Thank you Frolic! Grin

Given that I am the impatient type I have decided to go for a private gender scan on 16th March. It's such a long wait between the 12 week and the 20 week scan and I just can't wait that long to see little bean again! Has anyone else had one?

pinkie87 · 03/03/2015 08:53

Oh and thank you to Fanby and ruby too for the welcome!

clairexxx · 03/03/2015 09:40

Hi everyone. Need to read back but just wanted to answer Pinkie. I had a private gender scan last week. My hospital charge £35 for a gender scan at 22 weeks and the private one was£45 and I had it done at 26 weeks. Found out I'm having a little girl! I was so impressed as they were very thorough with the scan and showed me everything in great detail. I even saw her organs! I'm so pleased I went for the scan Grin

clairexxx · 03/03/2015 09:40

Silly phone! 16 weeks not 26!!

pinkie87 · 03/03/2015 11:59

Thanks Claire, I think the fact they spend more time with you and you see things in more detail is also why it's such an appealing option! Did you get photos too?

PenguinTuxedo · 03/03/2015 13:15

Pinkie - I had one yesterday at 18wks for £39. Was worth it for us as we are far too impatient!

birchwoods · 03/03/2015 15:34

Hi everyone!

I haven't been on the thread for ages so I have probably missed loads! I love the sling chat though, I'm definitely going to get myself to a sling library when baby Birch is born!

I hope everyone is feeling well. High five for the lack of sickness Frolic!

I've been fine, part from headaches and the constipation that is the bane of my life at the moment!

We're getting closer to half way!! Smile

pinkie87 · 03/03/2015 16:50

Is anyone else suffering with hip pain? My left hip has been hurting for the past week or so. It gets worse as the day goes on and by evening I'm sort of limping! Not sure if this is a pregnancy thing or just my body having some sort of breakdown!

Sparrowlegs248 · 03/03/2015 18:04

Pinkie yes to hip pain. I have had it since 6 weeks believe it or not. I am on a permanent go slow and if i try to be more active, i really know about it later that day. Its really bad at night, in bed. Sleeping with a pillow between knees is supposed to help, and keep knees together when getting out if bed/car.

I am going to see the Dr re a physio referral.

mzzzf · 03/03/2015 19:34

pinkie & Notta sounds like pelvic girdle pain. The joys of pregnancy hormones doing naff things to your supportive ligaments. I've also got it, and I'm a physio!
Deffo get checked out but in the meantime try and avoid sitting crossed legged, or sitting on really low seats. Try and pace your activity, keep your legs together, as is comfy, when you sit/stand and try to avoid squatting and bending to pick things up. And sleep with one thick / two thins pillows between your legs.
Stuff that helps - pelvic tilts, pelvic floor exercises, clenching your bum and tummy muscles when moving and a nice posture. Swimming can also help.
It's pretty common and in some form affects about half of all pregnancy ladies, exercise (but gently) is your friend. I'm sure after your physio appointment you'll get some more specific-for-you exs.

Dozygirl · 03/03/2015 20:30

you guys have gotten chatty! Sorry if I miss anyone out. Too much to catch up on.

Had a lovely time at the caravan and it snowed! Lots! I haven't had my snow fix this year with not going skiing so I was very happy to have a little walk in the fresh snow that noone had walked on. Didn't enjoy getting stuck in my car trying to leave the caravan site though, it wouldn't make it up a hill and it nearly slid all the way back down. Luckily some helpful locals came and rescued us and pushed us up the hill.

Anyway it was lovely to spend some time with my parents. My mum is so excited to be a grandma. She has started knitting blankets already.

On the sling chat, a friend is going to lend me her close caboo so I'll try that to start with. She said it was only good for her LO while he was small. I'm not sure I'd get on with full on slings that I've seen some people use. They look pretty complicated. I like easy simple things.

Anyone doing cloth nappies? Again I like the idea of them but not sure about the extra laundry seeing as I barely get round to doing my own laundry very often. If I can get some to try then I'll give it a go once baby is a few weeks old.

nannynome · 03/03/2015 20:40

I used a close caboo with DS1 and we now have a boba 4g for him. Loved the close caboo!

We use cloth nappies, we started with a nappy library to get some idea of what was possible and then settled on pocket nappies as DS was a heavy wetter overnight and it meant we could just add more filling into the nappies! We use Wonderoos for him and are going to stock up again soon so we have extra in our stash for the baby. It is Real Nappy Week soon so there will be lots of bargains to be had! There should be a library somewhere near you, otherwise the nappy lady website does starter pack loans I think. Also you should check with your local council as some do money back schemes for using cloth nappies, ours gave us £50 back on our original stash costs if I remember correctly. Shout if you want any help, it can be a bit overwhelming at first!

Dani240 · 03/03/2015 21:47

I'm really jealous of the people that know the sex already! My 20 week scan isn't until 30th March, and a private gender scan costs £85 here!

I'd love to use cloth nappies but I'm a bit worried about the initial cost of starting up - those of you who have used cloth nappies in the past, how much money do they actually save? Do you have to get new ones all the time as they grow? Also, will I need two whole sets of nappies with twins?

I think I'm finally getting out of the exhaustion stage now (though I wouldn't call it an energy burst!). I asked DH if he wanted a cup of tea yesterday and he nearly fell off his chair as I've not been able to do anything after work since about six weeks - I'm 16+1 now!

I thought I felt one of them move the other day, but wasn't sure, and I've heard nothing since. I can't wait to feel them regularly, for reassurance more than anything Smile.

Joskar · 03/03/2015 21:51

We use cloth. I reckon it's the best baby thing we did last time. We use bamboo velcro nappies with a separate waterproof wrap on top. Bit bulkier than pockets but no leaks. Lollipops and Little Lambs are the brands we use. See if there's a local nappy group because they'll give you a starter pack with different kinds til you get an idea of what you like. Agree with nannynome about the nappy lady website: very useful. It's an extra load a day at first and then every couple of days later on (obv depending on how many nappies you have). No regrets about doing cloth and really haven't found it a hassle. We got our nappies off Gumtree £60 for 44 (22 size one and 22 size two) but that's pretty cheap mostly the kind we use are quite expensive. I still think we'd have saved money if we bought them new though. Dd is just coming into the size two now at 17 months so they do last ages. And then obv you have them for the next yin! Worth thinking about cloth for sure.

Looking back over my posts I realise I must sound like a crazy hippy with cloth nappies and wrap sling and second hand everything. Really am not at all. Just ended up doing this stuff the first time by accident/because of no money and it makes sense to me. Am totally normal and shave my armpits and everything!Grin

nannynome · 04/03/2015 06:40

Grin Joskar me too! I work in IT and am far from being a hippy (have some friends who are that way inclined) but I too am slings and cloth.

happygojo · 04/03/2015 06:46

I am all for cloth and second hand. Also I am planning on using 'cheeky wipes' reusable baby wipes. To be honest it is more the issue of our bins only being collected fortnightly and we fill the bins now! I will probably still use disposables when we are out or go away.

Equimum · 04/03/2015 08:01

We had to give up on cloth nappies with DS due to nappy rash. Unfortunately, he is very sensitive to urine and suffered wih both cloth and Eco-friendly disposables. We can literally only use Pampers Babydry on him! I'm keen to try cloth again this time, but will see how well I'm coping with 2.

We. Have, however, stuck with cloth wipes. We didn't buy Cheeky Wipes, but got some from the Nappy Lady which have a terry side and a micro fleece side. We've always loved them and they're really easy to wash etc.

Sorry to hear some of you are suffering with PGP already. Please do go to your GPs. I know my friend found hydrotherapy really helpful.

I've got my 16 week appointment this morning. Feeling strangely nervous - but that might just be about having to take my 2 year old to the appointment. (He's just tipped his milk on the floor, told me there's a puddle and jumped in it!).

I don't think we've mentioned bump size for a while. How is everyone doing? I feel really massive and although my bump is stil much bigger in the evening, it is definitely quite noticeable (to me) in the morning now. Last time round I managed to spend a whole weekend with my in-laws without anyone noticing at this stage! (It was SILs wedding and we waited until the end of the weekend to mention it).

Equimum · 04/03/2015 08:04

Oh yes, I'm also ridiculously excited about my new maternity purchases (thanks to ebay). I've now got some navy shorts, beige chinos and a silk dress for a wedding we are going to. I know the summer stuff sounds very premature, but I already have jeans, a denim skirt and some long-sleeved tops from last time (DS was born right in the middle of winter).

pinkie87 · 04/03/2015 08:23

Ooh Equimum I never even thought of ebay for maternity clothes! I'm only 14+5 but my clothes are definitely much tighter than they were before (potentially due to all of the food I eat rather than the baby but I can always dream). I resent buying all new stuff (especially for work) to hopefully only wear for a few months. I may go and have a look. :)

Dozygirl · 04/03/2015 13:10

I bought a couple of going out tops from the new look sale because they were only 3 quid each so they'll do when I'm feeling really chubby. they are too big at the moment. Need to wait till I have an actual bump.

16 week appointment today. Hoping I get to hear the heartbeat. Need something to keep me going till the 20 weeks scan. if gender scan had been cheaper I might have gone with it but I think 65 quid could be better spent elsewhere.

Dozygirl · 04/03/2015 13:11

equimum hope your 16 week appointment went well

Dozygirl · 04/03/2015 14:12

Well that felt like a waste of time. Quickest appointment ever. Anyone else feel like they just try to get through it really quickly?

Heard the heartbeat though and managed to record it so that was good. It was only for a couple of seconds. Next one isn't till 25 weeks which feels like forever away!

Equimum · 04/03/2015 17:29

Dozy, glad your appointment went well. I've found appointments can be a bit rushed, especially if everything seems okay.

My appointment went okay, thanks. The midwife managed to change an appointment I have with the obstetric team to discuss birthing options, which was initially planned for when I'll be 37 weeks. It's now at 29 weeks, which feels like a long way away, but is a but more helpful. Also found out that I am anaemic again. This happened last pregnancy, so no real surprise. U also got to hear baby's heartbeat, which was lovely. It took her ages to find it, and she was just starting to talk about sending me to the hospital when she got it (scary couple of minutes).

Fanby · 04/03/2015 18:39

Evening!!

I've been looking into private scans too, currently 16+4, I see the midwife on Friday but then the next scan isn't until 22 weeks and atm I really don't think I can wait that long! However, (like Dozy), hoping that fingers crossed I can hear the heartbeat for reassurance as that might make the wait easier? Glad your appointments went well today!

Bump size is coming on nicely, definitely sticks out more in the evening! Currently awaiting DH's return from work as we're going out for dinner, constantly hungry at the moment!

Firsttimesprog Welcome :) I haven't bought anything yet (except a pair of maternity jeans) I think we'll leave it until after our 20weeks scan tbh. We have to clear out our desk/chair/clothes rail etc from the study/nursery-to-be and since we have nowhere really to put the stuff the longer we leave it the better :)

Penguin Congrats on your little girl!! I think currently there's more in team pink so far??

Dozy Apart from the car hiccups, your break sounded lovely and very well needed, glad you had a good time!

xx

Sparrowlegs248 · 04/03/2015 18:46

My 16 wk appointment was a bit if a let down too. No listening to heartbeat - they don't do that til next time. Also different midwife, not as nice. I have booked in with the nice one for next time and know now to book for a weds and I'll get her.

I was lucky though to have a consultant appt the same week, he was really lovely, and when I said about my anxiety - no real bump and no movements, not feeling pregnant, he did a quick scan, showed baby and heartbeat so that was lovely. I have my 20wk scan next week. Hoping not to get too anxious beforehand but think that's wishful thinking!

A couple of people at work have commented in my bump - nice and neat, not showing much for 18wks and ooh you're starting to show! It really varies in size but def bigger as the day goes on.

DH said he thought I was entering the 'blooming' phase!!! Thank god! Cant say I feel blooming exactly but certainly much better.
