Oh and the important thing is to make sure that their feet are right at the bottom of the basket or crib.

AnythingNotEverything · 12/02/2015 09:59

Cellular blankets are best for the reasons mentioned below. Each fold is another layer, so just once over baby and tucked under the mattress on all sides is best, with baby feet to foot. The Lullaby trust has good advice on layers and temperatures. A good room thermometer is the Gro Egg, but there are much cheaper ones available!

When I left hospital with DD in Oct 2013 advice was that swaddling is no longer recommended due to the risk of overheating. That said, lots of people do it because the straitjacket effect helps baby feels secure. Both my babies slept with their hands by their ears so swaddling was no good for us. DD always liked to have her feet covered - you get to know your baby's little ways.

Do remember we're having summer babies! We won't struggle to keep them warm.

I think grobags start from 10lb, but you have to be sure their head is too big to wriggle into the bag. After that they're amazing. We're moving DD I to the 18 month+ ones in the next few months. Couldn't do without them now and they're a great sleep cue too.

Yeah my DS slept with his arms/hands by his ears too! He also used to wriggle so his face was pressed up against the side of the moses basket. So cute.

kaybug · 12/02/2015 11:15

pregnantandengaged, you've got me worried now! I've got a sleepbag that is recommended by the lullaby trust (cot death charity) thought it would be a safe option? Is there evidence that they aren't safe? If so I need to rethink things! Confused

Chookford · 12/02/2015 11:46

I had cellular blankets with my dd until she went in a sleep bag, she was born beginning of June so same time of year and that was fine by the time the weather changed to require more layering etc she was 6months so much easier to do!! As others have said as long as baby is feet to foot and not covering their face they will be fine..

pas giving birth to a hairbrush is brilliant! Grin.

tori dreams are mad when your pg aren't they! I have dreamt I was being chased by a polar bear who wanted to eat me .. That was pretty scary!!

Good luck today jackie and anyone else having scans!

croon979 · 12/02/2015 14:32

Hello all. Hope everyone is good and good luck to those with scans today.

So, little update, have been to see midwife for routine appointment today. She has given me much more info about my placenta issues. Basically, I had self-diagnosed Grade II previa from my notes which say "extending to cervix". However, midwife had access to my more detailed notes and said it clearly states in those that the placenta is partially covering my cervix at the moment, so I am actually Grade III :(.

It does explain a bit more about why I have been told no sex, exercise etc now...

Still obviously nothing I can do but wait and see. However, obviously the higher the grade the more chance of a bleed and premature delivery and less chance of moving sufficiently. Sigh.....

Tryingreallyhard84 · 12/02/2015 14:37

Oh croon - never what you want to hear! At least they know about it and can keep an eye on you.

croon979 · 12/02/2015 15:13

Thanks Trying, yes that's true, at least it has been spotted and will be monitored. Just got to try not to stress, easier said than done!

croon sorry to hear that, but glad you are being looked after....

iwantkhaleesiseyebrows · 12/02/2015 16:08

Croon I understand how you feel as I'm in exactly the same boat (think there are a few other June ladies too). Try to think positive as it still may move. I know it's hard- part of me feels like I'm a walking time bomb.

Jackiebrambles · 12/02/2015 16:53

Sorry to hear that Croon. The good thing is they are monitoring it and a lot of them DO move. They know what they are doing and will look after you x

Jackiebrambles · 12/02/2015 16:55

Well I'm back from my scan - all is well and my low anterior placenta has moved so it is now high! I've got to go to placenta clinic for a follow up scan to check next week but hopefully that's just routine.

And DH and I decided in the waiting room to find out the gender........

........and its a GIRL!! We can't believe it. We have DS so far so we'll have one of each! Not sure its sunk in yet but I'm really excited!

Haven't told anyone yet though, except you lot! Grin.

sorry to hear that Croon, hope they are looking after you well! Thanks

Congratulations Jackie on ur good news!Grin

Tranquilitybaby · 12/02/2015 17:24

Ah croon hope you're ok but at least you know now. Fingers crossed it moves.

pregnant the original grobags are suitable from birth (well 8lbs something) and are completely safe. They're endorsed by the SIDS foundation.

Jackie Aww how lovely. Congrats! X

cuphat · 12/02/2015 17:43

Fingers crossed it moves croon.

Congrats Jackie! Glad all is well and your placenta has moved.

We have the original grobags but they must either all vary slightly or maybe they've changed them since I had DD as she was 9lb10 and that wasn't quite heavy enough to go in to one at the time (plus she lost weight in the first week). Though she had a massive head which is where most of the weight was so probably would have been ok in one earlier. The website now states a general 8lb 8oz and babies often lose weight early on so it's probably best to have cellular blankets there in case. They are very safe once baby has reached the recommended weight. DD is still in one now at 20 months.

AnythingNotEverything · 12/02/2015 17:51

Ooh interesting re: grobags will check ours when I do the big baby clothes wash. I was sure they were 10lb+.

cuphat · 12/02/2015 17:55

I think ours were too, anything. But they do different styles.

Chookford · 12/02/2015 17:59
