progress.....

laurenamium · 28/02/2015 21:13

Looking forward to the nursery pictures tee!

The NICU doctor was lovely, talked me through what would happen now if I went into labour and what would happen if I held on until 34 weeks, and then took me and DP around the unit. It wasn't anywhere near as scary as I thought it would be and I only cried a little bit! DP has gone home for the night now and I'm trying to be positive, there's only me in my ward of 4 beds. In fact there's only me in the whole ward at the minute I think, and I'm struggling in that I've only been away from DD a night before so this is my longest. I know she's ok and have seen her today but its not the same!

Mumsnet and rubbish Telly to get me through because I have no chocolate and the shops shut

willywallace · 28/02/2015 21:18

Sigh I suppose I can wait Tee Wink

Well Indigo I think you're a bit mental Wink . Not really. I wouldn't contemplate it because I'm full of fear about such things but plenty of people do it and I guess that's how most babies used to be born. If you've got no reason to be concerned about anything and you think you'd feel more comfortable then go for it.

laurenamium · 28/02/2015 21:24

How quickly could you get to hospital in an ambulance if you needed to indigo? I was considering it this time around at the beginning! I like the idea of being at home and familiar surroundings with your own things around you!

ZylaB · 28/02/2015 21:48

lauren huge hugs to get you through the night! Look on the bright side, at least no one will be snoring on the ward to keep you awake! ;)

townsender · 28/02/2015 22:09

Lauren I guess you've already found most of the useful stuff, but Bliss is a great charity and has loads of info on the NICU and what to expect. But if you've had a tour then that's even better.

I spent 12 days with my first on the NICU, and I've seen the amazing things they can do for babies as early as 23 weeks. 32 weeks, you'll be fine, might be a bit bumpy at first but they are so so good in the NICU.

townsender · 28/02/2015 22:17

Question for you ladies - has anyone been prescribed progesterone pessaries during pregnancy before? My plan says I'll be on them (cyclogest) from 16-34 weeks. The side effects sound remarkably similar to 1st trimester sickness Hmm.

And another question. This is such a middle class problem, apologies! Anyone know if it's safe to eat sushi in Japan? I've been happily eating supermarket stuff here as it's been frozen, but I'm off to Tokyo on business next week, and suspect I'll need to be a lot more careful in restaurants there.

gaggiagirl · 28/02/2015 22:35

town No! Dont! I have no reasons or evidence but just eat cereal bars that you have taken with you! I'm mostly boycotting chicken currently.

laurenamium · 28/02/2015 22:38

Boycotting chicken gaggia? Grin

Thanks towns I'll google bliss now!

DulcetMoans · 28/02/2015 22:39

Not a big sushi eater town but I am sure I read somewhere that it is safe if you trust the source. It's about the quality of the fish and preparation. I imagine some places in japan must be as trustworthy as it can be! But, take advice elsewhere as I don't even remember why I was looking that up. Might have to consider the type of fish you have - no shark ever!!

So pleased you got some information lauren. Were there babies in NICU when you looked around? Any progress if they will let you home tomorrow?

indigo - also not my choice but if you are classes as low risk and you aren't too far from hospital if it was needed then why not? A birth unit could be a nice compromise if you weren't sure though, like gaggia said.

Does anyone know if you can donate mattresses or how you get rid? I hate my mattress and have convinced myself I need a new one! Because paying for new windows isn't expensive enough...

teejayem · 28/02/2015 22:46

I've been a bit gung ho with the food thing to be honest, and yep among other 'banned' things I've had sushi from Yo!, wasabi and a small independent. i suppose it might be deemed irresponsible, but I read Expecting Better (think it was popz that pointed me in that direction) and I've taken a less militant approach perhaps than is recommended. I actually feel guiltier for the multipacks of nik naks I was getting through daily than the occasional sashimi or rare steak!

DulcetMoans · 28/02/2015 22:49

clicky linky for picture funnies

laurenamium · 28/02/2015 22:53

dulcet where I live you leave mattresses out your front on a Wednesday and the scrap metal men come and take it Grin

Ill be allowed home Monday morning after a scan, they want to keep me the full 72 hours from my waters going. There was babies on NICU, we didnt look closely in the incubators as I was trying to hold it together and I felt it would be a bit invasive but there was families in the bit where the babies are getting ready to go home and those were absolutely tiny too!

I've never had sushi. Am I missing out?

lildottie · 01/03/2015 00:46

town I was on cyclogest for my ivf cycle. no symptoms other than normal post icing symptoms on them. I didn't get any pg symptoms until beans started producing the hcg so you may be fine. what dose are you on? I was on 400mg 2x per day. I'd recommend doing them vaginally rather than rectally, messier but they gave me terrible trapped wind when I used the back door!

willywallace · 01/03/2015 01:12

Hi Lil, how are you getting on?

It's scary how small they are Lauren.

Dulcet, you can probably pay the council to pick it up? Although sure there must be a more environmentally friendly option.

batfish · 01/03/2015 06:27

lauren my friend had a baby unexpectedly (well it was expected obviously but not just yet) yesterday at 35 weeks - he was 5lb 10oz and they are keeping him on NICU for a few days to strengthen his lungs a little bit but he is doing great. It was actually her baby shower yesterday so we had it without her as we had all made food!

laurenamium · 01/03/2015 06:38

Grin At having her baby shower while she's in labour Bat! I hope you sent her lots of photos of you all having fun too!

I hope to get that far along that would be great! Whether the baby will hang on 3 weeks is anyone's guess but I've got everything crossed! I've started a thread in pregnancy so I can stop moaning on here and hogging the thread Grin 24 more hours and ill be thinking about home GrinGrin

willywallace · 01/03/2015 06:48

You're not moaning or hogging! You're being immensely positive! Hope all is well and you get home today.

That's so funny you had the party without her Bat.

The baby is still asleep! I've had to get up to express as my boob was about to explode.

laurenamium · 01/03/2015 07:02

Good news wil on DC still sleeping but not about you having to be awake anyway! Will you manage to go back off to sleep after or is this you for the day?

LaLaLaaaa · 01/03/2015 07:06

Hi all! Lauren we want to hear how you're doing, please don't feel that you're moaning! We've followed your pg since you did a kitten (envy face!) and this is part of the journey. I hope you're ok, must have been a bit scary being on your own. Glad you got to see the unit, I think I would have been very emotional too.

Sushi in japan - I would say big no. It's the parasites that are the worry. In the uk the freeze the raw fish before use which is why it's ok. Unless you know they can guarantee same thing in Japan I'd steer clear.

Indigo i have been told lots about the benefits of home births and would consider it if a) hospital wasn't 45 min drive away if something went wrong, b) I wasn't in a terraced house where neighbours would hear all my efforts, c) I didn't have 2 cats who would likely find it very stressful and/or try to get in the pool with me.

I've had the nicest time helping with my friends baby. She's 3 weeks old, pudgy and gorgeous. I just want my baby here now! She is ff so I've learned how to do all that and I've been changing her and stuff so I feel a bit more clued up. I do wonder about the difference with bf is. How do you know when they've had enough? She wakes up, is changed, has bottle, goes back to sleep. Either I've caught her at a really good 24 hours or she is an easy baby. She does have to be held lots though and that bit is very tiring. She's so cute I could cuddle her all day!

My friend has been trying to suss out my baby's sex. Failed so far...

Towns - hugs x hope you're doing ok

Dulcet in Edinburgh if you want rid of furniture you just stick it in the street. Blink and it's gone like magic! So handy. But here I would either fold to get in car and take to tip or phone council to collect. They're coming to get my sofa on Monday as new one arrives wed hooray!

I've just had worst night ever with trapped wind (bloody curry!). Woke up in extreme pain. Randomly my daisy training popped in my head so I got up and did arms above head drawing circles, as she always says it helps digestion. 2 minutes later I did three massive burps and problem solved!

Lol at the poor lady who missed her shower bat! Did you save her a cupcake?

DulcetMoans · 01/03/2015 08:07

Haha. Thanks for the mattress tips! I think you are right - if I left it out the front it would be gone by morning. Would rather give to someone that needs it though. But I've had a second idea - a memory foam mattress topper! Looking into that now.

How's that for Sod's law then bat, a baby shower without the mum! Did she know you were having it?

You aren't moaning lauren! I agree with wil, you've been so positive! Just say whatever you want to say.

I think knowing they've had enough is one of the problems la. Speaking to a friend from work whose baby is two weeks tomorrow, she was saying she's had good support from midwife this week to identify when she's had enough as she was feeding for 60-90mins at a time but half that time she's just suckling. It sounds like a science!

There's some cots on eBay that end today. Hoping to get a good deal. All seem to be mamas and papas ones and good quality.
