Yep sunshine . DS is 2.8 and I speak only English to him. DH and everyone else in his daily life speak dutch to him (nursery, ILs). We skype my DM or Dsis every week so languages are on a par, though we see a jump in his English whenever we've been to the UK or had visitors over. It's going well though there is some language confusion sometimes when he mixes, but very normal at this age.

sunshineandbiscuits · 07/06/2014 14:15

That's really cool Engels. I was brought up English and German speaking and it's a great thing to have. I'm going to ask my DM to speak German to DC though she lives in a different country so Skype will have to play a pretty major role!

CallingAllEngels · 07/06/2014 14:25

I love them so much vivi - I wish they did non-maternity clothing! I'm wondering if I can justify buying one of the more evryday dresses for the last 3 months I'm working (will be 22 weeks when the new school year starts and will work till 36 weeks). Blush

mslad DH always said he didn't want to get married which I was fine with, then he proposed when I was 4 mpg and we got married 3months later. I think he realised how much simpler it would make things legally. I took his surname mainly because I wanted to have the same surname as DS, though haven't changed my passport yet as it's still got 2 years on it and it costs a bloody fortune to renew form abroad.

However, if he hadn't wanted to get married I would have been a little Hmm about him insisting on using his surname. Though over here you have to register the baby's name at city hall within 3 days, and obviously the mother may not be in the right state to do that (I definitely wasn't....I didn't go downstairs for 48 hours when I got back from hospital!). DH threatened all sorts of weird names!

CallingAllEngels · 07/06/2014 14:27

And actually, another reason I took his name is because it sounds better than mine in Dutch (years of having my name mispronounced - I also sound foreign and exotic now when I'm in the UK!).

sunshineandbiscuits · 07/06/2014 15:08

Hehe Engels one of the main reasons DW took my name (I'm English but have a foreign name) rather than the other way round when we got married is that she thought it looked much cooler than hers! Although we have condemned our DCs to a lifetime of having to spell their names. Better give them straightforward first names I guess!

Mslad · 07/06/2014 15:16

Thanks calling I know it's not the biggest deal in the world, just as you said, it's a bit Hmm as to why it should automatically be his. I suspect I'll be the one to back down. Also, his surname is much nicer than mine which really doesn't help my case!

We are going to a wedding in September when I will be about 22 weeks. I love those TiffanyRose dresses- am definitely going to treat myself to one for the wedding.

Have had to buy new bras today. First thing that I have grown out of. Only bought 2 incase I keep growing!

KatnissEvermean · 07/06/2014 15:41

I like my surname, but I'm going to take it as a middle name and I'm going to use it as my child's middle name too. Me and my partner are in agreement on names so far, as we have some nice family names to use. I used my favourite boys names on our cats, he thinks we can change the cats name to something similar sounding and use it for a child instead though!

I think the children growing up bilingual are really lucky. I am amazed at how some people I know who grew up with two languages just switch halfway through a conversation (with people who understand both) to whichever language is easiest to express themselves in. I love hearing it.

LulusMiniEgg · 07/06/2014 16:37

So I'm already the worst mother ever - supposed to go to a midwife appointment today but hadn't read letter properly so didn't go! Had a message on my answer phone. Feel absolutely awful and got told off by the hospital. Will make sure DH reads all letters from now on too. I'm going on Thursday and next Friday anyway so will hopefully make up for my terrible mistake. I'm so embarrassed....

ViviPru · 07/06/2014 16:45

I have absolutely zero posh frock occasions between now and new year so no excuse whatsoever to buy a Tiffany Rose dress Sad

I took DH's name because our surnames are equally dire and either way I'd have a ropey name so we may as well have the same one. Plus I was teased a bit for mine as a kid yet he says he wasn't Hmm not sure I buy that. We've talked about using my Dad's name as a middle name if we have a boy so there's a way of honouring my side in the name, seeing as DH's side is honoured in the surname...

MademoiselleG · 07/06/2014 17:32

Oooh I love the name chat! My favourite girl's name is my favourite SIL's name (I have 4 SIL!) and her mum (mil) said she's ok with it...let's see! We are also bilingual and lucky that French names are making a bit of a comeback. Our dd's name is actually getting quite popular and so is mine: used to be a granny's name and now I teach kids who have it Smile

Saraswati · 07/06/2014 17:32

Yep I took DHs surname when we married because I like it better than my maiden name! I like that all three of us will have the same name, the baby's middle names will be family names from my side so it evens it up a bit. However I don't think anyone pays close attention to naming conventions anymore - go with what you want!

I only have one wedding this year at the end of July, will only be about 17 weeks so no excuse for nice maternity frock either :(

MademoiselleG · 07/06/2014 17:37

Oh and I got married when 7 months pg and found an amazing 20s flapper dress in the sale in Phase8 - not quite my usual kind of shop, I hasten to add! It just caught my eye in John Lewis, tried it on and it was perfect! With a fur throw bought on a vintage market, the whole outfit cost me no more than £130 and I think I could probably get away with wearing it again this time round!
We did have a religious wedding the following summer after dd was born (never known a better incentive to lose the 3 stone I'd put on!) and that was a completely different dress style. It had to be custom made because of course, up until about a month before the wedding, there was no way of knowing what size I would actually be!

Good luck with finding the dress...I too wish I could step back in time and do it all over again!

RPopz · 07/06/2014 17:48

I'm going to weddings in August and September.... wondering if I'll be bumpy enough to justify one of those lovely dresses Grin

KeepOnPloddingOn · 07/06/2014 18:19

calling that dress is stunning!

Mslad · 07/06/2014 20:03

Mad we are definitely going to give the baby both names, but just use one...

calling re registering in Holland. Just last week I read about the 3 day period after birth. But you can sort it out before the birth. Dp has a very busy job & outside that he's not the most organised, I've told him unless he's proactive enough to do organise it himself, I'm not doing anything about it. I feel only a little bit guilty about that Blush

Is anyone else being really paranoid about food? I'm about to have some cremated chicken.

Those dresses look fab, I want one! Even though I've no formal events lined up.

KatnissEvermean · 07/06/2014 20:18

You have all made me feel better about dresses, there are some stunning options out there.

LuluJakey, I'm going to have to get some new bras too. I can't believe what's happening to my boobs, and there's still seven months for them to expand!

haquoi123 · 07/06/2014 22:39

Welcome Kat & congrats!

mslad you've pretty much hit on my dilemma. DH and I are married but we've kept our names. His is a single surname but really long and mine is double-barrelled. The child is definitely having all three names but I have no intention of his surname becoming the main one, I want bean to have my surname. My sis and I are the only ones with it and I want it to continue. However I feel guilty about this, even though no one but me would have qualms about it being the other way around. DH agrees but hasn't yet agreed, if you get what I mean.

Some lovely names coming up. Mine are too weird to share :)

I've got a stinking cold and am exhausted, but my dad's been here with my baby sisters so that's helped.

KeepOnPloddingOn · 08/06/2014 07:09

kat omg I agree on the boob front. I have already gone up a cup size. With my last pregnancy I went up to an E !

cheshirem2b · 08/06/2014 09:01

It was our 6th wedding anniversary yesterday so we went out for dinner and oh my was it amazing food!
Think my little smudge is having a growth spurt because I'm constantly hungry!
Out with mum today and got to stop her buying baby stuff!

ViviPru · 08/06/2014 09:08

Yy on the boob front here too. I lost 3st for my wedding last year and this year it's been like I'm going in reverse back up through all the bras I bought during the weightloss. I've taken to buying cheapo primark non-underwired bras for this interim period till they settle down.

Minibagel · 08/06/2014 10:03

Morning ladies :) How is everyone feeling today? I feel pg hungover, but unlike a real hangover I can't face a fry up.

I'm feeling so bloated although better in the mornings than at night. But I still had to breathe in to do my jeans up today :( Anyone seen any cheap but nice floaty tops? Floaty tops arent my usual style as I have a nice waist so tend to show it off but now I just look like a splodge, hardly any waist definition. Maybe I'll just start living in grecian maxi dresses?!
