we had a brilliant girls name, that im still not going to tell anyone about on the off chance that we have a girl somewhere down the line and by then it's become popular because i happen to have mentioned it in passing to someone (it didn't make the top 1000 last year, but sods law dictates that it will zoom to number 1 if i think about it too much)

And have two ideas for boys, neither of which we're set on. Colloquially the baby is called Elvis. We told the PIL's yesterday that it was something that we would consider and i could see them doing 'oh my god, oh my god' faces. Teehee. As much as I like it, I don't think I could call the baby Elvis

donkir · 29/09/2014 16:56

With names first time around I'd picked Joshua right from the moment we found out. Ex mil decided she was going to buy a toy which happened to be named josh. Normally wouldn't have bothered me but she went against my wishes and got it before 12 weeks. As protest I changed ds name when he was born. Even 12 years on she hasn't forgiven me.
This time around were struggling. Dp is Marvel/Dc mad and likes Logan (after Wolverine) I'm not so sure even though I like it. My step brother (who I don't and won't ever see) had a still born son who they called Logan.

Memphisbelly · 29/09/2014 16:59

Years ago I loved Evie for a girl then by the time I was pg Evie was everywhere here (still love it) then with ds we had one girls name....Eden...now I know of 4 of them and with this baby I was set on Noa.....boys names I really am stuck I still adore Our ds's name and cannot see me loving another name that much (although everyone assures me one will appear!)
I love Quinn but with a Q surname its a no...this is our problem the surname ruins so many names

Memphisbelly · 29/09/2014 17:01

Donkir I love Logan and am also a Marvel geek but dh said no as my mum moved to Logan street Grin

JacktheLab · 29/09/2014 17:49

Hi all

Back from our weekend away getting a cheeky takeaway as Icahn be bothered cooking!

Plenty of squirming here, I'm just frustrated that we are only half way there, I want the baby out already!!!!

Just ransacked the sales rack at boots for clothes for both boys and girls clothes, I'm a bit of a sales tart Wink

Memphisbelly · 29/09/2014 17:51

Jack me too.....I will be there in days after xmas bashing people out the way with my bump to get the bargains!

Surf25 · 29/09/2014 18:31

Struggling a little with names here too. Sorted for a name for a boy, so that's a start. Another girl's name is proving more difficult! I am between two, and dh has two, one of the names overlaps but I prefer a shortened version and he prefers a longer version. To complicate matters more, it was the name we were going to have had for dd2 but we changed our minds on the due date!! Hmm.... We have never told anyone. Didn't want to deal with the meh and negative responses I have seen people get when they say their chosen name. IME people are less likely to be rude once the name belongs to a baby on the outside! Just a personal thing though and can be difficult to keep it a secret especially when people try to trick you!!!

Memphisbelly · 29/09/2014 18:48

Surf I agree about the telling people before baby is here I said a name to my mil (Stanley) not because I will use it but to see her reaction. She went ugh it will just be called 'stan' I said no it wouldn't, our neice is Madison and mil tried calling her maddie a few times and was told she calls her her full name or doesn't visit anymore Grin that stopped hat happened. (Nothing wrong with Maddie but sil didn't want it shortened and it never has been.

I like Sid and Sidney but don't really like shortening names but may be swayed on this one name.
Mil also likes Frankie (I know several and 2 of our good friends kids are called this) she also likes Charlie but my good friends son is Charlie and so is mums dogGrin

I also shamefully said to her 'well you had your chance to name your kids and didn't pick great names' GrinShock

Surf25 · 29/09/2014 19:11

I like it Memphis! Good thinking to have a 'trial run' of a name to see what the reaction would be! And you're so right, most people who make comments have had their chance to choose names!! Surely picking different names from each other for our children is one of the wonderful ways to express that we are all different and have different likes and dislikes!!

Memphisbelly · 29/09/2014 19:20

Yes I find give a name to people to see their reaction....give them 3 even (I go for names I like but for various reasons cannot use) then it normally shows what their reaction is to most names.

My mums the best person as I ask for her opinion amd she won't say she hates something but she will say she isn't keen.....but then adds it isn't her choice and the baby evolves into that name.

My aunt had a good rule of thumb with names would it be ok if they became a solicitor or if they worked in the post office...it needs to suit both as we don't know what our kids become Grin

longbottom · 29/09/2014 19:55

One week tomorrow until scan! Cannot wait, think I've felt a few kicks, DD thinks she has but I'm not sure!
I'm jealous of all your shopping! DP wants to wait until after scan and has commission due end of October!

Bangonthedoor · 29/09/2014 20:06

Love the name chat! Previously we had decided on our boys name but had a few possibilities for a girl. When DD was born none of the girls names suited her so we finally chose something else when DD was 3 weeks old! Blush

This time round we have several ok suggestions so far Smile

Had baby news yesterday AND today of 2 friends having their babies Smile all this baby news makes me want mine now!

Had a bit of a down afternoon, sorry to share but I need to get it out. I was on such a high after my friend text me pictures of her newborn baby then my next door neighbour popped round with her daughter who is only 6 who is really poorly with cancer. She has no hair and tubes in her nose and it made me so sad. Why things like that happen to little innocent children Sad

BanglesSpangles · 29/09/2014 20:11

Haha - memphis, sidney is one of my two on my list!

Memphisbelly · 29/09/2014 20:20

Bangon that is so sad. My last dp was like that at 7 years old and survived against the odds, so sad and worse on the emotions when pregnant I think Sad

Bangles I love it also love it for a girl too! (With a Y)

For those on baby number 2+ we got given a lovely book today called 'there's a house in my mummy' ds loved it so much I had to read it twice.....the only problem it ends with the line 'there's mo-one in her tummy now until she makes another' making ds say 'can it be twins next mummy?' Had to explain quickly that mummy cannot have any more in her tummy after this one Grin

Bangonthedoor · 29/09/2014 20:26

Thanks for the book tip memphis I'll check it out!

suzimagoozi · 29/09/2014 20:32

Is anyone else watching Panorama - 'Born Asleep' tonight? I know I really shouldn't as I'll just freak myself out but can't stop myself...

Memphisbelly · 29/09/2014 20:37

Suzi yes I have it on.....not sure I should be watching it.

Bangonthedoor · 29/09/2014 20:44

I've changed over. I can't watch it

Grinningcat · 29/09/2014 20:57

DH has banned me from watching it.

Memphisbelly · 29/09/2014 21:06

It wasn't too bad.

suzimagoozi · 29/09/2014 21:12

Oh, God! I'm desperate for a private doppler scan now after watching that! I'm 22+4, NO movements at all (due to anterior placenta), hardly noticeable bump and measured on the small side of normal range at 20 week scan (DH and I are both 5"10 so I'm not expecting a small baby!). Heard heartbeat last week at GPs but am so worried that my placenta is not functioning normally. DH has been o/s for work going on 2 weeks. I may start hyperventilating soon...

freneticfox · 29/09/2014 21:12

Evening all, just had my second aqua yoga session, little bean loved it, he was wriggling up a storm!

On the topic of names, we're adding names we like to a list with the view to shorten it by the time Feb comes around...

Memphisbelly · 29/09/2014 21:21

Suzi if you are worried remember you can call your mw.
I will be having scans from 32 weeks due to them thinking my placenta posibly wont last the 9 months.

Memphisbelly · 29/09/2014 21:27

Frenetic I really would like to do aqua yoga Sad

suzimagoozi · 29/09/2014 21:29

Thanks Memphis. I'm working from home on Wed so might phone mw then so that I can come in if they recommend it. Not sure whether I'll tell DH in advance as he will either freak out or think I'm being silly. Work keeps me very busy during the day so evenings is the only time to sit down and really notice the complete lack of anything pregnancy related happening down there!
