Congrats to all! Lots of babies!

Thanks for reassurance goats, had growth scan and all was fine. Actually measuring slightly over dates, but well down in the pelvis, which accounts for bump not getting bigger.

Just wanted to say goats, I really admire you for standing your ground and not being bullied into induction. It's hard with your first, as it's so easy for then to terrify you into doing things you don't want. I'm sure it won't be long now!

FlipFantasia · 10/10/2014 10:58

Stigz wow! Congratulations! I can't wait to hear how she arrived. Hope you're both ok.

Mum2 hope all is OK.

Magic hope they fit you in today. I would find it hard to deal with waiting!

Fatpony hope the c section is going (went?) ok?!

Goats hope the monitoring is grand.

After my emotional breakdowns yesterday I have insisted DH do the preschool run, work from home in the morning and head into Manhattan in the afternoon. I'm in hermit mode! Did have a better night sleep though...

clops2000 · 10/10/2014 11:02

Congratulations to everyone who has their little ones with them, can't believe how fast things are happening on here!
Just been to the midwife for appt at 41+1. Had planned to go in and have exam but not sweep, just to see how things were progressing. She advised against exam if not having sweep so i've come home with nothing. I thought i could have sweep next week instead but i now need to have hospital appt with consultant next week as i'll be 41+6 and so need to go down the 'naughty girl refusing induction' route! Ended up in tears as I just don't know what to do. As we're doing hypnobirthing and wanting homebirth i want everything to be as natural as possible, but know the MW thought I should have the sweep to avoid the hospital route if possible.
The other thing is that as we used ovulation sticks and I'd tracked my cycle for a few months before we started trying, my original date was this sunday and the scan date brought us forward 10 days! So really I'm only 39+5 if I stick to that. Feel like they've stolen 10 days of waiting from us with their guesswork :(
Admire your perseverence goats, I need to draw on that. MW has said I can go back in this afternoon for the sweep and I'm thinking that's probably the best option for ensuring I get my homebirth and I don't have to be 'swept' by a consultant i've never met before. Any thoughts from the wise MNers? x

ohthegoats · 10/10/2014 11:24

Monitoring all fine. Pressure is on for induction. At the moment only appointment is tomorrow or next Saturday. Haha. So, am off up to the mlu to get checked for the sweep option again. Apparently they'll be able to do a 'proper job with gas and air if you want'. Sounds nice doesn't it. Not. Anyway, will do to show willing. Then make appointment for induction tomorrow, then go home, call and cancel.

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 10/10/2014 11:57

clops depends on what sort of person you are. If you have a strong instinct that you are doing the right thing for you and your baby, then stand up for that - but you need to be able to put the contradictory opinions out of your head and not let them cause you stress. I'm married to a dr - they have to develop the knack of sounding supremely convinced that what they are saying is the only "correct" way to view a situation as that is the most reassuring thing for most patients in most situations. They are also under pressure to conform to guidelines and meet certain targets, even when these have little relevance in an individual case. But as I said, you need to be convinced in your own decision, not second-guessing yourself or you'll put yourself under too much stress. (I'll cross my fingers that everything starts naturally for you asap!)

pebble82 · 10/10/2014 12:47

I'm off out this afternoon to Mothercare in the hope to just make time pass quicker than sitting on the sofa watching Judge Judy! When I'm there I plan on getting a baby monitor. What does everyone recommend?

mum2kiss · 10/10/2014 13:20

Yep I'm ok...just waiting...nothing much happening...had one cramp earlier that I'd describe as a contraction. Apart from that just mild cramping but nothing regular :( bored now!

Pregnantagain7 · 10/10/2014 13:42

Wow congratulations stigz I bet that was a surprise!
Congratulations crumble love the name
dogs I hope things are going well for you

I've been in triage this morning had the most horrific pain down the left hand side of bump this morning made me scream. Midwife thought maybe muscular and doctor that maybe bowel related either way they are happy with me.

Contractions really got going last night got to seven minutes apart went to bed at midnight and everything stopped. They have started again this morn and are about 8 mins apart midwife has ordered me to bounce on a ball to get baby's head to come lower onto cervix. This has been going on since Monday now with the contractions getting a bit stronger each time. I am going to try and get a bit of sleep first as I can hardly keep my eyes open then will be bouncing away :)
Does this baby not realise it's number four surely I should just sneeze and it flies out?
Have just had another sweep (I actually feel like a chimney now, 3 in 5 days!) good luck to everyone labouring, c sectioning or being induced today :)

magichandles · 10/10/2014 13:59

Well, now got as fa as the hospital, still no room on the labour ward but waiting to be monitored on the assessment unit when they have room! Have been assured I will be induced today still, but I'm not so sure!

ohthegoats · 10/10/2014 14:04

Well, the midwives on the delivery suite did a massive stretch and sweep - am 3cm dilated already, so hopefully it's kicked things off. Fucking hurts now, so if it doesn't then I hope it doesn't hurt for too long - don't want to waste the time I've got left feeling rancid. Will spend the afternoon on my hands and knees in front of the telly with a bowl of chocolate and some painkillers.

She did say though that if they had to induce me now, they wouldn't need the gel starter and would be able to go straight to breaking my waters. Which I suppose is a 'good' thing.

I'm going to call tonight and cancel the induction slot tomorrow whatever happens - delivery suite have my number to give me a call back with a possible appointment for Tuesday or Wednesday. At that point I might feel more inclined to take it up. For now though, the sweep will do. Maybe another one on Monday.

Shirehobbit · 10/10/2014 14:11

goats - you sound loads more positive with this plan in place and the sweep seems to reinforce that you're making the right decisions - it can't be too far off, now. Fingers crossed!

YellowWellies · 10/10/2014 14:15

Goats good luck that sounds like a plan. You're only 1cm away from active labour!

puppythedog · 10/10/2014 14:16

Mrsthedog is sleeping for the first time since 5am yesterday morning thanks to the epidural which went in forty-five minutes ago. Things are progressing but slowly. I'm commenting in FB when I can be arsed with Mrsthedog's permission.
She'd been contracting 3 or 4 times in ten minutes for more than 12 hours with little progress.
She is the most amazing person I know and I lover her very much.
I'm going to have to leaver her here tonight because once baby is born she will have to go to the ward and I can'tHmm it's something we really didn't want but we promised ourselves we would go with the flow and trust ourselves so that's that. Love to all and congrats to newborns Grin

FlipFantasia · 10/10/2014 14:18

Goats 3cm is fantastic! Your body's been doing the latent labour stuff and I'll keep my fingers crossed kidgoat is here soon!

Clops I think Frau puts things well. The dates discrepancy would worry me - it is so big that agreeing to sweeps etc may be disheartening (eg cervix 'unfavourable' but really actually a normal cervix for your dates iykwim?). If you're confident then go for expectant monitoring and let baby come when he/she is ready...

Mum2 hope things pick up! It's exciting to think there could be another baby soon (they're coming thick and fast now!),

ohthegoats · 10/10/2014 14:19

I'm going to have to leaver her here tonight

This is such a nuts system isn't it. The one time you both need to be together as a new family, when both the adults are on a really steep learning curve and should probably learn together.. and they split you up. Straight away the mother is ahead in the 'learning curve' despite not really needing to be. Silly.

FlipFantasia · 10/10/2014 14:20

Puppy glad MrsD is resting thanks to the lovely epidural. Try to rest yourself too. She (and baby!) will be needing you soon!

puppythedog · 10/10/2014 14:38

Wouldn't be needing to leave her if it hadn't been for such a complex labour/birth.

I agree about unhelpful ness of being separated but with a lot of experience in NHS and with current finances I can't see how it can be updated without losing another service somewhere else. In the future things will be different if NHS survives. Until then we could not have had better care and all we have NEEDED has been provided. Me staying too would be preferable but not needed.
Haven't got baby yet and already feeling emotional.

ohthegoats · 10/10/2014 14:50

Oh I'm not blaming the NHS - the system has been a major part of western approaches to childbirth for years, it's just a bit odd when you think about it.

I think 'emotional' pretty much sums everyone on here up right now!

sazzlehopes · 10/10/2014 15:05

clops according to the scan due date my boy was a week late. But my dates say labour started on the 'right' day and he was born 45 mins over his/my due date. We were ttc for 14 months so I was tracking everything. Go with what makes you feel better.

goats prob a good sign it hurt. My first sweep didn't and my second did. Had the sweep at 1ish, felt a bit achy and painful after and waters went at 6pm and contractions kicked off very strong at half 6! Good luck!

Congrats to all the other babies! Such lovely news to read.

We are still in hospital but hoping to go home tomorrow. Baby Ned is BF really well and they are pleased with him so have taken out the tube feed. Hoping to get MRI results later on. I feel he's fine though, mummy knows best!

cabster · 10/10/2014 15:19

Congratulations mrsBC and stigz! Snuggles all round.

Midwife this morning didn't have a great deal to say other than everything's looking fine, baby is still 4/5 palpable and if my waters go, to call triage straight away as with excess liquor there's a small chance still of cord prolapse if they go with a gush. Guess I need to start bouncing more vigorously on my ball! Or on DH... No plug yet either. Envy

cabster · 10/10/2014 15:21

Fx sazzle Thanks

Missus2ndwife · 10/10/2014 15:30

So a few weeks ago I was asking about BH (lack there of) and whether not having them was a problem.
Now I'm having loads! Go figure Wink

Has anyone downloaded a labour timer app they can recommend?

hefner · 10/10/2014 15:31

Congratulations ldt, punky, crumble and stigz!. Have I missed any news from MrsB?

For those not on Facebook, my baby was born on Wednesday morning. He was 9lb14, we got home the same day and we're doing well, he's lovely! I'll post about my labour in more detail later in case anyone's interested.

puppythedog · 10/10/2014 15:59

Fingers crossed for you SAZZLE, I look forward to hearing the positive MRI results.

I had other people I wanted to comment to but I can't remember :-) think it's because I've slept too much in the last day and a half.

Back to Harry Potter now. At this rate I won't have to leave mrsthedog behind because baby won't be born in time to send me home Grin

binkybunny · 10/10/2014 16:22

Went to the doctors this morning about a raised and painful vein in my arm (just bruising from flu jab) and he asked if I'd seen the mw for a sweep today.

Erm no, because the mw last week told me they wouldn't do one until 41 weeks! Quite annoyed as I'll only get 1 sweep before induction 5 days later Sad
