frenetic - potential wafty bollocks alert, but i would recommend learning some of the hypnobirthing techniques- theres some really good stuff in the course I did about fear release and that kind of thing, as well as relaxation and breathing, that as well as being helpful for the big day, are definitely chilling me out now too

RE worries about knackering your fandango, i heard good things about this thing called epiNo- it's a perineal massage tool thing, so you don't have to deal with the logistics of reaching around everything.. pretty pricey i think, but it had good reviews. I've heard birthing in water is meant to be good for controlling everything too, so you don't squeeze the baby out too fast, which can be a factor in tearing.

Ah just googled active 3rd stage. Means I have to have injection as I had retained placenta last time. As they've lost my notes from last time though I don't know if I had injection last time but still had retained placenta?

freneticfox · 06/01/2015 14:04

Bangles - thank you! I have a hypnobirthing book AND I'm planning to labour in water, so on the right track I think. Perineal massage is definitely a challenge with a huge bump so will have a hunt around for the epiNo.

It's all getting very real..

sandulacek · 06/01/2015 14:09

Bangles I'm 16th Feb now. Thanks.

BanglesSpangles · 06/01/2015 14:20

frenetic- yeah, i genuinely don't know how anyone's arms can be long enough!!

sand updating :)

donkir isnt there more of a risk of retained placenta with the injection? Just something I vaguely remember reading...

Impressive spreadsheet work bangles Grin

I know my due date isn't until 30th and as it is not a CS my exact date won't be known, but my induction is booked in for 16th Jan...

...OH is unimpressed that we have to get to the hospital for 6.45am! Wink

Butterpuff · 06/01/2015 14:49

Hi Ladies,

Do you mind if I am a late joiner? I mostly hang around on the March board as my dates suggested March, though my scan puts me at Feb 23rd. I've lurked here before but as it gets closer I wanted to pop in and say hello.

Some of you must be very close, are any of you on maternity leave already, or when will you be starting.

sandulacek · 06/01/2015 15:04

Lovely work Bangles . I might be possibly bored too...already had a nose around Grin. Should switch that telly off and do something useful! Hmmm

Memphisbelly · 06/01/2015 15:47

Donkir it was 6 months in your room when I had ds and I cried from lack of sleep after 6 weeks wirh him and dh snoring, dh wouldn't hear of him being moved until 4 months, providing this one doesn't snore like ds and dh I will go to 4 months and no more our room is too small and have had to move it into a way im struggling to sleep in now to get a crib in, very rare a baby lasts until 6 months in a moses basket, we have a crib and he used to hit the sides with his hands and wake screaming from about 3 months.

Frenetic please try not to worry. First day back at school and work here and I have had loads of people say I look massive and loads say im tiny. My ds has a massive head and came out with his arm up too, I had forceps, did no massage before hand and still had a bladder of steel within a few weeks of having ds. I have just started taking evening primrose oil as I have been told any oil based tablet helps soften the area....could be bullshit but I cannot massage there as I can barely reach, my friend has thick scarring so bad she was booked for a section as scars don't stretch well, she went into rapid labour before date and her mw massaged her scarred areas asxshe pushed resulting in no tears or damage at all!

Memphisbelly · 06/01/2015 15:54

Regarding HV appointment mine called yesterday and she said if it is a second or more baby they dont usually do a meet before, I asked what it entailed as we were struggling to find a day soon we could both do and she said just so we meet before so we feel at ease enough to ask them anything, if we have any concerns and to give info on baby groups in local area. She said it was on system about my mental health during last pg and after (I was worried she wanted to interrogate me over it) and she said she was happy with my explaining how I felt (not like last time thats for sure)

Truk you normally see different people in hv tesm from time to time, you can request certain ones not to do visits though.

Dh is away tomorrow night after his work saying they wouldnt expect him too. My dad is coming to put a new light in baby room (and to check on me I expectGrin)

Memphisbelly · 06/01/2015 15:55

Oh me again thead moved fast today

Jen would you go in on your own for first stage of induction? We had decided I would go alone as nothing normally happens in first stages so I wanted to go alone with a book, ipod and just chill on the bedGrin dh wasn't happy but then they changed their mind and said they won't induceConfused

Honeybird · 06/01/2015 15:58

Welcome butterpuff, yes there are a few already on maternity leave here!

We never used a Moses basket for my second, straight into cot next to the bed where she stayed until she was almost 2. She now shares a double bed with her brother aged 4. So this time cot again next to the bed, but with just two bedrooms we will have to move some time soonish!

I have never done much massage but did have a good midwife coaching me on when to push and I didn't tear at all. I think tearing may be a bit like stretch marks - you can use massage/creams/magic solutions if it makes you feel better but it is largely down to genetics or circumstances...

Honeybird · 06/01/2015 16:01

Can't keep up! Memphis My friend was induced twice and both times gave birth within a couple of hours. And the damn babies practically just slipped out with no fuss, I seethe with jealousy. Not that she is the norm, obviously.

donkir · 06/01/2015 16:14

Bangles that's exactly what I'm worried about. Must remember to bring it up at next midwife app but as nobody can tell me if I had it first time I've got nothing to back my concerns up.
They put my retained placenta down to everything happening really quickly. Only 5 and a half hours from first contraction to delivery.

BanglesSpangles · 06/01/2015 16:21

ah-ha- Jen- I knew there was someone that said they were being induced early- just couldn't find you!

Welcome Butterpuff. I'm due on 14th Feb- no mat leave for me until 30th January- 18 days to go and counting- Think I got a bit too used to having time off over christmas!!

GeekyHybrid · 06/01/2015 16:30

Hi butter puff. Not officially on ML yet, still using up leave but don't have to go back to work that's for sure Grin

Memphisbelly · 06/01/2015 16:33

Honeybird wow quick ones for her then! I have only heard of one quick induction and she was 2 weeks over so they just broke her water and he practically slipped out with water. I was told if I was induced before edd It would be slow (but then I was in labour for aaaaaages) I am totally prepared to be in for days after I finallly start contracting this is why I was hoping for induction just to speed me up.

BanglesSpangles · 06/01/2015 16:35

donkir - jealous face

OP posts:
sandulacek · 06/01/2015 16:44

That is fast donkir.

Bangles, 15.02.2015 is a good date according to my mum, she was telling me to choose that for my c section. But it's Sunday so couldn't choose it Grin

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 06/01/2015 16:50

Truk your neighbour shouldnt do a visit to you - its conflict of interest, so if you end up in her pile she should pass it on to another member of the team anyway. If she didn't it would be very reasonable for you to say no to her and say you want someone else.

Re the in room until 6months - DS was. I wanted him there and found his little noises comforting I barely slept for weeks when we moved him (wouldn't have moved him when we did, if he hadnt started sleeping lighter and being disturbed by me and DH even just rolling in bed). On the alarm clock front DH had an alarm that starts really quiet and gradually gets louder if you don't switch it off, DS slept through it so long as DH turned it off quick.

Memphisbelly · 06/01/2015 16:56

WhyO my ds proper snored literally like a piglet, he snores exactly like his dad...I used to anore so bad I had sleep apnea so had an op to stop it as none of my family could sleep at all...my neighbours actually complained and I had to be moved to other side of house so I have no hope of having a cute grunty baby Grin

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 06/01/2015 16:58

Very bored waiting for DH to come out of vasectomy. He wanted me here to hold his hand (bless him) but they wouldn't let me in with him. At least by early April he should have the all clear and we won't have to worry about him getting me pregnant again.

BanglesSpangles · 06/01/2015 17:03

sand that's my best friend's birthday!

I'm vaguely expecting it all to happen on the 12th- My niece and nephew were both born 12th Feb, two years apart, and my sister and I were both born on the same day, two years apart too! Very strange things happen with birthdays in our family, apparently!

OP posts:
WhyOWhyWouldYou · 06/01/2015 17:04

Memphis sleep apnea is awful - dm has it and before she was diagnosed and given one of those machines, you could hear her snoring on a different floor - so can see why your neighbours complained.
