Just put prunes in a blender do you reckon, or is it more sophisticated than that?

aberjen · 27/01/2015 19:43

cuphat thanks for the book recommendations. Did your DD already 'get' that there's a baby in mummy's tummy before you got the books, or did they help with that? I don't think DD (20 mo) has got it at all, and don't know if I should be trying to do more, or just leave it Confused

ellstor · 27/01/2015 19:43

Anyone else having weird chest pains? When I breathe out and in and the. If I was to press on bump- when I let go it sort of tightens? Feels so weird but I sort of feel like it might be normal? Happened on 2 occasions today for about 5 mins.
I have read in places that this could be normal because of baby pushing all your bits up!

Hope to god someone else has felt this!

aberjen · 27/01/2015 19:44

Where are my mannere? Thanks for the new thread tits! Grin

aberjen · 27/01/2015 19:50

longest when I used to make apricot purée for dd I would simmer dried apricots in a bit of water to rehydrate and soften them before blending - maybe the same if you're using dries prunes?

plinkyplonks · 27/01/2015 19:51

ellstor - Had some weird chest compression / tightenings since about week 25. Definitely finding upper body is starting to get squished by the baby! No sharp pains though, just a dull ache that comes and goes, particularly across my lower ribcage :P

Had my GTT blood test today. Drink itself was revolting - tasted like crushed up sugar cubes with added water. Managed to not be sick which was a plus point. Went to go for my blood test but they couldn't find a vein :P 25 minutes in and they managed to complete the blood test successfully :D No more blood tests until 34 weeks now - thank god for that!

Blood test results back tomorrow so really do hope they come back OK :D Don't want to go through that again!

cuphat · 27/01/2015 19:52

Aberjen, she already knew there was a baby in my tummy as we had told her straight away and she picks things up very quickly. She was lifting my top up trying to see baby before we got any books! The house inside my mummy book should help to explain though as it explains your tummy getting bigger, sickness and tiredness etc. I wouldn't worry though, as although DD knows there's a baby in there and is asking for it, and the I'm a New Big Sister book tries to prepare siblings for all the crying and time spent feeding baby it'll still be quite a shock for her!

aberjen · 27/01/2015 19:56

Thanks cuphat Smile

BeanCalledPickle · 27/01/2015 20:10

We have there's a house inside my mummy. Polly way more interested in the toy cars the little boy has!! I think she understands there is a baby in there but can't appreciate what that means.

Top tip from my Nct class was to have a breastfeeding box; a box of special toys or books and snacks which you whip out when you whip your boobs out, in theory to distract and entertain while feeding. This sounds like a good idea to me!

Firing people not fun. A few tears. None from me. Didn't share the fact I was thinking this will really screw my leaving collection. I kind of get I'm not the real victim here!!

SmileyScooby · 27/01/2015 20:18

Wowzers, we are a chatty bunch!

Weight wise last time I got on scales which I think was last week I'd put on 10lbs eek...crazy when don't think have been eating much more than before. My boobs haven't obviously grown but I noticed that bras aren't as comfy as used to be, will have to go looking for nice non-wired ones - I want padded ones as my boobs look weird if not padded (weird shape etc!!)/don't want to be 'smuggling peanuts' with my almost permanently erect nipples either hehe

tits ive got a busy half term appointment wise, blood test, midwife, hospital. My anti-d injection isn't until March.

I think my pelvic floor muscles are shot already, have been doing exercises (when remember!)

Still haven't bought anything yet....but saw a really cute outfit in asda :) Movement wise sometimes have been getting lots of little like muscle spasm feelings in bump area so dunno what causing that, also pull like feeling by belly button.

Bean I know that feeling all too well re the toilet and have had to scurry away myself before now...hope you have a better evening!

Plinky hope results are good :)

Oh also am liking the BF comments as I'm wanting to but also want DH to be involved to so am thinking of expressing/pumping (whatever the correct term is) but don't really know much about that and Internet confusing me as so many different things etc. anyone got any advice on that side of things?

Chookford · 27/01/2015 21:00

bean sorry to hear you have had a crappy afternoon with firing and pooing... Hope tomorrow is a better day!!

shinyhappyone · 27/01/2015 21:05

Ellstor- I'm having some chest tightenings, particularly when I'm relaxing in the evenings. If I breathe in hard I get a sharpish pain across my chest. I just feel a little breathless for a minute or 2. Is this similar to you?
I've developed a heart murmur with my pregnancy so am having some tests soon to make sure everything is ok. I'm hoping the tight chest isn't related and is just squished insides!
xx

ellstor · 27/01/2015 21:17

Yes very similar - it is like a dull weird ache. I don't feel Ill or anything and it soon passes but definitely a little strange and worrying.

My midwife only works on a Tuesday so I don't know who to call if ever worried,am hoping community midwives have her phone- in so stupid for leaving it til now to find out. I will ask her at my next appointment in 3 weeks! .

piglet81 · 27/01/2015 21:28

Does it say anything in your notes, ellstor? I think mine have a list of contacts for different stages of pregnancy in case I need to ring anyone.

applecore0317 · 27/01/2015 21:43

Yes think they have to be cooked first longest not the same just blended, hate prunes, but more bearable as a purée lol

Fingers crossed for good test results plinky

Got my next internal scan in the morning and having my waters checked for leakage, fingers crossed the leakage is just a lovely pregnancy thing and nothing to do with that

shinyhappyone · 27/01/2015 21:43

Mine does too ellstor. Also, the midwife team for my area have emergency contact numbers on their website. Try not to worry, I'm sure it's fine xx

longestlurkerever · 27/01/2015 21:55

Does anyone have a recommendation for maternity bras? I hate my m and s ones as they come up so high they poke out of the top of most clothes, but the h and m ones I have are too far the other way and my boobs keep popping out, though maybe they're just the wrong size.

smiley. I have a medela swing breast pump. It works ok but I have to say I only used it a handful of times as found it such a drag to pump and dd rejected bottles. My friend who pumped every feed borrowed a hospital grade one and I have another friend who swore by her hand pump. I agree it's confusing!

Turquoisetamborine · 27/01/2015 21:57

Bean hope they took the news not as bad as you expected. Sadly they must have been waiting for it being temps.

Can't contribute to the preparing your toddler talk as my son is 7! He has had his mammy and daddy to himself for a long time though so will be quite hard for him. I'm glad it's a boy though as he always wanted a brother and he's finally going to get one.

My bump looks very odd from lying down looking at it as I have a left sided unicornate uterus, it's all off to the left. How strange!

applecore0317 · 27/01/2015 23:10

longest I got my last ones from Debenhams, much better than the M&S ones

Fluffeh · 28/01/2015 07:02

Regarding breast pumps I think it's a personal preference thing also depends on how often and what you want to pump.
I have a medela freestyle which is a double but costs around £300 to buy. Was worth every penny for me as dd had feeding issues and I very much wanted to give her bm not formula. I can get around 5oz in ten minutes which was 2-3 feeds in the early days.
I have a manual single pump too which I found useless as it made my hand ache after 1 minute.
In the early days hand expression is quicker and easier as colostrum doesn't really make it to the bottles in a pump and will just lurk in the tubing.
If needed a hospital grade pump is amazing. I hired one for a month and it was just so amazing and fast.
One thing to think of though is the size of your nipples. While still in the hospital using their pump I was in agony as the shields were too small. Once I got a bigger set of shields it was much easier. Some people need smaller shields so it may be worth talking to the bfing helpers while still on postnatal and getting their recommendations based on your pumping needs.
Of course if bfing isn't going well formula is a great alternative.

Dd hasn't had a bf in three days I think we are finally done! 21 months and it feels sad but like a real achievement. I hope it goes this well with the new baby.

bradders85 · 28/01/2015 07:04

Hi Tori,
This is what I have been worrying about. I think the consensus was that none of us who responded were as yet in a set pattern - with periods of activity followed by quiet spells. If you feel a bit unsure or feel the movements are significantly different to normal then I would suggest calling your midwife or local pregnancy unit. They seem very understanding and reaponsive to concerns and better to check it out rather than sitting around worrying. Hopefully just as you go to pick up the phone, baby will decide its time for a massive kicking session though Smile

Justyouwaitandsee · 28/01/2015 08:54

Ps. I have noticed that when I am busy or moving round a lot baby seems to go very quiet. Maybe a good excuse to sit still and watch you favourite programme for an hour, read a book or just lie down and see if you notice anything?!

longestlurkerever · 28/01/2015 08:54

Tori I barely feel movements at night and mornings are pretty quiet too. Evening is when she has a party but it still varies day to day.
