Kyz glad you are feeling a bit better. I think we are all a bit overwhelmed with having to have everything sorted before baby comes and the lack of sleep.
I've just woken at 6am but I've slept from 11 so that's not too bad. My whooping cough vac arm is absolutely aching. Hope this doesn't last too long. I haven't taken a single tablet the whole pregnancy so I didn't really want to start now.
Taking DS for a day out with his friend today so I'd better wake up and make the picnic.

shinyhappyone · 20/02/2015 06:28

If people could say that the whooping cough jab is all unicorns and rainbows, that would be great! I am very happy in my place of denial and ignorance! Hehe.
So happy you're feeling better kyz. The overwhelming feeling comes out of nowhere doesn't it? I have days where in happy as larry and can cope with anything and then days where it all just seems far too hard! xx

Fluffeh · 20/02/2015 06:34

Glad your feeling better kyz.
I am also constantly exhausted. I sleep badly anyway and I'm always awake by 4.30am no matter how late I go to bed. I usually fall asleep around 10 but wriggle around most of the night and get so stuffy in my nose that I spend ages just trying to breathe.
I can't remember who said it but I agree that although sleep isn't in big chunks, the quality is much better once baby is here.
Also prepare to relax your housework standards and meal standards now and you will get much more sleep. It only needs to be for a couple of months because by then our babies should nap in patterns during the day so we can plan ahead for cleaning/cooking and sleeping.
My growth scan went really well. He's just below the 20th centile so not giant in the slightest, I'm just a fat arse haha.
All being well if he continues where he is and the scan is right, he should be just under 7lb at term so I do need to buy smaller clothes than I've bought already x

applecore0317 · 20/02/2015 06:44

Great news Fluffeh

I also wake up at 4.30am every day, occasionally I go straight back to.sleep like today :)

Whooping cough jab sounds unpleasant.. have got mine in a week and a half I think, depends when I get the appointment, hoping it will feel like being cuddled by kittens compared to the steroid injections

piglet81 · 20/02/2015 08:05

I had my whooping cough jab on Monday and have had a bit of a sore arm, but nothing awful Smile Also have a lovely big bruise on the inside of that arm from blood tests the same day - I always bruise easily!

Happy Friday to all. Hope things get easier for those of you having a hard time... I got myself a long narrow pillow (says it can be used as a feeding support etc later on, so I decided it was worth buying even though DH thinks I'm a loon!) and am finding that helpful. Baby kicking really vigorously these days, and I managed to video my belly rippling, which amused us no end! So thanks to whoever mentioned they'd done that and gave me the idea Smile

Chookford · 20/02/2015 09:19

fluff congrats on the non giant baby!! It's always good to hear..

Hope everyone suffering is feeling a little better today, happy Friday! Last day of Half term yippee!!

SmileyScooby · 20/02/2015 09:42

Morning all,
I've got my whooping cough vac in 3 weeks and will be going straight to work afterwards so am pleased to hear that no major side effects etc.

Didn't have great sleep last night, kept waking up with aching hips, turn to face other way and DH is snoring/heavy breathing in my face...so turn back other way and try and grin and bear it! Think I may need to get a white noise app or something as at 3:45am this morning I couldn't get back to sleep for ages, kept focusing on DH snoring!

Fluffeh glad to hear he's not a sumo wrestler! On my notes head and tummy are 94th percentile and est weight is 87 percentile with him at 3lbs roughly...eek! how did you work out roughly what baby would be at term? I'm worried that I'm cooking a biggun and its my first but doctors not worried etc!

SmileyScooby · 20/02/2015 10:00

Ok now I'm confused...just found an ultrasound scan percentiles calculator ( www.babymed.com/tools/ultrasound-estimated-fetal-weight-calculator ) and it says that head and tummy measurements are 88th percentile, and est weight is 62nd percentile....which do I trust scan notes or the website? Sorry ladies I'm being a worry wart!!

applecore0317 · 20/02/2015 10:29

I think I would always trust what the hospital says smiley

you shoukd also have a personalised chartin your notes which has three lines of growth on it based on your first scan, if you follow the line for where you are currently sat to the 40 week mark it gives an estimated weight it grams

longestlurkerever · 20/02/2015 10:45

The percentiles are of the normal ranges though - even 100th percentile is not exceptionally large. And a high birth weight is generally a good health indicator as long as it's not a result of diabetes. Dd was 8lb 9oz and I was pleased because she felt a bit more solid and robust than some newborns. With me being a clumsy so-and-so I appreciated that! I really think difficult births are more to do with position than size. Their heads are still the biggest bit after all.

I empathise with the money concerns. Trying to get a few jobs done round the house before the baby arrives and they are all costing more than anticipated. Particularly new internal doors - I remember now why I have been living with the hideous hmp fire doors for so long - they're all different non-standard shapes and sizes but bespoke carpentry is a fortune!

Bazza2 · 20/02/2015 12:27

We live in the smallest and wonkiest house you can imagine and we had to get all the cupboards made and fitted for us. It's a 300 year old stone cottage though so to be expected. It was well worth it though.

longestlurkerever · 20/02/2015 12:56

That sounds cute bazza. Ours is a run of the mill Victorian terrace but it seemed they didn't think to make things standard sizes in those days. Have found a slightly cheaper company who can make them of reclaimed wood but it's still going to be nearly 3 grand! Scary right before mat leave, but if I cop out it'll be another 3 years till I get round to doing all the measuring again.

We are also going halves with next door to get some land adjacent to our houses cleared and fenced. Agreed to it ages ago but they have just started work the day I have just agreed to various other jobs that need paying for! Still, will be nice to get it sorted - is going to be a cool communal play area with woodland trails and dens.

leanne963 · 20/02/2015 15:23

Aww smiley I feel for you! I have a white noise machine and have it on rain cause DP breathes so loud!!!!! I have also been sleeping rubbish, waking up every night at exactly 3 am. Aching hips, restless legs......so annoying!

TwinkleTee · 20/02/2015 15:25

Hello May ladies

Thought I would share an interesting link from the NHS choices website. I had been really worried that I kept waking up on my back or right hand side in the middle of the night due to the received wisdom about sleeping on your left.

It seems like the study that made the headlines about the link between stillbirth and maternal sleeping may have had some significant methodological errors.... reading the research definitely helped me to feel less stressed, hope it does for you too!

www.nhs.uk/news/2011/06June/Pages/mothers-sleeping-position-and-risk-of-stillbirth.aspx

gingerfluffball · 20/02/2015 18:26

Really interesting Twinkle, thanks for sharing. It is interesting to dig behind the advice sometimes as occasionally the research is not brilliant quality. Good to be armed with knowledge! I'm going to be feeling a lot better about sleeping on either side now.

leanne963 · 20/02/2015 18:47

Thank you for the link Twinkle I always worry about this as i wake up on my back alot!!
I think it is difficult to pin point the reason for still born on one factor such as 'sleeping on your back or right side' do they look at any underlying conditions, or whether they drank alcohol or smoked in pregnancy, or their levels of stress or whether they got exercise or not!? It seems hard to blame just one factor. They also point out in the article that there is a higher rate of stillbirth in women who nap during the day in late pregnancy!!! Why?? I love a good nap lol

cuphat · 20/02/2015 20:28

Thanks for the link twinkle. I can't stay on my left side no matter how much I try. I do worry about sleeping on my back as I have an anterior placenta and worry about it squashing baby! I had to spend half an hour flat on my back at the orthodontist today which I worried about. It also mentioned that not getting up in the night to go to the loo or getting up once led to an increased risk - I never get up!

Kyz · 20/02/2015 21:40

Evening everyone :) Happy Friday!

I don't mean to sound awful but i'm glad i'm not the only one feeling a bit overwhelmed! It does help to know others are feeling the same, like with all of the sickness and symptoms, it sometimes helps, iyswim?

fluffeh I remember from when I had ds, the last few weeks of pregnancy were awful for sleep and I think I felt as though the first 3 months of his life any sleep I did have were catching up on the sleep I didn't have when heavily pregnant! It's such hard work getting comfy! Thankyou for the tip on relaxing things for the first few months - I didn't do this with DS, was very uptight about everything and I exhausted myself. I took the notion of 'you do not sleep in the day' and therefore missed out on many hours of sleep, I think, as I felt I really had to keep things in order and keep on top of everything. Obviously this time I have ds, who will be 2.5 when LO is born, so sleeping in the day won't be so much of an option, but if anyone offers to take him out, I will try to say yes and take the opportunity to sleep, instead of either saying yes and cleaning like a mad woman, or saying no because I don't want to put on anyone (is a typical thing I do, I feel guilty if I don't have him and i'm just doing something like catching up on sleep). Sorry you've also felt exhausted - i wake up at about 3am when dp comes home, then finally doze off at about 6 when my stupid alarm goes off anyway!! Yay for the good growth scan :) fab stuff!

I haven't discussed the whooping cough vaccine yet with my midwife, will discuss it at my appt early march, though :)

Thankyou for the link twinkle, I sleep kind of on my side, but with my leg thrown over and sort of on my front, if that makes sense? I just struggle to stay on the one side. I do always try to sleep on my left but am trying not to fret if I don't :)

Hope you all have a good weekend :) I am rarely on over the weekend, so if I don't see you before, i'll be back next week :)

Sorry to those feeling down. I have felt strangely tearful this week too, and tireder.

Those with older dcs, will you have childcare while on mat leave? One bonus of dc2 taking longer than planned is that dd has her free 15 hours at nursery, which she loves, plus she goes to outdoor nursery once a week which I will continue. Both of these stop in the Summer though. There is a reasonably priced holiday club she has been going to and enjoying this week so thinking of sending her to that a couple of days a week until she starts school in September but don't want her to feel pushed out. Going from full time at home to full time school might be too big a jump for her though.

KittyVonCatsington · 21/02/2015 06:58

Morning ladies-hooray for Saturday!! Boo to uncomfortable sleeping, so have decamped to sitting in my new nursing chair for the past hour!

Only roughly 10 more weeks of this Wink

SmileyScooby · 21/02/2015 08:20

Morning, I too slept rubbishly and have been awake since 6am. Oh well I suppose ought to get used to this I guess!! Thanks for the reassurance re the percentiles! I just am getting so confused by everything.
I haven't completed barely anything on my half term to do list which is annoying (some was housey stuff too) but gonna do a bit of worky stuff today and maybe I will get in the flow and get lots done?!

Hope everyone has a good weekend whatever you have got planned :)

cuphat · 21/02/2015 08:30

DD is only 20 months and I'm on an official career break for five years so will have no childcare. Should be interesting! Time is going too fast for my liking; I want to spend as much quality time with her as I can before baby is born.

leanne963 · 21/02/2015 09:27

Happy Saturday everyone! I slept much better last night had a nice hot bath and took a pregnancy vitamin with iron in and my legs didn't get too restless! Yay!

cuphat that's a great idea! I don't want to blink and suddenly the next 3 years have gone by I need to fill out a huge maternity allowance form as my midwife gave me my mat b1 form even though I didn't think I needed one. So of I can get MA that would really take the initial financial strain off!

Scottishgal78 · 21/02/2015 12:01

Happy Saturday! Was up early to go clothes shopping. Definitely needing to move to bigger sizes now! Two hours walking round a mall and my lower back is done though! Heading home for some lunch and a lazy afternoon!
