I miss wine too!!!

RetroHippy · 24/05/2014 20:33

Listeria apparently. Home made is ok but I'm buggered if I'm blending my own chick peas I'm choosing to take that as one if the ones that are so rare it's not worth worrying. If you read up on it, listeria can be caused by all sorts of thinks. Most of the time it isn't. Unfortunately DH is taking everything absolutely literally Hmm

RetroHippy · 24/05/2014 20:35

*things

Loobyloo893 · 24/05/2014 20:36

I made hummus once when going through a 'DS will only eat homemade healthy food' stage (his fave food is now macdonalds!). It was horrible Wink

RPopz · 24/05/2014 20:38

Really?? Listeria is pretty rare and I imagine humous is a mega rare cause!! I can't even think what's in humous that'd have listeria.... :-s Everything in moderation I say.

RetroHippy · 24/05/2014 20:40

Exactly RPopz. This is partly the reason why he's coming to the GP with me. and to reassure him that we can have sex otherwise I'm going to go bonkers!

KeepOnKeepingOnAndOnAndOnAndOn · 24/05/2014 20:52

I have said it before and I will say it again, pregnant sex is amazebells (for many anyway)
Get him to that docs retro ;) hehe

RetroHippy · 24/05/2014 20:56

So I've heard! I don't see him going without for 9 months... I hope not anyway Hmm I think he's got some bizarre idea that I need to be kept pure now I'm carrying his child he's obviously forgotten how it got there

RPopz · 24/05/2014 21:19

Haha bless him! Must admit I didn't want to for ages and my paranoia kinda rubbed off on DH so had to persuade him I was just being silly! Did it eventually and it was definitely amazeballs :-) Only problem is I'm too bloody tired for it since!

haquoi123 · 24/05/2014 22:17

Haha, Retro, your DH sounds adorable! And seriously, pg DTD, it's mind-blowing. My DH is taking my word on everything (the only thing he questioned were the BFPs!) and pretending not to be excited. It's when he's away that he shows his true colours, as in, telling people we weren't supposed to be telling for another month and a half...

On that note, I accidentally blabbed to my Auntie, (or rather she guessed and I didn't lie quickly enough), that I'm pg and I expect it to have spread around my enormous family by the morning... whoops!

RetroHippy · 24/05/2014 23:06

I have to admit, he is being very adorable at the moment. I'm getting lots of cuddles Smile

fancyacupoftea · 25/05/2014 08:19

Ok I am freaking out now with all these banned foods I didn't realise were banned! Beansprouts? Feta? Houmous? I am obviously a very irresponsible preggo. Although - good food news. Pretty much all the soft cheese (Brie etc) from Lidl is pasteurised as it's not British and pasteurising cheese is the done thing in the rest of Europe!
Shhhloer is shhhhlit.
I told my head and line manager this week, despite being 7 weeks. I'm really glad I did as they were both great, despite it going to be very difficult to find my replacement (specialist subject and all that).

So, I may have overdone it yesterday. I went on quite a steep walk up a fell that was harder than I thought it would be, but it felt great! All good til the evening when I got some slight cramps, they felt different to usual but then didn't continue. This morning I've got a tiny bit of pink spotting, as in there on one wipe, not on the next, tiny bit on third wipe, etc. Do I need to worry?

RetroHippy · 25/05/2014 08:25

Anything you're no sure of, post here and I'll check with DH! Grin

As my mum said, she ate everything, gardened, lifted, climbed trees etc (went into labour with DB whilst pruning!)
And we turned out fine...

I bought 'Expecting Better' having seen it recommended loads on here. It's really interesting, analyses the facts and looks at how reliable data is. Basically, toxo is a risk, so raw meat and licking your fingers after gardening are out, but listeria is very hard to avoid if there's an outbreak as it can be on anything (melons and celery iirc), so just eat normally.

And deli meats only includes uncooked cured meats. SIL didn't eat ham for 9 months Hmm

CallingAllEngels · 25/05/2014 08:29

I would try not to worry haquoi - easier said than done I know. How many weeks are you now? If concerned call NHS direct and see what they say. They may advise to wait and see. If you are in lots of pain then go to a&e. ((hugs))

lindamagoo · 25/05/2014 08:36

I've decided that on Saturday nights I'm going to sleep outside in the kids tent! I can't handle sitting sober while oh and his friend (who's baby is due next month) sit getting pissed, they talk the biggest load of shit and I'm left out cause I'm not on the same drunken wavelength, lol

CallingAllEngels · 25/05/2014 08:37

Re:food. The only things I am advised to avoid here are alcohol, undercooked meat (no bloody medium rare steak ), bagged salads, unpasteurised soft cheeses and vacuum packed smoked fish (so no smoked salmon).

Most of the cheese they sell in supermarkets here are safe, I don't see any reason why you can't eat humous, but I can understand the bean sprouts. There was a major food outbreak in Europe a few years ago because of bacteria on bean sprouts, so I would only eat them cooked in stir fry.

I think eating out is the biggest problem since you don't know the origins of stuff, if it has been washed properly or cooked through enough. I would be careful with seafood in a restaurant but wouldn't hesitate to eat prawns at home because I know DH would make sure they were cooked through enough.

Even wine, one glass is not the end of the world though best avoided in the 1st trimester. I did have a few when pg with DS and he turned out okay Grin We're going to a party next Friday and still not ready to spill to DH's friends so will probably have one glass of wine, though may end up palming it off on DH ifI don't feel like it. A bigger problem willbe staying awake as I've been going to bed at 9 the last week!

CallingAllEngels · 25/05/2014 08:39

Tell them to piss off to OH's friend's house linda or banish them to the tent

haquoi123 · 25/05/2014 08:40

Thanks calling, I'm not in pain at all now. It's just the only spotting I've had so far and pink fresh looking, but not loads or bright red. I'll monitor it and have a more restful day today! I'm not sure - nhs says 6+2 and Emma's diary say 7+2 (with the same info!). I was thinking 5+2 because so many ladies had been put back and I have a long cycle :) Thanks again.

retro I've bought expecting better as well but it still hasn't arrived! So I'm currently flying blind and working off titbits of info, hence the panic over spotting!

MelMc73 · 25/05/2014 08:43

Morning all. Rock of ages waa fantastic and hilarious! Had a lovely night. My friends aren't big drinkers at all so it was okay not drinking. We went for a cocktail after dinner and I had a oeppermint tea....rock n roll lol!

lindamagoo · 25/05/2014 08:43

Calling he's getting told today that it's not happening again, I can't lie awake til 2am coz they r so loud

CallingAllEngels · 25/05/2014 08:48

Some people get so sanctimonious about it retro ! Like really trying to make you feel bad because you're not avoiding everything, like you don't care about your baby! When I was 4/5 months pg with DS we went out for dinner with another couple who were expecting. I had a beer, and she told me she was not only not drinking any alcohol but had cut out caff eine entirely (so turned her nose up at my coke).

And the number of interfering arseholes at work who would meet me at the coffee machine and say, "should you be drinking that?" ...ditto at a wedding when 7 months pg when I dared to drink a glass of champagne.

And if DH told me I couldn't have something I'd tell him to fuck off!

I think as individuals we just have to balance the risks and stress can be just as dangerous (one of my colleagues was advised not to try and give up smoking when pg with her 3rd as she was struggling and the doc said the stress of withdrawl was also damaging - not that I'm advocating smoking while pg!).

Okay, sorry, that was a bit of a rant! My dm was the same retro - running around with toddlers and doing everything when pg. Though she'd probably never heard of brie, humous or tasted smoked salmon!

CallingAllEngels · 25/05/2014 08:52

I love a good peppermint tea mel ! Our mint plant in the garden is looking a bit sorry for itself though, so may have to get a new one. Peppermint tea that you buy in the supermarket is a bit feeble here - we always stock up in Germany when we pop over the border.

Starbright24 · 25/05/2014 08:55

The slugs ate all my mint :(

RetroHippy · 25/05/2014 08:59

haquoi, I was too impatient to wait so got it on kindle for my iPhone Grin

Calling, SIL did have the odd drink but she was fastidious about food. And not in a subtle way, just leaving what she couldn't eat. She'd loudly proclaim 'oh, is this salad washed MIL?' Then get up and wash it in the middle of dinner. But she's always been a bit like that anyway!

And yes to the 'exotic' foods Grin I actually remember the first time DM had smoked salmon; it was Christmas Eve and it then became an annual treat.

I love it and will eat a whole pack in one go, so I'll be hunting for a website that assures me it's fine! I've already told DH there will be no tender, bleeding beef Wellington at Christmas this year. I just couldn't bring myself to watch everyone eat it without me Sad

Booze I'm not fussed about yet but will probably have the occasional small glass.
