Good luck for your scan Boo. Im at the hospital waiting to be called for my GTT. Im bloody starving.

Hidingthefear · 22/01/2015 08:42

thanks re the name leaking thing, I don't feel as stupid for being angry about it now. i don't think I will change his name though (although I did see a new name I liked this morning, but I kept that to myself)

Why is your arm sore cinnamon? mine is achy from my Whooping cough jab. Luckily (if you can call it lucky) it's on the same side as my sore back so I can lie on my right hand side still.

I'm not sure about breastfeeding with visitors round. I am usually very out and proud but I just feel a little bit like it's my private thing with Baby (and DH obv) and i'd feel uncomfortable someone "watching" and I noticed someone mentioned about if I'm uneasy baby probably would be too. Maybe once it's established i'll be ok.

aww how lovely hippo!!! hope all is well.

Hope the scan goes well boo

Hiding I don't think you're being stupid either over the name leaking, we are being very careful not to tell anyone what our potential names are (not that we have many yet!) so I would be really annoyed too. Don't think you should change the name though if it's what you love.

I'm a bit nervous about breast feeding infront of people as well, especially as I'm nervous about feeding in general. Don't want to be stuck in the house by myself though so suppose I might have to get used to it, and have several muslin cloths for cover up, and some good nursing tops as well.

smogsville · 22/01/2015 09:44

mswibble - yes we got gulliver. Our builder who was doing our old kitchen was at ikea so we got him to pick one up for us. Got a proper sprung mattress from JL though. Will be reusing gulliver for this baby.

DD went into her own bed at around 2 as she had started flinging herself out of poor gulliver. You can take the side bars down on one side to make it a cotbed though instead. There are larger cotbeds as someone's said but it worked for us as we can now reuse gulliver whereas some friends who bought bigger cotbeds for their firsts then had to buy new cots when DC2 came along as DC1 still in the cotbed.

Chicken - I feel for you. You need some support on your BF plan don't you. I can see you don't want to cause arguments with MIL but if I were you (BF is vvv important to me) I wouldn't stand for it. And it's your baby, you decide when and where it's taken out.

Hiding - yes I felt like that about BF at the beginning. Took a few weeks to get comfortable and confident and then I was off, out and about, feeding in company etc. I think I just needed some time to get used to the manoeuvres so I could do it unobtrusively and without it being a big fandango. People - I find - usually politely avert their eyes while you're getting baby on the boob. After a while with a new baby you just don't really care about the odd nipple flash in any case.

Thanks smog I just feel a bit grrr. I'm going to mention it to the MW and also, I'm hoping, once I start antenatal classes they will go on about BF-ing and OH and I will get ammunition to feel stronger about it.
OH will support me but the problem is-a lot of people have never known anyone BF. So they may unwittingly undermine it. Eg ILs talking about "if baby is hungry u might have to wean it at 4mths". Er, no, it can have more boob!!!!Smile

Hidingthefear · 22/01/2015 10:05

thanks penguin i'm sticking with it, you're right, we love Max, and to call him anything else after we've called it him for weeks would feel weird

yeah smogs being stir crazy is what makes me think I'll get used to it.
My Mum sent me a very nice email to say she'll fly over when I need her and that it's up to me when I want her here, she can be here when i'm home from hospital or wait until DH is back at work, whatever works best. very non intrusive :) and I know she just wants to please me. I think she feels like this is her opportunity for not being there when i grew up which is nice. My family seem to hold a grudge but I certainly dont, living in the present is what counts.

eeek 9 weeks today and i'll be off work. They've started having guesses at when they think i'll have him and marking their guess on my works calendar! Little concerning some think end of april when i'm due on the 13th, i hope (as i'm sure we all do) that i'm not 2 weeks late!! haha

ChickenMe · 22/01/2015 10:21

My arm was so sore from that jab too Hiding. I couldn't sleep on it last night. Are you looking forward to finishing work? I've got until end Feb as I booked leave but I'm going to carry on a bit longer if I want to as I might be bored!
Fellow nervous first time BFers I think we need to find (latch onto) a friend or relative who did it. I have my best friend and Mum to reassure me luckily. My friend is lending me The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding.

minipie · 22/01/2015 10:25

thanks cinnamon hopefully that's right about induction being easier if it's second time round. I've got over myself today and not so upset about the GD/induction thing. There are so many other reasons why the MLU/water birth fantasy might get taken off the menu anyway - pretty much everyone I know has ended up on labour ward for some reason, mostly not choice. Chicken I hope your fibroids behave themselves, when do they decide if you need an ELCS?

A friend has had her baby - very sweet. Not as dramatic as hippo's story though - that sounds amazing! I have another 2 friends who are overdue and another due in a couple of weeks so the babies are coming thick and fast at the moment.

Squatting that's a good point about feeding spots. I found I needed the right sort of chair to sit it - some just didn't have enough room or support - especially in the early days when DD's latch was rubbish.

Hiding Max is a great name, glad you are sticking with it Smile.

Boo good luck with the scan!

ChickenMe · 22/01/2015 10:41

Hi Mini they decide at 36w scan if cervical roid, which is size of tennis ball, is blocking exit and/or if baby's head can't engage. Bloody roid. I understand why you'd be grr about an induction cos like you say, its letting go of that fantasy birth with whale music which is hard at first. I just wanted to be primal and push it out like a cavewoman lol. How are you finding managing the GD? Must be hard because if there's ever a time for carbs it's now!!

smogsville · 22/01/2015 10:46

Hiding Max is a great name. DD might have been a Max if she'd been born a boy! I can't have it for this baby as dear friend nabbed it when her boy was born last year.

BrixtonBunny · 22/01/2015 10:54

Just catching up - there's now an October thread Shock

My arm was really sure for a couple of days after my whooping cough jab, and I felt a bit grotty afterwards too.

Good luck to those still having GTT and hope the scan goes well today boo.

Mini I'm still firmly hoping on using the MLU and birth pools, though it's quite alarming to think of the rate of interventions that end up happening to people. Keeping fingers crossed I will be one of the lucky ones who gets to have a hippy birth, but will try not to be too sad if I can't.

Purchase wise we still need to buy car seat and Isofix base, and a few bits of clothing, but apart from that I think we're set - have bought the snuzpod, pram, changing table/ chest of drawers combi, sling, monitor, and a few smaller bits and pieces. Now just need to get house sorted! Sent another chasing email to solicitor today, sure she's getting sick of me Wink

I'm sleeping so badly at the moment (not that I've slept well all pregnancy!), I suddenly feel huge and waddling, and I'm absolutely knackered. But apart from that seem to have avoided the heartburn and leg cramps so far (though sure they will make an appearance very soon).

I must be the only person hoping I go over to give us more time to sort house!

29+1 eek! Grin

IvegotaCaveTroll · 22/01/2015 11:02

My SIL is having twins due July!! It is def going to be a baby filled year.

I'm still off work- vomiting again yesterday- bit worried I'm losing weight now (and im small anyway so it's no good).

So pleased for you Phryn

As for breastfeeding at least it's in the news a lot at the moment so hopefully people/cafe workers etc no that they cannot throw you out of places for it. My sister is a barrister and she was just involved in a case where a women made a complaint as she was told to not breastfeed where she was. Basically my sister told the accused to make a payout before court as the breastfeeding person would win. So if anyone ever gives u grief- take them to court!!

I don't suppose that works in someone else's house though Confused

Lauren82000 · 22/01/2015 11:12

Ahh the heartburn has arrived. It's not too bad so far. Mild enough to ignore as I'm reluctant to start down the gaviscon route and it stop being effective when I really need it. Someone just told me I'm more in proportion now and no longer carrying low. The heartburn certainly suggests that is the case.

My back is still very painful today, I did wonder if I would be able to get to work when I twinged it this morning rolling out of bed but so far so good. I think I must of twisted funny as I certainly haven't lifted anything remotely heavy.

DH was such a sweetie last night he had a chocochino waiting for me when I got in from work. Smile

Lauren82000 · 22/01/2015 11:18

Sorry somehow double posted there. No idea how that happened. Hmm

smogsville · 22/01/2015 11:23

My back's a bit off as well Lauren. Sitting/ lying down seems to be the worst thing as it happens.

Cavetroll - sorry to hear you're not well. Baby takes what it needs so try not to worry about him or her.

This is such total bollocks about BF. I'm really really furious that anyone would dare to have an opinion on someone else BFing other than to say can I bring you a glass of water. If anyone dared to say anything to me they would sorely regret it. I should add they never have I'm just getting cross on behalf of other people!

kismac · 22/01/2015 11:28

This GTT nonsense isn't too bad. Just been given a free sandwich, cuppa tea and a biscuit. Result!

minipie · 22/01/2015 11:58

No-one's ever said anything to me either smogs - I suspect my face when BFing says "I DARE you to criticise and see what happens" Grin.

Sorry to hear about the heartburn, backache, vomming. Miserable. I'm ok just feeling huge and back's a bit sore.

Chicken I've not really got started on the GD diet, the advisory appointment is next week so in the meantime I'll just be avoiding sugar, cereal, bread and potatoes as they seem to be the main issues from what I can tell. Once I get my testing kit I'll be able to work out a more sophisticated approach I guess!

I just spoke to the midwives and my hospital's policy is to induce at 40 weeks if diet is working, so I'm happy as I was worried it would be 38 weeks.

Hidingthefear · 22/01/2015 12:08

Yea chicken really looking forward to finishing. I know i'm lucky sitting at a desk with only an hours commute to work by car, but my ribs are starting to get so sore being sat all day, so I keep having a walk and stretching my arms up to stretch my ribs a bit. Will be glad to be able to lie down (just hope i don't go really overdue or that will have been 4 weeks sat around at home)

Your right there chicken re the BF'ing, only problem is I don't know anyone who breast fed :/ contacted a local breastfeeding group though and she posted me some info and I felt instantly more confident just reading the stuff she sent me, and she says she can come round to my house once i'm on Matt leave or i'm free to drop in on their breastfeeding day to see them and meet other mums. I'm the first of our lot to have a baby but the 2 girls at work both said it was too painfull they didn't bother or "their kid just wouldn't do it" I've since come to realise that it's more likely they just weren't quite doing it right and didn't have the support to rectify it. I've learnt from our fellow Mums netters that it shouldn't be painfull for the whole feed and that it can be possible with he right support and info so i'm feeling more confident. (just hope the lump in my left breast isn't a problem but the doctor has said in the past he didn't think it should cause a problem when I come to have kids so we'll see)
I used to think (like when I was a teenager) that you "weren't allowed" to breast feed in certain places. funny how ideas come about. I'm sure once established I'll be whipping them out in Costa in no time lol.

Thanks minipie and *smogs Grin (it's the only thing I think DH has ever made a decision on in his life which made me love it more. We were goign through names on TV for inspiration and we got Max from Catsifh :) , Max is a good looking fella on that programme)

TheBooMonster · 22/01/2015 12:33

Scan went well bump is 1200g and pretty much in the middle for all the measurements. Consultant said the placenta and cord both look good, and they would only undue me at 32 weeks if the placenta was looking really dicey, so looks like I'll definitely make it to 36 weeks if not full term pretends that doesn't scare the shit out of me baby is however breach as I suspected, got plenty of time and fluid to turn round in though. chicken I've got three extra scans; 28, 32 and 36 weeks to check the growth as DD was small at 32 weeks (just under the lines from what I can remember) and had no discernible growth when they scanned again at 36 weeks, so they took her out early.

Consultant wasn't keen to discuss plans past 36 weeks but if things carry on going well I might yet get to labour in a pool! dh will be anything but thrilled will depend on how happy the midwives are to have me in MLBU with the active third stage of labour...

hope the GTT goes well kis!

ChickenMe · 22/01/2015 12:41

Good idea re the group Hiding I am going to do that. Good if they come round! I got a DVD from the midwife and The Expectant Dads Handbook from a guy at work which has a section on how your partner can support you on BF. Hopefully if you do classes there will be other people with the same worries there.
My friend said it was hard at first too.
I know smog it makes me rage too. It's a vulnerable time for women and the comments can dent your confidence. My mum was told with me to give up as I was "hungry". She ignored it and I was fine. I think I will actually shout F off if anyone says anything bad to me!!!
