Just Shagging - Thread 11 for Graduated Viroids!

JuniDD · 17/08/2014 06:27

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 11th grads thread...celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed Grin

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 27th outing.

There is also a Just Mumming thread in postnatal here once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a secret facebook group, if you want to join, ask in-thread.

So, roll call below please, viroids! Smile

Can I ask which pregnancy/baby book you guys would recommend? I was thinking wtewye the quintessential read but wondered if it is a bit too American?

RPopz · 14/09/2014 10:24

Haha foot in mouth disorder!

I'm going to have a baby shower and organise it myself in super crass fashion Wink It's more just an excuse to get everyone together for tea and cake and have some social time before I go on maternity leave. I'll tell people not to feel obliged to bring gifts but I think most people like to anyway (I always did). We've got most stuff anyway, but purposely haven't bought many clothes yet in anticipation of getting a shit tonne as gifts!

There is an American and UK version of wtewye La - I still found it quite Americany though. And it's quite repetitive, I didn't like it much. I know other people who love it though so... worth a bash. I've got a big Pregnancy Day by Day book which is really nice. Think most of the other books I've got are on birth/ parenting tbh - I'll have a look through my kindle in a bit xx

ZylaB · 14/09/2014 10:50

Hey all. I'm not having a shower, I don't want a fuss but there's nothing wrong with having one if you want :)

Am at brother and. SILs for little nephew's first birthday!! Aww, he's so lovely!
They've got a car seat they've never used we're getting, thing someone bought them one after they'd bought one. We have one already but this one will go in DH's car :). She's also got some maternity clothes I'm going to have a look through yay.

wilmabedrock · 14/09/2014 10:57

I'm not really into baby books. I got a pg one and a baby one last time round and they were both quite medical/factual. Pg one was quite nice to see how development was happening although have looked at it once this time. Will have a look for name later. Baby one was a guide on what happened each week up to about 3 months. So pretty much just covered how much sleep/milk they need at each stage and when growth spurts etc were. Also likely issues that may arise at certain times and what to look out for. Found it quite helpful. Will look it out when I go upstairs. Somebody gave me some attachment parenting one but I couldn't be arsed to read it... (possibly don't take my approach to parenting).

JuniDD · 14/09/2014 11:42

lauren I was wondering that myself re #2! The first isn't out yet but having had such a trial to get here it seems a bit too much like tempting fate. A shower for a second might be nice. I doubt it would occur to many of my friends but I'm going out for afternoon tea with some of them shortly before EDD so that will nice.

I have a book called "Expecting" which is quite good, although I rarely look at it (don't even know where it is!). I have the Babycentre day-by-day pregnancy app on my phone which is great. I'll probably get the Wonder Weeks app when baby is here too.

I'll probably have a shower as an excuse to see my friends together before baby comes. My friend did one which coincided with her birthday. No presents required but if you really wanted to a book which you loved as a child would be appreciated. And cake.

DP is out an a huge sponsored bike ride so DS and I are having a lazy day. I'm making a roast dinner later. We told the rest of DP's friends at a party last night. I've now heard "oh I thought you were putting weight on" four times. I haven't gained a sodding pound yet! I'm definitely looking paunchy though. I'm wearing a black top with a sparkly picture on the front and I thought to myself on passing a mirror "I look like Dafydd from Little Britain". Oh dear.

wilmabedrock · 14/09/2014 13:01

Haha pis, I'm sure you look nothing like Daffyd! That's a really lovely idea about the books.

RPopz · 14/09/2014 14:16

Oh that is a gorgeous idea about the books Pis - I love it! I'm a bit of a fiend for books. This child already has a tonne of books... all my childhood books are up in the attic waiting! Blush

RPopz · 14/09/2014 14:19

Oh and I put on precisely 2lbs between my 6 week booking app and the 12 week scan... but people still delighted in telling me they'd noticed me wearing baggy clothes to hide my "bump" after we made our announcement Hmm

Nessalina · 14/09/2014 16:08

We have so many books that I've refused to get rid of from when I was little - really glad I kept them all now!
Also v.smug that I refused to let my parents sell my old Lego, so now I have a metric shitload of the stuff - I can't believe how much they flog it for new! Shock
Shower was fun, lots of food Smile Some silly games that just reinforced to me that I don't want games at my party Hmm

wilmabedrock · 14/09/2014 16:35

Yeah avoid cheesy games Ness. Just have extra cake to fill the time.Smile

RPopz · 14/09/2014 16:43

Haha, you didn't have to do the food in the nappy game did you?? Grin

RPopz · 14/09/2014 16:48

Eurgh, back to work tomorrow Sad Roll on maternity leave!!

laurenamium · 14/09/2014 17:12

La I have the mumsnet one and one called "the rough guide to pregnancy and birth" by kaz Cooke. It's not bad, has a little diary entry of a fictional person every week, tells you how big the baby is and all the things you need to know week by week. The sciency practical stuff and the "you're going to be a total mentalist this week" stuff too which is helpful Grin I read a week ahead so I know what's coming Wink

Nessalina · 14/09/2014 17:13

Lol, no, that sounds terrifying! Shock There was a nappy race, bobbing for nipples, and pin the baby on the boobie Hmm
Only ten more days til mat leave - hallelujah!!

wilmabedrock · 14/09/2014 17:16

Aargh I'm so jealous of everyone with impending mat leave. Sigh, only another 3 1/2 months to go...

JuniDD · 14/09/2014 18:43

Pin the baby on the boobie?! You should suggest that for your NCT group. Hahah!

We have filled this thread up very quickly! Shall I do the next one or would furry like the honours?

Oh, I saw on another thread that wagga had her baby, I think it's a DD. Smile

Oooh that rough guide book is supposed to be good. I was going to buy it 2nd hand off one of DH's friends but she wanted 20 quid for it!

Haha, ten out of ten for inventiveness on the game front!! Grin

RPopz · 14/09/2014 20:00

Don't actually know when I go on mat leave yet... should prob sort it out tomorrow when I go back!

wilmabedrock · 14/09/2014 20:33

Think you might have to do it by 25 weeks popz so best get a move on Grin . (could have made that up). £20 for a second hand book?! How much is it new?

splodge77 · 14/09/2014 21:32

Hiya, I had rough guide last time round - quite liked mix of fact & humour. This time I'm reading interesting book called 'expecting better' by Emily Oster - she's an economist who really delves into all the recommendations & stats regarding pregnancy advice: everything from drinking alcohol to risks associated with amniocentesis. It's really interesting & v helpful if you tend to be a bit of a worrier like me! Got thru my friends wedding this wknd without arousing suspicion about me non drinking I think.

Nessalina · 14/09/2014 21:34

I've got the rough guide one too, it's quite entertaining Smile Not worth £20 though Shock
If you want something big & facty, I got 'Your Pregnancy 2014' - they do a new edition each year so all the research & stuff is bang up to date. It's good & and solid and an interesting read.
The men's books are also very refreshing, good to see it from the other side! My DH enjoyed 'Pregnancy for men' and 'the expectant dad's survival guide' Smile

Nessalina · 14/09/2014 21:37

I don't mind sorting the next one as you did this one Juni! Smile
Exciting for Wagga!

Nessalina · 14/09/2014 21:42

Although Furry, you're only due 4 days after me, so you might get away with thread starting altogether at this rate! I'll do this one if you do the next Wink

Nessalina · 14/09/2014 21:43

I might fill this one single handed at this rate... Grin
