Okay, caught up a bit!

Welcome newbies! Hope you can type fast to keep up Grin!

Cinnamon please don't beat yourself up, your DS' kidney issue is most definitely not of your making! Flowers

tiny, penguin - what about things like yoghurts? Mullerlight for example not at all thinking of the pack of muller bliss and muller rice I bought on Sunday going to waste I presume they (and the like) would be too sugary? And semi-skimmed milk?

fi I had my GTT on Thurs last week, didn't get the call until lunchtime today - I had thought when I hadn't heard by yesterday evening I was in the clear, damnit!

smog wish your DD better, poor little thing!

Rustyzilla · 27/01/2015 23:05

Oh and good luck Brixton - buying your own home is v exciting! It had just taken us 2 years to renovate our house but we were pretty slow about it and my dad did it all did most of the work ourselves Grin

daholster · 27/01/2015 23:10

Hi all just a quickie cos I'm knackered... Agreed parents forget how to treat us like grown ups sometimes but they do mean well. Out families have been pretty good with dd though my mum offers advice where dh doesn't want it sometimes and iter earache about that!

Forgot to go for my whooping cough jab yesterday so it's rescheduled for Monday evening.

Got my verbaudet order - the mini sleeping bag sleepsuits I got in the sale are VERY cute!!!

penguin I am taking the rest of my annual leave for this year at the start of my mat leave - so working til 36 weeks and finishing on 13th March to go on annual leave for 2 weeks then taking maternity leave from 31st March until 31st December when I will start another 3 weeks of leave and return to work properly on Jan 23rd if I remember correctly (accommodating an out of school hols ski holiday before I go back!) I am so much more tired this time running around after dd, 7 weeks feels like ages!!! But lots of stuff to do before then....

Having some Braxton hicks this evening - tightening uterus and as though someone has squeezed my breath out and pressure in my bum as though I need the loo, but not painful. That is how mine are. Hopefully will settle as I fall asleep.

Night all!

29 weeks!

ChickenMe · 27/01/2015 23:21

Boo the ILs sound a bit controlling. Things with strings attached aren't fair. I would feel awkward. What does your DH think?
I don't know what these Braxton Hicks are like but sometimes I feel like I have a stitch. Felt a bit large today like its a big effort to move. Whale.
Whoever mentioned Jersey cream..yum. Have convinced myself that me guzzling gold top milk is good for the baby along with Cornish ice cream. OH has lactose issues oops and I gluten. Do these intolerances tend to be hereditary? Does anyone else have any?

TheBooMonster · 27/01/2015 23:33

chicken there can be a genetic side to intolerances, there is quite a high instance in my side of the family for lactose issues and it looked for a while like DD had lactose problems, but seems it was just her mature digestive system. DH is used to his parents forming an opinion / making a decision on something and not being swayed from it no matter what evidence / information they're presented with, they're about as stubborn as I am and he's stuck in the middle, just wish he'd learn to not mention things that might cause resistance :/

PenguinPoser · 28/01/2015 00:02

Rusty not sure what the official line would be about the yogurts - my opinion would be everything in moderation! Yes they have some sugar in but balance that with containing calcium so important for you and baby in that way - so I would say the occasional one wouldn't hurt at all - maybe following on from an otherwise low sugar meal? Diabetes UK seem to recommend 'diet yogurt' as a snack in fact www.diabetes.co.uk/meal-planning.html so sure the odd one is fine.

Very exciting about the house Brixton hope it all comes together soon!

Chococroc · 28/01/2015 06:52

I mentioned up thread (or maybe the last thread, they move so fast!) that I'm a type 1 diabetic, so am quite used to working out carbs in meals (and in my case matching insulin) etc. For those of you now having to look at it I would really recommend an app called Carbs & Cals (there's a free and a fuller paid for version and a book version too) which will give you the carb totals of most foods. As well as giving you the information by weight it also uses pictures of portion sizes so is really user friendly. I think most diabetes in pregnancy nurses, docs etc will set a bit of a target to not go over for each meal so it's handy for working that out.
For yoghurt, natural unsweetened is pretty good, and can help bring down the GL of a meal. The sweeter flavoured ones can vary massively, and some are really high carb so definitely something to watch out for. Everyone does react differently to these things though, so some will tolerate it better than others.
There's a charity called JDRF which has produced a couple of Diabetes in Pregnancy Toolkits. I think one is specific to type 1 but the other is more general and includes GD, they're pretty good so worth checking out.

daholster · 28/01/2015 07:09

What a terrible nights sleep! I'm so done with being knackered when I go to bed, dreaming/waking all the time then being knackered again when I wake up! I just never seem to feel better Sad Stress I think as well, work and worrying about the impact on dd, I'm getting headaches and don't want to imagine 7 weeks of work! But I've so much to do in that time idea back under the duvet in a panic

I'd hoped dd would have a lie in since a long day yesterday. No. She's awake!!! I'd better get up... ^drags self out of bed creaking and trying not to have a little cry^

StuntNun · 28/01/2015 07:14

Has anyone found a good place to buy maternity pads? The supermarkets don't stock them, Amazon seems very pricey and I couldn't find any in Mothercare. I prefer to use the proper massive pads for the first week or so then switch to nighttime sanitary pads when the flow isn't as heavy.

BonjourMinou · 28/01/2015 07:19

StuntNun the supermarkets do stock them but not with the normal pads. In my Tesco they're in the baby accessories aisle I think. Look by the baby stuff anyway, they come in big purple packs I think.

BrixtonBunny · 28/01/2015 07:23

Daholster you have my sympathy, I'm sleeping terribly at the moment - constant tossing and turning and moving and shifting then needing a wee then "what was that noise" etc Hmm

Still, at least I don't have any DC to wake me up as well.

Stunt I bought a pack of mattress style ones from mothercare so you should be able to order them online?

30 weeks today. Cannot believe it. Shock

BrixtonBunny · 28/01/2015 07:24

Thank you everyone on the house well-wishes by the way - I'll keep you all updated xx

cinnamongreyhound · 28/01/2015 07:33

Me too daholster, we went out for dh's birthday and I ate too much. Ended up staying awake with heartburn and general digestive discomfort while trying to stay still and not disturb Dh. Ds2 isn't well and Id left him water for his throat but ds1 (they like to share a bed at the moment) had had some and not put it back so he woke up crying and I got cross with ds1 :( then lay there for ages again with heartburn and sat up for a bit to try and help but it didn't. Woke up this morning feeling quite sick and certainly not refreshed!

PenguinPoser · 28/01/2015 07:36

Stuntnun Asda have maternity pads and they are are reasonably priced, I've bought 4 packs! Can't say if they're any good yet however but they look pretty huge! Again they aren't with the other pads found them in baby section with toiletries etc.

Daholster sucks that you're having bad sleep nothing worse especially when you have to be at work. I don't yet have any DC to wake me up but still find that I sleep less well when I'm working the next day (so most days!) or when I've had a bad day at work with lots on my mind. It's just rubbish! Roll on mat leave - start counting down the days!

ChickenMe · 28/01/2015 07:39

Zz I feel the same daholster although no DC so I feel for you. I wake up feeling like I've not slept and just want to cry. And then that makes you feel more stressed and deranged! I've got to watch a CCTV screen all day at work without nodding off. Grr. No wonder we get baby brain, I can almost feel the brain cells dying.
Sounds like you have to be tactical Boo and DHs arent always that good at that sort of thing and need bloody instructions!! Glad your DD doesn't have lactose intol. as a life without ice cream would be depressing (OH has to avoid. Sorbet only).

TheBooMonster · 28/01/2015 07:42

I have a mix of Sainsbury's Asda and tesco maternity mattress style pads, all £1 for a pack of 10 and all retrieved from the baby aisles as mentioned down thread. I dump a pack in the trolley pretty much every time I'm set loose in a supermarket so I'm up to about 6 packs now Blush

ChickenMe · 28/01/2015 07:46

Re pads I got some in Waitrose and Boots. Middle class Waitrose ones Grin. I noticed that Waitrose often has a lot of reductions in the baby section (this one has clothing) and I heard Aldi has a baby event (do they even sell baby stuff?!) coming up, as well as the Morrison one currently.
Urgh cinammon acid is so vile. That is why you feel sick. I had it last night too, sitting in back of throat and still here now. Rank.

Hidingthefear · 28/01/2015 07:58

stuntnun glad you asked, I can't find them either, I shop online and Tesco only had the ultra thin maternity pads which don't look like they'd be much use to start with.
I wondered if something like the Always night time pads might do the same job? they're really think and padded, with wings etc.
the whole lady time pads are new to me!! I got some thin bodyform ones to use for now just for the dicharge (sorry if TMI) but they are absolutely crap, they hardly stick at all and if i'm honest seem to make me sweat a little down there :/

Fingers and toes crossed brixton (not that I can see my toes to know if they're doing it right Grin)

think i'm going to look at a sleeping bag from Vertabaudet, wasn't much in the catalogue I fancied but still might sign up as a new customer and use the voucher I posted :)

BananaToast · 28/01/2015 08:08

I bought my pads in Boots - a mix of thick and ultra thin maternity pads. Figure I'll start off thick and move on to the thinner ones once things calm down a bit.

TinyTear · 28/01/2015 08:25

rusty my diabetic nurse says Muller Light are ok, they are the ones i stock up on now!

TinyTear · 28/01/2015 08:30

Stunt sainsbury's and Boots were the ones I used...
Hiding tje always nighttime aren't that thick... not compared to the proper ones.,.. and you will want the padding!!
even for C-section people, you can plonk one across the granny pants on top of the scar to absorb any fluid leaking, helped heal, as long as you laso have at least 30 minutes to an hour airing the wound

Wineandchoccy · 28/01/2015 08:32

Stuntnun repeating what others have said but they are on the baby aisle in supermarkets and usually on the bottom shelf which makes it fun getting them when bending down is getting more difficult!

hiding I might be wrong but I don't think you are supposed to use normal sanitary pads because they are often scented.

I had a mmc last year and found tescos the best, they were like mattresses but very comfy.

I bought some knickers from Morrisons yesterday for after the birth, full briefs, cotton in a 5 pack for £2.50 in the sale they are massive and come over my bump so would be good if I need a CS.

The weather is horrible today wish I could crawl back in bed Sad

Has anybody bought a thin dressing gown to take into hospital with them and if so where from?
I only have big fluffy ones and they will take to much space up in my case. I don't want to spend a fortune though in case it doesn't get used. I have checked ebay but there is nothing suitable.

BananaToast · 28/01/2015 08:43

Wine might be worth trying Primark. I'm not bothering with a dressing gown as I don't have a thin one I don't want ruined. Just going to take a cardigan to stick on over my pjs if needed.

daholster · 28/01/2015 08:50

Thanks for the sympathy I feel I need it! I have just worked out that before the end of my contract I have to do about 84 hours of work outside normal hours to fulfil my contractual obligations. I have a total of 15 weeks to do that in (4 of which I'm supposed to be on annual leave... Think I will be going in a bit anyway!)... Oops, stupid woman. I've had so much sick and maternity leave and have spent so much time feeling like I'm getting myself back into the swing of work and leaving the out of normal hours bit to make things a bit easier I've now caused myself a massive problem. What a loser.

Sigh.

Still, the little Verbaudet clothes I got yesterday cheer me up Smile See how you can untuck them from the sleeping bag sleepsuit at the back to change the nappy? Clever! They look so comfy!
