So exciting all the scans that are booked over the next few weeks...

The stats

Hope that works?!

I just put it down to it being in the recesses of her subconscious and she might not have remembered where she'd first got the idea for the name. Their DD is our goddaughter so I could never use it now. Ho hum, it's only a name I suppose!

Saraswati · 07/06/2014 11:19

vivi I spoke too soon! literally just got an appointment letter from the hospital :( they've sent me a scan appointment for 13th August which I assume is my 20 week scan (I'll be 20+1 on that day!) and an appointment at the obstetrics department for 20th august. No idea what the obstetrics appointment is, I'll ring and ask on Monday but I assume it's my condition (which is unusual but only affects my mouth and is benign anyway). I was originally treated for it at my local hospital and they were shit and severed a nerve in my face when they operated on me. I now see a specialist consultant at a different hospital so I am really reluctant to go back there, I know it will have zero effect on my pregnancy. I hope the appointment is to do with that and not something they found in my bloods? Would be nice if they told you these things!! Now I have to worry all weekend and chase someone for answers on Monday grrrrrr Angry

KatnissEvermean · 07/06/2014 11:42

Can I join in here? I'm eight weeks pregnant and I've got my booking in appointment on June 16th.

Looking forward to getting to know people going through the same thing, it might reassure me I'm normal after my hormones have started getting to me and I spent half an hour crying to my partner about a lovely dog that I'd seen on TV the week before...

ViviPru · 07/06/2014 11:49

Oh what a bugger, Sara Sad hopefully it is just a formality and once they tick the box to say you've no contraindications relating to the pregnanacy/birth you'll be off the consultant hook. As someone upthread said, I think they tend to contact you immediately and let you know if it's something to do with your bloods, so fingers crossed nothing to do with that.

My condition is an arse-about-face one. I'm booked in at the hospital and under consultant care because I have a condition. But conversely the only potential effect of my resistance to local anaesthetic is the possibility I may not be able to have an epidural/other intervention available in consultant led unit. But I'm keen for non-medical midwife led care anyway! But I can't be put down for that till the consultant releases me! FML. [rolleyes emoticon]

ViviPru · 07/06/2014 11:51

Hey Katniss - know the feeling. I was inconsolable over DIY SOS last week. What a chump.

sunshineandbiscuits · 07/06/2014 11:55

Ooh, exciting to see all the name talk. Really like a lot of the suggestions here! I think we may have decided on a boys name during our holiday (and we are both totally convinced that the bean is a boy). Girl's name is easy because we both independently had the same favourite girls name before we even met (one of those that was very unusual when we were younger, now in the top 20!).

I really don't worry about friends using the same name. One of our good friends abandoned her top choice because another friend used it when she was pg, but it's not like they actually see each that often. I can see it might be harder when you see each other every day, but equally I remember being a kid and thinking it was really cool when friends had the same name. DW has the same first name as one of her first cousins and it has had absolutely zero impact. I guess it's quite personal how you feel about it though.

Welcome Katniss Smile. We're all affected with hormones here. I nearly cried this morning when DW suggested making a warm pudding with ice cream for dinner because then it would go all melty and that would be completely unacceptable. Needless to say we have eaten this a hundred times in the past.

lindamagoo · 07/06/2014 11:55

Welcome Katniss Smile oh the pregnancy hormones are a joy aren't they? My oh asked me if I was having an early night last night (that's all I seem to do lately) but because he mentioned it I got all upset thinking that he wanted me to go to bed so I'd be out of his way, lol, poor man, it wouldn't surprise me if that was the reason cause I have been a little crabby and snappy the past few days Hmm

KatnissEvermean · 07/06/2014 11:58

Haha, glad to know I'm not the only one. My family usually all joke that I'm a robot, so all these tears suddenly coming from nowhere is a huge shock!

lindamagoo · 07/06/2014 12:00

Haha sunshine your poor wife, i nearly chewed oh's head off because he ate a bit of my chow mein last night Shock

lindamagoo · 07/06/2014 12:01

Katniss is this your first pregnancy?

Saraswati · 07/06/2014 12:04

vivi how annoying! I'm worried about the same thing really, I know this won't affect pregnancy but until they say it's ok I won't be able to go to the MW led unit. I really really don't want to go to delivery suite unless I have a problem (I'm also allergic to most painkillers and the thought of them terrifies me). I think if it was something to do with the bloods they'd see me sooner than 20th August (well I'd hope so).

KatnissEvermean · 07/06/2014 12:08

It is! I'm 28, been with my partner for nine years.

It was planned, but happened more quickly than we expected. We have just booked a wedding for early September (my partner's mom is ill, and she picked the date to fit around hospital appointments!) before we realised I was pregnant, so trying to figure out how big I'll be by then and if I can get a dress that will still make me look lovely and glamorous!

ViviPru · 07/06/2014 12:14

Sara I'm allergic to pethidine too. Hopefully sense will prevail and they'll let us use the MLU, at least it's all a long way off so time to negotiate!

Katniss Good job you'd not already bought a dress!

lindamagoo · 07/06/2014 12:18

Katniss it sounds like you have a busy time coming up, thank god you hadn't bought the dress already. I hope your partners mum will be ok

CallingAllEngels · 07/06/2014 12:32

Katniss I got pg at 7 months and wore a gorgeous dress from Tiffany Rose. I'm hoping to get some more wear out of it in my 3rd trimester so will be heading out for dinner if we don't get invited anywhere! Am going to a wedding in October but am BM so dress picked for me (style that should fit with a bump!)
Sorry to hear about your DP's mum.

With names we have to find soemthing that works in English and Dutch where the pronunciation isn't too different. Thomas wouldn't work as in Ducth it's pronounced toe-mass. I think it'll just be too confusing and if my child's called Tom-as I want to call him that!

DS is slightly differnt in the vowel sound but not enough to cause a traumatic childhood Grin

For us, the only names off limits are DNs. BIL has 2 boys and I'm the only one on my side with dc so far. My Dsis refused to talk baby names with me as she didn't want me to jse her name! One of DH's colleagues called their dd one of my fave girls names a few months before ds was born (we hadn't found out the sex) and dh then said we couldn't use it. I can count on 1 hand the number of times we've socialised with them since then!

This one katniss !

KatnissEvermean · 07/06/2014 12:36

I've looked at Tiffany Rose, they have some lovely dresses and I think I'll end up choosing one of them.

I'm enjoying all this baby name talk, there are some lovely names being mentioned.

KatnissEvermean · 07/06/2014 12:45

I love that! It's gorgeous. A lot of maternity wedding dresses look quite frumpy to me, but I really like their designs - I love the Anastasia dress.

RPopz · 07/06/2014 12:53

Oooh they are lovely! Grin I lurrrve wedding dresses. Its one of my greatest regrets about being married actually - I'll never get to buy another one! Wink

sunshineandbiscuits · 07/06/2014 13:13

My parents had the pronouncable-names-in-multiple-languages problem too as my mother is German. Had to keep both of the grandmothers happy!

Are you planning on bringing up your children bilingual?

sunshineandbiscuits · 07/06/2014 13:14

Oops, forgot to say that was for engels...

cheshirem2b · 07/06/2014 13:16

Mammas and pappas have a maternity clothing sale! I've had to stop myself from ordering... Not until scan day! But for those with visible bumps there are some good deals!

ViviPru · 07/06/2014 13:21

Lots of nice stuff on that site, Engels, thanks for sharing!

Dec2013mummy · 07/06/2014 13:34

kat I was 22 weeks pregnant last year at my wedding and the bump was hardly noticeable :) if it's first it shouldn't be too big! :) how exciting

Welcome Katniss sounds like you have a busy time ahead Smile & thanks for mentioning the hormones, it made me feel better after crying for half an hour for no reason!

I'm really enjoying the baby name discussion. My DH & I can't agree at all. I like traditional names & he likes hippy names. We're together almost 12 years & have never discussed baby names - I told him I feel like I don't know him anymore Smile

Regarding names though, we're having a tricky I I ongoing discussion. From the day I met him he told me he doesn't believe in marriage & will never get married. We discussed it a lot & I'm fine with it. However now I see no logical reason why the baby should automatically get his surname? We're clearly don't follow tradition, we both don't want to use double-barrell (though have agreed we will put both names on the birth cert) but I'm really not sure how we'll get around this. I suspect I 'll end up giving in, just cos of society, but, you know..why should I?

Sorry for the long post, just wondering if anyone else faced that battle?
