strawbs lovely view Smile at what time is your scan? Fx they let them both in.

Of course people saw me Confused DP was with me too and got me some ice from a nearby cafe, I only got a few scratches on one knee. I used to fall over all the time, exercising helped but now that I've reduced the workouts again, it's back with a vengeance, I blame hyper mobility and pg doesn't help the issue but I'm not complaining Smile.

FranksBobot · 22/07/2014 12:20

Very jealous of that view Strawbs. I know my hospital allows 2 people in with you at scans although sometimes they will ask for one to wait outside until they've done the anomaly checks then call them in when all is well.

I decided to make the most of the schools still being open this morning and go for a walk along the seafront. Topped off of course by an ice-cream as it would of been rude not too! It was lovely and quiet as you can see by the pic. Guarantee that will not be the case from Thursday!

I am dying from envy of both of your beautiful views! I am 11 floors up with a view of the houses of Parliament and the London Eye, so not too shabby, but I'd far rather some sea or greenery.

StrawbsAndCream · 22/07/2014 17:27

president that is still a lovely view!! Was in London walking around the London eye and Houses of Parliament not so long ago.. Isn't it funny that any of us could walk past each other and never know! Very warm here today, definitely feeling the heat so by accident am on my bed having a snooze again in the cool! These short shifts are nice :-)

Cakes I really need a pillow and just didn't know where to get one from, would you recommend it after having a few nights with it? I am desperate! And was it online or just in a Tesco store? How much? I will definitely buy it my hips are agony too!

Covent my scan is at 1.40pm. Oh dear it was worthy of ice, hope you're recovered by now!

Franks how lovely!! I recognise your view! :-) hopefully that's the same with ours then, it was fine 5 years ago with my sister so hopefully it hasn't changed.

Had a letter this weekend explaining major changes with our local hospitals which had been a long time coming, I will now be giving birth in a different hospital to where I've received all my care so far, as of August my current hospital will only have a midwife led unit with no scbu, no baby doctors, no anaesthetists meaning no epidural or c-sections. If there was an emergency or you needed an emergency CS, you would have to travel around 40+ mins in an ambulance to new hospital, which is a risk I'm not prepared to take! New hospital is exactly the same time away (30 mins) just in a completely different direction! Have heard great things about it so am not worried. Plus the maternity unit is on ground floor, bonus!

How's everyone else today? Who's scan is next? That reminds me I need to update the stats! X

CakesALot · 22/07/2014 17:57

Hi strawbs! I got it from tesco direct but I think the make is slumberdown?? Something like that. Just 12 quid and I love it! Half goes under my bump and half between my legs and it just seems to take the pressure off. Would definitely recommend it. There are plenty of alternatives out there designed specifically for pregnancy but I gave the cheapo version a go first!

Gorgeous seaside view there! Very jealous! I'm about as inland as you can get but I love the coast, would be beautiful today Smile

regularbutpanickingabit · 22/07/2014 18:10

Racing in to say hi and to say I had a great appt with my lovely consultant today and she even did a sneaky 5 mins scan! All looking good at the moment. 19 weeks today, 20 week scan next tues!

Penguin13 · 22/07/2014 18:40

Ah brilliant news regular. That must have been a bonus. Not long to wait till the official scan now!

Lovely views Strawbs and Franks. My office view is nothing to write home about but I will never tire of seeing St Paul's on my walk to the tube every day.

Glad the pillow is helping you sleep a bit easier Cakes. I've got a pillow my sister gave me but I think it's gone a bit too squishy so I might treat myself to a new one too.

StrawbsAndCream · 22/07/2014 19:59

Fab thanks Cakes! I think I'll do click and collect. I'll let you know how I get on!

That's great news regular a surprise scan is always nice! Bet you were really pleased, glad your consultant is a lovely one.

I wouldn't tire of St Pauls either penguin I think there's definitely pros and cons of city and countryside! Is treat yourself to a new one.. I guess sleep only gets worse from here!

Have finally decided to bite the bullet and we will definitely be using reusable nappies. Have finally decided which make I am getting, a friend has recommended them/explained it all to me, and I've had a go! They will only be about £100 including everything (liners, nappies, reusable wipes and soaking bucket) and here I know we get around £50 back from the government. So £50 compared to approx £1200 on disposables over the years! Will probs use Eco disposbale nappies for the first 2 months once the 12 poos a day is over!

Also if someone could douse me in freezing cold water I would be very grateful.

DrFunkesFamilyBandSolution · 22/07/2014 20:24

I'm back!
Strawbs, we use reusables part time (not atm as we're trying to sell our place!), the cost difference is amazing. I think it's why ds1 was happy to potty train so early (we started half arsed when he was 19m), feeling the wetness etc.

Great news regular!

Saw physio today & I now own a bump belt, huzzah!

Penguin13 · 22/07/2014 22:14

I get the best (and worst) of both city and countryside at the moment - I get my London fix at work but we live in a village on the Thames and had a lovely hour's walk along the riverbank this evening Smile.

I am in 2 minds about disposables. I don't know anyone in RL who has gone that route which makes me more nervous about it I think. I like the idea in principle but not sure I am brave enough in practice. I guess you are always washing anyway once you have a baby but did you find your bills went up with all the extra washes?

Penguin13 · 22/07/2014 22:29

2 cool down tips for anyone struggling with the heat. No 1: place a bowl of ice cubes or block of ice in front of your fan - really cools down the air being blown around the room. 2: if you have one of those wheat bags you normally stick in the microwave and use hot, try sticking it in the freezer for a while instead. I just took mine out and have it wrapped round my neck - it's so cooling and lovely and it stays cool long enough to help me sleep.

PresidentSpreadable · 23/07/2014 07:35

We're hoping to use reusables too. I've heard good things about Bumgenius and Motherease, hopefully we'll find one that suits our baby.

CoventGarden75 · 23/07/2014 09:34

It looked like a whale stranded on a beach, oh no wait, that was me lying on the bed this morning struggling to get up and get ready for work.

I've been thinking of reusable nappies too, and read that article the other day, but not sure of the impact re smelliness on a 40sqm flat.

Looks like I'm next for scan then, Friday @ 10.30.

FranksBobot · 23/07/2014 11:57

Just a quick one, had to share as I'm super super excited! I've just had my first proper big kick that was visable!! Was rubbing stretch mark cream in and got walloped!

On way out so will catch up properly later. Have stupid big grin on my face now Grin

OP posts:
Penguin13 · 23/07/2014 12:01

Also a quick one as have a million things to do over lunch but squeee Franks!!! Simultaneously super-excited for you and very envious!

CakesALot · 23/07/2014 12:26

That's lovely Franks! We'll all be slathering on stretch mark cream tonight hoping for the same response!! The big kicks are brilliant except when they're in your colon. Weirdest sensation ever

CakesALot · 23/07/2014 12:28

And on the nappy front, I'm definitely keen to give reusables ago. I only know one mum that uses them, and she has twins! So if she can, surely I can with one?! I didn't realise there was a variety of types though, will have to research...

CoventGarden75 · 23/07/2014 17:19

Awww, franks that must have been amazing!

FranksBobot · 23/07/2014 20:54

Thanks peeps, it really was the best ever. Little Franks clearly doesn't approve of my battle against the stretch marks.
DD broke up from school today. I am so excited that I don't have to waddle to school for the next 6 weeks.

Covent I'm sure you looked nothing like a beached whale! Only 1 more full day until your scan how exciting.

I'm very impressed with all the reusable nappy talk. I did consider it with DD but to be honest I'm not really cut out for them. Please don't think awful of me.

DrFunkes I've been wondering where you had got to! Do you find bump belt helpful? I'm starting to get a little achy around the bottom of bump / hips and was recommended a bump belt or believe it or not a baby sling. Apparently you can use the sling as bump support whilst pregnant.

Penguin Thanks for the fab wheatbag tip! I froze mine and took it to bed like you suggested. OH MY DAYS I actually fell asleep really quickly it was AMAZING!

Regular Fab news about surprise scan. I'll admit i'm slightly Envy

Off to make a cuppa and find some chocolate before OBEM!

OP posts:
Penguin13 · 24/07/2014 19:38

Yay glad the wheatbag tip worked for you Franks it's a bit gentler than just an ice-pack but very soothing.

I definitely haven't been spending twice as long as before rubbing in my Palmers on my belly Hmm but if I had I might have noticed that my lower belly has gone all fuzzy Mini penguin has def upped the activity lately and H reckons he got a little nudge when we were cuddling last night Smile it's definitely making it feel a bit more real like 'there's an actual tiny person in there'.

How's everyone enjoying the heat this week? I have to say it is truly disgusting on the tube and a bit hot at work but the sun is making me smile. Can't remember the last time we had this much lovely weather in the summer.

In other news, it is my driving test next Thurs. Eeeek. I feel totally unprepared and fairly sure I'm going to flunk it but at least I'll get the first test experience out of the way!

Penguin13 · 24/07/2014 19:42

Ps. Thanks whoever reminded me I like watching OBEM. I have been watching on catch-up and am a teary emotional mess every time regardless of if it's happy or sad or just a bog-standard birth!

CakesALot · 24/07/2014 21:16

The sunshine does make me happy, think of all that vitamin d! But walking home from the station is a killer! I collapse in a heap when I get in and just about manage to crawl to the freezer for an ice lolly!

Don't worry, Penguin, my lower belly is also rather fuzzy...just another one of those dignified side effects!

PresidentSpreadable · 25/07/2014 07:28

Haha cakes getting an ice lolly out the minute I get home (usually after divesting myself of 99% of my clothes on the living room floor) is exactly what I do as well.

I also seem to be rather fortunate on the whole body hair thing, mine is actually growing far more slowly and is much sparser. It's a relief as I usually spend all summer waging war on my gorilla legs!

In feeling sorry for myself news I have a hideous case is strep throat, it's crazy painful and I can barely eat. Spent all day yesterday in bed whimpering softly. Doctors today hopefully, I don't really want to take antibiotics but I think I might have to. Rubbish!

FranksBobot · 25/07/2014 09:16

I do believe today is Scan day for covent and strawbs. If I'm correct good luck ladies, looking forward to seeing your updates!
If I am wrong just ignore me and blame the heat! I think it's turned my brain to mush. Grin

FranksBobot · 25/07/2014 09:19

Hope you feel better soon president Thanks

Another member of the fuzzy belly club here, it's also got brown patches where my pigment has got darker.
