I find the weight gain really hard, psychologically, too. I know I have to gain weight, but, well, I find it depressing. Particularly at this stage of pregnancy where people still think I'm fat, rather than pregnant. I've put on about 5kg so far which is in line with last time and in line with European advice. The UK is one of the few countries not to specify what a reasonable weight gain is, whereas Spain, France and Germany all suggest 10-12 kg for a normal weight person is about right. I put on 11 kg last time but I didn't have the distraction of unfinished toddler meals!! Really don't want to end up with loads to lose afterwards so trying to be reasonable and reach for pitta and houmous rather than biscuits if hungry. Theoretically we aren't supposed to need any extra calories until the third trimester and then only 200 (less than three bananas) but I feel hungrier than that. This is the advice that I read

londonlivvy · 10/11/2014 21:47

Great minds think alike Squatting. depressing, isn't it???

well done you on finding the energy to run a lot. I'm struggling to exercise with the same intensity and enthusiasm. I feel like I'm perpetually knackered! Plus v sore sacroiliac joints at the mo

cinnamongreyhound · 10/11/2014 21:53

My pace has slowed and I've cut my long Sunday run but I have friends who still run with me which keeps me motivated and I do parkrun Saturday where I'm no where near the slowest so that's fine :)

I feel the same londonlivvy about weight gain, having lost so much weight and keeping it off for 2 and a bit years I am self conscious. Loads of people have basically said that I've wasted my time losing weight now I'm pregnant. It took me a long time to get used to my thinner self (saggy skin included!) and I don't really like it changing!

londonlivvy · 10/11/2014 22:11

oh and brixtonbunny I got to 32J last time but my sister got to 34K. Apparently they go up as far as M I think!!! oddly, this time (so far) I've only gone up two sizes. Does this mean it's a boy?

RiverRocks · 10/11/2014 22:24

Interesting thought londonlivvy, mine haven't grown that much and I'm having a boy.

Congratulations Siarie and roastpots on your girls!

I read somewhere we're supposed to have the equivalent of a buttered slice of brown toast a day extra in the last trimester. Pah - I've eaten ridiculous amounts of bread and junk the last few months just to try and keep my nausea at bay. I'm finding pregnancy is something to survive rather than enjoy, and if I feel like eating a massive 300g share bag of m&ms I'd like to see who's going to try and stop me!

I'm eating a lot more calories than pre-pregnancy but haven't put on that much - certainly not as much as if I had eaten like this then.

FreedomHuntress · 10/11/2014 22:30

This must be the most girl-heavy thread on MN, ever! And I mean baby girls, not you lot eating too much! :)
Congratulations Siarie and roastpots.

ChickenMe · 11/11/2014 07:08

Good morning. It's starting to get a bit chilly. Hope my lovely parka doesn't become too tight but I think it will Sad. It's galling to think of having to buy a huge coat for just a few months!
Regarding weight gain, I am all stomach but it's amazing to actually have boobs! I was an A/B before. Do they stay?
My parents have offered to pay for the buggy which is fab cos I really wanted a Bugaboo Bee but felt a bit guilty about the price! Yay!

Congrats on the girls siarie and roastpots!

I'm still away on holiday so not sure how much weight I've put on.. It was only about 2-3lbs when we left 10 days ago so interested to see what I weigh when I get back! Hopefully not too much.

I thought I felt movement last night when I was lying down - felt like a goldfish turning over in my uterus, but stopped before I could pay proper attention to it and I haven't felt it since. Hope I feel proper movements soon! Scan is ages away so need something to keep me going!

17+1

londonlivvy · 11/11/2014 08:18

chicken I just bought a quilted coat from H&M for 25 quid which seems like a reasonable deal for six months. They also sell pretty well on ebay if you're organised and sell it next Autumn. Or just buy one on ebay now. I think though that if you're going to buy a coat, it's better to buy one this side of Xmas as by January they'll just have bikinis in the shops!

By the way, has anyone seen any thick cardis for sale? I'm looking for one and they all seem flimsy.

TinyTear · 11/11/2014 08:33

yay more girls

Siarie · 11/11/2014 08:33

I have a big woolen poncho which will do as a coat so I don't think I'll bother buying one!

Hidingthefear · 11/11/2014 08:34

oh no squatting i eat an extra 200 than i should anyway!!
haha, I was told to expect to gain 1-2lbs per week until 40 weeks! that's a lot of extra weight :(
I find it hard too londonlivvy might feel better once it's a proper bump and not just a belly that looks like i ate all the pies! I am quiet weight concious as all of my side of the family are overweight (and by quite a lot) and it's always been on my mind to not allow that to happen to myself so gaining wait, although for a good cause is difficult psychologically.
my scales no longer have a battery in which might be a good thing so i'll just check when I see the MW.

cant remember who said about the envelope for christmas day with the sex on but that's what i'm considering doing, sounds like a bril idea. I bet it made it a christmas to remember!

BrixtonBunny · 11/11/2014 08:54

LondonLivvy I've got a couple of oversized thick lambswool cardis from Cos. They're not the cheapest (mine were around £60/70) but are warm and well made, and will definitely last me until due date!

(They're not maternity ones so I'll still be wearing them after baby too - I've had one if them for a year and wear it loads)

Sat on the tube next to someone who was nearly 19w and her friend gave me a seat.

She is also having a girl and also did the Harmony at the FMC... 'Fess up, which one of you did I meet today? Grin

Lauren82000 · 11/11/2014 10:03

Banana thats the kind of feeling I've been getting every now and again, most of the time I just become aware of my bump if that makes sense it must be really subtle movement that I am subconsciously aware of and it draws part of my attention to the baby, but then it's over and I don't feel anything else. Even if I do all the things your supposed to do to encourage movement I never get any if I'm concentrating on it. I'm hoping that will come later when the baby is a bit bigger.
Definitely got a prominent little bump now just need the wiggly kicks to go with it. Smile

ChickenMe · 11/11/2014 10:22

I will look at H&M coat thanks londonlivvy. I like their stuff.
I find I am waking up once an hour in the night to pee. Anyone else? Consequently I'm v tired! And at about 3am every day the cat gets up and has a snack Hmm

londonlivvy · 11/11/2014 14:22

Thanks for the tip, brixton but I prefer maternity stuff as otherwise I just look fat (at nine months preg, in my mums coat, someone didn't believe I was preg. Woe!) but problem potentially solved as got chatting to another mum I know at playgroup this morning and she said she probably had a couple in the attic I could borrow.

FreedomHuntress · 11/11/2014 14:33

I'm hoping to do without a special maternity coat, I'm the end of April and barely showing, so possibly I can get through the winter feeling compact, and make do in my normal coats. Else, I'll buy as and when I need one.

Had my 16w checkup today, mw lovely. Heard heartbeat. Quick appointment, was out in 15 minutes.

Kelbells · 11/11/2014 15:34

Just adding to the stats ladies.... Another girl! I have a DS already so am super happy - as isDH as it means we'll be having 2 not 3 -or so he thinks!
Feeling some movement here too at 16+3, feels like gentle tapping (with my DS it felt like being gently stroked at first so wasn't sure immediately!)
Looks like I'll be needing a cervical stitch Hmm... Was hoping I wouldn't need one as it all looked great 2 weeks ago - sadly, yesterday it had all gone horribly wrong Confused... Meeting my consultant Thursday to decide!

FreedomHuntress · 11/11/2014 16:03

Congratulations, Kelbells!
I believe I am feeling movement too (16+1 today), and think I have for a couple of weeks, especially when we are in the bath.
MW said baby was busy wriggling about at today's heartbeat check, and she was wriggling away at my 12-week scan too, so I think I have an energetic bundle in there!
Have you got names in mind?

Sorry to hear about the stitch, that does not sound pleasant.

londonlivvy · 11/11/2014 16:52

I'm sorry to hear about the stitch kelbells. Have they decided what type? As I recall (there was a risk of this last time for me) there are quite a few options with pros and cons of each. Might be worth a read if you have time. anyway, commiserations. I know it's not ideal. But on the plus side, you'll only have to be preg til 37 weeks and no one wants the last three weeks of pregnancy!

RiverRocks · 11/11/2014 17:07

Sorry about your stitch Kelbells, but congratulations on your little girl! We should update our stats thread, those of us who are finding out.

I'm a bit miserable; had toothache last night, went to dentist this afternoon as I had an infection earlier this year that was horrendous and prevented me eating for over a week. Another infection, so I get antibiotics and to go back for a root canal. Bless the dentist, she seemed to think she was doing me a favour which I suppose she is if it stops the pain.

The dentist and pharmacist both thought I'd be okay with amoxicillin, and I've done some reading and it seems to be one of the safer ones, just in case anyone else is prescribed them.

And as I walked past my GP they had a walk in flu clinic on. I hate needles, but DH has had flu nearly every year since we've been together, including swine flu twice, (perk of working for the NHS) so figured I would bite the bullet. Then bought myself some Ben & Jerrys on the way home to cheer me up, and hid upstairs to eat it... DH isn't home - I was hiding from the cat! Grin
