I started a baby girl name thread earlier and its upto almost 250 replies!
Some beautiful names being suggested if anyone (like me) is struggling.
Finally gave dh my dream baby girl name list. We only agreed on 3 and those although nice don't feel right for my dd. (I know that makes no sense as it was my list but i hope u know what i mean)
My top name has been completely disregarded and dh won't even entertain it.
So back to the drawing board, need some fresh ideas, hence my post on the name thread.

You can get lanisol for free from pharmacy first year after having baby (in Scotland at least - don't know what England like) and I recommend getting nonspecific nursing bras (unwired), an old t-shirt, some clips and a needle and thread and making your own. Far cheaper - and more choice so more likely to be comfy for you - rather than buying several £25 nursing bras everytime your boobs change size. Bfing- really is the money saving option. :) on that note - lenny lamb bamboo reusable breastpads are the bomb- just chuck em in the wash.

AnythingNotEverything · 28/01/2015 07:33

YY to bra conversion! Even for the larger chested ladies. I shrunk back through my pregnancy sizes and just converted them as I went. Best to get a soft cup for the first month or so, but after that, just convert wired bras. If I can do it, anyone can do it.

Although Mummymog - I expect I've spent more on cake through bf than I would've done on formula!

ChatEnOeuf · 28/01/2015 08:20

From our (admittedly small) NCT sample, everyone ate the same cake, the FFs just felt more guilty about it Grin

I expressed regularly - initially as when milk arrived my boobs were so full that DD couldn't latch at all, so needed to lose some before she could get her mouth open wide enough Shock. Then once she was 5m I expressed to make her porridge, pasta sauces etc. and then for when I went back to work (though she never seemed to want much milk unless me and my boobs were there!). She then used up the rest of the freezer supply having her evening feed when I was working. Used a Medela Swing, which was great. Couldn't hand express much, and when it did come it squirted out at all angles, so there was always more on me than in the pot!

Newgirl33 · 28/01/2015 08:58

I have my 20 week appointment this evening - nervous and excited at the same time. Hope to report back with good news! :)

I've been woken up in the middle of the night with pains in my leftside a few times this week. Does anyone else get this?

Phryn · 28/01/2015 09:42

Glad to hear the girls are catching up on the scans - and good luck to those still waiting or for second scans to complete the measurements.

Sorry to hear about your dog Tranquillity and glad to hear he's getting better. Even if they don't put the dogs down the owners deserve to be prosecuted and it might make them think twice before allowing their dogs easy access off their property if they are going to be so aggressive. Sadly it might also build up a picture that means that if another incident happens the police have the evidence of history they need to do something about the dogs.

Lastly I had a lovely moment this morning. Gave DH a hug before getting up this morning and as he put his hand on the bump he felt the baby kick for the first time. He was so chuffed it was lovely and I'm still smiling about it. Although I'm now getting tears in my eyes thinking what a great Dad he's going to be so I should probably stop thinking about it (Bloomin' hormones!) Wink

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 28/01/2015 09:50

Morning all. I am feeling sorry for myself as just arrived at work and just feeling really crap. Didn't sleep well and everything aches - my hips and back especially. Feels like that ache in your bones when you're coming down with flu (although am all jabbed up!!) so I don't know if I've got a bug or if it's just pg related aching. Bump is sore too Hmm

Am not due in work til 1 but feeling guilty as my class had an assembly this morning and morally I feel I should have been there - but I can't be there and getting dd to cm at the same time! I'm fed up with feeling guilty!! I just feel like everywhere I look there's more stuff that ought to be done and I haven't got time for, when what I really really want is a duvet day! (And I never, EVER have duvet days so actually I think I am just confirming to myself how crap I feel.... Which doesn't help anyone!!! Grin)

Rant over!!

speedbird17 · 28/01/2015 10:19

Chat I ended up FF DD for various reasons and I certainly didn't feel any more guilty about eating cake with my coffee!!!

Chookford · 28/01/2015 12:16

Afternoon ladies. Loving all the talk on baths and breast pumps. I've made a few very interesting notes to look into certain ones in more detail after our scan.

I'm gearing myself up for HR later. I believe that I'm being treated unfairly in financial terms at work in my new role since being grounded so should be a fun conversation! I had my official letter through from work yesterday saying that my SMP will be based on my basic pay during my final 12 weeks at work. Firstly, I know that I'm entitled to ANYTHING in my payslip that is subject to NI deductions, so that's bullsh*t. Also, I'd like it to actually work to my advantage that when they do eventually come around to my way of thinking on my SMP payments, can they actually base it on those 12 weeks or does it have to be the period of your qualifying week? I would actually work out financially better off if they did base it on my final 12 weeks as my daily office rate would be doubled from £14 to £28 by then (yes I'm really being paid £14 for coming to work at the moment). Also, I'm due a bonus at the end of April which they would be forced to include.

One more thing - my daily office rate is supposedly based on average winter and summer flight payments of all of the cabin crew. This is inclusive of sickness and leave already taken into account. However, I have been told that if I'm sick or take my annual leave, I won't get paid my daily rate. Is this another thing I can "do" them for?

Sorry for the moan but I feel like they are taking the piss somewhat!

cuphat · 28/01/2015 13:18

Glad the scan went well sunbathing. Did you ask about your back pain?

I can't remember what weeks my pay was based on but it worked in my favour as I was forced into a promotion during my pregnancy (yes forced, I turned it down numerous times but they made me do it - just what I needed when pregnant and trying to decreased my stress levels!) and I got increased pay during maternity leave too. And my work already offers full pay for 6 months (then stat pay for a further 3 months) which is already generous enough!

speedbird17 · 28/01/2015 13:22

Orville, I am crew too, and my 90% is calculated on my whole payslip for the 12 weeks they use.

I think our companies pay grounded crew slightly differently but I agree it's not much and does disadvantage us a bit. I am going through a grievance with HR at the moment, but due to provision of Childcare vouchers during maternity leave.

I hope you can sort it all out and I really hope in a way that benefits you - I certainly feel a bit hard done by the way that these things work for us!

Pas - hope your aches and pains subside and that they are pg related and not the start of the 'flu.

Those suffering with Thrush I am also afflicted and I had forgotten how horrid it is!! Definitely going to be getting pessary/cream duo the minute I can get to a pharmacy!

Good luck those with scans! Can you believe we're nearly all half way through?! I bet spring will whizz by this year :)

Have just realised I need a certificate to fly next week (as I am travelling on a staff ticket) is it MW or GP who do them? All I need is a note saying I am 24 weeks and healthy to fly... Feel like I should know!

ClearlyOpaque · 28/01/2015 13:24

pas I also feel achey and like I'm coming down with a bug. I'm used to it as I've had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in my past, but it's a bit of a shock after sailing through pregnancy so far (as in I've not had any colds or bugs). I desperately want to spend the day in bed, but work and wedding planning conspire against me.

I'm putting it down to pregnancy aches and pains..... something else to add the list of joyful things about being pregnant!

ChatEnOeuf · 28/01/2015 13:25

Ha, Speed and so it should be! Think I was friends with some crazy dieters... Hmm

Orville I don't know the ins and outs - your union may if you have one? I got my basic plus banding (an extra 40% on top) as that's what I was earning through pregnancy, however if I did any extra shifts as locum during the qualifying period, they weren't counted (otherwise I would have been laughing, they were always short!)

Lovely news Sunbathing and Phryn. Pas don't feel guilty - DD's class teacher missed the first two hours of the first day of term because her own DD wasn't settling on her first day at school. It's real life and all mums should understand :)

jazzyjenbo · 28/01/2015 14:02

Newgirl - yes i get these pains, i wake feeling a stabbing in my left of right side and generally need to get up to relieve the pain. I disnt have this in my other pregnancies. The closest pain was some of the early contractions when i went into labour so i'm thinking they maybe BH.
Good luck with todays scans and glad your rescan went smoothly sun x

Chookford · 28/01/2015 14:49

sun hurrah for good rescan news, congrats!

Bazza2 · 28/01/2015 16:01

Ooh thanks for the reminder speedbird and orville, I am flying Edinburgh to Heathrow when I will be 28 weeks, will I need a note too?

katbags · 28/01/2015 16:06

Hi everyone

We are team pink! Lovely baby girl was nice and active but we managed to get all the checks done and she looks fab.

She did a massive yawn on cue so we have one pic of her looking almost raptor-like Blush. Bless!

Anterior placenta here which explains me not feeling much I guess. Though judging by how much she was kicking around and bunting her head in the bladder direction I'm going to relish the days I have left until I feel properly pummelled!

Congrats to other scanees - and best of luck to those yet to have theirs.

Tranquilitybaby · 28/01/2015 16:23

Aww such lovely news! Congrats.
Move got my scan next Wednesday and I'm starting to feel nervous again for some reason! Doesn't bode well when I have to have scans at 28,32 and 36 weeks as well!

Orville82 · 28/01/2015 16:30

Just checked our manuals. Obviously this differs from airline to airline but we require a doctors' letter after the end of the 28th week of pregnancy confirming the EDD and the health of the mother. It specifically says "doctor" though so better to play it safe with that one.

Speedbird I should have guessed you were Crew. I bet I could guess the airline too!

Bazza, even if you're just before the end of your 28th week, always better to carry a note as some check in staff in particular can be awkward!

Thanks for the advice regarding maternity allowance. Have made a start today in making sure I get my loyalty added to my leave now I've been converted to office hours. Bad I had to remind them really! Oh well! Baby steps!

mummymog · 28/01/2015 17:32

Went to Doctor- about my bum. she's lovely but not the best doctorwise. She's said some daft stuff in the past - still she'll prescribe anything you ask for so I got myself a mini Home pharmacy. :) bought myself a shorty baby wrap to wrap my bump up in/ wear as a scarf- that cheered me up a bit. Anyone else into babywearing? I can't imagine how we'd have got this far with dd without it. I'm happy to enthuse about the subject if anyone is curious - not like bjorns etc- I dont know anything about those but I've heard that get uncomfy when they get bigger , I'm talking more like Big pieces of material or carriers that are like they're in a piggy back. Still carrying 16 month on my back past my huge twin bump :)
