mini - I would try to tell her how you need to bond as a family and that you feel the best way for you is to do it alone as it can be harder when all the help is gone if you grow reliant on it.

I am struggling with mine telling me what I can and can't buy for the baby, what I can and can't wear in the hospital, that her children survived and therefore I don't need any of the stuff we have got (car seat, a carrycot on the back seat would suffice), that I do not need the heating on as baby will get used to the cold, I shouldn't breastfeed, the baby would be fine in another room and doesn't need us as much as we think and that my cats will kill the baby.

on top of this my bf is really upset as this is their first grandchild and they are planning a 2 week holiday when the baby will either be a few weeks old or not born yet. I see this as a plus side they only live 5 minutes away!

jenmcspen · 29/01/2015 12:49

Feel like I have loads to catch up on as have been caught in new baby breastfeeding haze and juggling visitors and appointments all over the place!

jack hope u r okay. Thinking of you x

I had a 2nd degree tear and my advice would be ibuprofen to help with any swelling, keep ur fluids up so ur wee is diluted (sorry if tmi!). Also pouring water down there when u wee the first few days really helps.

I bought distilled witch hazel as was all I could find. doesn't sting but didn't start using it til day 4 when we were home. Also putting pads in fridge is quite soothing!

Was told only to use plain water to bathe in, but mw advised a couple of drops of lavender pure essential oil in it. Really relaxing for achy muscles and smells lovely.
Not to be used before baby tho!

Hope everyone is ok and so nice to see babies arriving!

frenetic so pleased for u re c section. Glad things seem much more positive Smile

Congrats Soph!!
Jack, look after yourself, it's bloody hard work.
Had 36 week midwife appointment today, baby is head down and 2/5 engaged, all looking good at the mo!
One more week at work, so ready to do nothing for a bit!!

Purpletoes · 29/01/2015 13:18

Hi everyone.

It's lovely to hear about all the babies.
It's been a while. This pregnancy has been a lot more problematic than my first.

I had a bleed at 29 weeks diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 31 weeks. Had a fall at 33 and this morning and yesterday had reduced movements at 36+4. Had it checked out this morning and all ok. The next 3 weeks can not go fast enough for me.
My gd is diet control so will be allowed to go to 39+6 before being induced. Would love to go naturally so trying to walk as much as I can.

I too can recommend water in jug whilst peeing as had a small tear after my ds.

I started my mat leave this week and am trying to sort out the house and hospital bag.

On way to get measured for nursing bra.

Hopefully now I am not at work I can post more often. GrinGrinGrin

mini if she only lives 5 minutes away then there really is no reason for her to come and stay! I mean, just reassure her that you'll call if you need anything and she can be there in a flash. And anyway, who in their right mind wants to attempt sleeping in a house with a baby crying all night?!

Luckily my IL's are very used to my bluntness. I popped in for a cuppa yesterday. Turns out they've bought bump a rocking horse. Like how long until LO is going to be able to sit on one of them?! I just stood there, rubbed bump and spoke to bump apologising to it for its' grandparents ;-D They are going to store it, I insisted. Then to really crack me up they showed me the my little pony they had bought for the niece, so she 'didn't feel left out'. They are so sweet etc.. but as for common sense, totally lacking. Bless 'em!

Just got a call to say the carpet has been delivered, fitting will be on Tuesday, can't wait to get the nursery finished and stuff put away in there. Might be able to relax after that ;-D

Congrats Soph, your son looks adorable. Sounds like you had quite a journey to meeting him, so hope you can enjoy the cuddles and are not too awfully sore/exhausted.

Take care, jack. It's really hard when that kicks in. Make sure you are being looked after and be kind to yourself.

If anyone else is interested, there is a baby event at aldi today, Muslins and bottles and sterilisers and nappies etc so on there, seemed pretty good value!

Memphisbelly · 29/01/2015 15:08

Witch hazel gel is £1.99 in boots it may be near spot treatments.

PeppermintInfusion · 29/01/2015 15:42

Mini, I'm in the same boat with MIL- I know she generally means well but she is crazy.
She's bought/acquired a lot of random/duplicate/triplicate/unnecessary items, informed me she is taking a fortnight off work when my husband finishes paternity leave to 'take the baby off my hands' every day Hmm, invited loads of extended relatives/friends to come see me in the hospital (potential c section, no way) and thinks my dog will kill the baby (whilst claiming it was her mother's concern not hers) to name but a few things.
I fell on Tuesday in work and had to go for a precautionary scan and anti-d, so she has phoned me twice a day since and has suggested I don't leave the house unaccompanied til the baby's born Confused

PeppermintInfusion · 29/01/2015 15:43

Surf, there are baby events on in asda and tesco if anyone is stocking up

BanglesSpangles · 29/01/2015 15:53

God I really should appreciate my MIL more than I do!- All I've had from her is a lot of good wishes, help wallpapering the baby's room and a voucher for a pedicure :D

She was ridiculously hands-on with her daughter's baby (was in the delivery room and everything), but has been keeping a respectful distance so far!

Minichuch · 29/01/2015 16:26

I'm so glad its not just my mil that is driving me crazy - don't get me wrong I love her dearly but she just does my tree in - she is a completely different generation she had dh at 41 so is in her mid 70's - I haven't had the cats will kill the baby yet but dh has got told off for letting me walk across a shopping centre to mothercare just in case I fainted along the way

GeekyHybrid · 29/01/2015 16:35

MIL's! They do come out with stuff don't they mini. I've also had the "well I was working right until the day he arrived, and lifting 50kilo bags of animal feed at that" etc.. See, common sense, totally absent! Just think of all the mileage comedians have got out of MIL's over the years and it definitely isn't just you.

I meant to ask mini - what's your hubby's bowel op for? Mine had around half of his removed 2 years ago :-/ Tumour was in a well awkward place hence so much was removed to allow reconnection if that makes sense. I'm hoping it's a bit less in your case.

OP posts:
Minichuch · 29/01/2015 16:50

geeky he got rushed into hospital last Easter and was diagnosed with chrons disease - its affected where his large and small intestine meet and they basically aren't talking to one another so need to rejoint it and remove his appendix - nothing as bad as a tumour but still major surgery - we were warned it would happen and expected it in late summer but brought forward to Easter time so will be fun in our house 8 week old baby and a laid up husband - flip side is we all get 6-8 weeks at home together as a family which will be pretty cool

Grinningcat · 29/01/2015 17:00

Baby is breech. Boo Hiss. I have to go for ECV next Wednesday to try and push LO around. Apparently they try that twice (50% success rate) and then offer a ELCS at 39 weeks if it isn't successful. Oh and there is a 1 in 200 chance of needing a ELCS there and then. And I was just looking forward to a lovely week off with my feet up! Bet DH won't be able to get the time to come with me either.

I am appreciating my MIL more and more. She lives 25 mins away and is retired, but is brilliant. She has made it clear that she will be only too happy to help out, but will never force herself.

Honeybird · 29/01/2015 17:01

My mil told me I wasn't allowed to crochet during pregnancy as the umbilical cord would get tangled. That more kicking means the baby will be naughty. Ditto if I am stressed or if I eat spicy food.

We have cultural as well as generational differences going on...

Grinningcat · 29/01/2015 17:03

Mini my DH also has Crohns Disease (c.6/7 years now), but has thankfully so far avoided any removal of his bowel. He does have to go for treatment in hospital every 8 weeks which his miserly boss makes him take as annaul leave rather than sick leave.

Minichuch · 29/01/2015 17:04

grinning I've got scan next Thurs to see if baby breech - hopefully baby will move round for you but you'll have to let me know how turning baby goes in case I end up with the same please

GeekyHybrid · 29/01/2015 17:12

honey that is classic, no crochet ;-/ I'd sit there eating curry whilst doing crochet just to wind her up!!

mini - chrons is still annoying enough. At least it sounds like the surgery should be keyhole. They'd hoped keyhole for my OH but then he had an 8" scar plus 5/6 'keyhole' punctures, hmmm. If they can keep it keyhole his recovery will be a lot quicker so good luck on that. And as you say, bonus of getting time together whilst baby is little. O, and the after affects of bowel surgery as sooo glam, not! If they offer to keep him in hospital for a few days after I'd get him to take them up on the offer ;-/

My IL's won't be meeting their first grandchild until they come over on holiday in July. DH is an only child but I think my MIL was so concerned about giving us space with a newborn that she's taken it to the extreme. I have said multiple times they are allowed to come earlier but flights (from Aus) have been booked already. LO will be nearly 6 mths!

Grinningcat · 29/01/2015 17:17

Of course I'll let you know how it goes.

To add to the mix, I'm also Rh Neg and will probably have to have another anti D injection because of the ECV. Oh well, I've had a relatively easy pregnancy so far. Law averages dictates that something wouldn't go to plan somewhere down the line. At least its a diagnosed breech.

sandulacek · 29/01/2015 17:41

honey the link between crocheting and umbilical cord made me laugh Grin

BanglesSpangles · 29/01/2015 17:58

Ah boo indeed grinning- hope the ecv will work for you

freneticfox · 29/01/2015 18:19

Hope the ECV does the trick, grinning!

Gosh, these posts make me really appreciate my MIL, she's fantastic! Admittedly both her and my Mum live a couple of hours away so it's not like they just pop round, but both have been fantastic throughout. It's my mum's first grandchild so she's been higher up on the excitement scale, but I think that's to be expected!

Got a sore spot on my bump today, think little cub has been kicking one area repeatedly. 38w appt tomorrow so will mention it.

Hope everyone is having a comfortable evening!

Memphisbelly · 29/01/2015 18:29

My mil came today and bought baby 0-3 month shorts and t shirt socks for a 12-18 month old and a packet of lovely vests with pink bunnies and flowers on......for my son! Nutter!

Im sick of visitors, Loads today as its my birthday tomorrow. We had managed to stagger them through the week but today at one point we had 4 people plus us in the house. And all together about 10 visits. Im used to a quiet house.

Memphisbelly · 29/01/2015 18:42

Jack hope you are ok, thinking of you and come and chat on here if and when you can
