Well done soph, boy o boy sounds like you had fun having him!

Spent the night on the sofa Sad Could not get comfy or to sleep in bed, there are not enough cushions in the world to prop me up enough to prevent the indigestion / heartburn adequately, and allow hubby to stay in there! And I was too hot. So propped myself up on the sofa and managed a few hours here and there. I'll be so glad to be able to lay comfortably again. 39w here so not long to go. We've told LO it's allowed out from Sunday, week 41 of OH's employment Grin

I'm thinking about getting moving but for some reason I feel knackered already Confused

I think it is LittleMiss. FTM myself and my due date is today Shock . Still absolutely no sign that this baby is ready to join the world. My hospital notes talk about being offered a sweep at my 40 week appointment today but I'm planning on giving her another week to arrive by herself before interventions. Hope mw doesn't have any other plans. I'm not mentally prepared yet!! Eek!

BanglesSpangles · 29/01/2015 08:49

Morning all and congrats soph!

Dentist this morning so a bit of a later start for me (and less time in the increasingly boring office! ), cold has spawned a cough so hope i don't splutter to much over the dentist!

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 29/01/2015 09:00

Congrats soph Flowers.

blankfornames · 29/01/2015 09:06

Suzi, my consultant said the same. He wants to give me a sweep at my next appointment...I'll be 38+6 then.

What are the chances of a sweep working (ftm) and does it make for a more painful labour?

Honeybird · 29/01/2015 09:14

Congratulations soph he is lovely!

I'm also a bit iffy about a sweep, read somewhere it can possibly make your waters go earlier which isn't best for baby's comfort. I'm a little paranoid about that as my first was a cesarean due to fetal distress at about 5cm. Waters broke very early on and I had had an epidural, both of which can contribute to fetal distress. They want to sweep me at 38+5 but I don't see the hurry and plan to refuse that one. Might go for it at a slightly later stage though as I get more desperate to get this over! 38 weeks today... Finish work in one week.

Honeybird · 29/01/2015 09:16

Blank there isn't hard evidence sweeps actually work to stimulate labour, just anecdotal, but it wouldn't make it any more painful, just get things going if anything.

Honeybird · 29/01/2015 09:17

And while I have heard the thing about waters going I should point out there's no hard evidence of that either...

BanglesSpangles · 29/01/2015 09:18

Oh dear oh dear, dentist said my teeth are very healthy but that i have 'the worst gums she's seen in a long time in a pregnant lady'- oops! Have promised faithfully to come back as soon as the baby's born as there's nothing they can do at the mo

On the plus side at least it's the fault of my hormones rather than the usual telling off for not flossing properly!

donkir · 29/01/2015 09:22

I had a booklet given to me yesterday and in there it said if it's your first you'll be offered a sweep at 40 weeks and if it's your 2nd at 41 weeks.
It aims to stimulate the natural production of prostaglandins. It can be uncomfortable. It doesn't cause harm to baby and there is no evidence that it makes labour longer or more painful.
You can refuse a sweep but it's a much nicer way than the induction of labour.

Memphisbelly · 29/01/2015 10:05

Congrats soph glad after a bit of an ordeal your boy is here safe.

Blank early sweeps don't reslly do anything unless your cervix is favourable. It is less likely it is if it is your first, i had one at 38+5 and I was favourable and 2cm dialated cervix was already soft but still long, after a sweep a week later I was no different at all!

Bangles oh dear well think positive its all free treatment!

Well I have a tmi and a bit of advice please please if you need stitches take it easy I split some stitches last night, luckily furthest away from my fanjo but I have been told by maternity unit even if it was totally split they do not restitch they let it heal then gynae will sort it after 6 months ShockConfused mine is just one stitch on the top layer so going to get antibiotics to make sure it doesnt get infected

Bangonthedoor · 29/01/2015 10:06

blank I've had cravings but nothing strange! The other night in bed, all I could think about was the potato salad sat in the fridge. I couldn't rest until I had eaten it....the whole pot Blush

littlemiss I think it is common to be late with your first but having said that I know lots of ftm's who have had their little ones early either by a couple of weeks or a couple of days. I've also known subsequent babies to also arrive late so it really is true they just come when they're ready!

I was induced with DD as went 2 weeks over, literally nothing out of the induction process worked so I think if she wasn't forced out she would have stayed inside for another 2 weeks! I had 2 sweeps at home at 40 wks and then 41 wks and both were completely unsuccessful as my cervix was closed, hard, long - all the things you don't want it to be! So I think sweeps only tend to make a difference if the cervix is ready. If it's not then they're pointless. I had one successful sweep at the hospital just before I had the drip put in but that was probably down to my cervix being a bit riper due to all the different drugs they had put up there!

This time round I probably won't bother having a sweep unless I'm ridiculously late again....which I bloody hope I'm not!

I don't know where all this nausea has come from today?! I feel absolutely knackered!

Bangonthedoor · 29/01/2015 10:09

Ouch memphis! Confused

After my tear with DD they sent me home with antibiotics to take anyway just in case an infection starts. I think they should just do this automatically with anyone who has stitches.

JacktheLab · 29/01/2015 10:20

Morning all,

Short message, I've been walloped by the baby blues, so just checking in and will be back when I feel a bit more like myself.

Congrats to all the new babies and mummy's :)

freneticfox · 29/01/2015 10:42

Congratulations Soph! :D Flowers

sandulacek · 29/01/2015 11:14

Morning all

congrats soph Flowers

11am and the heartburn beast is setting in ...

memphis sounds painful!

Memphisbelly · 29/01/2015 11:16

Bang I agree even if they just send you with the script to collect if you need it.
My best (man) friend has just been to see him, he has a toddler but in true bloke style didn't want to hold the baby Grin

BanglesSpangles · 29/01/2015 11:20

yowch memphis, that is definitely a reminder to rest up! Hope it's not too painful. Was reading yesterday that something ridiculous like 95% of VBs involve some degree of tearing, even if it's only minor. Really wishing I'd done perineal massage now!!

Hope you're OK jack

Honeybird · 29/01/2015 11:38

I had some 'grazing' last time which needed no treatment just healed without me really knowing what that meant. Anybody got any idea whether that would classify as some degree of tearing, or was I in the lucky 5%? I'm maybe a bit complacent this time, thinking it will just be the same again...

Feel better soon jack.

Bangonthedoor · 29/01/2015 11:41

Take good care jack. Don't think about anything or anyone else but you and your little family for now. Brew

Bangonthedoor · 29/01/2015 11:43

I don't think grazing is classed as tearing honey.....could be wrong though

Mimosa1 · 29/01/2015 11:44

Congratulations Soph, and Jack, I'm sorry to hear you've been hit with the baby blues. I hope you feel better soon and have lots of support in RL, plus you know you can always come on here to moan!

Today is my due date but no signs of anything exciting happening (just as well as DH had a work event last night and was slightly hung boer this am!)
The midwife had previously said she'd give me a sweep at this afternoon's appointment, so fingers crossed it moves things along.

trukevoli · 29/01/2015 11:53

memphis, just wondering if you could help me. Trying to work out which witch hazel to get and what type of arnica. also anything else that may help post birth!

Jack hope you are ok. Just look after yourself. x

suzimagoozi · 29/01/2015 12:00

I'm with truk - looked everywhere for witch hazel and only found it distilled (designed to be used as a facial toner). Was thinking mixing products containing alcohol and stinging lady bit injuries is not a good idea? Sad Feeling confused though as no one else seems to know where to get it in any other form. Tried health food/hippy/aromatherapy type stores plus Boots...

Minichuch · 29/01/2015 12:23

Yep I'm also in for finding the witch hazel - looked in boots yesterday bur couldn't see any - in fairness I did have the thought of tackling mothercare with mil and fil on my brain so

Does anyone else have mil issues - I just get the feeling as a ftm she thinks I am going to be completely useless and unable to cope if dh isn't there - we found out yest he's gotta have an op to remove part of bowel so need to shuffle his paternity leave around so he may have to work when first have lo then have time off later - I'm fine with this apart from mil deciding I can either go stay there or she can come stay with me and she can be there everyday to help out (she lives like 5 mins drive from us and is retired) - how do I politely say I am a 34 yo woman I can look after myself and a baby now piss off out of my house and leave me in peace without upsetting her
