Just marking my place on the new thread. Is anyone else getting swollen hands/ fingers already? It's really uncomfortable!

Naturegirl82 · 25/01/2015 08:05

Back again. Had a busy few days with dd1's first birthday Friday and party yesterday. I'm knackered after all of that. Can't believe the year has gone so quick. Bit of a milestone as well as I stopped bf dd1 yesterday. Bit sad about it, probably not helped by all of the pregnancy hormones so ended up having a cry last night about it. Felt a bit silly as it's my decision I just didn't think it would be so sad when it came to it.

Naturedog knows I'm pg again. She has started sleeping curled up next to the bump again which she did in my first pg. Guessing she can probably hear the baby's hb.

bad what thesis are you working on?

Bit more of a quiet Sunday for us today. Church, food shopping, hopefully looking at some new kitchens then dd1's swimming later, and dinner at the in - laws.

broodylicious · 25/01/2015 08:49

Yes jen, I'm panicking about the 20 week scan! I've not had the all clear for downs yet either - need to have the quad bloods done a week on Tuesday - so getting a bit stressy. As I've mc before, I'm still worrying this won't turn out right either. I want time to speed up!

nature, that sounds like quite a busy day today as well! Hope you manage to get some chill out time somewhere. Do you think dd will ask for boob some point today? Good lck with that! And kitchens! Ah, we have just bought a new kitchen (still in boxes as we've not finished decorating). We've gone for schuller, a German made outfit. Flippin beautiful!

TouchPauseEngage · 25/01/2015 08:51

Oooh nature I'm convinced Touchdog knows too. He's been incredibly clingy since about 8 weeks. Usually he takes himself to bed in the evening but he's been sitting at my feet or climbing on to the armchair for a cuddle (given hes a collie/dalmatian cross in not sure how long we'll all fit Grin)

WantToGoingTo · 25/01/2015 09:17

ceejay and fleur when you book antenatal with nct they say on booking they will automatically send you booking info for postnatal. You aren't actually booked on it til you pay, thy just hold your place for 14 days. You can opt out of it - just don't complete booking with payment :) we opted in though as I am a ftm and so thought would be good to have a routine to get me out the house!

Anyone celebrate burns night? DH is a bagpiper so went to one with him lat night - he got paid and we got hotel dinner and drinks all free! Fab time though sad I missed out on real haggis :( had to have the veggy option due to liver content and vitamin a. Luckily we have one in the freezer from when we were in Scotland in the summer so saving for when lo is born Grin

Naturegirl82 · 25/01/2015 09:29

broody I'm hating looking for a kitchen. I'm just finding there are too many decisions to make, and then if I find one I like it's either not great quality or far too expensive! And I'm worried about choosing one and then it looks rubbish when it's fitted! We have one kitchen company drawing us up some plans which we will look at next weekend. His cabinets are lovely and all made bespoke which is good for all the odd nooks and crannies in this house so will see how he prices out. His estimate seemed ok but I don't have much to compare it to at the moment.

touch they can definitely tell. When I went into labour with dd1 Naturedog didn't leave my side. Where ever I went she followed.

Fleurchamp · 25/01/2015 09:35

Ah thanks want clearly didn't read it properly but November seems quite a long time to wait for post natal classes. Will see nearer the time if I want to go.

Naturegirl82 · 25/01/2015 09:39

broody we were just down to one night feed and it was more me offering than her asking so I think we should be ok. Sunday night bedtimes are always more of a rush because of dinner at inlaws so I think we will be able to avoid it tonight.

BadIdeaBear · 25/01/2015 10:21

I'm glad I don't have a dog, or I'd have to refer to it as BadDog on this thread!

I slept the sleep of the dead last night. Lovely DH let me have MASSIVE lap ib till 10am despite DSC being here - legend that he is.

nature I'm doing a doctorate in language education. I'm in a horrible spot - just starting Year 5 of a part-time PhD. I know it's a classic place to get into a big, black hole with it, but I've managed to do that and then combine it with pregnancy hormones and distractions, and it's turned into the thing that's pulling me down. My supervisor wants to see lots of my writing in next meeting in two weeks. Since we met in December I've written about 4500 words and chopped words for my methodology chapter, so it's all just s**t, basically... I'm clearly going to have to just cry in the meeting!

Number3cometome · 25/01/2015 10:49

Sophie yes nursery all sorted, it's attached to the same place my DD goes to breakfast and after school club, right next to the station. I know it gets booked up early so wanted it sorted. They've done me a really good deal as my OH is a teacher and has 13 weeks off a year so baby won't be going during that time. They won't charge me for those weeks but instead of me just not paying they've split the cost over the year so it works out much cheaper each month (if that makes sense!) I also get a 10% discount as DD is there. I have to be organised, it's like a military operation in my house in the mornings. I'm a morning person so I don't find it too tough.

misseskimo · 25/01/2015 11:21

Morning ladies! Checking in on new thread! 16+6 today and after a very long day shopping yesterday and then a very late (but great) evening seeing friends, today I ache and belly is uncomfortable/popping like crazy!

On a plus, after 3HRS in mothercare we finally got a pram! Ended up with a Graco Evo... Basically I'd seen a deal online last week for £250 for the pram and car seat and gone to get it, but they checked 4 stores for us within 25miles and no one had either bit in stock, not even display models... Nor did they know about the deal. So they rang HO who said the 2014 model was discontinued to make way for 2015 model coming out this spring. Hence the clear out deal. After much tooing and throwing, and us looking at other prams, the manager came over and offered to sell us their (only) 2014 ex display model for £224.49, plus they would order in the matching car seat from the 2015 catalogue (listed at £140!) and add it on for a penny!! So £224.50 for the complete travel system! Am very pleased! Grin

LaLa5 · 25/01/2015 12:53

Want we're Scottish so do burns night. Love veggie haggis!

Naturegirl82 · 25/01/2015 13:34

bad I can imagine that is tough. I was fortunate to do my PhD full time and that was hard as when my funding finished I ended up working full time and finishing writing up my thesis in the evenings and weekends. I can imagine it being even harder part time. It's easy to say but you just have to keep plugging away and not worry about the word count. My entire thesis was less than 20000 words (science) so 4500 sounds amazing to me.

So I managed to hit my bump pretty hard today. Stood on an up - turned plug in bare feet and fell sideways and rammed it straight into the handle bars of Dh's bike. Spoken to mw and looks like I'll need an extra anti-d injection tomorrow. How annoying.

Ceejay14 · 25/01/2015 13:51

Hi ladies
Hope you are all having a good Sunday. My hormones are playing havoc with me today. I've cried 3 times already for absolutely no reason. DH finds this hysterical Hmm. Hoping we don't make it to 4 times!

fattycow · 25/01/2015 13:58

I am so hungry today!

OP posts:
jmojo · 25/01/2015 14:25

Nature ouch that sounds incredibly sore! The bike not the anti-d (although I am sure that isn't very fun either!) Grin

16 wks, nausea and ptyalism almost gone, feeling a bit more like myself. Going to tackle the office, soon to be nursery today. SO much junk to clear out!!

broodylicious · 25/01/2015 15:04

Yes nature, it wasn't my favourite of tasks either (looking at kitchens). Have you come across Howdens in your search? They're bespoke and relatively decent quality. Our schuller kitchen is also bespoke - measured to the tiniest millimetre, three times over - but you have to buy through a dealer over here so not as quick. We think it'll be worth it hope so for the investment we've madeWink

BadIdeaBear · 25/01/2015 16:27

Oooh nature, that sounds nasty - hope you're not in too much pain anymore.

Thanks for your kind words on my bloody thesis! I've mainly been trying to make it look prettier for my meeting today so that they don't notice it's s*e but I imagine they're a little too clever to fall for that one!

Our kitchen is Howdens. I'd recommend you don't go for the bottom of the range - their mid- to top-range stuff looks excellent, but the builders who did up our house before we bought it chose the cheap end, which annoys me every day!

LaLa5 · 25/01/2015 16:57

I just tried out my new Doppler and I can hear my baby's heartbeat :)

TouchPauseEngage · 25/01/2015 17:02

I can second Howdens for kitchens. Negotiate hard though and never accept their first price. We went for the burford range which is Middle price band but very sturdy. It's important to be aware that if you get one from ikea/b&q you have to factor in extra labour for building it and returning any wrong /damaged parts (quite likely). With howdens the kitchens come assembled and they have local warehouses so can change things quicker.

I don't work for them honest Grin

Zampa · 25/01/2015 17:06

Kitchen wise, have a look at the Pineland website. I haven't used them (but might) and found them via a recommendation on Mumsnet. Old school, country cottage style.

Naturegirl82 · 25/01/2015 17:40

That's interesting about howdens it's on my list of places to look as there is one right by us but I'd read some negative reviews on the quality but I guess that was probably the cheaper range. Will have a look next weekend. Missed the other kitchen place today as we arrived as they were closing which was annoying.

The bump isn't too sore and thankfully I've not had any cramping or bleeding otherwise I would have to go to the hospital for a check up. Bit awkward trying to fit in a mw appointment tomorrow though as I have a really busy day at work.

broodylicious · 25/01/2015 17:54

Definitely avoid the Howdens cheap range - although I'm sure once you saw it, you could see the difference! I can't remember what we were looking at, it was a gloss one but we didn't like the colours as much as others we had seen and once we'd seen the schuller kitchen quality and colour (silver/blue) nothing else was ever going to stand a chance! Howdens is owned by the b&q boss btw. I think with all kitchens, a lot of the finished look depends on the quality of the workmanship of your carpenter/joiner.

I just ate chips and gravy for tea. Holy moly, it was divine!! Had a day at the folks and had lovely time apart from bloody nephew (3.5yrs) kicking off and crying for nearly an hour. He's adorable but honestly, when he's like that...AngryBlushConfused DD was hilarious and kept telling him "shush! Sssssh! My head hurts!" ??

jmojo · 25/01/2015 18:03

Broody I want gravy and chips now!! Might have to pop out....

SparklyPenguin · 25/01/2015 18:17

Rant coming......It's been a lovely weekend away for me, catching up with my dearest friends and family.....now being totally marred by the toffee-nosed twat family sitting across the train carriage from me (I can't move seats cos train is packed) LOUDLY and POSHLY holding forth with their hideous opinions "why would anyone Deliberately Inflict being an only child on their offspring?" " I think they tried for a second one" "well they didn't try hard enough". Etc etc. Such insensitivity! Ugh ugh ugh
