Hi everyone,

How are all the JuneBugs doing?

I've had our 20wk scan. All ok except anterior placenta so back at 34wks for a scan.

Tryingreallyhard84 · 31/01/2015 07:54

Lovely scan news. Grin Grin

Pregnant - my midwife is giving me my matb1 at my next appt which is at 23 weeks I think. some of the ladies yesterday were saying they rang their mw who left it at reception at the docs to pick up. I suppose it depends if you have an appt before 25 weeks. My work needs it by 25 weeks as well or "as soon as reasonably practical" if not. Can't wait to know when I'll be able to go. Although I have a fair idea already.

I've got a terrible build up of catarrh in my throat (tasty) which is making swallowing hard and giving me a headache. Think it's a cold that won't quite come out.

bingo congrats on good scan news!

pregnant congrats on your little boy, lovely news! With ref to MatB1 I'm not seeing my midwife until next week at 25wks so I asked her to send it to my home address so I could hand it in which she did no hassle was just easier for me that way, as others have said if your seeing midwife before 25wks you will get in then so will be fine to hand it in within timescales. I can leave from April 2nd which includes annual leave before Mat leave... This is all getting very real!

tori congrats, enjoy your IKEA trip!!!

trying sorry to hear you are suffering, hope it eases off soon!

buba glad you had a lovely break!

Newgirl33 · 31/01/2015 10:52

I won't be seeing my midwife until week 25 so may call her to request the Matb1.

I'm planning on taking 4 weeks holiday and then starting mat leave from my due date. So I'll be leaving work at 36 weeks. For those who work, what are your plans? Not sure if I'll get bored especially if the baby is born later.

Luckily I have had no health issues. My hairdresser said she wouldn't have even noticed I was pregnant if I hadn't said!

Have a lovely weekend everyone :)

jazzyjenbo · 31/01/2015 10:53

Yay tori congrats.

I txt my MW after 20 week scan and she left matb1 at reception at the childrens centre i see her at. (Dont actually need it myself until 26 weeks to claim mat allowence but dh has handed a copy into work for pat leave)

I'm off to ikea myself tomorrow to buy dd a new bed so baby can hav the cotbed. Want to get it sorted now whilst i can still face walking the miles round ikea!

newgirl I think we all have wildly different mat leave plans - money, amount of holidays, type of work environment/employement all being a factor. Some lucky people are off for at least 2 months beforehand! And some pretty close to the due date - 1 or 2 weeks? can't remember. I think 4 weeks for me - I will be annoyed if baby is late and makes that longer but I don't really want it to be less, my parents are coming for a couple of weeks 2 weeks after due date and my sister (who will be staying with us, parents won't) and I want to feel calm and organised and it's first baby, plus my work can be fairly high pressure, work late and weekends a given (plus looking forward to a day or so doing nothing on my own!) If I am on a great project and doing well I would be tempted to keep going for another week I guess.
That is a very good point about walking miles around Ikea - we get our new place next week and will be going as soon as we have measured up... I'm so excited to be able to drive there though as DH is picking our car up this morning! We still don't have lots of furniture - I want a nice table and chairs, but fell completely in love with a table a few weeks ago and it was sold when I asked (60's danish table) so now I think I might just get an interim super cheap table and wait /look for dream table #2. Furniture for us is rather distracting me from practical things for baby!

I Was planning on handing in my form just after I see my midwife at 25 weeks, is that normal? Maternity leave is all new to me, with DD I was a final year undergrad.

I'm not really sure about mat leave yet, but I think I'll go at 37 weeks which is actually half term, but I'm hoping that the mat leave won't kick in until the week after. A friend of mine did something similar with the Christmas holidays. DD was 2 weeks late and I'm tempted to work up until my due date, or finish at 39 weeks, but I will probably feel very different by then! I'm SO looking forward to being at home, doing the school run without needing breakfast club/after school club. It hasn't really occurred to me yet that I'll have a newborn at the same time. But at least this time I won't be typing essays/dissertation on my laptop with a baby on my boob. I'm going to make a reading list soon for mat leave/baby feeding times. Sad but I'm really excited about that!

jazzyjenbo · 31/01/2015 11:19

I am working with 1 of my minded kids until the day i drop! My mat allowence will kick in at the beginning of may hopefully. Back working in mid sept. I cant afford to be off any longer. The joys of being self employed! But luckily my day revolves around the kids.

And sunbathing Ive reached a point this week where I can't get away with lots of clothes anymore! Gave in and bought maternity tights yesterday - they're so comfortable! Also bought a mothercare dress without trying it on - it looks awful so will be going back asap.

Couldn't resist buying some jojomamanbebe sleepsuits yesterday, id forgotten just how exciting it is buying tiny clothes. Eeek!

JennyOfOldstones · 31/01/2015 11:35

I am planning to go off at half term (DP is a teacher) which will be 38/39 weeks. Assuming no problems of course! I can work from home in the last few weeks if I am finding it tough although I only have a half hour drive to work. Saving my holiday to take in December then back to work in January.

PregnantAndEngaged · 31/01/2015 11:36

I can feel the baby properly kicking now :) Started feeling movement properly the last few days. Then this morning me and my fiance felt him kick from the outside, lovely moment! :)

Only downside is that he also keeps kicking me in the cervix! Sometimes it makes me suddenly need a pee. Scared he will make me wee myself Blush

PregnantAndEngaged · 31/01/2015 11:38

Thanks for the replies on the MatB1, I will phone up and ask :)

newbie6 · 31/01/2015 11:41

Am so jealous of all of you getting mat leave Envy no idea what I will do, never took any with DS and think I might go insane trying to work from home with a newborn and a toddler! Granted, at least I don't have anyone to answer to.....well apart from HMRC Wink just wish my hubbie was the main earner and I could retire, ah well maybe I will win the lottery one day and never need to work again and fill my days playing with my kids and going to toddler groups, hee hee!
My diabetes is playing up also, always does around this stage! My blood sugars are all over the place and I've no idea why! Panicking that it will be harming the baby....hate being type 1 diabetic and pregnant, annoyingly I still get cravings for sugary stuff and I can't eat it ?? will all be worth it though. Lovely to hear about everyone else and bubalou, glad centreparcs was good! Xx

newbie6 · 31/01/2015 15:22

Ouch! Sounds sore Jenny, would a bath help at all? Hope it eases up soon for you

I'm aiming for 8th May for my mat leave, which is a calendar month before my EDD. Given how I've felt this week I'll be more than ready! Am a teacher so no holiday to stack up beforehand, although I will have two weeks at Easter so can't complain.

Deutschy, last time I took my mat leave after half term and just informed hr I'd be taking it from xxth May, which was the Monday the children went back.

AnythingNotEverything · 31/01/2015 17:14

Imagining to finish at 34 weeks, but mainly because since returning to work after my last mat leave, my job doesn't really exist (I haven't been pushed out - the organisation has been privatised and we're waiting to be taken over :-/), so I'm commuting an hour each way to do very little. I also want some quality time with DD and time to get things sorted. Hoping to finish by15th May, and I don't think I'll be going back afterwards so don't need to worry about using up mat leave before baby comes.

I had 14 months off for DD, going back to work when she was almost 13 months. I feel really lucky to have had so long off as it was lovely.

Can anyone recommend any maternity leggings? All mine are sort of Capri pant length which was fine with a summer pregnancy! I'm tall and need them to at least go under my calf height boots. Need a good thickness too. Could do with black and navy or indigo jeggings.

kaybug · 31/01/2015 17:34

next do good maternity leggings, good thickness and long length x

Orville82 · 31/01/2015 17:38

Welcome kaybug. This is my first too but due right at the end of June so not massive yet, but my tummy is causing great amusement amongst my work colleagues as I'm normally fairly slim!

Anything H&M do really decent maternity leggings in a good length. I'm 5ft 8in and I can wear them with pumps without exposing ankle. They are also decent thickness but not tonnes of room for growing bump. At the other end if the spectrum, George at Asda have some excellent ones in navy & black. Good quality, nice and long and MASSIVE bump space for those last few weeks. Not a hope in hell I could get away with wearing them yet. I would look insane!

As for maternity leave, I'm due on a Sunday and trying to decide whether to finish work on the Friday a week before or 2 weeks. I know it's not a major difference, but every penny helps!
