Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thanks all.

Sara- it sounds totally normal to me too. I has that wth dd and also with pregnancy. As mini says- they're well incubated :)

KeepOnPloddingOn · 07/07/2014 10:03

Vivi- you clearly have good taste in names ;)

Mini- what a wonderful idea ! I am too getting overwhelmed with the clothes and toys dd already has! Think we are going to have to move. People are indeed so lovely and just love to pamper you after a baby so I think they would be more than happy to cook for you all as opposed to shower you with masses of clothes the baby will get barely any wear out of
I may do the same :)

Good luck for scans today!

KeepOnPloddingOn · 07/07/2014 10:06

... Just following on - I also think that's why I would prefer no baby shower. It's double the gifts (from what I have experiences people often buy a gift again for the actual birth) no one wants to visit a baby empty handed! If I had double the gifts I got last time I would have literally has given masses to charity shop! Dd got LOADS!

Minibagel · 07/07/2014 10:23

That is a good point keep some friends brought gifts every time they visited in the early weeks. I had to (nicely) tell some of them off, they don't need to bring something every time!

Since having ds1 I have a new appreciation for what new parents might actually want. I love taking a whole meal over, with drinks, snacks and pud and offer to clean their bathroom or hang out the washing (sometimes you have to make them let you, people get too embarassed about these things but secretly they want you to just get stuck in. That can't just be me)

Blood test done... will get results in the post in the next week (I think that's what she said) with the "risk assessment" for Downs screening. For those who couldn't get a NT measurement essentially what they do is the same as if the bloods were taken at 12 weeks. They put all the details on the blood form with the measurements from your scan and send them off. The only difference is that blood now at 14+4 contains a stronger level of the things they look for to compensate for no NT measurement. I hope that helps (and I hope that's right)!
Back at work now - wearing my maternity work trousers for the first time as my suit trousers were too tight! Sooooo comfy! Grin

Saraswati · 07/07/2014 11:07

Thanks for the reassurance ladies, I just went to the loo Blush and feel much less crampy now. I ate an apple and felt some squirms too, so think she must be ok in there. She's definitely had a bit of a growth spurt, I look huge and my belly button is really sore, like its being stretched too far. I had it pierced when I was about 15 and took it out a few years ago when I had to have an mri scan but the hole has never healed up, will i end up with a huge gaping hole in my belly when I'm huge?! Shock

I forgot earlier, 15+3 today!

Minibagel · 07/07/2014 11:18

Just had my nt results back 1 in 240. As I had 1 in 200 with ds1 I am pleased with that result, even though its higher than you lucky ducks with 1 in 500 or 5000 or more :)

Minibagel · 07/07/2014 11:19

Glad you are feeling a bit better sara I think your piercing hole will be fine, I don't think it'll stretch beyond repair. But if it does, well hey you got a tiny human out of the deal

13+1

Minibagel · 07/07/2014 11:36

Dh and I are planning a baby moon for before I get too big. We'll take ds1 with us. Has anyone any recommendations for self catering places in norfolk, devon, cornwall please?

Saraswati · 07/07/2014 11:41

you're right mini the little one will be worth ruining my body for :) It's very weird to feel that I've totally lost control of how my body looks!

glad you got your results back too, that is low risk! Someone said to me work out what the percentage is and when you think of it like that its a tiny risk (im not good at maths but yours must be less than 0.5%).

MightyQuinn what time are you going to FMC? I'll be there for my Michael scan at 6.30. You don't need a full bladder. They are absolutely lovely there, I found it a very positive experience. Message me if you want to know more x

Camsie30 · 07/07/2014 12:07

Thanks Madrigals. Having had the test results back as very low risk I'm not worried. Just looking forward to seeing my wriggly bean again! Scan #6, this is the most photographed foetus in history. It will probably be posing! Haha x

KeepOnPloddingOn · 07/07/2014 13:13

Camsie- 6 scans! That's lovely :)

Sara- I had my belly done years ago- the hole never stretched so fear not :)

Mini- I am the same. When I went to visit my friend recently I was really anxious to not stay too long- I hate guests that did rhis to me! - I was overwhelmed with visitors and as lovely as it is, I didn't like it. The midwives are very strict about this though- they will tell people off for you of needed hehe. Everyones different, I am very sociable - bit still, after just giving birth I was in no state to entertain. Now that I have been there I am always very careful when visiting friends / family with a newborn and like you mini I do what I can to help. I have friends though who literally want the whole world and their mother round to idolise their baby :) so no way is right or wrong- but most I know wanted space. I am even considering have no visitors at the hospital- I remember trying to breast feed with a catheter in and a needle and drip to my hand whilst dh family visited- WAY too much. I was so ill. Never again.

cheshirem2b · 07/07/2014 13:19

Interesting discussion about visitors.

I think we are going to say parents only at the hospital to limit visitors (DHs parents live in lake district and rely on their other son to drive as they are older and so I doubt they would come to hospital anyway).

When we get home I think I will ask people to text me or DH and we will set up a "rota system" for visitors so we can space them out and have some time with just the three of us. Whether that will work or not remains to be seen but we will try! Smile

Smudgy is definitely growing here - I have a small bump (plus the usual flab) and getting stretching pains. Nice to know that s/he is growing in there! Grin

Saraswati · 07/07/2014 13:31

I'm with you cheshire funnily enough DH and I spoke about this last night and we are saying parents and siblings only at the hospital, then we will let everyone else know how we get on when we get home. My brother did the same and nobody thought anything of it.

thanks keepon ! i was worried it would be like one of those stretched out ear holes that people have Shock

Minibagel · 07/07/2014 13:35

We had parents and siblings/their partners and kids etc at hospital with ds1 and I found it all a bit much, like you keep. I think i'm going to keep it to parents only and say no presents in hospital, I had zero energy for all that after pushing a baby out. It sounds really ungrateful to some I'm sure, but when you are exhausted all you want is to sleep, rest and feed your baby. I didn't really feel up to congratulations.

LulusMiniEgg · 07/07/2014 13:54

Unless I'm in hospital for a while I'm not sure we'll have the hospital visitors problem. My parents are off on holiday around my due date, DH's parents live over 200 miles away, his sister lives in oz, his bro is in the raf and currently posted abroad. Will only have my bro and sis around! Quite glad as I think it will take me a while to figure out what I'm doing!

Talking of bps mine has disappeared over the weekend - very strange, hope it comes back soon!x

SK28 · 07/07/2014 13:57

Hello everyone! I just found this thread - it's so nice to be able to chat with people at the same stage :) I'm 12+1 with my first, and have my first scan tomorrow, so we are both very excited - and will also feel so relieved to have someone confirm everything is okay and as expected :)

Camsie30 · 07/07/2014 14:02

Welcome SK and good luck tomorrow!

sleepisforthetired · 07/07/2014 14:05

Will pop back for a proper read later - just place marking :)
