Hi,

I've finally got my BFP and want to find others who want to chat and eat cake whilst being excited about cooking our little dragons.

I am 31yrs old, just got my BFP for #2.

Come in and sit down for the next nerve racking 9 months :)

I just wrote a big post and forgot to send it - oops! I blame pregnancy ;) I hope everyone is feeling okay this morning and I'm thinking of those of you who have had bad or worrying news. I've still not made it onto the computer, still on my phone, so I wonder if someone would kindly update my stats please? I'm 36 (old!!), this will be our second child and I'm not sure of my EDD completely, but very early April I think. If I find out it's late March I guess I'll have to move threads! I'm still a bit nauseous and throwing up at times, but not anywhere near as bad as last week - I think the travel bands are really working for me. I managed to get through three days of pretty intense training for work which I thought would be a real struggle, so that was a big relief. I have my first midwife appointment on Thursday so I'm interested to see what she says. I had an emergency section last time so I wonder if they'll recommend an elective this time or not. Has anyone had experience of that situation?

dancestomyowntune · 16/08/2014 08:15

looks like we are going to need a second thread soon! my midwife and i keep missing each others calls Sad not too worried but would like.to get the booking in app sorted Sad

Wherediparkmybroom · 16/08/2014 08:19

I am so hoping that I half the labour time again, I managed a scant 8 hrs in the labour suite last time and two of those we're waiting to go! Three hrs as opposed to 20 odd with the first would suit me! EDD 10 April by the way, but the 12 week scan may say different, it always has done before.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/08/2014 08:39

Labour wise I was induced at 9pm weds and have birth 11.20am fri with ds1 and then was kept in from the point of induction on the ward.

With ds2 they sent you home so induced me at 8.30am, back in delivery suite 3.30pm and born 5.30pm, home at 9.30 pm :)

From friends experiences they encourage vbac Twittwooo but don't force it. My friend opted for elcs because she'd had a 44hr labour result in emcs with her dd who was 9lb 10. Ds was measuring big and she did want to be in the same situation he turned out to be 8lb 4 and she was a little disappointed she didn't try but I think you have to decide how you'd feel about another emcs and she couldn't face one :(

I feel shit this morning! Had some toast which has help the nausea but I feel about 80!

Twittwooo · 16/08/2014 08:43

Thanks cinnamon, I'll see what they say. I also had a long labour and got to 9cm dilated - don't really want to do that again! Have you tried the travel bands? I was sceptical but they've definitely made me feel a lot better. I'm quite responsive to acupuncture though so it's maybe different for everyone.

Kelbells · 16/08/2014 08:49

Good luck Wriggly and phryn.... After my 'don't think the worst' message yesterday, I also had some light pink bleeding last night... I totally lost it and started the woh is me... It's not fair... Why can I never have a 'normal' pregnancy (bled through whole of last one and had a cervical stitch - 2 mc's before that)... But I'm feeling a bit more positive this morning, my temp is still high and poas again which is darker, so just have to wait it out, take it easy this weekend and keep everything crossed!

Good to hear a few people are looking at home births or have experience to pick brains GrinGrin

Binary - I think you have to buy your own birthing pool... just cover everything with plastic sheeting, towels and make sure you've got tea and cake for the midwives?! Pretty sure the midwives just arrive armed with gas and air, ready to cheer you on? Smile

CareBearWithFangs · 16/08/2014 08:53

Binary, my sister whose had 2 home births says they bring plastic sheets and clean everything up before they go home. My sister is very very house proud so I'm sure it must be ok.

I nearly ended up with an emcs with DD but managed to get her out with forceps on what they said was the last attempt. I have to have an appointment with a consultant at 14 weeks to check I'll be ok for a home birth because I haemorrhaged quite badly last time.

I really so hope the labour time halves each time, 36 hours with DD.

How's everyone feeling this morning?

dancestomyowntune · 16/08/2014 08:57

i am in awe of you women that have home births! i dont think i could. i like to know that if something isn't going right they have all the equipment on hand to have a happy ending. also with all but my 3rd i have had epidurals and the dreaded drip. dc3 was born as they were trying to get the epidural in Grin he was on the bed and i was crying he couldn't be, it was too soon, i hadn't had the epidural!!!!

Cisforcat · 16/08/2014 09:09

Dance I feel the same. After my experience with my DD u couldn't consider a home birth. My DH has very diplomatically said if if had a home birth I would have died, and to be honest I think he is prob right as my first was not a nice experience at the end of a 3 day induction. I'm guessing this one is likely to be late too( DD was 15 days late).
I am glad people do consider it tho as in the right circs I can imagine it's a nice environment to be in and much more relaxing! I know a few people who've had a home birth pool and raved about it.
My plan with my first was to have a water birth which I couldn't as induced so ill plan it this time and hope but I'm open minded. Safe and healthy is all I'm really after! :)

Been on medication for sickness now for 2 days and it's definitely helping. In absolutely exhausted but a side effect is drowsiness so I'm guessing that doesn't help when your exhausted anyway!

7+3 today so still a while until midwife app ( I'll be 9 weeks) and so hoping it goes quick. I can't wait to get some energy back!! I am totally jealous of those running as I am going to be at 8 and sleeping til 7 at the mo and struggling to get up even then! DD is keeping me on my toes bless her so well done to those exercising!

Kelbells · 16/08/2014 09:15

Care bear... Fabulous news! I didn't realise that! This makes me even more sure I'd like one!
Although - I know I'm going to meet huge barriers from my parents and siblings who hate the idea and that it's dangerous!

Also hoping it's true that labour halves... Ds1 was 18 hours from first contractions and once I was in the mlu I kept apologising for taking too long and wasting their time - the gas and air sent me a little bit doolally! Wink But 9 hours sounds like a dream! Grin

Dances - that's funny Grin not at the time I imagine though Shock

CareBearWithFangs · 16/08/2014 09:24

Haha dances. In my midwife appointment the other day the midwife asked me what drugs I had in labor with dd, I just said all of them. I think I had a little bit of everything and was completely out of it by the time I had the epidural. I am a bit nervous about trying labour without all the drugs but I managed last for about 20 hours without anything but gas and air but ended up having more because I was so exhausted by that point.

To be honest DP isn't keen on me having a home birth this time, same reason as cisforcat, I might have died if last time had been a home birth. But out nearest hospital is 10 mins away and I know there really good for transferring you in if there's any trouble. From what I've worked out because we live so close to the hospital it's basically the same amount of time to transfer me in from home as it would be to prep me for theatre if I was already in hospital.

dancestomyowntune · 16/08/2014 09:45

see i never get on with gas and air. it makes me feel sick and every time they say, oh we've changed the formula, you'll be fine. nope. i had pethidine with dd1 and my leg felt wrong for months afterwards so not keen on that either... not that i'm fussy you understand! haha!

scratchandsniff · 16/08/2014 09:48

Twitt I ended up having an emergency c section last time too. To be honest I found it all pretty traumatic and drawn out. By the time DS arrived I was utterly exhausted, had contracted an infection and felt like I'd been run over by a bus. I feel like I want to opt for c-section this time. Really don't want to have another long labour only to end up with another c-section anyway or forceps. At least if I have elective I won't be totally exhausted beforehand. From what I've read on here it seems consultants can be really pushy about vbac and you have a bit of a battle on your hands. Of course I'd love a natural birth but I honestly can't see it happening. DS was 9lb 2 this baby could be bigger........eeek.

Anyway, I guess its a bit early to be worrying about it.

Lavendercandles · 16/08/2014 10:09

Can I join too please? EDD 22 April with DC2. Excited and nervous! Can someone update the list for me please as am on phone. I'm 29. Thanks ladies and hope you're all feeling ok! Nausea and tiredness have started to set in with me....

BananaToast · 16/08/2014 10:36

Went to the EPU this morning and they said they think the spotting I've been having is an implantation bleed but have booked me in for a scan in two weeks time at which point they should be able to see what's going on.

Feeling quite nauseous and totally knackered today, and the line when I POAS was stronger again this morning so feeling fairly positive about it all. At least I have something to count down to now.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/08/2014 10:38

Congratulations LavendarCandles

With ds1 I had g&a, pethedine and then an epidural when I had a syntocinon drip. Pethedine made me loose several hours so never again! Epidural worked well after second insertion but it wasn't what I wanted and felt it was forced on me dh was no help either

With ds2 I had tens until I got to hospital and then g&a and I was worried about coping but t was all good. Still not in water and didn't have the natural third stage I wanted but was much more positive experience.

Having said that I have two healthy boys and I'm fine too but I felt that ds2's birth healed some of the mental scars I had from ds1's birth.

I did run this morning but was very slow, I hate not being able to say, I'm not just rubbish I'm pregnant! That sounds really silly Blush. I'm tried at 2-3pm Cisforcat but most nights am awake for an hour after I've gone to bed Confused. Off work for two weeks now so will have lots of lay ins hopefully :)

cinnamongreyhound · 16/08/2014 10:41

Good news BananaToast!

Lindalove · 16/08/2014 12:05

So I've got my booking in appt on Sept 5 at UCLH and 12 week scan date is Sept 22. Can't wait til then so I'm buying the bullet and having a private 8 week viability scan next Friday to just have a look what's going on in there!

Also just had to buy my first maternity bra as my boobs are killing. I can recommend the Bravado silk seamless one which despite being non- underwired looks like an underwired one and can grow with your boobs plus act as a nursing bra. Also got a sleep bra as my sports bra isn't that comfy at night!

Hope all is going well for everyone!

tryinghard2 · 16/08/2014 12:18

Ooh Lindalove I need to get one of those! My nipples hurt so much - I never knew this happened!

We're wishing the first 12 weeks away now. 6 down, 6 to go! I thought the tww was bad Grin. I'm spending the time learning - didn't realise how much I don't know about everything. 2 weeks yesterday till our booking in appt - does anyone have any advice on questions to ask or things to find out?

minipie · 16/08/2014 12:33

squatting as to whether your second would be early, I think it depends on the reason your first was. So if it was because of a cervical weakness, or you had irritable uterus, these can happen again I believe. However other causes like infection are no more likely to happen again. So do you know why your first was 36 weeks?

DD was born at 34 weeks (PROM) and I recently had a meeting with a consultant where she was born who looked at my notes and said no reason to think it would happen again - as my waters went first but no cervix dilation or contractions till later, so most likely an infection of some sort.
