I have a question.

I'm a bit worried that the baby has gone breech again. At the moment the majority of movement is bottom left hand side, and there is a quite hard lump on the front wall of my bump on the top right hand side. Movements under my ribs aren't 'kicks' anymore.

Without going to a midwife or a doctor (I have a consultant appointment on Tuesday), is there any trick sort of way that I can tell for myself?

ohthegoats · 18/09/2014 17:45

Oh and bump clearly lopsided - bulge on top right hand side. BUT, I have an anterior high placenta that apparently is on the top right hand side too - would that cause a bulge?

Panic. 39 weeks is late to be breech and get away with it right?

tak1ngchances · 18/09/2014 17:48

I have a huge bulge under my right ribcage and it's the baby's bum.
I think it's v hard to tell...even midwives get it wrong don't they. Do your spinning baby things and see how you go

FlipFantasia · 18/09/2014 17:51

Goats check out spinning babies/bellymapping. My (formerly breech) baby is head low, back along my left side (LOA in bellymapping terms) and I feel movement down low (hands, elbows - sometimes comedy excruciating!) and kind of middle, upper mid/right side (bum feels quite big and round). Movements are more rolls/flexes than the alien jabs of precious weeks. You can also try to feel for a round head low down (different from round bum, where you can try to feel thighs coming off). Lie down for all this btw - bump feels totally different when I'm standing!

ohthegoats · 18/09/2014 17:51

OK phew, that's good to hear. It's the change in movements that scared me a bit too. All last night in bed getting kicked in the left hand side of my bump, with pushing feeling on right hand side... dreams about it being transverse (impossible, bump not that shape).

mrsb87 · 18/09/2014 17:55

Goats I get a lot of pushing down low around my pelvis and babyB likes to poke it's bum out resulting in a huge lump out front! No kicks under my ribs anymore since its dropped down. Anterior placenta too, I'm pretty sure mine isn't breech! I hope that puts your mind at ease a bit.

ohthegoats · 18/09/2014 17:55

Flip - I did the spinning babies stuff between 32 and 36 weeks because the baby was breech until then. That was also why I did all the skirting board stuff - hands and knees for a fortnight. It definitely worked (or at least the baby turned, might have done it anyway I guess). Last midwife listened to heartbeat quite high up, but 'thought' the baby's head was down. She tried to show me how to feel the head, but I didn't get it. I've carried on with the spinning babies stuff though - no reclining EVER!

Anyway, I've just spent 3 hours on the phone with mortgage people, I'm knackered... going to place myself on the sofa with telly and knitting. NOT in a reclined position! Knees down like a good girl.

STIGZ · 18/09/2014 18:10

goats my midwife says the head feels like "a lollipop on a stick" which is always on my left hand side and sometimes a big lump appears which extends over my ribs, get mahoosive kicks into pelvic area and her hiccups are felt just above pubic my bone, only little movements at belly button which i assume is her hands

Wow cj what a pain in the arse! I would be gutted after all the mental preparation you need to do ... Sorry this is happningSad

ldt87 · 18/09/2014 18:26

me23 I can't call for results until Monday. She really didn't seem concerned at all, she asked what I have been eating and I did own up to some birthday cake binging yesterday! She said as I measure spot on and it's the first time it's probably a glitch caused by diet. I will have to wait and see what they say Monday. Are there symptoms of gd I would notice?

FlipFantasia · 18/09/2014 18:28

The bellymapping stuff is just useful for mapping position/getting to know your bump so to speak. I've not done any actual spinning babies positions since a scan last week confirmed head down (lazy of me!). But was glad of midwife yesterday saying baby was in a good position.

Me23 · 18/09/2014 19:33

flip is spot on with her advice goats! I get very similar movements baby is loa too (better stay there baby)

Supplements for bf most pregnancy vitamins are adequate make sure they have vit d iron and omegas.

Have back ache this evening, upper back has been hurting lately.

kittyvet · 18/09/2014 19:41

Yes goats I was having the same worries this morning as the kicks seem lower but my MW felt me today and told me head down at pelvic brim. Bottom up on R. I have never got baby kicks under the ribs and they are now to the left about halfway down! Baby probably just settling down into position :)

FatFlashingLazer · 18/09/2014 19:51

CJ what a nightmare and massive pain! I hope you get to speak to the consultant and they change their minds about discharge.

Goats my movements and bump shape sounds very similar to yours and I saw midwife yesterday who said head was down and back coming up right side, bum just under ribs.

I'm with you all on the noises and struggles of getting up etc. I've had quite a nice day today though. Had my hair done and been working from home with my feet up. 35 weeks today and only one more work trip to get through.

ohthegoats · 18/09/2014 20:16

Cool, it all sounds like everyone has similar movements without being breech.. less panicky now.

FatFlashingLazer · 18/09/2014 20:51

I meant to say, I really had no idea until these threads that October was such a busy month for babies. I'm starting to panic that the staff/ward will be over stretched. I'm hoping to go to our MLU but there are only 4 rooms so I'm worried about what will happen if they're full. I think I'll chat to my midwife about it at next appt and see what she says. Maybe I'll go 2 weeks over and that will put me into November...is it quieter then??

LondonJen · 18/09/2014 20:54

Thanks ladies, makes me feel a bit less pathetic.

Good to hear re your iron levels me.

Excited I hope you get one person who takes charge of things soon x

Mamami · 18/09/2014 21:09

No Jen. At 37 weeks and am even more knackered than I was at the start. Has got worse since I finished work too. For some reason - sleep more & need more sleep!

Re busy wards. I was born on October 16th back in the 80's and 'busy Christmas fallout' was the first thing my mum warned me about when we got our EDD! Nothing much changes.

Mamami · 18/09/2014 21:47

*36 weeks. (Wishful thinking)

queenasanti3 · 18/09/2014 22:18

Hi, just tagging onto the arrivals list and congratulations to those with arrivals already, also thanks for adding me back onto the list Smile
Iam currently 37 + 3, and have felt terrible all day with a constant headache, to now feeling like I want to be sick, still getting terrible heartburn too Sad, I'm just hoping it was down ti lack if sleep last night and this humid weather x

Bumpforme2014 · 18/09/2014 22:49

I've had a crap day as well, exhausted with chesty cough and also feeling sick queen, pretty sure it's tiredness as haven't slept well all week.

STIGZ · 18/09/2014 23:33

Got butterflies thinking that scotlands future has been decided Shock Want to stay up and watch it live but dont think i'll manage Sad arrghaaa the bloody suspense is killing me !!

binkybunny · 18/09/2014 23:41

I'm sat up watching it stigz as not really feeling sleepy after last night's epic sleep. Not sure I'll make it to 2/3am when they start being declared though. Not feeling excited, just a bit sick with concern!

binkybunny · 18/09/2014 23:59

Maybe I will make 3am, dh is in bed and I can hear him snoring from the sofa Hmm

weeonion · 19/09/2014 00:27

In Glasgow, We have friends round, the kids are bunked down on floors... The grownups are settled in on cushions with whisky and hot chocolate for voting results. Feeling excited, nervous, hopeful and despairing....
