Well ladies, here's our tale from the New Year!
went to hospital 1/1/15 @ 10am for induction. Still 2cm so no further since the sweep on the Monday.
pessary in and mild contractions start. 6hr later second pessary in and contractions ramp up.
went to labour Ward just before midnight.
mw broke my waters and put me on syntocin (?) drip. Did well on g&a until drip was ramped up 4th time to 12ml (?)
contractions coming strong, fast and v painful.
I decide I need epidural and anaesthetist came down. epidural in and after 15 mins is working wonders.
mw examines me and I'm only 4cm - something doesn't feel right.
Senior midwife examines me and it feels like baby is breech! Also baby's heart rate is dropping a lot in contractions and not recovering.
dr called and the do scan - baby v much head down but what they can feel is her forehead and eyes! She's presenting face first! dr confirms her position and tells us we need emergency section. I agree as baby comes first and is action stations! alarm goes off, midwives and dr everywhere.
spinal inserted now rushed to theatre.
dh is white! He's terrified of what is happening and there being any problems.
In theatre the staff were amazing! Baby Eleanor was born at 4.54 weighing 8lb10oz.
They had to use forceps to get her out during section because she's wedged in!
They got her out... That first cry... amazing! Both me & dh in tears!
Once she's out I got skin to skin in theatre and then dh took her with mw to our room while I got sorted out.
She feed for an hour then and was really settled all day. overnight though she's got lazy, won't feed properly so I'm pumping& expressing colostrum for her. offering breast regularly & she suckles but gets bored! Work in progress I think! She's had half a top up feed as she was hungry but not enough milk to keep her interested.
I've had my catheter out, am up and about (if not store) and loving my newborn cuddles!
The staff here are AMAZING! Can't fault them at all and so supportive.
Going to try and sleep now and hopefully be told later how long I'll be in hospital for before I can go home.
so there is my eventful story of how Eleanor Felicity Hay came in to the world!

Oh my goodness, what a story!
You did so well, so adaptable with your birth plan!
Get some rest if you can and hope you get to go home soon. X

Dec2013mummy · 03/01/2015 05:07

Wow 2 amazing birth stories. I had the same problem with dd as you Cheshire and had the synto but no epidural because my blood clotting was all wrong and it was pretty horrendous so I'm glad you got an epidural in to spare you the agony of the drip! I remember the relief of that first cry then waiting for the 2nd cry and that coming a few seconds later and just thinking thank god!

Dec that all sounds like a very dramatic delivery! I bet you didn't expect that!

What actually is spd? I've been getting severely sharp shooting pains in my cervix for some time now. It's not all the time though so just put it down to baby pressing on a nerve or something. Does spd happen all the time or on and off? The pain was terrible last night and was nearly shooting me through the roof. Baby was really active too.

I'm so disappointed because 6 days ago I had some sort of show and 30 mins of bad period pains every 5 mins but they just stopped and ive had nothing ever since. Mw said that might happen again as it was just my body gearing up but what with the sweep not working I'm beginning to feel quite despondent. Due date tomorrow and I'm already bored of this waiting. Come on baby! Enough is enough!

LittlePink · 03/01/2015 08:42

Forgot to say dec she's so gorgeous! Lots of black hair. Did you have heartburn?

sunshineandbiscuits · 03/01/2015 09:51

dec and cheshire thank you so much for sharing your amazing birth stories! Your pictures are soooo adorable too Smile. Good luck with the next few days and ches I hope you get to go home soon.

39+3

Pesto11 · 03/01/2015 09:53

What kind of milk have you packed in your hospital incase your milk doesn't come in?
We have a mini (yakult size) cow and gate newborn milk thing - and a bottle.

I want to breastfeed but need a back up

cheshirem2b · 03/01/2015 10:00

Pesto the hospital have a choice of aptimil, c&g or something else. We're using the aptimil and she seems to like it.
She sleeping like a dream between feeds! Completely smitten!

HulaHoopsInTheBath · 03/01/2015 10:03

Such huge congratulations to you both cheshire and dec and what amazing and different birth stories. You both did amazing and what beautiful little bundles Smile Enjoy your gorgeous little girls and I hope you get some rest!

Pesto my milk took 3 days with DD. I don't know what the official advice is, but I didnt offer a bottle until my milk was well established and found b/f very easy once my milk was through, had tons of it. I will be doing the same this time so not taking any milk with me.

little yesterday marked 2 weeks since I had a show, totally know your disappointment. I thought that meant I would be home with my baby days ago. She is clearly just stubborn - signs she will be just like her father!!!

mad also looking for a faster delivery here too, FX!

40+1 hurry up baby!!!

Wow dec. what a rush. Thank goodness you didn't end up giving birth in the car on route.

I'm getting more impatient now. Come on baby!

40+1

BilboTheAlmighty · 03/01/2015 10:21

I love birth stories! Well done cheshire ! And you have the patience of an angel, might I add!

littlepink I can't remember what spd stands for but it is a sort of pain you feel around the pelvis, at the bottom. It's a ligament pain and can either be very sharp or like a dull ache. Most women present symptoms toward the end of their pregnancy but, like chiruri mine is only painful after I have been sitting or lying for too long (which makes for very interesting nights when I need to turn over in bed or go to the loo!). Some women end up with crutches and even on a wheelchair! What you are describing (the sharp pains in your cervix) is more likely to be baby's head butting this very sensitive spot! Smile

DH is back at work today. Early shifts. Hey are my "favourite" ones as it means he's back home at 3/3.30pm but he's so tired after waking up at 3am that we end up doing nothing at all as I just want him to rest. I hope 2015 brings him a nice 9-5 job as well as a healthy daughter Smile

chiruri · 03/01/2015 11:11

Wow, amazing story Cheshire! Congratulations Smile.
Little, SPD stands for symphysis pubis dysfunction and it is basically over-loosening of the pubic joint of the pelvis. I feel it when I get up from sitting or lying, or when I roll over in bed if I let my knees fall apart rather than keeping them together. It feels like a sharp pain at the front of my pelvis and, when walking, definitely contributes to my waddle and it makes it difficult to stand up completely straight.
The cervix pain feels much more deep inside, can happen at any time, and is always associated with baby otherwise wriggling. Luckily I don't get any nerve pain, but that would most likely feel like a trickling or shooting sensation going down your inner thighs or into your lady bits.
I hope that helps Smile
Looking forward to a relaxing day today. DH is on nights (he's an anaesthetist and is actually the on-call for the maternity unit in my local hospital for the next two nights) so I'm DEFINITELY not going into labour until at least Monday! One of our cats has decided to lay claim to my bump and won't leave me alone. It's cute and warm, but I'd quite like to get up and do things occasionally.

Pesto11 · 03/01/2015 11:15

Thank you so much for your speedy responses ladies!
Dh's family all bottle fed and I really want to stick to my guns with the breastfeeding but aware that I don't know what I'm doing and don't want the baby to go hungry at the beginning!
They'll all be over 24/7 With their 'advice'

They'll be enough colostrum to nourish baby until milk comes in. We hope. That's good.
Mind at rest a lot more now. Thank you.

Come on baby ... 40weeks today.

Supposed to be your birthday!

HulaHoopsInTheBath · 03/01/2015 15:21

Pesto the first week b/fing for me was tough as DD had hollow legs and I felt like she was plugged in all the time. Glad not to have the faff of bottles in the early days though, and it was just days for my milk. You will need nip cream though!! I remember now being told what mad has said re the 6 weeks.

Eliza you're still hanging on in there too.

I have started loosing all the signs of anything being imminent now, less BHs, less contractions, plenty energy and sleeping well. I think I am going to be in this state for ever and ever!

Hot curry for dinner tonight for everyone is it?

LittlePink · 03/01/2015 16:45

I had to syringe feed dd for the first couple of days with colostrum and top up with formula. Just couldn't get the latch right and after having an emcs I was really worried she wasn't getting enough milk. I've since found out from a bfing support lady I met recently that even just the 0.3ml of colostrum that I was expressing into a syringe would have been enough because the body still knows how much to produce for the baby caesarean or not. 0.3ml still seems such a tiny amount to me though! Dd was so sleepy from all the pethidine I had in labour and then the codeine post section that I used to have to set an alarm every 3 hours in the night for the first couple of weeks to feed her as she just didn't wake!

Same here re the signs. Lost all hope of anything imminent. I'm just telling myself I'm not hugely uncomfortable, I can cope, it's not that bad and I don't care when he comes anymore. I'm finding myself all consumed by when it will be and I'm sure I'm stopping my body. If you're stressed you produce adrenalin which cancels out oxytocin so hence I don't care when anymore, going to relax!

Mads- good idea on the yoga. I went to antenatal yoga but got a bit slack the last couple of weeks doing it at home as mw said baby in good position so didn't bother anymore but now he's turned lateral I need to get him roa again. I've been using my hypnobirthing cd. Put it on for a nap this pm and heard about 2 affirmations then I was out like a light for 2 hrs! Another sweep for me tues too.

Thanks for the answers about the spd. I don't think it's what I've got. Think it's just head pressing down on nerves. Hope it eases off for everyone. Sounds very uncomfortable.

Chiuri- hope you don't go into labour while dh is oncall! If you did hopefully they would draft someone in to take over. Hopefully he's got a nice colleague whose promised to step in if needed though!

HenriettaTurkey · 03/01/2015 18:09

So it's not just me the hypnobirthing cd sends to sleep! Wonder if it sinks in when I'm out for the count...?

Thanks Little, I hope so too! We do have a backup plan if I do, though, so it's not the end of the world. I don't think it'll happen tonight, however, as I've had not even a convincing twinge today Sad.

Elizadoesdolittle · 03/01/2015 20:40

Yep hula still hanging on in there.

Went out to lunch today and had a bit of a walk. over lunch I could have actually forgotten I was pregnant. Until I stood up of course!

I have to remember that initially I was happy to go overdue as I wanted baby's birthday to be further from Christmas but am so over waiting now. Plus it's DD1'S birthday on 15th Jan so don't want it too near that. I'm a fussy bugger Grin
