My friend didn't feel even a flutter until 24 weeks with any of her children. My cousin was 6 months gone before she even knew she was pregnant....and another friend I went boozing with one week the next she sat in the bath and SAW her belly move....3 days later a scan showed 7 months gone....she had felt nothing until then!

Some babies just loke to chill out I reckon!

suzimagoozi · 29/09/2014 21:49

Awesome reassurance, thanks Memphis! I would kill for some of these swift kicks to the ribs or jumping on bladders that so many of the mums seem to be experiencing right now!

jenmcspen · 29/09/2014 21:52

Think I need to call mw tomorrow to see if my next appt will be cancelled with the strike Sad

Grinningcat · 29/09/2014 22:21

Turns out my DH's rubbish boss won't let him have the time off to come to the 20 week scan next week. DH wants MIL to come in his place so I won't be alone. I'm not sure. I get on really well with MIL and we will probably have a private scan later so DH can see baby again and we will invite the grandparents to that one as well. But with this scan I can't help but feel that if DH can't be there to share the moment then I am okay to go by myself, but it's too private a thing to have MIL there. My DM died 10 years ago or I'd have had her there in a heartbeat. For those of you who have had your scans already, did you feel you had to have someone with you in case something was wrong, or would you have been happy to go by yourself?

Memphisbelly · 29/09/2014 22:32

Grinning not someone for support just to share it with, for 20 weeker I would have taken a friend if dh couldn't have gone.
The sonographers do go quiet for a bit but will chat to you.

My friend went to her 20 week scan alone as she felt the same as you her dh couldn't go and didn't want to share it with other people.
BTW his bosses sound like arseholes. How do you think they will be about paternity leave?

Which reminds me I best remind dh to do whatever he has to do about applying for paternity pay (it is 25 weeks as deadline isn't it?)

Grinningcat · 29/09/2014 22:42

Thanks. I guess I will want to gush about it afterwards.

Yes 25 weeks is the deadline. His boss will be an arse about paternity leave but I will be as well if he doesn't take at least 1week. Poor DH Smile. He is entitled to paternity and if his boss refuses he has no reasonable grounds for doing so, and we will have to escalate. DH wants to leave anyway.

thingsarelookingup · 30/09/2014 05:36

That is rubbish about your dh's boss grinning. I think my work would be the same if it wasn't for the fact that I'm hard to replace so they can't afford to piss me off. Nothing to do with common human decency.

Bangonthedoor · 30/09/2014 06:15

Sorry to hear your DH can't come to the scan grinning why are bosses such arseholes sometimes?!

I personally would have been ok going on my own if DP couldn't come, it's not something I feel I would need that extra support for. But I really understand why others would.

DP took 2 weeks holiday last time instead of paternity which was a shame really as he could have had both but he didn't want to lose money which I understand. I might suggest to him this time that he takes 1 week paternity and 1 week holiday.

Memphisbelly · 30/09/2014 07:43

Bangon that is what dh will do, one week holiday and one patermity so he doesn't hsve an utterly crap pay for that month.

BanglesSpangles · 30/09/2014 08:06

Morning all
Grinning- i think i would be ok with going on my own to scans, if the OH couldnt- i'd be a bit sad about it, but def feel like this pregnancy is a 'me and him' thing rather than 'me him and everyone else'

Re paternity leave, DH is vaguely planning on changing jobs and going to work for his dad's business- trying to tie up the loose ends at the mo, but it does mean leave is all a bit up in the air at the mo

donkir · 30/09/2014 09:24

My oh is self employed and in feb will only work weekends and the half term. I'm praying it snows in half term so that his work won't need him. Money's going to be very tight anyway.

freneticfox · 30/09/2014 09:38

Memphis I go to Calmababy in Peterborough, they have quite a lot of classes in the evening, I think with working women in mind!

Is anyone else suffering with headaches at the moment? I'm usually prone to the odd tension headache, but they seem to be every day the past week or so. They usually go after I've had a nap, but being at work makes this quite difficult at times. I have a 4Head stick which helps a bit, but it's becoming quite annoying!

I'm baaack! Just spent 2 lovely weeks in Italy (our last holiday as a couple for quite a while I think!
Didn't have the blues when we arrived home because we had our anomaly scan yesterday! It was magical, we couldn't believe how detailed and clear it was. They even emailed me a little video of baby drinking the amniotic fluid and you can see the little tongue moving and everything. I welled up!

We also found out that little pickle is a GIRL! Totally in love with her already.

Glad to read back and see that you are all well and there are lots of kicks and wriggles being felt!

hanflan · 30/09/2014 12:21

Oh and my right boob leaked last night Hmm was not expecting that so early! Was a lot more watery than I would have thought. Might have to start sleeping in a soft bra and breast pads!

BanglesSpangles · 30/09/2014 12:55

aah lovely stuff- trying to balance the current gender imbalance, han!

Where in Italy did you go? We went to Sorrento in the summer- loved it!- I'd never been to Italy before that, but would love to see some more parts

BanglesSpangles · 30/09/2014 12:58

frenetic- on headaches, not so much, but I'm definitely getting shoulder pain from sitting differently at my desk- remember DH's sister getting horror headaches when she was pg that were apparently for the same reason- she had a couple of neck and shoulder massages that cleared them right up

freneticfox · 30/09/2014 13:00

I have weekly shoulder massages because I have issues with tension, might have to ask for some more, uhm, vigorous attention! It doesn't help that I'm sleeping a bit propped up at night to help curb nausea and as a sleep-fidget, I wake up with my neck in all sorts of weird positions.

hanflan, so pleased your scan went well, congrats on your baby girl! I loved every minute of my scan last week, I want to do it again. And again.

bangles yep we were in Sorrento! Fell in love with the place, really want to go back. Also went to Rome for three days which was cool to see all the cultural bits but was just so busy and huge which considering I'm a Londoner, it's a bit weird that it bothered me haha!

Bimberley · 30/09/2014 13:52

Hanflan congratulations on scan and baby girl!!

hanflan · 30/09/2014 13:52

Thanks frenetic and bimberley :D

BanglesSpangles · 30/09/2014 13:54

ooh it's gorge, isn't it- ridiculously hilly though! I did SO much walking on that holiday (ate plenty of gelato to make up for it!). We did a day in naples on the way through to do a bit of city stuff which was lovely too

I shall remember it fondly as I found out I was preggers the day we came home- probably will be our last 'proper' holiday just the two of us for quite a while!

L1ttleMissGiggles · 30/09/2014 15:53

Afternoon Ladies....so I had 20 week scan today. I have a very naughty baby that has been on its head all morning. No amount of jumping up and down, coffee and chocolate, a walk or cold water would make the little monkey move so they could do final checks. Hospital were very accommodating and sent me away and tried 3 times but now have to go back again sometime in the next 2 weeks. Everything that they could check was all ok, so at least that's a bit of relief and at least I will get to see the bubba again soon. Not finding out what colour it is, we want to have a surprise! Also think I might of felt first movements last night, hoping that I will feel the same again tonight to confirm! Hope everyone else is having a good day! Congrats on the girl Hanflan. x

hanflan · 30/09/2014 15:59

Haha what a little minx/rascal you have on your hands littlemiss! Hopefully baby behaves next time you go in haha

Memphisbelly · 30/09/2014 17:38

Little haha what a monkey sounds more i,possible that my 20 week scan all he did for that was wiggle his willy about for her, scrstch his bum and pout.....all while concealing his heart, spine etc!

Hanflan.....a girl! Congrats. The girls are catching up!

I had a customer (who I have own since I first worked there at 15 yo) proper rub my belly like she was rubbing cream in or something....my mum walked off laughing as apparently my face was a picture!

Baby has kicked away all day, I love it when I am lying down but when on my feet as he is so low I really hate the sensation of him kicking. Dh is away still, my cleaning can wait until tomorrow so I am having a bath with a magazine tonight I am too shattered!

Also living off freezer teas this week as we need to get the freezer down a bit so I can de ice it

GeekyHybrid · 30/09/2014 18:02

Lovely to hear about the scans hanflan and littlemiss. Took 3 attempts to get mine to move though I was calling it stronger things than little monkey! Especially yesterday when it was pressing down so hard on front lower part of my belly Thai it hurt and I couldn't stand up straight. For most of the day. Luckily today it's behaved a bit better though why when it's now for so much room it has to squish itself and squeeze down there I do not know! I do hope it gets more cooperative once it's out. Right, must get myself moving, catch you all later.
