Gosh, that's a brutal cut of services sophie! That's really sad. They were so supportive to me and I met loads of friends through there, which was such a help when my NCT friends went back to work or I got bored of them!

WantToGoingTo · 24/01/2015 11:21

Ooo mrsryan that is such a pretty pram!

14+1 today. Feeling miserable as DH is doing lots of useful house stuff an the options for me are cleaning or digging the vg patch. So far started neither!

Zampa · 24/01/2015 11:24

This isn't the place for politics but ... the coalition government removed the ring fenced funding for Sure Start Centres. So under-funded councils, faced with having to make cuts, are reducing these centres. It's a real shame as I've heard so many positive things about them.

beakerandburette · 24/01/2015 11:25

Marking place. In a foul mood today. Overworked and under appreciated, may cave DPs head in. I'll be back tomorrow when I'm in a better mood!

naty1 · 24/01/2015 11:55

I also recommend the sure start centres. I had like a post natal course there: weaning, teething and 2 other things. I also did a first aid short course.
Thing is they ask for suggestions - like a walking group. But noone turned up mostly. Maybe as alternate weeks or because it started mid september.
Thry tried a nursery rhyme group but put it on at the se time as 1/3 other established groups so i dont expect many went plus you had to book.
The library near also do nursery rhyme time and story time. Though DD just wont sit still so i dont go to those.
small i personally wouldnt commit to that. Mainly due to the public transport and travel time. Might you also only have a 9w old if you go overdue?
If you switched to formula feeding by then i guess it could be a fair bit to take with you altogether - not sure though as i never FF.

Out of interest - those expecting twins are you quite tall, say over 5'5? As when i looked at the 'risk' of twins when putting 2 embryos back research suggested twins were more common with taller people.

Jenbird5891 · 24/01/2015 12:22

Lewany-yay more twins! Congrats. Has it started to sink in yet? I am also expecting twins, found out at 12 week scan (when I was actually 13+5) am now 16+2. It's quite a shock when they first tell you isn't it?!\ for me it was totally out of the blue and has only really sunk in the last few days. OUr hospital had a twins info evening last week which we went to and met some twin mums who have 4 year olds now and they seemed to have survived it! I;ve just been digesting info online and maybe too much as it's all a bit overwhelming/scary at the moment. Really want 20 week scan to be over as have started worrying all over again that there could be a problem!! have been looking at buggies. we like the donkey and it is a lot of money but trying to convince myself it's worth it, especially looking at resale values. Hope you're feeling ok anyway x

fattycow · 24/01/2015 12:36

broody, I'm good. I just have very little time for Mumsnet at the moment, so I pop in every few days to read what you've all been up to.

Marking my place.
Did a big shop this morning, said to OH we should start buying nappies / wipes / cotton wool etc each week so it doesn't build up cost at the end. I picked up a pack of nappies then put them back. Just can't stand the thought of cursing it!

Number3cometome · 24/01/2015 12:43

Oops 14+6

Number3cometome · 24/01/2015 12:45

Small - I'll be back at work by then with a 7am train to catch - If I can do it anyone can :)

SophieBarringtonWard · 24/01/2015 14:39

number you must be very organised! Have you got a nursery place lined up already then? I'm feeling daunted by the Sept school run with newborn, as DC1 moves from infants - opposite our house - to juniors, about 15 mins away. Then will have to get DC2 back down to infants for nursery school. Currently we leave at 8.50 but going to have to bring it forward somewhat!

JoY007 · 24/01/2015 14:43

Congrats Lewaney woo hoo very exciting.

Thanks for the new thread. Marking my place. Hope everyone is doing great today. X

broodylicious · 24/01/2015 16:02

We were going to start dd at preschool in September (like you sophie, it's a couple of minutes walk) but have decided to put it back until January now. As I'm a sahm, she's not gone to nursery as yet (we go to groups and she's v sociable so she's not being sheltered!) and I just think starting a new routine - albeit a few mornings a week - four or six weeks after her brother or sister is born would not be nice for her.

Those with dc already, have any of you used a poddle pod before? I've seen a few rave reviews and am quite tempted (not yet, after all clear from quad test and 20 week scan).

naty1 · 24/01/2015 16:05

DD starts her 15 free hrs in sept. So im already dreading getting her there with a 6w old.

Though we havent been offered the place yet. Theres one down the road or the other over 20-25min walk, each way.
I may decide to only do say 10-12hrs as that might be just 2 days as part days will be quite a hassle. Its the having to go out at set time despite bf or sleeping baby.

Though that may not be the issue as when dd went to the nursery at 1yo she really didnt get on with it so we took her out, not sure how she'll react at 3.3.

SophieBarringtonWard · 24/01/2015 16:31

DC1 started nursery school the week before DC2 was born (she was 3.3), it actually worked really well for us. Nursery was 2 mins away so didn't mind dashing out as it would only be for a moment, & she had an afternoon place so we had had time in the morning to sort ourselves out/go to Playgroup etc. I think it helped Dc1 actually because she was starting to have a sense of herself out of the family unit with her own separate life so felt less pushed out?! Dunno. I am glad DC2 will be off to nursery this time round as it worked well for us last time. Morning nursery place this time though as I have to be out anyway for DC1 school run!

Threeplus1 · 24/01/2015 17:20

I had dd2 in late October (2010) and had to be back on school run for DS and dd1 just two weeks later. It's really not that bad and forced me to be more organised and to get out of the house and be motivated for the day. But then I had a really straight forward birth and dd2 practically slept through the first 2 months of her life....

As long as your birth is straightforward, I really think it helps to have things that make you have to leave the house (after a couple of weeks of baby moon at least), as it's good for the body and soul. I find it all too easy to stay in and get cabin fever if I don't give myself things to do. I'm not talking about overdoing it or trying to accomplish huge things mind...

Fleurchamp · 24/01/2015 17:37

Found you all!

NCT are a bit crafty. I enquired about the signature ante natal classes and received bookings for both the ante natal and post natal classes. No wonder it was so much money!!! I have sorted it now and am just going to the ante natal one as the post natal isn't until November - surely I will be an expert by then! Wink

Ceejay14 · 24/01/2015 17:39

Oh, that's why they sent me bookings for class after the baby is due. I thought they'd just made a mistake! Hope I haven't signed up for both Blush

Lewaney3 · 24/01/2015 18:00

Hi all!
Thanks for the new thread fatty I'll actually try to keep up with this one! :)

Thanks for all the kind words ladies!
naty I'm actually 5 3" petite frame so I don't meet the general statistics and at time of conception was 24 years old. :) although from what I understand/googled my odds were 1:350/400 of having natural twins.

jenbird definitely such a surprise! These will be the first twins in mine and DH family's so it's all exciting and overwhelming! I agree with it all just sinking in. We have a few appointments coming up and. I feel like. I'm holding my breath until 20 weeks. We haven't told anyone except our parents and siblings. Yes we like the donkey too! And I agree it a quite pricey but keep telling myself we can use it again when we add again to our family :) have you bought anything else? After our booking appointment we bought a lovely pj set and teddy bear hat....now on a mission to track down another set for baby 2 :)

number I'm the same! Picked up a large box of nappies then put them back as I didn't want to curse it. Also in my head I keep doubling amounts for twins but I know I should wait and see if they're both okay first.

luckythirteen · 24/01/2015 19:07

naty1 I'm not tall, I'm around 5'3. Hadn't heard of that research!

Jenbird5891 · 24/01/2015 21:41

Naty1- I'm 5'6 so not that tall. Lewaney -Also no twins in mine nor dh's family and I'm 29 so not really that old so guess it's one of those things! Ours are Dcda so separate placenta & sac. It is exciting when u get over the initial shock! Just hoping all will be healthy having scared myself doing too much googling. I think the worry they will be born very early scares me. I'm going to start maternity leave as early as poss so I'm taking time to relax and rest. Anyone else now getting the same worry about 20 week scan that they did before the first one?! Can't believe how quickly the weeks go by though eeek!

BadIdeaBear · 24/01/2015 22:47

I'm getting tickled from the inside, I'm sure of it! It's very funny.

BadIdeaBear · 24/01/2015 22:47

Forgot again - 15+6!

Zampa · 24/01/2015 22:47

Jen I'm not concerned about the pregnancy anymore but wracked with panic and concern about my child's future. Will we be able to get it through its first weeks, months, years etc. Desperately protective already.

jmojo · 24/01/2015 23:07
