No carbon monoxide test here. They didn't even weigh me.

Oh yes, I drink hot water and lemon in the morning but don't fancy it in the afternoon.

I've no idea thelovecats. From what I gather, major defects often cause a mc before the 12 week scan. I think that Spina Bifida can be picked up at the 12 week scan, I'm not sure what else. It's usually known as a dating scan and not all areas do it; I think most defects are picked up at the 20 week scan. It's a long time to wait to know that everything's likely to be ok (it's probably why some people wait till 20 weeks to tell people). I'd love to see stats as I don't think reading on here gives an accurate picture!

cuphat · 15/11/2014 16:28

I'd love to know the stats on mmc too.

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/11/2014 16:33

I don't think knowig the statistics necessarily helps when it is for things you simply can't prevent or predict.

You will either fall into the statistics in question or you won't.

cuphat · 15/11/2014 16:37

No, it doesn't help, Ali. Things like mmc seem so common on here though; I'd be interested to see what the UK rates actually are.

MrsExtraOrdinary · 15/11/2014 16:41

Down syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities are picked up at 12 weeks. That's why they do the nuchal measurement. I had a raised measurement on baby3. Was referred to St.thomass in London, where I was born. A shadow was found on baby's heart another downs trait so I ended up having an amnio at 20 weeks. It was quite a scary time but all was well. He's 11 now and perfectly healthy in every way. Smile

cuphat · 15/11/2014 16:45

That must have been a scary time. They didn't do the nuchal measurement here last time. Just a blood test which gave me a 1 in 14,000 chance. Would it have been picked up at the 20 week scan if my baby was that 1?

cuphat · 15/11/2014 16:47

Actually, the fact you had an amino at 20 weeks answers my question.

Thanks Sunbathing.

MrsExtraOrdinary · 15/11/2014 16:56

I had my amnio because there were other pointers later as well as raised nuchal measurement at 12 wks The shadow wasn't obvious until 20 weeks. But we opted at 12 wks to wait for 20 wks because then they didn't like doing amnio until 20 wks. Does that make sense?

Thelovecats · 15/11/2014 16:56

I would like to know the statistics, because I agree that the incidence of things going wrong seems high on online forums. I know there is every likelihood things will be ok, but I am guilty of a bit of paranoia sometimes, as I'm sure lots of us are!

cuphat · 15/11/2014 16:59

Yes it does, thanks Mrs. So amino is less risky the later on you have it?

ChatEnOeuf · 15/11/2014 17:04

Yes Cuphat. I know of several consultants who offer 34-week amnios for those parents who wouldn't terminate for a chromosomal abnormality but wanted to know for sure before delivery, to prepare themselves. If the waters go at that point, at least you've got a baby who is a good size to deliver rather than a 16-week foetus.

I would expect as the number of women getting early scans goes up, those embryos not developing will get picked up sooner and won't get to 12w so often. I'd heard it was 1-2% of pregnancies, but that could have been local stats.

cuphat · 15/11/2014 17:07

Thanks Chat, that's really interesting.

TheDetective · 15/11/2014 17:10

I've picked up some fresh apple juice, and lemonade. The lemonade made me feel terrible - won't be having that then!

I actually started retching in the Aldi car park this afternoon. Bet I looked a right state! I was trying not to panic and wet myself as I do get in a flap if I vomit. But I kept hold of myself, and managed not to vomit. It's the closest I've been to vomiting, and it terrified me. But the fact I managed to stop it I know that this is as bad as it will be. I couldn't ever stop myself vomiting in previous pregnancies. I had to shovel in two chocolate eclairs with the chocolate removed - can't stand chocolate right now! to stop the nausea Grin what a shame!

The difference between regular pregnancy vomiting and nausea and HG is astounding. I mean, the difference is so obvious now I can compare both.

For those struggling with protein, I am totally cool with quorn stuff - I know not everyone can tolerate it, or likes it. But I was veggie for a long time, and quite like it. So I've just bought a few bits to keep me going while I'm off all other forms of protein!

I've finally picked up something for this baby. This is late for me. Previously has seen me buying from the second I got the positive test! I picked up some muslin cloths. £1.99 for a 3 pack. And the massive ones, £6.99 for a 3 pack. I'm intending to use the large ones for swaddling/covering up from birth, since our babies are going to be born in the middle of summer. I still want some of the Aden and Anais ones though, but at £45 for a pack of 3, they make me want to cry!

Must get myself to an NCT sale. I bet I could get some of the things I need there.

cuphat · 15/11/2014 17:22

Grin at the eclairs.

Tk Maxx sometimes have the Aden and Anais muslins.

Excellent cuphat I'll stalk my local TK Maxx then! Grin

I really feel quite rough this evening. I can't even put my PJ's on and veg out. DS1 has 2 mates over for a sleepover.

Have to pretend I'm normal! GRR!

Is anyone else going to get the bedside crib? I've been looking at them, and like the idea. I'd have to get rid of my bedside table though, and get some new furniture in my room in order to fit it in Shock. My room just isn't big enough :(

Ooo, good to know about the A&A muslins appearing in TKMaxx, will keep my eyes peeled. If I remember. Blush

Detective - I've seen those bedside cribs or co-sleepers on a blog I read. I'm unsure at the moment. Can see good things (not having.g to really drag my lazy bum out of bed at all hours of the night) and potential downsides (could disturb hubs who would be working in the morning) to them. Might return to the idea later on I'm this pregnancy. Although, I know hubs will get disturbed whatever option we go for I must add. Smile

Tryingreallyhard84 · 15/11/2014 17:55

Tori - this sounds like a good plan. Will look into that myself.

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/11/2014 18:09

Sorry cup, I was a bit abrupt there.

I think what sun says is true of it being more discussed in forum such as this.

After getting myself in a total tizz for a few weeks I'm currently going for "whilst nothing is known to be wrong, everything is alright".

Knowing my DH's past experience with his previous partner is proving slightly unhelpful to this mentality as I know they found about the foetus had a condition was incompatible with life at the first scan.

But I suppose though things like the above certainly do happen (obviously) they are more unusual than everything being okay.

htf2 · 15/11/2014 18:19

detective not sure others will want to read about this but I am interested in some more info on the difference in nausea and vomiting type between regular and severe pregnancy sickness. For honesty's sake I think I want to feel like I'm not really pathetic when none of my friends /family have been this sick except my mum and I don't really feel like they get it, but I also have no idea what they felt...

cuphat · 15/11/2014 18:22

There hasn't been a massive choice of designs when I've seen them though.

I didn't bother with a bedside crib, I wasn't a fan of feeding lying down (plus this might be a stupid question but don't they encourage you to feed on one side more than the other?). And I've heard babies grow out of them quickly. I had a c section so my husband would get up every time and bring baby over to me! We started with a Moses basket so baby was cosy and then moved onto a crib next to the bed and we'll use them both again.

BingoBonkers · 15/11/2014 19:38

Going out tonight. All in black. Let's hope nobody notices. I've also got stomach ache and a few pains which I reckon are ligaments. I've felt rough today apart from this Morning so that is an improvement but nothing I've eaten including three lots of two slices of toast slathered in butter has really helped. Don't know how I can be this massive already and I'm only 9wks tmw. Just want the scans to hurry up so can get rid of the not knowing and move on.
