Hi all.

Just marking my place again! Hope everyone is doing well :-)

Finally I had my scan today. 20+4 :-) everything seemed normal and sonographer was happy with was she could see. We are joining the yellow team :-) I almost caved and said tell us but managed to resist. She did say look away if you don't want to no but I carried on looking. Still had no idea though? How can you tell if it's a boy or a girl? I saw I between the legs and definitely saw 2 round ish parts with a clear slit in the middle. I was convinced it was boys bits but now I'm thinking it was maybe girls bits?!!! Loving the guessing game though :-) baby was so shy Everytime she tried to get him/her moving baby would quickly put it's hands over it's eyes to hide. Also, over the past few days I've suddenly started to feel baby kick more. Maybe 5 times a day I notice baby awake... :-) finally!!

We've just got a 3 in 1 pram from mothercare. Was £380 :-) it's getting so exciting all of a sudden (although im still bring sick a lotttt)

X

Hey guys thanks for the thread!

Onion I second what was said about premature labour, it's actually a really big cause of it, if left untreated so I'd get antibiotics ASAP, I'm rather concerned about how slowly they got back to you tbh!

Mrs Dj I saw your post on the old thread and never ever worry about other people's feelings about the baby (except your daughters) it's about your feelings, this is a little baby, no one else matters! Who gives a shit what anyone else thinks!

TwigletFiend · 14/07/2014 19:47

I am also not doing very much jumping - more of a ginger sidle onto the thread. Had my first riding lesson in 18 months on Saturday and still feeling the pain now! (Not in a scary way, in more of an 'oh God I forgot I have core muscles' way.)

Hi mampam, we're due on the same date. Welcome to the thread! Smile

Baby, glad all was well at scan. Movement finally arrived for me too this week, phew! I've had maybe two or three really good kicks in the past week or so, mostly just fluttery feelings when I first wake up and about 9 or 10 at night. Bean seems to wriggle most then, though I am still only feeling things kind of at the sides of my belly rather than the middle. Maybe it's long enough to kind of stick out around the placenta at either end now? I know it's about 11" long at this stage (22+1), so surely it's longer than the placenta now?!

Taking my hat off to you ladies doing mammoth stints at work. I do 9-5 sitting in an office plus a couple of hours either end of my grooming work and that's enough to knock me flat! I have been invited back to teach a Pony Club Camp again in a couple of weeks too and found out today that I'm teaching 4-6 year olds, so am quite pleased. They tend to be much less stressful than the teenagers, even if it means a lot more running around leading their ponies when they have problems steering/stopping! I have requested a runner though so someone else can do most of the putting up little jumps, lifting children on/off ponies and the general running around for me.

I don't suppose any of the non-FTMs have the Silver Cross Surf system, by any chance? I really like the look of it, it goes with the Maxi-Cosi car seat I like (with adaptors), and it's supposed to be quite good for rural living. It is quite expensive though! Any experience, good or bad, of it would be much appreciated Smile

How is everyone getting on with appetite? Mine finally seems to have stabilised - I was swinging from not wanting to eat at all due to ongoing nausea to being ravenous about seven or eight times a day, but now am eating 3 normalish meals plus a snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Thank God - funding my own eating needs was putting a serious dent in our weekly food budget!

pinkgirlythoughts · 14/07/2014 19:48

Bunny, we bought our pram (second hand) a while ago- we can't afford a new one, so had to keep our eyes out for a pre-loved one we liked, then just get it as soon as we saw it! I'm being a bit superstitious and not keeping it in the house though :)

Strawberryfield12 · 14/07/2014 20:05

Hi Ladydolly welcome to the club! Sounds like we are two oldies in the same - Cambridge - hospital. :D

I received that letter as well and thought what a hideous idea to induce somebody at 39 weeks purely based on the passport data. If up to now I have had pregnancy which any 20 year old would be envious, with hardly any symptoms and the baby grows nice and perfect why would somebody start to intervene in something where nature seems to be working perfect?!
Also every woman is different, with different hormones and have matured sexually at different age (some have kids at 15 while others dont have sex before 20 something), some have had gynecologic problems others not. So also that side of ageing for each woman will differ?

Another point what my sister - a private GP - indicated was that due date is just an estimate, even when birth goes naturally it can be -/+ 2 weeks the due date, so how they can ensure that they actually induce women at 39 weeks and not at 36 or 37 weeks?! And then based on those funny data they will try to compose some conclusions?! It just sounds to me like somebody is trying to suck the doctor's dissertation out of nothing.

Just imagine about how they sent out those leaflets. Somebody with history of health problems but 34,5 years in November would not get the invite while somebody in a perfect health and fit like a young girl would get just because she would be 35,5 years old in November.

Maybe they will discover something amazing and groundbreaking as a result, but at this point I think this is pants and I am not going to put myself and my baby through experiments.

Strawberryfield12 · 14/07/2014 20:23

We bought pram this weekend, will be delivered in August. Actually we went off buying everything the night of the 20 week scan, before I didnt dare to buy anything more than some sleepsuits and baby bedding.

So amazon has already delivered the car seat&base, bouncer, sling, mattress for cot bed. Pram and co-sleeping cot coming in August and nursery 3 piece furniture - September.

Have been going through some baby essentials list and looks like we only have to buy things like diapers, baby toiletries and maybe few more things for the hospital bag. Thanks to online shopping it has been much easier than I thought.

Annarose2014 · 14/07/2014 21:59

We've been gifted a pram from my SIL. At first I was all excited to buy one of our own choosing and we had loads of catalogues - but when that turned up on our doorstep we rapidly went from "obsessed over the right one for us" to "sod it, it's free and it'll be fine" Grin

We've actually been given so much from various people that basically nothing baby will own will be of our own choosing. There's a definate advantage to being the last one to give birth!

Its brill though as it means I can spend money on rather frivolous stuff I probably wouldn't have bought otherwise. Such as Ewan the Dream
Sheep! Grin

amylou85 · 14/07/2014 22:02

Hiya guys ooooo new thread again! I wonder how many we will get through before november!

Best pregnancy buy is defo my maternity trousers, its like wearing pj's!

I know we have asked this before, but can we just recap which travel systems people have purchased? I had my heart set on a silvercross, but they are not massively high in any of the the top reviews on various websites so now i'm confused again!
I find all reviews so confusing as if you read into them no pushchairs seem very good with all the bad reviews. Urgh, brain frazzled.

Alita7 · 14/07/2014 22:18

Amy I've bought the zoom duo from mamas and papas. It was £215 for the chassis, pushchair seat (which clips in facing backwards or forwards) and a car seat with adapters. You can pay £279 for the zoom trio which has a carry cot as well but personally we thought it wasn't worth the extra money as we probably wouldn't use it much and id like to be as compact as possible on buses.

weeonion · 14/07/2014 22:30

So in 11 weeks I will be drinking my raspberry leaf tea by the gallon and snacking on these - www.examiner.com/article/eating-date-fruit-during-pregnancy-can-help-shorten-the-duration-of-labor

weeonion · 14/07/2014 23:08

kantha - ta for shoe link - i LIKE them Smile

strawberry - love what you said about age and totally agree.

Strawberryfield12 · 14/07/2014 23:10

amylou I was initially hooked on silver cross freeway special edition country club pram. But then I played around with it in shop and it was very heavy compared to other prams. It's a beautiful pram, but I might not be in shape to deal with its weight after the birth.
So I ended up with bugaboo chameleon, not so stylish, but more practical and easier in operation.

kate393 · 14/07/2014 23:34

Hi all! Trying to remember who has said what now...durrr baby brain!
Bump to breastfeeding DVD...I have it kicking around the bottom of my bag...who is it that's on it? Twiglet or weeonion? I got it last time and seem to think its same?!
Welcome mampam...we have a google doc somewhere, you should add your details (someone who is much more organised than me will post the link!)
I have the Concorde neo travel system from last time. Tbh I didn't use the carrycot but much (other than as an alt Moses basket for dd to sleep in downstairs) but I loved the car seat cos it felt so robust...I worry about the flimsiness of some car seats! And the pram has always been fab.
Busy week work wise, boss away from wed and lots on. I'm away tomorrow night then next week down to London for 2 days. Scan on fri tho....hurray (am I the last?) so can't wait for that.

Marking my place Smile

weeonion · 15/07/2014 00:36

Kate - DD and myself are on DVD. Looking forward to hearing yr scan news...
Stripey - yeah to see you back. I do wonder if you guessed correctly as to which one I am!!!

bunnykitten · 15/07/2014 00:37

amylou we're looking at various Graco travel systems (no particular reason for choosing that brand, it's just what we seem to be drawn to and are easily available for us to test out) - We're torn between the Evo, the Sky and the Symbio. Going to have another test drive of them at the weekend and hope we can decide! Annoyingly, none seem to tick all boxes so we'll have to compromise on something.

We're the first amongst our friends to have a baby, so unfortunately no freebies for us! Got some nice clothes on eBay though.

haventgotaclue1 · 15/07/2014 05:52

Crikey, thread 7 already! Eekkkk!

Amylou we initially really liked the look and feel of the Uppababy Vista - both me and my husband are tall (I'm almost 6' and he's 6'2". But it was going to cost around £650 for just the carry cot and buggy thing. Seemed extortionate for something that would be used for maximum of 12 months.

Sp now we're going for the Mamas & Papas own brand Zoom one - costs £300 and you get the carrycot, buggy, car seat and adapters for that price. Is more than adequate for what we need. ...
So

pinkgirlythoughts · 15/07/2014 07:46

Is it possible to get a copy of Bump to Breastfeeding online? I remember watching it when I was pregnant with DS and crying (bloody hormones!), but the midwife hasn't even mentioned it to me this time. I wondered if it was because I'm a second timer, but my sister is due in October with her first, and it wasn't mentioned to her either.

ladydolly · 15/07/2014 08:10

strawberry All valid points, I've been toying with the idea just because I wonder if the care and attention given to those in a study would be 'upped' when notes are going to have to be reviewed... but I've no idea what induction involves in terms of impact on me and the baby and the birthing process...

Nice to know there's someone locally on here though!

Travel system - I've got the Mamas and Paps Sola original but only because it was gifted by my sister, however she said it was fantastic and of course I trust her and the reviews on it are good too. We're pretty much there for all the big things, I'm not redecorating the spare room, powder blue is lovely for a girl IMO. 2nd hand nursing chair collected last week, cot delivered next week, furniture chosen and just has to be ordered. Kiddicare next week for the car seat and bases which will be our biggest expense since everything else was gifted. We've been really, really lucky in that department and with a cousin only 6 months older I doubt I'll ever have to buy many clothes!!

weeonion · 15/07/2014 08:58

Pinkgirly - I think it is standard in Scotland for all pg women to get it at booking in. Maybe England has ran out of supplies?? I probably have some spare copies knocking around ;-)
I also cry every time I watch it - as DD is so wee, my flat looks a tip and I look so much younger!!! ;-(

Elliekins · 15/07/2014 09:14

Hello ladies, just marking my place for the moment and to say Popcorn, I swear by Lactulose for constipation.
You can get it on prescription or over the counter and it's perfectly safe in pregnancy. I discovered it when it was prescribed for a baby I nannied for - it is basically just a sugary syrup that causes you to hold onto water to it 'softens'. Yuck. But it works and there's nothing nasty or explosive about it!

PosyFossilsShoes · 15/07/2014 09:56

Yes, another vote for lactulose here. I also recommend getting some baby wipes if you use it though as it makes things (TMI warning) unusually sticky and I found I was using half a loo roll to wipe!

PopcornFrenzy · 15/07/2014 10:03

I've tried lactolose and I've now managed to poo thank god, I tell you childbirth is nicer than constipation. It doesn't seem to matter how much I drink/eat, this is the only sude effect that I dread. Poor DP feels helpless when I'm almost crying cause my while body hurts cause I can't poo...

MrsWombat · 15/07/2014 10:33

About the silver cross prams. I have a sleepover which is similar to the freeway, and I absolutely love pushing it around our village and Bluewater, and I will enjoy pushing it when I take DS to school this time around and the baby will use it for daytime naps downstairs. However everything else with it is a nightmare. It's too big to go on buses and trains. It's won't fit in the car unless we have the pram section on a seat (this definitely Won't work this time with DS+ baby) and I don't like the look of it when it converts to a buggy mode, but I will persevere with it until the baby is more interested in the world than me as I love that it's parent facing. So we are going to buy a Baby Jogger City Mini as a car/holiday buggy, and will buy it online in September/October nearer the time.
