I'm not even thinking prams. We're getting SILs travel system (can't remember which one, but it's red!) and I want to sling as much as possible till TinyHippy gets a bit heavier. However, I am already coveting a Tripp Trapp high chair Grin! And my initial desire to reduce, reuse and recycle seems to be waning... Replaced with a desire to buy All The Things!

lindamagoo · 28/06/2014 14:17

Love the slings, took ds1 everywhere in his Smile Out of all the big things the pram is the only thing we are buying new and that's only because the boys both had their own new ones and I've always been pram obsessed Smile

Spotti · 28/06/2014 14:29

I'm having issues with prams. I have a slipped disc in my spine and a weak pelvis as a result and so struggle with pushing a pram if the handle is above waist height (I can't even push an empty shopping trolley without having to then go to the chiropractors!) sooooo I'm currently looking for something that won't break me every time I use it...and if what I need doesn't exist, I'm making my own (MrSpotti is a very clever engineer and would easily be able to build me something if I told him what I need it to do)!

Planning on using a sling for the first few months anyway (until LO gets too heavy/wriggly) as there's no other way around being able to see my horse since everyone else will be at work/in bed so no one to watch them in the mornings sooo I'll have a few extra months to get building Wink.

lindamagoo · 28/06/2014 14:58

The handles on both the prams I had could be set at 3 levels and I'm sure the lowest level was below waist height so you should be able to get one that's suitable Smile

fancyacupoftea · 28/06/2014 15:38

The Bugaboo Bee is really low as a pram - it has an adjustable handle but not sure how low it goes...

Yes definitely going to 'sling' too (that's a whole new decision then - which one?!). DH says he wants the pushchair that "looks coolest". This could be a long process.

PolytheneGirl · 28/06/2014 15:43

I really want to do the sling thing this time round too. I fell down the stairs and hurt my back when DS was 5wks old and couldn't carry him very well for ages, then he was too big. Any recommendations?

I'd just like to say, I'm wearing my new M&P jeggings and I may never get changed again, sooooo comfy!

Tilly28 · 28/06/2014 15:45

All this pram talk is getting me excited however whenever I go in "baby" shops I feel abit of a fraud as only 13 weeks and don't really want to buy anything yet! :-) Had my test results back today for the Down syndrome screening and it's was 1:20767 so that has made me sigh with relief! How is everyone feeling on the exhaustion front? I had started to feel a little better I thought but the last few days iv been shattered again! Can't decide if it's pregnancy related or just because it's nearly the end of the school year (or abit of both!)

fancyacupoftea · 28/06/2014 16:10

I'm 13 weeks today Tilly and the exhaustion hits when I get home from work and doesn't really shake off until I go to bed. Really stressed though as have a lot of work to do in the evenings at the moment and I can't get out of it. Just feel like I'm not looking after myself.

Spotti · 28/06/2014 16:16

That's good to know linda but I think I'm still going to have issues Confused. I think part of my problem comes from needing to push from the middle of my body...I'm perfectly fine pushing and tipping a really full/heavy wheelbarrow, but ask me to push an empty shopping trolley or even an empty one of those 'old lady' trollies and I'm f*cked. Hmmm, wheelbarrow pram - now there's an idea...

PolytheneGirl · 28/06/2014 16:18

I'm still exhausted and I'm nearly 16wks now. I really thought I'd be over it by now. The ms has gone apart from when I smell something iffy or in the evenings when I'm utterly exhausted. I'm still waiting for the bliss of the second trimester to arrive.

Spotti · 28/06/2014 16:23
  • forgot to explain the reason why I'm ok with the narrow but not with anything else >doh

Today feels like a takeaway night. Maybe Chinese or Thai....

freneticfox · 28/06/2014 18:58

fancy we just had a Chinese. So happy right now. Food coma imminent.

MademoiselleG · 28/06/2014 19:54

AH - slings! Well, I am bit of a one-woman reviewer for them as we had All.The.Slings. I just couldn't decide for ages which ones I liked or didn't.

The scarf-type slings (like Moby wrap) are BRILLIANT when baby is really small but a bit faffy - as in: I could do it totally fine but dh always got it wrong and really stressed me out with it! They are also so soft to the touch, easy to wash and serve multiple purposes: emergency blanket, emergency pick-nick rug, burp cloth, breast-feeding 'modesty' scarf etc... and are breathable in the summer, unlike the polyester ones which gave us both really sweaty backs (and fronts, but that's pretty much inevitable if that's where you are carrying baby).

I personally didn't like the baby-bjorn at all : had really bad sciatica post pregnancy and the weight distribution is all wrong, all on the shoulders and pulled on my lower back. Also felt that dd's thighs were constricted and that her head wasn't well supported. But loads of people have it and love it!

Baba-sling: never worked it out, felt really unsafe. Again: we probably did it wrong.

And the winner was: the Erg-baby. Great newborn insert, great to carry on front or back and particularly brilliant when the littlies get heavier as the weight is very well distributed across the back and the hips. We actually still occasionally put dd in it as a rucksack for when we go on uneven terrains or somewhere where prams are impractical!

(Phew - anything to keep me from thinking. Give me more jobs to do!)

MademoiselleG · 28/06/2014 19:55

*ERGO-baby

(oh but beware, loads of fakes on ebay, dh nearly got fooled)

fancyacupoftea · 28/06/2014 20:06

Excellent reviews Mademoiselle! Which ergo-baby? The original? I definitely want a cloth sling too to wear around the house mainly.

We had chinese. It was okay but am always slightly disappointed.

PolytheneGirl · 28/06/2014 20:09

I ate too much. I can't move! I hope DH is expecting "sexy time" tonight. Lol. Happy anniversary DH!

fancyacupoftea · 28/06/2014 20:25

Oh in which case you can use my favourite position Poly. It's called the 'starfish'...

PolytheneGirl · 28/06/2014 20:27

Is it rude if I start snoring in the "starfish" position?

Spotti · 28/06/2014 20:27

Just googled "ergo-baby" and found this...I'm assuming store.ergobaby.com/shopthese are the ones you mean made? I'm liking the one with the stars on (I wonder if they do the teal one with stars?) They look relatively expensive for what they are, but if you can use them for longer than when LO is just a tiny tot then I suppose it's worth the investment...always good to know that it won't cripple your back too!

fancyacupoftea · 28/06/2014 20:32

If you weren't pregnant I'd suggest starfishing on your front...

I want an ergo-baby and a boba sling. THANKS.

PolytheneGirl · 28/06/2014 20:42

Spotti here's the uk site Ergobaby

Spotti · 28/06/2014 20:43
