Bananna three weeks from today, off on holiday shortly so I'm having my scan at 21 weeks the day after we get back.

Ahh first migraine since pregnant!

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 26/11/2014 12:31

it's only costing £45 (Only!) but it's on the daddy's birthday which makes it extra special too. I won't be having any more kids, so this will be his only one genetically (as far as he's concerned, my two boys are his too anyway). If he wants to spend "his" money on it, she should keep quiet.

I just figure I'd better get used to ignoring "advice" again... lol

we have most of the baby gear from having my boys, just need a new cot, a car seat, and to replace the car so we can fit 3 child seats in. So we can manage £45 "wasted" on something we both want!

Hidingthefear · 26/11/2014 13:00

Thank you OneDay I’ll defo give that a try and will be off to the shops tonight while the dog is at the groomers! Hopefully a little bit of Spanish sun will do me some good and make be feel better, roll on next Friday! (although not looking forward to the VERY early morning considering the everlasting sickness)
Ewby what a miserable sonographer. The first one we saw at 11 weeks wasn’t the nicest. She left me feeling really scared and worried by giving me the scan picture and said “here you go, keep it secret, don’t tell anybody just in case” : ( your MIL also sounds like hard work!!
Might be a little late but good luck to cinnamon!!

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 26/11/2014 13:05

the MIL is just... forceful. she's like the unstoppable force, whereas I tend more towards the "immovable object" side of things.

She is lovely, though, treats my two boys like they are her natural grandchildren even before I got together with her son (he used to be my best friend.. still is, of course, but not just that any more)

oops, double post!

Hidingthefear · 26/11/2014 13:45

aww well that's good that she's great with the children,
my MIL is nice its the grandmother that's the difficult one. She actually sulked because she said she wanted to buy a bouncer for baby and when I said someone was already getting us one she did some fake crying and said can they not get something else, she's important, she's the Great Grandma!
i just chuckled and politely said no sorry but you're welcome to buy something else if you would like to...
me and My DH were best friends too and then bf/gf at school and only split up because we thought we'd never see each other again! when we left school... teenagers can be so dramatic lol and we only lived about 4 miles away from each other haha.

TheBooMonster · 26/11/2014 13:52

minipie Yay on a nice smooth anomaly scan! Did you already know you were having a girl? Our holiday year runs february to february so I literally can't use it any earlier than we're looking at, and it has to all be booked for before I go on maternity leave because even if I give them a return date in my letter they have to assume I'm taking the whole year and I would thus lose holiday (and heaven forbid they had to cough up the unused holiday) They also have an entirely fucked up unusual holiday policy where you have to book whole weeks so I can't even go down to say a day a week and use it slowly.

good luck today cinnamon and berberana

Has anyone noticed there's something in the air today? Everyone has been so grumpy and confrontational today out and about O.o MiL came to pick us up for tumble tots and we got in the car and someone stopped their car in the middle of the street to unload their shopping in front of our car as MiL was attempting to leave the space. He then proceeded to unpack all of the shopping in his car then stand and have a chat and a drink with someone at the door! MiL asked him to move his car so she could get out and he went off on one, but then moved his car, MiL then moved her car, tried to turn it round and a woman came out of the house and walked up to the car to stop us leaving to try and have a go at her almost getting herself run over int he process... If the bloke (who had clearly seen we were in the car with the engine running attempting to leave) had just allowed us to go in the first place he could have parked his car in the space we had been in outside the house >.> The parking spaces round here aren't allocated so it's not even like we'd 'taken' someones car parking space and thus in some way deserved it sigh We then had a run in with someone in the carpark who was going the wrong way round the one way system and a run in with someone at the checkouts, I'm not leaving the house again today lest there is bloodshed!

ewby glad all went well with the scan, your MiL sounds a bit familiar, DH won't even entertain the idea of a paid scan because of how his mum would react, and they have very different ideas over what constitutes a waste of money than we do, DH is forever saying "But mum we can't actually afford that, which is why we're doing XYZ"

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 26/11/2014 14:07

She just can't understand why they're needed, as "I never had any scans!"

I'm so tempted to reply to that with "great for you, did they even do them on the NHS in 1980?" and I have a very complicated medical history which means they are necessary. I was going to just not tell her, no point in stirring it up. But he's just used to her having input on everything and didn't think to not mention it. Funnily enough, she's been keen to see every scan picture so far... lol

the person with the car issue sounds like they were just that type, BooMonster
Hope you aren't still upset about it!

TheBooMonster · 26/11/2014 15:04

Ewby I'm just hoping he was having a bad day, I'm not sure if he's the person who's just moved in to the place or a visitor and don't want to have to duck and avoid him for the rest of forever... Especially as I've been trying to keep our neighbours happy so they don't report our chickens to the housing association who own the estate (we own the property but the deeds do rather indicate we shouldn't exactly have the girls in the back garden...)

Lol, does she get her own copies of the scan pics? If so perhaps suggest that as the scans aren't necessary she obviously doesn't want any more pics so perhaps you should save money by not getting her any more, that should shh her. not at all argumentative more productive is perhaps the reminder that medical knowledge has advanced drastically since she had kids and with more easy access to scans has come higher prospects of healthy babies and a lower rate of still births and infant mortality because problems can be picked up In the womb. We've got 3 extra scans due to DD suffering IUGR and having to be removed almost a month early.

Wow that just took ages. Trying to get some more of my Christmas shopping from amazon and my internet at work kept crashing. Then I discovered you can get your stuff delivered to a collect+ shop down the road. Saves me a trip into town to the sorting office. So that was taking forever to go through. Then I had to redo my card details because it's a new address. Took 20mins to process it and 2 different web browsers was almost ready to give up. Least it's done now and that's my 2 nieces sorted. (Disney me reader) another game for DD and a bit of a stocking filler for DH. A little toy grabber machine. (Every time we go on holiday he tries to win a teddy for DD in the arcades) it's a bit of a joke present but DD will like it as you fill it with sweeties.

Lauren82000 · 26/11/2014 15:21

Oh Ebwy, my mum had a scan with me in 1984 but it was a bit of a cheat as she had a friend that worked in the ultrasound bit of the hospital and gave her a scan as a favour. The pictures are terrible by today's standards but she was amazed by it at the time. Apparently I was sucking my finger not that you can tell in the pics. Smile

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 26/11/2014 16:10

I envy you, boo, for the chickens! I loved ours, could tell them what was bothering me and be rewarded with little old lady sympathy noises!

No, she doesn't get her own copy, we pay for one and take a photo of it :D

they definitely didn't do scans when I was born in 1974 the dark ages lol

candy grabber machine! might have to get one of those... I used to have one, wonder if my eldest is devious enough to take the top off to get sweets without hassle yet?

Lauren82000 · 26/11/2014 16:17

They also had the coin shuffler thingy. My DD loves those. Have to get her a stool in the arcades so she can reach. Blush she just loves playing with money, sort of gets you buy things with it. But it's much better to line it all up or fish it out to people/toys and take it back again.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 26/11/2014 16:22

ooh can I have a link to the coin shuffler thing please? my SIL's little boy is obsessed with them!

(they are my 4 year old's favourite too)

berberana · 26/11/2014 16:38

Hello again. Anomaly scan all went fine - everything perfectly as you would hope to see, in fine working order - so relieved, didn't realise I so was anxious til I got home and felt emotionally drained! It's another little boy - can't deny we would have liked one of each but I'll get over it! I will hardly have to buy any new clothes - thrown nothing of DS's away... such a hoarder!

It was a private scan through 121 Midwives which we didn't have to pay for - agree they are superior to NHS, although I've never had any issue with "people skills", they are just a bit time-bound. This morning, there was a monitor at the foot of the bed as well as at the side, so I could see everything the sonographer was measuring and lots more detail, she explained everything on the screen - so interesting to see how they check blood flow, see all the chambers of the heart etc. I can't quite justify to myself paying for another private scan so soon, but I might get the urge to check everything's still looking ok in a few months' time!

Freedom - DS is 3y6m - he will start school next September so we have to apply by January. We live equidistant from 2 decent schools, but the one we visited today has small class sizes (22 kids ish) and a high teacher/pupil ratio, so they are taught in small ability groups of around 5 kids to 1 teacher / TA which we were really impressed by. Everything about it seemed lovely and cosy and friendly, their academic results are excellent and it's OFSTED Outstanding so fingers crossed he gets in!

Lauren82000 · 26/11/2014 16:55

Here you go Ebwy

More expensive than the grabber but still just as fun.

Hidingthefear · 26/11/2014 17:05

I have a coin pusher ! DH bought it for me because I love them when we go to any arcades. Due to clearing out its going in the bin now seen as I don't have any charity shops near me. It's a little dusty and doesn't have a box but your more than welcome to it if you want this one for free. It came from amamazon though for not very much if you're looking to buy one.

few friends are going 10 pin bowling tonight. I'm going with although not sure it's a good idea for me to join in. Don't want to put my back out!!

Glad to hear all the scans going well.

londonlivvy · 26/11/2014 17:05

Scan today at 21 weeks and all fine. Team pink. Am getting my head around it as we already have one dd and had been kinda hoping for something different, but the main thing is that the baby is ok.

dancestomyowntune · 26/11/2014 17:09

So I had my scan, all looked good. Anterior placenta as we thought but not low. Pleased to announce that we are having another girl. So that will be three girls and two boys.

My blood pressure still playing silly beggars tho so back to antenatal for monitoring on Friday and even more blooming pills! Not great but we will get there in the end.

chiliplant · 26/11/2014 17:30

Great news on scans! I went into town today t look at 'boy' stuff..trying t get my head around it all! Still didn't buy anything..seems too early in my little brain!
Just had t mention, we had a lively sonographer who explained everything very friendly and kind. I asked if it was a boy or girl, she paused I said we don't mind either way as long as it doesn't grow up t b Jeremy hunt.
Feel a bit sad its your last scan which is funny as I will actually see the baby hopefully next time!x

BananaToast · 26/11/2014 17:35

Congratulations london and dances! So many girls in this group!

Hidingthefear · 26/11/2014 17:53

Ooo congrats everyone!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 26/11/2014 18:48

You can't smogsville as you can't get it until your pregnancy is considered viable which is 24 weeks :(

Good news minipie! And upduffedsecret, sorry you didn't have a nice sonographer. And berberana! And londonlivvy! And dancestomyowntune! Busy day for scans!!!

SquattingNeville, if your primary doesn't have a nursery I'd recommend finding out which preschool most children from the primary go to and then he will hopefully make some friends before he goes. Our nursery takes catchment first and then non catchment but in age order.

Thank you all for your thoughts and well wishes! It's not as good as we'd hoped. Both kidneys are affected not just the one but the amniotic fluid levels are normal, bladder is normal and all the tubes are normal. He said we may not be sure until baby's born but as its only the kidneys affected (and not the rest of the system) it could be a blockage where the urine leaves the kidney. The kidneys are working and urine is being produced. He said unless anything changes I can have a normal delivery and they will scan him after he's born and be on oral antibiotics but if they continue to get bigger or brighter on the scan it could show developmental problems with the kidneys and then he may have to be born at addenbrookes or a bit early but he said that's highly unlikely. I'm going to be scanned every 4 weeks now until he's born to monitor and he said after 2-3 scans they'll have a better picture. Next time I will see a foetal urology specialist whereas this guy was just a general obstetrician. Trying to be positive as being stressed for my whole pregnancy won't help anyone! I'm back on 12th dec as Christmas is right where 4 weeks would be.

To top off my week, one of my mum has cut her hours dramatically so after Christmas I will be down £550 a month! The race will be on to find a child to mind before this one is born or the baby will my space and I won't have a space to fill!!!
