Can I poke my head back in please? I have been away for a few weeks and not kept up with the thread but am home now and wondering how everyone is doing?

Anyone else finding sleep hard going? I am ready for this baby to arrive soon simply for the ability to move in bed more comfortably!

Annarose2014 · 30/08/2014 14:01

Oh pink I am surrounded by older nurses who keep banging on about "In my day we weren't let go till 38 weeks and we just got on with it!"

SHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUP......!

Tbh, there is no way I could keep going post 34 weeks which is when most modern nurses go off - I'll be 32 weeks going off and I'm so fucking DONE I can't even tell you!

I honestly think my irritability will diminish a lot when I'm finished. Also finding sleep to be impossible, but I don't think I'd mind so much if I didn't have to get up at 6am then!

Kantha · 30/08/2014 15:02

Back in 1975 when DH was due in mid Nov, MIL stopped teaching at the end of the Summer term and never went back.

Times change...

amy83firsttimer · 30/08/2014 15:22

Just found out my colleague's had her boy. / girl twins! Eek! So happy for her, they'd had to do IVF following 2 ectopics so I'm so so happy for her!

TwigletFiend · 30/08/2014 16:17

barmy, welcome back! All ok here at the moment, hope it's the same for you. Ditto on the sleeping front - finding it very hard to stay comfortable for long enough to drop off.

amy, congratulations to your colleague, I bet she's thrilled Smile

anna and pink, just ignore the grumblers. There's always someone who likes to moan, no matter what you do. My boss made a snippy comment to a customer the other day about staff getting pregnant and the inconvenience of it all. I just laughed!

Work, envious you get to see your LO again. I have my first set of measurements this Thursday at my 28 week appointment, though I will actually be 29 + 4 by that point. I am dreading it as my belly feels so tight at the moment that the slightest thing makes me itch like mad! Poor MW is going to think I have some kind of nervous twitch every time she comes at me with the tape measure Hmm

I am planning to work until Halloween, so will be roughly 38 weeks by the time I stop. Eek! I am lucky enough to have an office job though, so hopefully it will be manageable. If not, I'm just planning on signing off early. I think it will all be a bit dependent on the weather for me, as I am planning to still do my horse (though not necessarily ride) right up until I pop. But it's quite physical work, even with only 1 neddy to manage, so I might have to give it a miss. We'll see!

I finished painting my nursery this morning, wahoo! Grin I am now sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea feeling rather smug and ignoring the massive pile of washing in the hallway.

Petal26 · 30/08/2014 20:34

Well done on the nursery twiglet, we are painting tomorrow :-)

Headteacher has emailed back and wants me in for both of the Inset Days, boooo Angry

barmybunting · 30/08/2014 22:34

Petal, that is a nuisance about your Head wanting you in on both days. I have to admit that the thought of working until 38/39 weeks sounds hellish!

I am off for the summer at the moment (primary school teacher), but have chosen to start mat leave at 30 weeks when the schools go back as I couldn't be bothered with a 75 min commute each way anymore. I am not returning to my teaching job at that school next year anyway as we have to move due to DH's job so I have no time limit on mat leave so it seemed like a good plan to finish early. Like many of you though, I would have been continuing until Oct half term had it not been for that.

Vicky5910 · 31/08/2014 12:18

Petal Pink I'm dreading going back on wednesday too. They're all older at my school too and not at all sympathetic! We have had a total change in staff too, so I am expecting a lot of hand holding expectations as well as all the extra things I'm always asked to do as well! I have already decided if they start asking too much and my migraines and tiredness get too much I'm off! I'm sure they see me as just a dogsbody, and I am going to have to learn that 'no' word ...

Kantha · 31/08/2014 12:22

The first baby has arrived on the October thread!

Petal26 · 31/08/2014 14:07

Barmy I think I would have finished in the summer if I had a 75 min commute too!

Vicky I was just saying to DH I will have no guilt taking a sick day if my migraines/tiredness get too much as well. I haven't had any time off at all so far.

Bit naughty last night, I know I have an anterior placenta so reduced movements, but hadn't really felt bump during the day So might have had a can of Dr Pepper (my favourite but I have avoided really well as moderate levels of caffeine) to check he was awake. He had a dance and all is well!! Remembered towards the end of the can that you can also have an ice cube to wake them up (I think.....) so might try that next time Wink

DD is at the cinema with nan, trying to plan the Science lessons but getting distracted....

blamber · 31/08/2014 14:26

Someone in the October thread had their baby? That's very early, I hope it's ok.

I'm getting so so tired as well. Not sleeping well, can't get comfortable sitting either and get tired walking. Still have more than two months to go! Hopefully when I'm off things will get easier. I have a massive commute too, three hours each day on public transport, which is why I'm finishing early in three weeks too.

I think it's different for everyone what would be a good time to stop working. But I think many women feel pressurised to go on longer than they'd like!

Our nursery is just full of boxes at the moment and there's so much else that needs doing in the house. Redecorate the living room, put new floors down et. I'm trying not to get too stressed about it but November is coming up quite soon!

I had a growth scan last week and the baby is measuring average. It was nice to see him again, his little face, you could even see his eye lids.

blamber · 31/08/2014 14:29

Actually, it's almost September so maybe that baby was not that early. Oh time is going too quickly! I've got so much stuff yet to do and get!

barmybunting · 31/08/2014 16:36

Gosh, if the October babies have started appearing already, makes Nov seem very close! I saw that a May 2015 antenatal group had started the other day, our little ones will be six months then which is just scary!

I think if you are working and start feeling too tired/not great, you are perfectly right to take time off. At the end of the day, a few days off when you need them is so much better when it is for the health of you and your baby. Work will still be there when you go back, but your health and baby's are too important to ignore if you are struggling.

blamber · 31/08/2014 17:14

Very true barmy!

weeonion · 31/08/2014 17:18

hi folks - it is a beaut sunny day up here.

i am also on october thread as my dates got moved form 5th nov to 25th oct and yep - all becoming a bit more real! think of it though - our babies can be easily, safely and healthily born from 36 weeks so it isnt really that early!

I keep telling dp that as i am 32 weeks - we really have to be ready for me to go into labour and have this baby from about 4 weeks time!!

our bed nest arrived and we have it put up. I think others on this thread were getting it too?? our bed has a bit of a funny bed frame (not a divan) so we have had to manovere the mattress a bit to make it fit.

i really wish mat leave was sooner. barmy - would love to have time off and be finished up sooner but aint an option financially. i have to save as much mat leave for after baby arrives as possible as can only afford to be off around 4 months. Grin

Annarose2014 · 31/08/2014 17:23

Oh God, I'm 1st November so realistically I need to be ready to go from the beginning of October!

That is definately something I've been avoiding thinking!

31 weeks tomorrow. It all feels a bit real now!

Kantha · 31/08/2014 18:00

Yes I think the baby was born at 35 weeks so not alarmingly early and was over 8lbs! Hopefully the baby is doing well.

I'm 31 weeks too and it's beginning to feel a bit real. I have finally arranged to go and get my new baby clothes back off a friend this week.

weeonion · 31/08/2014 18:08

yep!!!

at last homebirth appt - midwife really emphasised the need to be ready from 36 weeks so it put a bit of a fire under dp to help me get this flat sorted!!!

the hope is i wont go that early and likliehood is i wont but hey ........

happypotamus · 31/08/2014 20:39

Hi, You probably won't remember but I was in this group in the beginning but then stopped having time to get round to posting. I thought I should try and join back in if that is ok.
I am 31 weeks today, baby due on 2nd Nov, and have a 3yr old already.
I am very much not ready/ organised yet. We have most baby stuff from DD, but need a new pram that will actually fit in the car boot as we had fold down one of the back seats to fit in the one we had before. We need to decorate a new room for DD so the baby has the small room, but first we need to clear all the stuff out of the spare room and I have no idea where it will go. I am working until 36 weeks in a physically and emotionally demanding 13hr shifts including nights job, and even once I start mat leave will still be looking after DD most days as she only goes to pre-school 2 days a week. I also wanted to have some of Christmas sorted before the baby is born too so I am not heading into town in December with a tiny baby, but I am pretty sure I'm not organised enough for that.
Hope everyone is doing well.

CraziesTogether · 31/08/2014 20:56

Also due 1st Annarose!

Completely not ready, cot in boxes, nursery has no carpet even, and no form of pram or travel seat in sight!

.....hospital bag! Arghhhh! Not even thought about that.

First baby and I think it still hasn't even hit me it's going to happen!

Anyone else struggling to buy stuff/get organised? I can't even bring myself to buy babygrows. Confused

WorkFreeWannabe · 31/08/2014 21:11

Crazies, you are not alone!

Due 13th Nov. Only just paid off the furniture which is coming 4 weeks before EDD. Nursery painted and carpet down. Still packed full of junk

I've only bought 3 sets of 3 sleep suits from Mamas and Papas and what's only because they were on sale at less then half price. £18 for the lot!

Travel system ordered, but only deposit paid.

Still have to sell my smart car as it's terribly not practical. Then buy new car

I'm really depending in the baby shower my friends are throwing me at the end of Sept to fill in some of the gaps.

I has a panic earlier when I realised I have 10 weeks left as of Thursday. The thought of my hospital bag sends shivers down me.

Should I laugh hysterically now or later!

CraziesTogether · 31/08/2014 22:08

I am usually the most planned organised person ever, but i think because I have accepted so much is now completely out of my control I have changed into overly laid back, not bothered about getting anything ready kind of attitude.

Seeing someone on the October thread has already given birth has just FREAKED me out! (But I still can't be arsed to get with the programme).

Someone please give me a step by step kick up the arse! What is the first/most important thing to do?

WorkFreeWannabe · 31/08/2014 22:33

Me too Crazies. Normally I over plan as I'm quite anal with OCD tendencies. I've tried to stay very relaxed this pregnancy due to other health issues which can affect my BP, but that's made me a lazy sod.

Like you, the baby on the October thread scared the poop out of me. Tonight's mission is to at least write a shopping list for my hospital bag. I just googled and found a site with tips that work for me. As knowing my luck I'll have an early baby or have to go in early due to some long term health related issue.

AnnaBananaBoo · 31/08/2014 22:43

Wow, October baby...that's making it all seem very real! Since starting the third trimester, time has really started to fly by. Likewise, I'm feeling very disorganised but have a week off this week to try and get a bit of the to do list done whilst I've still got some energy and bump is not too much in the way...fingers crossed!!

Vicky5910 · 31/08/2014 22:50

I'm so glad others are struggling with the reality of all of it, that actually quite soon there will be a BABY to take care of!
Luckily Babies don't need much. Cotton wool, water, nappies, clothes, your boobs/formula. Job done.
Mums need maternity pads and tissues (sobbing hysterically at 3am just comes with the job).
Everything else is just frills ;)
I keep thinking about being pregnant but forgetting the end result is a human being who I am going to look after. Head is mush! I'm putting it all off until we've moved, but as the moving date was supposed to be last week and bugger all happened I'm thinking I might pick up a few bits now...!
