Thought we'd better start a new thread, how many more will we get through before babies arrive??

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SweetPeaPods · 09/09/2014 22:11

Thanks Munday.
The last one didn't last long did it?!
Regarding baby monitors we currently have a Tomy one for ds. Think we might need to get a second one but not sure whether to get a different make or not. Not sure if same make or different make would interfere with each other. Anyone in the know? Video one is tempting.
A few friends put me off the angel care one, as it caused them unnecessary panic. It's not great for travel cots either due to all the leads, so might be worth getting a cheap second one if your likely to be going away soon?

STIGZ · 09/09/2014 22:13

Marking my place .,, got to be babies on this thread ?????

Thanks munday

BadgerInBury · 09/09/2014 22:16

Thanks for the new thread Munday. Can't believe how fast this thread moves!

Just finished watching In The Ckub. Good grief, it's all been terribly dramatic. My poor DP is delighted it's over but I'm going to quite miss our weekly round of Catastrophe Bingo...

Glad your DH has stepped in and sorted your builders out, fedup. Hoping things get easier now and you get some good rest tonight.

SweetPeaPods · 09/09/2014 22:18

Think I missed a bit on last fred, it moved pretty quickly. What happened Fedup?

FlipFantasia · 09/09/2014 22:20

New thread! Marking my place...

On monitors, we've never used them (this will be dc3) and won't bother again.

fedupofrainydays · 09/09/2014 22:29

Just had a nightmare day sweetpea and thought I was going into labour from all the stress. The house is just dangerous for a toddler and me and they are going so slowly and so disrespectful of our house. Ended up with what felt like palpitations and also bad cramps - brought on by the stress.
Hoping tomorrow will be better but not counting on it. Main builder coming round but DH has to go to work at 6 so will be me left to deal with him.
Just need a liveable house back - can't even cook. Only have microwave plugged in to a dirty workshelf.

Thanks for the new thread munday and kind of hope that there aren't any babies on this thread given the speed at which we go through them! It would still be too early!

ldt87 · 09/09/2014 22:31

Hi all, just joining the new thread, missed the last few pages of the last one so need to catch up, reality is setting in knowing how soon these babies will start coming now!

Anyone else still need to pack their hospital bag? I've done babies but need to do my own Smile

YellowWellies · 09/09/2014 22:33

Fed up I hated it when DH were living in our fixer upper wreck and it was just the two of us with ne'er even a belly dweller. And I was doing most of the work. Where's your builder's heart - it must be blatantly obvious how preggers you are Sad . Hope he gets his arse guilted into gear. I'd be wincing and faking a few contractions.

fedupofrainydays · 09/09/2014 22:44

Thanks yellow
Yeah he knows I'm due in next few weeks. It all just goes to pot when he's not here and expects all the other men and tradespeople to do what they are supposed to but they don't. They start something them move on the the next thing before finishing it so everything is just unfinished / a mess. Anyway... Must try and stop stressing as can t be doing me or baby any good.

Hope everyone has a goodnight.

Re monitors - we had the bt one and it was fine, but screen totally gone so will get a new one soonish - probably a video one if can find a good deal

Kirstipops · 09/09/2014 23:03

Eep, I hadn't even thought of baby monitors Confused yet , was I naive to think that baby could just stay downstairs with us in the evenings and then come upstairs when we go to bed? (For the first bit anyway, just thinking that if I'm bf'ing then baby prob won't sleep for particularly long so keeping close in the evening will save me huckling upstairs at each wakeup call! Me = lazy cow) I won't be offended if you all think this is a laughable notion Grin

YellowWellies · 09/09/2014 23:09

Kirsti that's exactly what we did and will do for at least the first 3 months. I just cuddled and BF J on the sofa on an evening whilst he was on cluster feeding mode.

ohthegoats · 09/09/2014 23:25

We've not got one. It'll be down with us in the evening, feeding or sleeping I guess, then come up with us when we go to bed. I have vague notion of doing a bedtime routine after a month or so, but even if that works it'll be sleeping downstairs until we take it to bed. It was the idea of the sleepyhead - can move it around in a thing that fits in a cot but also in a moses basket or on a chair in a darker corner of the living room, hopefully without waking it up. Ha, that's if any of my ideas come to fruition. Just another suck it and see.

ohthegoats · 09/09/2014 23:31

Oh and ridiculous evening... went straight to aqua natal from work, so didn't get in until 9.45. Went to kitchen for dirty scotch egg I've been saving (not eaten since 1, so starving). Get mayo from fridge, drop it and smash it. Bare feet, so glass in feet, mayo/glass combo everywhere. Boyf comes to help, hands me shoes and kitchen roll. Drop kitchen roll so it unrolls all across mayo/glass covered floor. In process of cleaning up, drop scotch egg on floor, then demand boyf's secret chocolate stash, get given tiffin cake, drop it on floor. Special!

cabster · 09/09/2014 23:36

Thanks for the new thread munday!

I'm incubating a mystery man - when I went to the hospital to get my iron levels checked today, I asked the midwife if Boris was still breech. She said "no, he's bum-up" but then called a second midwife. After much palpating they decided that they were undecided so a presentation scan has been booked for Monday! Quite excited about seeing the little Herbert again :)

Nature's way of telling me that I'm not fit to parent: I managed to shut the same cat in 2 different rooms today. For hours. Blush

binkybunny · 09/09/2014 23:59

Goats I was saying to DH how unfair it is that pregnancy makes you so clumsy and drop things when the hardest thing is bending down. I tend to go for the giraffe style of legs wide apart, head first to pick up tissues, teaspoons, phone and everything else I seem to dropping. Thankfully not a glass jar of mayo though (so far!)

CellyD · 10/09/2014 00:12

Sazzle I will be reusing totbots bamboozles. They're great for nights.

We have the angelcare with the sensor mat, it served us well, just remember to turn it off when you lift baby out like yellow advised.

Slide I hope everything's ok and that you don't have to stay in too long.

binkybunny · 10/09/2014 01:45

Nothing like a 2am snack of Nutella on toast Grin

SummerDreams13 · 10/09/2014 04:17

Feel like I've seen in more 4ams in the last few weeks than I've ever seen in my life - even baffling the cats who wake up blinking sleepily before deciding it's worth a punt to try and get breakfast early!

On another note, the midwife says my BP's rising - it's still not high (think something like 133/80) - and not accompanied by any other symptoms, but if it doesn't settle, I might not be able to go to birth centre. She says there's nothing I can do about it, but I wondered if any of you ladies have any tips for lowering or at least stabilising?

ExcitedCJ · 10/09/2014 04:20

binky!!!!! Not a good thing for a recently diagnosed gestational diabetes hormonal pregnant woman to read when she can't sleep at 4am! JEALOUS Envy. I'm ravenous & have been awake for 40 minutes now tossing from side to side.
Thanks for new thread Munday
Talking of monitors I had an Angelcare with sensor pad with DD & loved it. I got a Snuza clip on monitor for DS this time, hope it works & doesn't false alarm too often. I don't rest easy at night unless there is something to monitor breathing. I will do what I did for DD which is the same as Goats & Yellow have suggested, keep bub with me until my bed time & then into the bednest beside the bed, so no real need for anything else until LO is a bit bigger. I have asked my Dad to buy me this monitor as a present - www.naturalbabyshower.co.uk/babymoov-premium-care-baby-monitor.html
I like the sound of it.
Right... Off to try & forget about Nutella on toast & get back to sleep.

ExcitedCJ · 10/09/2014 04:25

Hi Summer I'm sorry to see someone else awake at 4am.
Re your BP, not too much you can do apart from rest plenty & relax. I had PE with my DD and tried everything to keep it down including acupuncture & reflexology & Hypnobirthing.
You could be lucky, BP does rise a little in 3rd trimester but really, really just relax, I continued to buzz about like a woman possessed and did myself no favours.

fedupofrainydays · 10/09/2014 04:31

Been awake since 12.30.
My heart is racing and feel so anxious. As soon as it's 6 I'm getting up and packing. Got to get out this shit hole. Hoping my parents will take me and ds

No real tips re lowering BP - avoiding salt, caffeine and gentle exercise are usually good ways

ExcitedCJ · 10/09/2014 04:39

Fedup sending hugs.
So sorry things are not calm & peaceful at home, you are just right taking yourself out of it. Sounds like your DH may have given them a stand to attention they need to move things on.

SummerDreams13 · 10/09/2014 04:46

Thanks Excited - does the whole taking it slow thing have an effect do you think? I'm still working, which for me could mean eg travelling up to Bradford, back to London, down to the Isle of Wight and back to London in a working week. Keep thinking that level of activity is ok but maybe should be slowing down.

Fedup good point on the caffeine - don't think I take too much, but sometimes tea is the only thing getting me through! And def agree you should go to parents if you can - lying awake with preg discomfort is one thing that can't be controlled, but lying awake fretting is another entirely. Sounds like a bit of parental pampering is just what you need! Grin

kittyvet · 10/09/2014 06:16

Morning everyone! We are all up very early! I hope slide is ok. I too are like a pig yesterday- first day of maternity leave! So glad to hear I am not the only clumsy one! Only prob is with my PGP I am not supposed to widen my legs and my bump to big to bend over with knees together- haven't quite worked out how to pick things up yet :)

kittyvet · 10/09/2014 06:16

Are = ate!!!!
