Not that I profess to have a brain of any sorts but here is a new thread as requested!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Great news on the scan bubba, really pleased for you. Lovely to get such a low risk for downs too.
Glad your date went well to doghouse! I have met quite a few people locally since having ds1 and it is lovely to have friends in the same situation as you.
Nutty, I am nowhere near maternity clothes yet but have a rather ample belly at the best of times so the bean has plenty to grow into first!!!

Greengirlforever · 10/10/2006 16:04

Odd - I've never been booked for GTT and both DS's were well over 9lbs, last one was one ounce shy of 10lbs . Am about 1.5-2 stone overweight. I guess I must have been tested before and not known it!

sallycinnamon · 10/10/2006 16:21

I'm really thrilled for you Bubba- that's fab news! What a relief.
I suddenly feel very pregnant- belly seems to have popped out almost overnight!

emmymummy · 10/10/2006 16:26

Just wanted to say hello all as haven't posted for an age - have just been lurking and reading every so often. So 'hello'

Have been empathising with many of you over the ms and generally feeling down about life. I think it's a combination of things - the ms, the weather, change of season, putting on weight, not fitting into your favourite clothes...etc. There is a big change to life coming up for all of us and it is daunting, and exciting and scarey all at once. I too don't look forward to having to loose all that weight again after the pregnancy, but loose it I will (eventually ).

Finally have scan date for Friday the 13th - not sure if I'm going to be a bit superstitious about that - maybe it'll show that I'm going to give birth to Damien!! .

CornflakeKid · 10/10/2006 16:53

ds2 was 10lbs and I am normally a size 10 - but is was more than that - his head was off the chart and he was 62cm long! They all gasped when he came out (back to back!) He went straight into 3-6 month clothes - so I'm a bit wary about buying any newborn or 0-3 baby clothes - have some cut4cloth which is on bigger size in 0-3 - otherwise plan to buy just plain white babygrows and leave them in the packet until he/she pops out! Most 0-3 months clothes are up to 56cm length and even ds1 was 56cm when born - I was wondering whether they would scan me later on to measure baby as well as diabetes test. Not even sure what a GTT involves - is it just a blood test???

Fish fingers are ready!

bubbaOOOOOOO · 10/10/2006 17:31

Ouch at 10lb's.Ds was also back to back but he sounds tiny in comparison.

GGF-You would've known if they tested you for GTT,as you have to starve from the night before, then you have a blood test done, then about 2 hours later drink a yucky sugary drink, then another blood test. The whole thing takes about 3 hours and you have to spend the whole morning sitting around, which is sooooo boring.
Just got back from the dentist.Rather embarrassing as my exemption from when I had Ds has only just run out and now I'm exempt again.

CornflakeKid · 10/10/2006 17:56

Does it need to be done at hospital or can it be done at doctors? It would have to be first thing or i'll be passing out without food for that long!

doobydoo · 10/10/2006 18:42

Hope you are still resting Duchesse..thinking of you.Go Vlad.
Hurrah for scan Bubalooooo.Mine tomorrow.Feel anxious so am hoping to feel more relieved after.
Unmuzzled grey hound burst into our garden yesterday and ran after my Jack Russell.I was outside with ds and thought Scooby was going to be ripped to piecdes in front of him.Fortunately all was ok.But felt v.shaky and sick afterwards...nightmare.
I just seem to go about my daily business retching on and off...which can be a tad disconcerting for people.
Hope we are all ok.
It's so fab reading all the posts.

CornflakeKid · 10/10/2006 19:35

doobydoo - what an awful experience - you poor thing - I tend to keep my distance from dogs anyway and the boys aren't keen - if one came charging into our garden with us there I think I would completely freak out! Don't think we'll ever hav pets in our house - dh allergic to cats and 3 children def enough to look after! Maybe a goldfish though...but that's still pushing it!

Have a nice evening everyone - going to watch Eastenders and Holby City if I make it that far! I also cried all the way through th x factor the other night - dh said I would have to record future ones and watch them while he's at work!!!

bubbaOOOOOOO · 10/10/2006 20:01

CFK-Have a feeling it has to be done at the hospital/clinic and I know where I go,they only do it in the morning. My appointment is at 9am.

Doobydoo-How awful.Glad Scooby is ok though. My FIL Actually got attacked by a dog a little while ago.He is 80 years old,was walking to his paper shop like he does every morning and a japanese Akita flew out of someones house and pinned him down on the pavement.Luckily he only had a couple of cuts and a few scratches, along with a ripped jacket, but it really shook him up.

I'm more of a cat person myself, although the hairs and litter tray are really beginning to get on my nerves at the mo.

bubbaOOOOOOO · 10/10/2006 20:02

Btw...I bought some smoked salmon and some bagels today, after all that talk the other day

Sexonlegs · 10/10/2006 20:29

Bubba, pmsl at you getting fed up with cat hair and litter!
My cats are driving me mad too. They constantly want to sit on my lap, but take ages trampling around and dribbling on me first!
Hope everyone is ok tonight.
Big hugs xx

emmymummy · 10/10/2006 20:37

Yooooch! Blegh, how can you deal with cat poo when you've got ms? Similarly when I see people picking up their dog's poo I just want to run away and heave (although obviously it's good they actually pick up the poo). It's bad enough emptying the kitchen bin!

Katy44 · 10/10/2006 20:42

Yes, urgh, thanks for reminding me, bin day tomorrow [we really need a sick smiley]

bubbaOOOOOOO · 10/10/2006 20:43

At least they've stopped bringing mice in.They were bringing one in nearly every day up until a few weeks ago.Anyone would think they don't get fed.

Was going to do a "catch up" but I'm off to watch Supernanny instead, while Dh is asleep on the sofa, tee hee!

emmymummy · 10/10/2006 20:50

Bubba - aren't dead mice their idea of a present for you? They must really love you .

Am watching Trinny & Susanna and am crying at that. Silly, silly me.

muminamini · 10/10/2006 20:56

Hi everyone

Welcome new ladies!
What a day - Hubby's tyre blew on the motorway - he was SO LUCKY! When he came through the door at 10am I got the fright of my life as I knew something had obviously happened - thankfully he was only just going on to the motorway and got onto the hard shoulder quick. Teh car is only months old as well!
I keep thinking about it and just thinking - thank you someone for looking after him!

Am crapping it about the scan tomorrow - I just want toknow everything is ok and I am really scared it won't be. Never gave it much thought first time around....my Mum is coming with me and is really excited bless her - they didn't have scans "in her day" and as DH can't come she jumped at the chance.

I also have my GGT appointment - they are always early morning and in my letter it tells me to bring a book and some sandwiches for after! I had one last time - apparently if your BMI is over 25 you automatically get one here?

Duchesse - thinking of you - get those feet up and rest girl!!!

I am seriously struggling clothes wise - it's getting me down - I'm ok in my work skirts - its jeans at the weekend - they just don't fit and I hate wearing tracky bottoms. Not ready for the maternity clothes yet tho....plus its all so expensive!

I am going to have to get something this week as DH is "treating" me to my first Football match on Saturday (I use treat in the loosest sense of the word!) and we are going out for a pub meal after - I really want to make an effort to look nice as I feel like I have just slobbed about for the past 12 weeks!

Well off to bed - early night for me as at work in the morning before my scan...
Night ladies

MIAM 12+ 4

muminamini · 10/10/2006 20:58

Sex on legs
I completley agree with you - my cat Jasper is exactly the same and it's driving me mad too - I am convinced both times I got PG he knew before we did as he just will not leave me alone when I'm pregnant!

evilanniedividedin2byalargeaxe · 10/10/2006 21:02

Hello April people! I have just hopped across from the Due March thread to give you the following info from my sister who is an HR bod

"Did you know that if your expected week of confinement is on or after 1st April 2007 you will be entitled to 39 weeks Statutory Maternity Pay, not 26?

But you will have to give 15 weeks' notice of your leave, not 28 days as at present. The notice required to return to work has also gone up and will be 8 weeks, unless you take the full year and then you just come back.

There is another change: you can do up to 10 days work during your maternity leave. These will be called KIT days - keeping in touch. You can come back in to work or for training and your employer has to agree with you what you will be paid. But you can't be obliged to take KIT days if you don't want to."

I hope that might be useful to some of you.

Bugmum · 10/10/2006 21:03

Hi everyone,
Just posting for a good RANT. Foetal scan dept rang tonight, to change my nuchal scan from Tuesday eve to Wednesday eve, because some woman wanted in particular to see the Tuesday consultant. So not only do I probably not get the nice one, and I have a whole extra day of worry, I also have my ordinary consultant meeting on Weds to discuss whether to go for a VBAC etc, and I really didn't want to do that without at least knowing what the nuchal scan suggested. So now I feel really superstitious about it all, and feel it will be bad news. Why I said okay, change it, is beyond me; I think they got me on the back foot.

zazas · 10/10/2006 21:21

Evening all. Just a quick one as I have used up all my energy catching up on your day! Muminamini - your lucky DH that is one of my worse fears.

Anyway tonight I received my Nuchal scan results / blood test back and was given a risk of 1:1980 which at 38 years I have come out very well, thank goodness. Obviously very relieved and hopefully now that my ms is abaiting and my energy slowly picking up I can get on with finally enjoying the pregnancy.

So good luck with everyone else and their scans and here is to us all enjoying and being proud of our expanding bellies!

Greengirlforever · 10/10/2006 22:09

Well done on the bagels BubbaOOOOOOO - I have also bought some more . At least I've gone off Pot Noodles.

MIAM - what a relief about your hubby!

Bugmum - I would feel exactly the same as you. But I'm sure it will make no difference at all - you may even find this consultant is actually less up him/herself than the one the other (clearly more insecure!) lady wanted to see. Well you never know!!

Now a serious question to everyone. Most of you know I had my CVS last Monday. Today I have been getting what feel like mild period cramps, on and off but more on than off. Has anyone else been feeling anything like this at this stage - what I'm wanting to find out, of course, is whether this is normal for 13+ weeks and does not signify the beginning of a you-know-what....

Reassurance needed please (but only if it's true....)....

duchesse · 11/10/2006 03:29

Although sometimes people just want to see a consultant they've built a relationship with- I remember during my third pregnancy, when I had enforced consultant care despite there being no problem, that I much preferred to see the straight-talking woman consultant than the patronising male ones. So I'd wait around in ante-natal clinic until she was available, even if it meant an extra half hour there. Or maybe the lady who needs to see the particular consultant has religious reasons for needing a female one, for example.

It is bit crap that they've had to move your day though.

liath · 11/10/2006 06:52

Morning everyone. Up very early tody as dd isn't well (hand foot & mouth disease!) so was wailing with her sore mouth in the wee hours, poor thing. Hope she has a nap sooner rather than later.....

Good luck for today's scan, MIAM & I bet your mum enjoys it. Mine's already really excited as I've asked her to come over when I'm in labour. Hope everyone who's had bleeding are all fine.

GGF I've had a lot of period type cramps, some days worse than others - more than I recall from last time. I'm keeping fingers & toes crossed for you.

Weeonion - how are you feeling?

emmymummy · 11/10/2006 07:38

GGF - I'm 12 weeks today (yay!) but am still getting period like cramps which I've had on and off over the last few weeks. Some days it really does feel like my period is starting, and then I remember that it can't be. I also get strange pulling type pains sometimes when I sneeze - I have to clutch my tummy before I sneeze to stop them happening. I don't remember any of this from my last pregnancy. So, your cramps are probably growing pains & the general aches of everything stretching and moving. Just take it easy and be kind to yourself, you've been through a tramatic couple of weeks. I'm sure if you speak to your midwife she'll be able to offer the reassurance you need. xxx
