babybutton that's so cute that your children are bringing you little outfits. And great that you've been able to get back to work - I hope you continue to feel stronger. Glad you're OK after your fall - that must have been so scary. I had to go to the labour ward the other day too, as I had a tiny bit of spotting. I wasn't worried as it happened to me at exactly the same time last pg, but as I have low-lying placenta this time they wanted to check it out. Then it turns our that their protocol dictates that they have to advise you to stay in for 24 hours for monitoring, at which point I ran screaming for the exit, but not before they made me write and sign a disclaimer to the effect that I was discharging myself against medical advice.

They also tried to get me to write that I would be with a responsible adult at all times for the next 24 hours. As opposed to a feckless idiot, presumably. I politely declined to write that, obvs. Also got told off by three separate people for not having my mat notes on me. I felt like a 12-year-old by the time I left.

Only vaguely entertaining bit was the woman behind the curtains next to me howling and refusing to do as the MW suggested and move around to give gravity a chance. 'It's going to be a long day if you stay on the bed', said he. 'I can't move', said she. 'Will she have to have an operation', asks her husband. MW: 'What for?'; H: 'to get the baby out'. MW: 'Probably not, unless she carries on lying there for the next few hours'. Oh dear.

And then DD came down with a vomiting bug that night, and was sick, I exaggerate not, about 18 times between then and yesterday afternoon, so I was home with her all day. It's been an interesting couple of days!

Hopeful83 · 09/07/2014 18:58

Congratulations Ellie on your engagement and the happy scan news from others. Babybutton, how scary. I am glad you're both ok. I have tripped over chair legs, things children leave on the floor etc so many times at work, it's so easily done.

My belly button is also very flat and disappearing, I also hope it does not turn into an outie.

When is everyone getting their nursery furniture? We should have the decorating finished in the next 2-3 weeks including carpet fitted. I have been told the range I have chosen will take 7 weeks to be delivered, so I am keen to order it soon, so it arrives while I am off during the summer holidays. I am 23 weeks now, so I would be 30 weeks when it arrives. Is this too early and tempting fate?

I really wanted to spend the summer getting the room ready. Feel like I want to nest now...

Annarose2014 · 09/07/2014 18:58

I think my stretchmarks have just started. Was feeling very heavy in the bump all day and when walking the dog felt very "pulled" if you know what I mean.

So I wondered if I was noticeably bigger and went to the loo and pulled up my top and there were four pale pink stripes running from the left down to the belly button. And I'm pretty sure I would have remembered scratching myself up there. Sad

Am suprisingly upset! Ridiculous I know. But my mum had none and I honestly wasn't expecting any!

Am fearful this'll be the one thing that knocks my confidence. Someone on MN said "I looked like I'd been mauled by a tiger" and it stuck in my head and I've been freaked out ever since!

Sad
Strawberryfield12 · 09/07/2014 19:45

The scan today went good - it's a girl!!! And she is all well and healthy nothing wrong was found. :) She was playing with her toes most of the scan, when we came and looked at the pictures, spotted that in one she was with two middle fingers up... No manners yet! :D
I will have to go for another scan as the placenta is appeared bit low though. Will just have to keep fingers crossed that it all works out by third trimester...

PosyFossilsShoes · 09/07/2014 19:58

Anna when I hit puberty I went from no chest to a C cup in the course of a summer holiday, and inevitably ended up with stretch marks on my newly acquired boobs. They look awful when they're first there because they're red but they do fade, and there are lotions and potions you can get to reduce them, so get oiling! My original ones vanished and I'm expecting the new set to do the same. I hope that's reassuring!

Congratulations Strawberry!

Annarose2014 · 09/07/2014 20:35

Thanks Posy I had a vent and a bit of a wobble with DH and he was adorable as always, so I feel a bit better now. And a little silly. Blush

Am still desperately hoping I did just unconsciously scratch myself though! Grin

Congrats Strawberry how wonderful and exciting!!! My friends placenta was low but as she got massive it did move up all on its own. Or maybe the baby just moved down!

amylou85 · 09/07/2014 20:43

Blamber my boyfriend is the same as you, completely uninterested in marriage and I worry that I'll feel left out with a different surname:(

Anna My bellybutton has always been an 'inbetweeny' (looks a bit like a cats arse which is why I got it pearced) but as of yet it hasn't got shallower! Only 20 weeks tho so there is time.

Babybutton you must have been so worried about your fall! Working in a classroom is a health hazard isn't it, the amount of children who bump into my bump too! Glad that you are OK.

Hopeful I haven't got nursery furniture yet but 7 weeks for it to arrive has scared me! I should get a move on!!

Strawberry Congratulations!! A little girl!

I had my scan today and it is also a little girl!! (Altho sonographer was very non commital, 'I didn't see any male [arts, I can't see anything, BUT it could be tucked under, so it might be a girl BUT it might not'....Thanks.
They thought I had a low lying placenta as baby's head was right on the birth canal so I had to go for a 20 min wander and come back and thank goodness all was fine, or else I would of had to go back at 36 weeks for a scan too!

She struggled to get a photo for me and then said 'Oh the pallet doesn't look right, I'm off to get a second opinion' so I sh@t myself. But she brought a guy in who said 'No no it looks fine! She's got beautifully formed lips there's nothing wrong'. So not the most relaxing of scans! I want to book a private one for in 6 weeks to check pallet and sex as she was sooo unsure of herself!!

haventgotaclue1 · 09/07/2014 20:48

Congratulations Strawberry and Ellie Grin - 2 bits of great news!

Hopeful re the nursery furniture, I'm also really keen to get the cotbed and chest of drawers/changing thing I've seen but am nervous that it's too early and could be tempting fate (although do realise that there is absolutely no connection between the timing of me buying furniture and the health of bean Blush).

DH is currently decorating the to-be nursery and has sensibly pointed out that if we get it now, it will just sit there gathering dust for 4 months but I still really want to get it NOW. Think we've "compromised" and will wait another month to get it and by the time it arrives I'd be 30 weeks as well. So, no definitely not too soon - go for it!!! Grin

amylou85 · 09/07/2014 20:56

Elliekins and Bookscatsshoes just updated you on googledoc docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1R431jksFno5g123NfH7q4BlgS6r6ZdadiZqFyvvKAeY/edit?pli=1#gid=0 when I updated myself.

So far: 5 boys and 8 girls! Plus lots of surprises and secrets!

pinkgirlythoughts · 09/07/2014 21:12

Hi everyone- very long time no see, my grandad died unexpectedly about 6 weeks ago, combined with lots of work-related stress, means I've not made it onto the thread for aaaages! Nearly the summer holidays (finally!), so hopefully I'll be a little bit better at keeping up from now on!
We had our 20 week scan a couple of weeks ago, couldn't believe how much more detailed it was than my scan with DS nearly 4 years ago. She closed in on its little face, and we could see its lips opening and closing! The woman doing the scan was lovely, she explained everything she was doing, and even let DS and my grandma (who was minding DS in the waiting room) come in to have a peek. Despite my grandma's best attempts at persuasion, we decided not to find out the sex. I do get to go back for another one next week though, as baby was laid in a funny position so the sonographer couldn't get all the measurements she wanted. I think she would normally have asked us to come back a bit later, but we were the last appointment of the day and she wanted to go home!

Those of you working in schools, do your children know you're pregnant? Despite various people at work telling me how 'enormous' I am (the ladies in the kitchen even asked if I was having twins, and when I said no, one asked if I was sure?!!) not one of the children has said anything yet!

PosyFossilsShoes · 09/07/2014 21:44

Sorry to hear about your grandad, pinkgirlythoughts.

The scans are amazing, aren't they!

Strawberryfield12 · 09/07/2014 21:47

Thank you all!

amylou congratulations! When the sonographer was looking at the legs and bottom we both thought we saw the boy's bits (very similar to what we saw in one video re: 20 week ultrasound). Then later she went checking specifically for the gender and announced it was a girl. It was a bit of surprise and DH asked how she could tell, so she pointed us out all the girly bits and we just had to admit we dont have much clue about what we see there unless we are pointed out. And we just have to believe that it defo is a girl!

Alita7 · 09/07/2014 22:37

Congrats on those girls!

My belly button is ruined haha its not quite out yet but it's all stretched and weird!

Congrats on the lovely scan news guys.
And in other news...Robert Downey jr is expecting in nov with us...now I know he's not a mum but I'm all for inviting him to join this thread Wink who's with me? Grin

amylou85 · 09/07/2014 23:11

pinkygirlythoughts I told my children when I was about 15 weeks and explained that they would see me get bigger and that I wouldn't have it until they'd gone up to Y2. I announced it was a girl today and they all looked at me, paused for 5 seconds and I thought it went down like a lead balloon, but then they all cheered and started trying to hug my bump!
All the mums congratulated me it made me quite tearful!

And Kate oh yes I think robert downey junior would fit right in!!

Petal26 · 09/07/2014 23:58

Congratulations on the lovely scan news ladies!

Still got a bit of a belly button here but it's not going to be long!

We have chosen new furniture for DD as she is moving into the other bedroom and baby will have her room. It won't take too long to be delivered but I want it all decorated and finished before I go back to school in September so am allowing myself the summer holidays to get everything ready. I REALLY don't want anything to do as I go back to school!

School trip today, totally wiped me out, fell asleep at 7pm and then woke up at 9:30pm, two hours of report writing, time for bed again I think!

I waited to tell my class until I knew what it was, I had told one parent and so some of them had heard it from their parents as it got passed around the playground!

Tigsy · 10/07/2014 00:30

Sorry I've been away from here for a while- just trying to catch up with you all. Lovely seeing the last of the scans rolling in..... I still can't believe we have all come so far, it's very exciting!

Congratulations Ellie and sorry to hear about your grandad pinkgirlythoughts

I had reduced movements all of yesterday and then today felt virtually nothing so eventually called the maternity unit and they asked me to come in. Everything was fine though- I think baby has just changed position which is why it feels different as DH and I both noticed my bump shape has changed! Glad I went and got checked though as still haven't felt much movement since, so I'd have still been worrying if I hadn't been in....

Good luck to those still with scans to come!

Alita7 · 10/07/2014 08:59

We already have Mrs Robert Downey junior on here ;)

Such lovely scan news and an engagement! Happy times on the thread indeed :)

My belly button is halfway out, it'll look hilarious when it pops because the half out got very brown on holiday but the half is is bright white. (DP says it looks like the end of a hot dog - he says the sweetest things)

I also worried about the baby and DP having a different surname but a wedding just isn't on the priority list right now so I'm in the process of changing my name by deed poll so we'll all be the same by the time the baby is here.

ToniWol · 10/07/2014 10:14

Congrats on the engagement Ellie and sorry to hear about your Grandad pink.

Not a teacher but a Guider - told the girls last week (the Guides as we were going bowling this week and the Brownies as two of my Guides are Pack Leaders). Had to re tell the Brownies though as not many there last week.

A bit TMI but currently in a very odd place. Am hoping I have thrush as there was some blood this morning but as it's highly possible I do have Thrush (on Antibiotics for an infected bug bite) I could have scratched myself. Community midwife said to keep a eye on and if it gets worse to call back. If it doesn't get worse am going to go to the walk in clinic tonight to see if it is Thrush.

Elliekins · 10/07/2014 11:39

Very sorry to hear about your grandad Pink. Thanks

To be honest with our current spiralling outgoings and general financial gloominess, a wedding won't be on the cards for at least two or three years, it's just a lovely 'statement of intent'.
We have always kept our finances very much separate and have only just realised what a mess DP has got himself into with stupid APR on his credit cards and a car loan he can't really afford - the car is being downgraded very soon!

It hadn't occurred to me about Deed-poll but that's not a bad idea, his surname is nicer than mine and would be lovely to have the same name from the outset.
My concern would be that now I have a ring and if we have the same name by the time the baby is born, he might never actually get around to the 'wedding bit'!
TBH I think he may have been motivated to propose because I said that the baby would have my surname if he had no intention of marrying me!

booksshoescats · 10/07/2014 13:31

Congratulations Strawberry and amylou, and thanks for updating the googledoc for me.

Annarose I didn't get stretchmarks in my last PG, and none so far in this one, but I do have them on both hips/thighs from a teenage growth spurt and they were only pink very briefly but are now very slightly raised in the case of the worst ones but completely flesh coloured - I think they just look a bit dramatic for the first few month, but I've seen friends' ones from pregnancy and you can hardly see anything a few years down the line.

Pink Really sorry about your grandad Sad. Sounds like a lovely scan you had - how nice to have your grandma there, too.

PosyFossilsShoes · 10/07/2014 16:44

Those who are thinking of changing names, you don't need a "deed poll" and although there are some terribly official looking sites they're privately run (e.g. UK Deed Poll Service) they're not statutory.

A statutory declaration is all that you need, i draw them up all the time for work and I will be happy to send you the template for free, just send me a private message with your email address. Then you take it to your local high street solicitor and ask them to witness it for you, which you'd need to do anyway, and they should charge you a fiver.

That's thirty quid you didn't spend on getting a solicitor or private service to do it which you can spend on wine when the baby gets here!

weeonion · 10/07/2014 16:56

Evening folks! It is such beautiful weather here - roasting with the internal hot water bottle! Wont complain though. Am keeping an eye on sunburn and face as my freckles seem to be merging into 1!!

Dp and I aren't married and no intention to either ( my wish! I decided when I was 7 that I didn't want to be married and have stuck with that) DP has proposed 2x but know he isn't that keen. DD has a double barreled surname with both of ours in it and this one will too. If there was s civil partnership open to mixed sex couples - would consider that maybe....

Twizzzy · 10/07/2014 17:17

Congratulations on all the scan and engagement news. Very exciting Smile

Very busy end of term at the moment so not been on here much. I'm really looking forward to the holidays. We are leaving for a week in France as soon as I break up from school. I am also camping for a week with my guides when I will be 26 weeks. Anyone got any tips about camping when pregnant? Really looking forward to having some time to prepare properly for the baby. The aim is to have all the main stuff sorted by the beginning of term as I'm then planning on working until half term.

My waistline has started to expand rapidly this week but so far have avoided stretch marks and my belly button is intact. However I'm resigned to the worst with the stretch marks as got quite a lot during puberty so am obviously susceptible.

Could someone add me to the google doc if possible - I too am always on my phone. Dc1 due 12/11/14 boy. Thanks
