Thanks chinese x

We have been looking at double pushchairs for weeks ikkle and although we won't be buying any clothes as we have unisex stuff from ds1, I have been doing lots of research into breastfeeding. I've even found a donor milk site just in case it takes me and dc a while to get to grips with it. Talk about over preparedness.

As for the birth, I am undecided between an early epidural, a water birth and a home birth. I know, quite different!

Thread SIX! Wow, evening all...

OMG you lot are TOO SPOOKY....

I'm seriously freaking out on the names & coincidences...

Otto and Samson are in my top 5 for boys and I'm also considering Mathilde (nn Matty) and Marguerite too!! I'm just shocked as these are all really quite unusual names IMO. My Nanny was Margaretta so thinking of Marguerite/Margot/Margaretta for middle name.

Minibagel... I'm E. Mids too! Leicestershire....

I've been away all weekend camping with some of our best pals and told them on Saturday night (after I heard them whispering about my lack of alcohol consumption). It was best reaction yet, screaming and crying and jumping up and down in the middle of a peaceful Peak District campsite. Although convo soon turned to the dreaded BABY SHOWER which they are both insisting on. I reluctantly agreed we could have a camping 'shower' instead with no gifts and to include DHs (so basically just a camping trip)!!

sunshineandbiscuits · 06/07/2014 21:54

Camsie a friend of mine recommended Red Herring maternity clothes as well. Had a look online, they seemed to have some nice stuff so will go and check it out in Debenhams soon. I think I can get away with my own stuff for a few more weeks, might start stealing DW's clothes soon as she is a size bigger than me Wink

ikkle we will christen DC as we are both more-or-less practicing COE. Totally agree with mini that it is a good thing to give kids, even if they choose to opt out of the religious stuff later on, we both think it's part of our heritage.

Definitely no baby shower here, but if people want to come and see the baby after it's born and bring a pressie, I guess we won't say no!

13+4 today. Had a lovely weekend finally telling lots of friends, it was nice hearing lots of excited reactions Smile. I started my first baby knitting project too - we've done lots of knitting before for friends' babies and it is so cool finally to do some for our own DC!!!

Saraswati and j200 I have added your dates too. Hope I've done it right.

Agggh baby showers. I much prefer the "sip and see" option. It seems wrong to have people buy gifts for the baby before it's born. But then I'm putting the pram I've just bought in the garage rather than the house, and I never walk under ladders...

:D

blizy · 06/07/2014 22:00

Sara's a like the idea of the "sip and see".
No baby shower for me either.
Dh an I are both atheist so no christening for us, although we are thinking of a naming ceremony instead. we will have our civil celebrant do the service, she conducted dd's funeral and our wedding so it would feel like dd is included with the new baby celebrations.

ilovelamp78 · 06/07/2014 22:32

Oh you lot are organised! Haven't thought about christening or baby shower at all. Probably won't do either. I'm non practicing CoE and DH is atheist.

If anyone is on the PC, my 16wk appt is 17th July and my 20wk scan is 20th Aug. After all that postbox watching for the first scan, they just organised my next one with me at the antenatal clinic . Handy!

A sip and see does sound fun! We have a 2 yo who isn't christened as we are Christian but not c of e and not really churchey. Have been thinking about bobbing along to a Quaker meeting but so far that's not happened.

Vivi - that really is spooky! Maybe Marguerite isn't that 'out there' after all...will keep encouraging DH. :)

So I made it to t de f. DH knew back roads that weren't closed and so we managed a 20 min stroll to the road and I took a picnic chair. There was still room to sit when DH told others I was pg - they went from grumpy faces to looking after me. DS (2) got one of the free spotty hats they threw out too! It was great but I was so tired after.

Lovely memories to treasure.

KeepOnPloddingOn · 07/07/2014 06:42

No christening here. Dh is atheist and I am no religious , but have my own conception of god/ higher power. I like the idea of my dc being able to choose what religion rhey are / are not a part of.

As for baby showers... Gulp. My last pregnancy I had friends begging me to do one, but no... Not for me at all. I have never quite got it. Happy for all the gifts on a the baby is actually here of course :) I know many who have them though- they seem fun.

I'm loaded with a cold and on all day dog sitting my friends pup today with dd. gonna be a long day. She is not the sort of one year old who enjoys being indoors much (little renegade!)

Looking forward having another go at the cvs tomorrow. I really hope they do it this time. This way I would have answers by end of week. Interestingly I was speaking to my sis last night and and she had the same high risk result for downs 16 years ago -she can't remember if it was her bloods bit assumes so as her Scan was ok and she was only 22..(her ds did not have it) and also got told she had suspected lukeimia a few years later (she didn't ) - this was all down to what the docs described as her 'erratic blood' - odd, but true! This gives me hope as my bloods have always been a bit dodgy too. Maybe it's just our family!
13+4!

Scan tomorrow. Really excited. I had a crazy baby shower for my first. Hardly anyone came to my hen do so I invited more people to my baby shower and they all turned up. It was crazy. My lovely best friend organised all sorts of activities despite being very ill at the time. I recommend guess the baby food flavour as a game. She's died now so don't feel I could have another one without her.

Camsie30 · 07/07/2014 08:28

Cherry that sounds like a wonderful memory to have of your best friend. I'm sorry that's she's not with you for this baby.

I've always been a bit anti baby showers, until I went to a friend's a few weeks ago and it was so lovely! Afternoon tea at a gorgeous hotel in Soho, games that we're not at all naff, and lovely friends. My mum really wants to throw one for me so I think I'll let her!!

Good luck to everyone with scans this week xx

ViviPru · 07/07/2014 08:28

Keep it sounds very feasible that it's your family 'erratic blood' that's thrown up these results. Fingers crossed you have a straightforward time with the next cvs!

Oooooh... New thread!

Well we have 26wk apt with mw on 22/7/14, 20wk scan (a bit late as we're away) on 21/8/14 and I've got a clinic apt on 1/9/14.

Im definitely showing now and can feel my uterus (especially in the evenings)

No baby shower for us but definitely christening as both CofE and practicing at Chester Cathedral so got to have cathedral christening!

We spent the weekend decorating the house. I'm shattered and pulled my back so not looking forward to work. Got my blood tests first though (couldn't do nt measurement)... wish us luck ladies!

MightyQuin1201 · 07/07/2014 08:33

So very sorry to hear about the loss of your best friend Cherrypi, you must be missing her tons right now.

I'm off to the fetal medicine centre today for my harmony test and therefore my first scan. Pretty nervous and have no idea what to expect. Am I supposed to go with a full bladder?

11+2 (although FMC count me nearer 10w due to long cycle)

cheshirem2b · 07/07/2014 08:48

Oops, forgot...14+4!

cheshirem2b · 07/07/2014 08:49

Good luck Quin

blizy · 07/07/2014 09:09

Good luck mighty, I would go with a full bladder.

Saraswati · 07/07/2014 09:26

morning all - good luck today to those with scans and to you keep i really hope they can do your cvs today and you can get some answers soon. That does sound interesting about your sisters bloods, there must be something in that that has affected your results.

I have been to some nice baby showers but I'm quite superstitious and don't want too much baby stuff before until the baby is here safely. Obviously I'll get the essentials but i don't want to tempt fate! Also I'm a complete control freak and want to choose most of the baby stuff with DH lol ! We have decided we want the joolz day for our pram but need to go and road test it and I've pretty much decided on the nursery furniture too.

Been very crampy and achey since yesterday and jesus has been a little quiet, hope she's just squashed somewhere and thats why i can't feel her. I'm trying not to obsess about it as I know it's far too early for regular movement. My boobs have had a massive growth spurt too and had weird white stuff on my nipples this morning when i got up :o surely it's too early to have milky stuff going on?

Marguerite is definitely an unusual name, you must just have excellent taste :)

vivi I thought you might be near as we talked about mindful mama! Yay! And what a great reaction from your friends.

We had a baby shower for ds1 and despite reservations it was lovely! Afternoon tea and a few silly games which I got online (quizes etc), it made a nice party even though I'm not a party person. I would definitely recommend. Even though all the gifts are a bit embarassing and I felt so huge on the day that nothing I had fit me so I didn't really feel my best. I really dont want gifts this time as we are quite into 'compact living' ie not loads of crap everywhere! Plus we have everything we need from ds1. So I have come up with the idea of asking for meals to stock up the freezer if people want to give us anything. People love to look after you once the baby is here but they dont want to intrude and sometimes they just need a little pointer in the direction that will help you most :) The other thing that would be a massive help is someone to come and clean the house in the early weeks but I'm not sure I'm up to asking for that apart from my mum!

Good luck for today quin

13+1

Minibagel · 07/07/2014 09:51

sara I bet baby is having a growth spurt and those cramps are the normal healthy stretching kind. Don't worry, I had them loads throughout ds1 pg, and get them every few weeks with this pg. Cramps as in braxton hicks are more common if you are dehydrated as you probably know so keep up the water consumption :) and movements aren't usually felt all the time until 24+ weeks when baby is much bigger. Remember they have so much padding with the organs around the uterus and if they are moving towards the back they are not going to be felt as they'll be shock absorbed by bowels etc.
