Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PeppermintInfusion · 06/01/2015 10:37

I got the WC and flu jab at the same time. I wasn't sure about getting the flu vaccine as any other time I've had it (where I work pays for us to get it if we want) I've felt a bit feverish, especially getting the 2 of them together.
I did feel rubbish for a few days after, but I think that was the WC more than flu, as my arm was quite swollen and itchy with it. Even 2 wks later I can still feel where the injection was!
Tbh I wouldn't normally bother with the flu jab anymore but the midwife sort of coerced me into it.

I have my HV home visit this thurs, anyone else had one? Take it she just wants to see I'm prepared etc?

Ouch toothaches and headaches Confusedsorry ladies. Ive had trouble with my teeth ever since this pregnancy started. Infection after infection, i need my wisdom teeth out but obviously I have to wait until this baby is out.

Ive spent most the morning crying, its DD's first day at nursery today and I feel heartbroken! Can't wait until I get her back. It feels so strange sitting here with no child and no work. I feel a bit lazy... Grin

Had 36 week midwife appointment just now, all is fine, baby is in position and still measuring on track. I'm away this weekend but as soon as I'm back on Monday the baby can come any time Grin

How are things your end donkir? Bubba is still staying in there nicely isnt he!

geeky which hospital are you planning on going to? Will it be Worthing or chichester? I don't know which is closer to you. I'll be having mine at chichester.

Bangonthedoor · 06/01/2015 10:50

peppermint I've got my HV appointment on Friday. When I had one when I was pregnant with DD she asked questions like who will be here to help me with the baby, living situation, mental health, what my own childhood was like, my relationships with my own parents, what my relationship is like with DP, how long we'd been together. Basically I think the one I had before was just a nosey Parker!! Grin

sandulacek · 06/01/2015 10:54

Morning all!
So I didn't have the best ever sleep as promised after my massage but I can't complain! Definitely one of the better ones for ages and slept for ages. Don't worry though will be joining the club again Hmm

Bangles I think it's pregnancy related so nothing to worry about. I don't have it but what I have is swollen and painful hands during the night, they go back to normal during the day! I mentioned it to my mw who said it's the karpal tunnel syndrome (not sure it I spelt it right).

BanglesSpangles · 06/01/2015 11:51

thanks sand good to know my legs aren't going to drop off or anything!

PeppermintInfusion · 06/01/2015 12:07

Bang, that's what I thought, we're all very prepared etc so not worried about that but expecting an inquisition Grin getting my hyperactive dog out of the way before she arrives mind you

donkir · 06/01/2015 12:34

Bang jelly bean is still hanging in there although the fanny daggers are agony. After all the stress of possible pre term labour I bet the little bugger will go over due.

Pepper I had my HV come at 28 weeks and my god they're nosey. Wanted to know all family history, how I coped with ds, how I'll cope this time. What other half a family were like. She told him social services should have been involved when he was little. That didn't go down too well. We don't see oh family so was of no real concern. She also wanted to see where lo will be sleeping.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 06/01/2015 12:45

Well section date is booked - they asked us to pick a date!!! Mon 9th (when I'm 39weeks) was booked but rest of week was available and up to us which day. So we've gone for 10th but it was really, really bizarre picking her birthday.

She's now got a femur length off the charts and estimated current weight of over 6lb (I'm 34+1week). Be interesting to see if she's actually big when born or just long and skinny like DS was.

BanglesSpangles · 06/01/2015 12:51

im going to do some spreadsheet movings to get the ELCS dates up to date. Admin admin, gotta love it!

OP posts:
WhyOWhyWouldYou · 06/01/2015 12:51

Oh and here we don't get a pregnancy HV visit (at least I don't think we do) - I'm quite thankful, as I didn't like mine last time. Last time, after having DS, he gave me an hour lecture on how my baby was going to die from tummy sleeping (DS had a rare medical condition and his airways were crushed lying on his back or side! Tummy sleeping was medically safest in his case and I was worried enough about it all.)

donkir · 06/01/2015 13:03

My ds was always and still is at the age of 12 a tummy sleeper. He was fine.

What does everyone think to the new rule of baby has to sleep in the same room as you at all times until 6 months?

BanglesSpangles · 06/01/2015 13:16

i know so many people that have had the baby in their own room in a shorter amount of time, that I'm going to wing it, I think- wait until he outgrows the moses basket and reassess then. There's no way we'd be able to fit a cot in our bedroom!

Guess it's just another one of those things where yes the research points towards it being safer to keep them in your room until 6 months, but equally there will be millions of babies that go into their own rooms quicker (or stay with parents for longer!) with no ill effects

sandulacek · 06/01/2015 13:19

Lol Bangles ...are you bored? Wink

Nobody mentioned HV as yet so might ask the mw next week when I have 34wk appt.

donkir haven't heard about the new rule but I guess was planning to use the moses basket anyway.

sandulacek · 06/01/2015 13:21

Ah didn't think she might outgrow the moses basket...oops

longbottom · 06/01/2015 13:22

We don't get the pre birth health visitor in my area, I'm pleased, I hate things like that!

They said when I had DD 6 years ago it was back sleeping for 6 months in your room. She turned herself over from about 3 months, and we put her in her room from 4 months as she had out grown the crib and didn't want to put cot in our room.

Minichuch · 06/01/2015 13:25

My answer to the hv in relation to junior being in our room till 6 months is yes of course, however, dh works shifts 6 till 6, so don't really want dh disturbing them when coming in or going to work - we are going away end of may so looking at when we return moving junior to their own room - figure its not a million miles from our room and no different to if we are downstairs and they are upstairs asleep - mil was horrified at the thought of me doing that - my parents were like we took no notice of things like that when you were little and you and your brother are ok

BanglesSpangles · 06/01/2015 13:28

sand quite possibly! I've only found two confirmed CS dates- why and tonights- sure there are a couple more, so if anyone wants to be moved on the spreadsheet of wonder, let me know!

Ooh, I know mini asked this a few days ago, but any more opinions would be welcomed- natural or managed third stage?- My MW 'asked' me when we were writing my birth preferences... well, actually, she just said 'are you happy to be given an injection for your third stage?' and expected me to make a snap decision based on no research, and she wasn't particularly full of information on the pros and cons.

I've ended up with 'natural third stage' included in my notes because she was that keen to get the 'birth plan complete' box ticked at the appointment, but I can always change it

longbottom · 06/01/2015 13:29

Had my 32 week appointment today, all ok, baby is plotting on the 90th centile, but midwife said it's all baby, not a lot of fluid in there.
Bloods back all fine, booked to have whooping cough on Thursday, I also have refused flu jab.
Midwife asked if I was interested in a home birth, felt like she was pushing it but I want to be in hospital just incase. I am a worrier!

donkir · 06/01/2015 13:30

I'm the same mini. Ds was in my room until 6 months but only because I lived at home and there was no where else to put him. This time I think as soon as he outgrows crib he'll go in his own room. Ds was 3 months when he outgrew his crib.
But yes if HV asks of course he'll sleep on his back and be with us for 6 months Wink

trukevoli · 06/01/2015 13:31

Noone has mentioned to me about a HV either and had my 34 week appt yesterday.

If you are supplied with one, is it possible to request a change as I know a HV lives on my road and would rather it wasn't her.

We aÃ…?e having the baby in our room in a travel cot. That way it can be with us as long as we want and also if we go stay anywhere we would be taking the actual bed with us so would hopefully settle better.

It is proving to be a pain getting a decent mattress as we are uncertain as to what type to get.

donkir · 06/01/2015 13:32

My notes say active 3rd stage but not a clue what that means.

freneticfox · 06/01/2015 13:35

Eeek, I've missed so much again... I'm pants at keeping up with things at the moment. Sitting still for any length of time means I focus on birth, and I start panicking.

Seriously, panicking. I know logically I shouldn't pay attention to comments about my size because all women are different etc. But I'm 34+3 and people keep saying I look full term, I must have a huge baby in there, it's going to rip me apart, blah blah. I'm not fussed about pain of childbirth - I know it's inevitable. My pain tolerance is pretty high anyway. But I am REALLY scared about sustaining damage to my pelvic floor and having months of painful and upsetting recovery.

I'm sure it's a common worry, I'm doing all I can. Perineal massage, pelvic floor etc. Is there anything else I can do? Please tell me others panic about this...

Minichuch · 06/01/2015 13:36

[bangles] the tiny bit of reading that I did on third stage labour im leaning towards natural opposed to the injection - it hasn't been raised with me yet - although got 34 wk appointment next week with mw and she said she was covering feeding which will be an interesting conversation as I've decided I don't want to breastfeed so don't know how she will react to that

GeekyHybrid · 06/01/2015 13:39

We've had HV visit here, just loads of Q's about family etc.. She managed to not raise too many eyebrows Wink You know that poster about family tree being full of nuts?! I think from my frank discussion of said issues that she concluded that I'm the sane one Shock
Bang I've elected for St Richards though could have done either, I've just heard more positives about Chi though my mates are fairly evenly split between them and not heard negatives about either. I think we're quite lucky around here, though trying to get hold of the ante natal education team seems very hit and miss e.g. I've been trying since mid Dec, keep leaving messages and no response yet! MW tomorrow so may throw a wobblyHmm

BanglesSpangles · 06/01/2015 13:43

mini i was leaning towards the injection, but just got a bit annoyed that it was basically presented as a foregone conclusion, which is why I started demanding more information!

The feeding question was covered too- I said bottle, which she was absolutely fine with- no arguments whatsoever, but then I said 'argh, I dont know, I'm not sure' and rather than talking about it she just said 'how about we just put undecided?'. Brilliant, yeah, cheers. I'll swear all the midwives in my area just seem a bit... pedestrian- like they're going through the motions
