tightenings turned painful and I took paracetamol and they stopped

blankfornames · 10/01/2015 07:56

Morning!
Ditto with the hip pain Tick. Preggo rage gone...replaced with serious hunger!

Memphis...does sound like things are starting off for you! 2nd thread baby on the way perhaps!!

GeekyHybrid · 10/01/2015 08:07

Good morning all, I don't know whether to be happy or worried about LO's lack of 4am activity. I'm loving the sleep and LO is active rest of time, it's just changed a bit, I'm guessing cos they've got less room.

Bangonthedoor · 10/01/2015 08:15

Morning all Smile

Hip pain here too ...Hmm

How are you feeling now memphis? I had lots of tightenings yesterday evening which became uncomfortable but after about 2 hours they eased off. Why do our bodies enjoy tricking us so much?!

I'm currently having a little break in a log cabin in the forest with some friends including my oldest friend who is also pregnant due the week after me. We don't live so close anymore so it's really nice comparing our bumps and talking baby stuff.

blankfornames · 10/01/2015 08:29

Bang, that sounds amazing! Perfect pre baby get away. It's also great having a friend in the same situation as you, you can get away with a few pregnancy moans! Enjoy!

Memphisbelly · 10/01/2015 08:58

Geeky this babies timing aren't like they were either, his moving in thr night certainly isn't enought to wake me now but after teatime he is all elbows and knees.

Bangles they literally got so bad I was on all fours on the bed, had some pain killers as I was so shattered I thought I need a few hours and then woke a bit later for them to have stopped completely. I am very disheartened, if they were practive ones I have no hope of coping with the real thing

Memphisbelly · 10/01/2015 08:59

That was a reply to
Bang not bangles, the bang, blank bangles gets confusing for me Grin

jenmcspen · 10/01/2015 09:09

Slept like a log last night (minus the toilet breaks, obvs! Wink ) but was out at a family party til 1 am so shattered was not the word!
Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend Grin

Is anyone panicking about going into labour at work?
Am I right in thinking that most women's labour starts in the evening?

JacktheLab · 10/01/2015 10:31

Donk I think women need to feel relaxed and secure for labour to start, that's often why they start in the night, at home. I'm sure you won't go into labour at work Smile

Went back to bed for an hour and a half, but up and at em now, boss anyone ever seems chocolate chip cookie recipe with porridge oats as one of the ingredients? Baking with ds and very sceptical of this recipe being successful Hmm

Honeybird · 10/01/2015 10:54

Jack oats in cookies makes them lovely and chewy as long as the recipe includes enough liquid and they don't end up too dry.

BanglesSpangles · 10/01/2015 11:05

Morning all, is all quiet again memphis?

Rubbish nights sleep for me too, but I went back for a power snooze after dh went to work and am feeling pretty human.

Going to a baby shower today (not mine!). Will be nice to see everyone, but not looking forward to all the rubbish games that you have to play at these things!

Off to clear a kitchen cupboard for bottles and baby stuff

GeekyHybrid · 10/01/2015 11:32

jack my American grandma made THE BEST chocolate chip cookies in the world, and they had oats. Unfortunately cos of the differences between UK and US flour I've never been able to replicate over here Sad
memphisyou're not the only one with the bang / bangles / blank thing - I'm forever having to check back to get it clear who said what!

BanglesSpangles · 10/01/2015 11:45

Ha, maybe i should change my name to spangles!

purpleteapig · 10/01/2015 12:13

Afternoon all.

Memphis - hope you're feeling better now. I'm sure you'll cope fine when the real thing starts; don't feel disheartened - these false labour pains can be really painful! My back was killing last night with strong period pains and I started worrying something was starting but it all stopped about midnight. Cruel tricks by our bodies that I could certainly do without!

On another matter, what do ppl think about reusing a mattress from a sibling? I'm in two minds whether to buy a new Moses basket mattress and one for our hammock. They do recommend a new one for each baby, don't they? Are you guys with older kids buying new or reusing?

freneticfox · 10/01/2015 12:53

Hope you're feeling better Memphis, still think you could be the next thread baby!

35w today. Sooo uncomfortable.

Bangonthedoor · 10/01/2015 15:20

purple I'm reusing Moses basket mattress for this baby. I stuck it in the machine (although the label said not to) and it's come out ok so figuring what's the harm?

Memphisbelly · 10/01/2015 15:30

I don't see a problem with reusing a mattress if it is a sibling as long as its not been too long, ds is 4.5 and being in a dusty with condensation in it loft for that long I don't want to risk it so bought again. Luckily got them on offer in mothercare

Memphisbelly · 10/01/2015 15:31

Tightenings have started again in last hour ......2 weeks of this will send me doolally

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 10/01/2015 16:16

I'm not going to reuse any mattresses. I'm even replacing the travel cot, as well as moses basket (mothercare have some really good ones reduced to £6.99) and cot mattresses. I figured for the cost why take the risk.

Apparently the risk comes from use. Saliva, baby sick, leaked urine, etc causes a reaction with some of the chemicals used in manufacturing and protecting the mattress. Over time this causes teeny tiny amounts of gasses to be released. Adults and older children arent effected by them but young babies can be. The idea is that by buying new by the time the gases build up enough to have been a potential problem the baby is old enough not to be affected by them.

In New Zealand they apparently wrap mattresses in a special type of polythene to prevent the release of said gases.

Memphisbelly · 10/01/2015 16:24

WhyO thats really interesting, I always used a mattress protector but have still bought new as you say they are quite cheap. Ds had the expensive sprung mattress with microban something or other but realised it was a co,plete waste of money as he was never heavy enough to need springs or in it long enough to need a posh mattress Grin

JacktheLab · 10/01/2015 17:11

I'm reusing, I bought new for Jacob and they were always covered with a plastic mattress cover.

I've had quite a quiet day today, energy levels are well below normal, but DH is being fab about it and I'm just accepting that this is the way things are going to be for a little while!

PeppermintInfusion · 10/01/2015 17:55

Insomnia has hit me now too Sad I was awake from 3am last night with a sore back, baby kicking, the stormy weather and continually being hot and cold so I got up at 5am and lay on the sofa. Ended up sleeping most of this morning but still feel rubbish. My back is so sore also with any sort of standing about or stop/start walking eg round shops etc.

We did pick up the buggy today though, it was nicer than I remember Smile though it didn't fit v well on our back seat with the seatbelts so we had to pay the extra for the isofix base but I would have been too worried to use it without it as it was so unsteady.

trukevoli · 10/01/2015 19:16

I have a new obsession with batch cooking food. So far we have 16 portions of casserole, 4 red curry, 5 Indian curry and currently in the process of making cottage pie filling, chilli (2 different heat levels) and bolognese.

Tomorrow it is turning chicken breasts into kievs for the freezer.

Not too sure how much room I am going to have left it there.

Memphisbelly · 10/01/2015 19:23

I hear you on the insomnia and slowing down.

I really wouldn't mind at this late stage to go full term if I was just able to get a decent nights kip. I was exhausted last night and cried because I couldn't imagine going through labour already tired.

I have had a bath, awaiting a chinese I may have a little port and tomorrow we are planning a big walk around the wood with ds and Dog to hopefully move things in the right direction
