Welcome retro. With DS the gp filled out forms for referral to midwife and for the maternity exemption form (for prescriptions etc). Moved to a different area and with this little bean gp asked when last af started and told me to book an appointment with midwife as they work out of the same surgery. So nothing exciting!

Brummiegirl15 · 23/05/2014 20:07

Thanks all - Glenpip so sorry to see your news too. It sucks doesn't it.

DP has been great. I was due to go on a hen do as well this weekend and then hen couldn't have been more lovelier about me not being able to go, for which I'm grateful.

DP was sent out to get Always night ultra as the pads I bought today were useless - soaked within 30 minutes or so. I guess I'm thankful that is just come on suddenly and I know what is happening rather than the waiting and hoping that everything will be ok.

I do really appreciate everyone's lovely comments though - I hope you all have happy healthy pregnancies and much love to those who have lost their little bean

Here is to next time xx

So sorry to hear about the mc today.
Hope you and your partners get through this together- this is when I think I want to tell my mum now incase something happens.

Questions for all the primary school teachers:
When are you planning to tell headteachers?
And when are you planning to start maternity leave?

I'm due 5th jan 2014

A lot of teachers are leaving my school this summer so they'll be a lot of change in September. They are sorting staffing for September in mid June- before my 12 week scan.
I really really don't want to tell them until after that (at the earliest)

School is really stressful at the mo and management are annoying me so don't really want to tell them my happy news(!)

Any thoughts?

Loobyloo893 · 23/05/2014 20:30

Pesto, with DS I was due feb 3rd, my scan was in first week of summer holiday. I told headteacher on the last day of the summer term as I didn't want him finding out from anyone else over the summer holidays. It was a bit later than you though so most of the staffing had been provisionally sorted out when I found out I was pregnant. To be honest I didn't worry too much about staffing issues as I had had two previous miscarriages and wanted to leave it as late as possible to tell him. I wouldn't worry about staffing issues as if this happened any other time of year they would just have to deal with it. Tell them when you're happy to.

Loobyloo893 · 23/05/2014 20:31

And my maternity leave started on the first day of the spring term so that I got paid over the Christmas holidays Smile

Dec2013mummy · 23/05/2014 20:31

Pesto my advice is do what is best for you, not them. I have been royal s* all over this week after telling my boss on Monday, which I thought was best for them as they were interviewing this week. BIG mistake. If your boss has ever been unreasonable this will give them too much ammunition to be even more so.... Sorry needed a rant anyway :)

haquoi123 · 23/05/2014 20:44

Brummie, I'm so sorry to hear about your mc. My thoughts are with you and your DP.

Re: maternity leave - is anyone else here self-employed? I'm a musician/ workshop leader/ music teacher and am a bit worried about losing work. I want to take at least 2 months off but it depends on how long people are willing to wait. There's no way we can afford childcare after so both of us will be taking turns at home and part-time...

Pesto11 · 23/05/2014 20:57

If my 12 week scan date doesn't fall on a school day and I don't need time off for the appointment then I'm hoping they won't know I'm pregnant till they see me in August!
They are not being kind managers to staff at the moment and I don't need to hear anything from them right now so I might stay quiet for as long as I can...

As for Mat leave- I want to wait till first day of spring term (5th jan) but that's also my edd!
If I work till last day of autumn term I'll be 37.5 weeks... It's my first baby ... Not sure how I'll be...
Think I could cope till end of term and then enjoy 2 weeks off for Xmas hols -as long as baby isn't early!

Wondering if it'll be better just to start mat leave 5th dec. have a month off! Agghhh I'm only 7weeks- need to chill out !!!

Loobyloo893 · 23/05/2014 21:14

Pesto, even if scan is in a school day just tell them you have a hospital appointment. You don't have to tell them what it's for. I had an early scan and just told head it was "women's problems " he didn't say another word Grin
As for mat leave I think you have until 25 weeks before you have to tell them so you've got a while to decide. And the last couple of weeks before Christmas is not much work anyway Wink

Pesto11 · 23/05/2014 21:28

They're waiting for me to say I'm pregnant so any sign of a hospital appt (from someone who has never had a sick day) will be suspicious.
Anyway, I shall do what's right for me and bump.
For once the school can be last on my list of things to worry about!
Yes I'm hoping the final week will be nativities and parties! : )
Time to enjoy half term!!! X

Hi Pesto , I totally agree with what everyone else said so far, especially given the circumstances in your own school. I also totally get the 'not wanting to share the happy news'; I despise some of my SLT profoundly (they are two-faced hugely discriminatory against women...despite being female!) and the thought of them congratulating me makes me retch!

dec2013 what happened? You sounded so positive last time you mentioned work, sorry it's gone sour...

Brummie and Glen : sending you warm comforting cuddles and strength. You both sound so incredibly on top of it and brave. I have everything crossed for you for a healthy baby in the very near future Thanks

Dec2013mummy · 23/05/2014 23:15

Thanks for the concern mademoiselle, it's a long story but basically found out some news today of things that are really going on that have really got to me. My unions have already wanted to come in on a few occasions over the past 18 months with things that have happened. I had never contacted unions before them but had to last year to cover my own back and I'm glad I did as I have needed the support. I will have to inform them of this new development and to be honest im at breaking point with it so I think I may let them actually come in if they want to this time.

Pesto definitely look after number one :)

deuscat · 23/05/2014 23:32

Glenpip and brummiegirl so so sorry to hear if your miscarriages. Take time to get through this it's awful but I promise it gets easier with time. Wishing you both all the very best for a healthy pregnancy in the future.

I've not posted in ages due to being busy with work but I've been reading.

English I'm sorry your scan didn't go to plan but hopefully you'll have a better outcome when you go again in a few weeks.

The nausea is really dampening my appetite. Can't wait to get past this stage!

LMSunshine · 24/05/2014 05:25

Glenpip and brummie girl really sorry to hear you news x.

I also haven't posted for a while but have been reading and its reassuring that my symptoms are similar to many others. Fed up of waking at 5.00 every morning, but found eating biscuits is helping nausea. I just have to sneek them in to mouth as my dd aged 3 keeps asking me what's in my mouth :-)

Starbright24 · 24/05/2014 06:16

Brummie and glen - sorry for your news and good luck in the future.
Awake at 5 today - ate some dry crackers in an attempt to hold off ms but now sat next to bog. - they didn't work.
I'm thinking about telling my school just after half term. Others there keep on going on about how important spring term is (I'm in yr 6) and we don't find it easy to get new experienced staff where we are.
hoping to be able to start maternity leave at spring term start.
right...off back to sleep now. Hopefully

RetroHippy · 24/05/2014 06:46

Glen and Brummie, so sorry to hear your news. Flowers

I am a primary teacher, but only have a temp contract until end of August. I was meant to be interviewing for a permanent post but the interview was cancelled the day before I got my bfp. I won't be interviewing for it now, as the head is not particularly pleasant to anyone who inconveniences her by having a child! If they offer me another year temporary instead of readvertising I'll tell them then and suggest I do a term. Otherwise I will be telling my lovely TA when I start throwing up, and possibly the deputy, who is also lovely and leaving anyway.

I'm hoping to get my 12 week scan on my PPA day the day before the last day of summer term. I shall stick my scan pic up in the staff room and skippity off to my autumn of supply with a huge grin!

RetroHippy · 24/05/2014 06:47

Should say, the perm contract is in my current school and class. So yes, I was interviewing for my own job Hmm

MelMc73 · 24/05/2014 07:03

Sorry to hear your news Brummie. Hope you are being looked after well x

haquoi I'm sort of self employed. I'm a director owner of a limited company and responsible for a third of our profits....there's three of us. My strategy for maternity leave is damage limitation! Part of my monthly salary us paid as a dividend which I'm still entitled to whether I'm working or not but someone needs to earn this money for the business to pay it out! I waa considering 4 to 6 months off then 2 days a week after that for while then increase it again. I can work at home anytime of the day so it's quite flexible. You just have to do what works financially and for the family x

On a lighter note I am super excited today. Off to see Rock of Ages musical with some girlfriends thus afternoon....we've all got rock chic outfits organised! Should be a laugh!

j200 · 24/05/2014 07:15

Morning ladies, am back from hols and catching up, so sorry to hear recent losses Hmm but lots of good news on scans too.

So nausea kicked in mid holiday at 7 weeks and was horrendous yesterday, literally felt sick all day and had metallic taste in mouth which even constant crisp and tic tac eating didn't help, however this morning I don't feel nauseous at all yet- do other peoples symptoms fluctuate too? Starting to panic something is wrong now!

j200 · 24/05/2014 07:17

I must confess I also had a few Greek salads and didn't realise feta was on the bad list... worrying now about food poisoning from the salad(in case wasn't washed enough) and cheese.... Confused

EnglishGirlsReturned · 24/05/2014 07:34

J200, glad you had a nice holiday but sorry your ms kicked in. Don't worry about the symptoms fluctuating, I think its quite normal. And don't worry about the feta cheese - its on the NHS safe list Smile

EnglishGirlsReturned · 24/05/2014 07:35

and i'm sure you'd know about it if you'd had food poisoning!

j200 · 24/05/2014 07:59

Thanks English Smile nothing like a bit of Saturday morning pregnancy paranoia

Have good days everyone despite the weather!

j200 · 24/05/2014 08:00

Ps Mel rock of ages sounds awesome. Have fun!
