London Jen in Oct I would have thought a cardy and blanket would be fine I've got a snowsuit just incase its cold though

Loulou888 · 30/05/2014 21:16

I was going to say london depends on temp when you have baby. I'm end of oct so will have one.

Yes gunwalloe they are safe some have anaesthetic like the germolene brands which make things a little better. Just check with pharmacist when you buy. I ended up at the doctors for cream as it's free!

ohthegoats · 30/05/2014 21:18

Two kids under 2? Wow...

It did get me thinking though. I always assumed we'd just have the one, but if we could do it straight away we might get away with my age. Could I do two lots of injecting heparin back to back? Could boyfriend put up with me being a boring cow for 2 years in a row?

More to the point, how do people afford child care?

Loulou888 · 30/05/2014 21:21

It didn't pay for me to go back to work goats luckily I managed to get some stuff to do at home.

tak1ngchances · 30/05/2014 21:30

I have a huge pile about the size of a grape. It popped out last week and I've been applying anusol every day. Disgusting

ohthegoats · 30/05/2014 21:31

While I think of it, I have a pokey sort of pain below my belly button on the right hand side of my bump. Feels in the 'bump' not behind it. I thought I'd pulled something while swinging a pickaxe around on Monday, because it's sort of given me a twangy pain all week (especially when I turn over quickly in bed, or stand up too quickly), but it's not going anywhere, despite my having had a lazy week.

Ligament pain? Or something I should be worried about? Baby is still roaming around and kicking me, so seems 'ok', but my whole tummy area feels quite tender. I'm preferring wearing leggings because they are sort of holding the bump in.

gunwalloe · 30/05/2014 21:35

Taking is the cream helping?

Perhaps a pulled muscle goats? But if it worrys you maybe nest to see a doc. Have you met your midwife yet?

ohthegoats · 30/05/2014 21:43

Nope, still no midwife! Tried to call three times this week too (about Mat1B or whatever form), and no one has called me back. I've left voicemails and also messages with the receptionist at the clinic - no response. Have got consultant appointment for Doppler scan on Wednesday, so hopefully can sort stuff out then. This is why I'm about to pay loads of money for a doula!

gunwalloe · 30/05/2014 21:46

That's such a joke goats of you weren't under a consultant you wouldn't be getting any care :(

Is the Doppler for the heart?

Loulou888 · 30/05/2014 21:47

It will help a little gun don't expect miracles unfortunately.

Loulou888 · 30/05/2014 21:48

ThTs terrible goats

YellowWellies · 30/05/2014 22:00

Goats that's terrible! [co

Apparently putting any baby in a car seat in a snowsuit is now a big no-no. In an accident the bulky fabric would compress and the baby would fly out of the seat restraints. Don't Google the terrifying videos online! Even in the freezing cold of a snowy northern isles autumn day we were made to take him out of the snowsuit to pop him in the car seat and he was a weeny 6lb bag of skin and bones. Hence the popularity of star blankets - warm and snuggly but thin enough to be safe in a car seat.

ohthegoats · 30/05/2014 22:08

I know, it's a bit annoying. I got booked in by a midwife, but at the hospital on a Saturday, who put me in the system for the consultant stuff. She wasn't one of my local ones (there are two groups in my town), so I've not met one of the local ones. Then I didn't have my 12 week scan with the NHS, and was told not to book a midwife appointment on the same week as a consultant appointment came through - so no 16 week appointment locally either.

Not sure what to do about it really, other than hire a doula so I have a bit of continuity around the whole birth process.

ExcitedCJ · 30/05/2014 23:53

Goats I think this might be one occasion where preg rage is an advantage!! I would not accept that, surely there is a clinic manager or someone you can ask for help?
Although with DC1 I didn't have a midwife & just attended 12 wk scan & 20 wk scan at hospital. Found out later I should have just booked an appt at GP clinic for 16wks & 24wks!

I got fitted for a bra today, was a cup size out (wearing too big) & wow! What a difference. I now feel like I have 2 boobs & 1 bump instead of all 3 blending into 1 huge big mound! 34F Anita Maternity bra. I feel like a new woman now!

Grannyapple · 31/05/2014 07:22

Yes 2 under 2...& 3 under 4...paying for 2 in childcare at the mo is bloody hard! I earn a good safe too & it's tough money wise so I can totally see how it must be more financially viable for some to not go back to work..

I'm hoping if I take a year off, DS will have started school so just ocassional pick ups to sort & maybe ocassionally after school clubs..& then other 2 in nursery. But even that might mean my total wage on childcare, vs a bit left over for me at present. Aaargh....decisions!!

goats your lack of care given to you is shocking...defo make appt with GP at least & I would try to contact Supervisor of midwives at hospital...sounds like you defo need to take it further..

Grannyapple · 31/05/2014 07:23

Safe=wage!

fedupofrainydays · 31/05/2014 08:31

Yes with my first preg I didn't have a mw, I saw my gp. But had to book it all myself and then when I turned up the gp would ask 'so why are you here, what am I supposed to be doing?' I was like, um.... "You tell me, you are the doctor and I'm pregnant for first time and don't have a clue"! We then moved when I was about 30 weeks and there was a whole team of mws in my area now! So goats you should see gp for those regular checks I think.

I don't know how people can afford to return to work with two on childcare either. Round here it's like £80 a day per child! I've not got a low salat either but it would make me question the point as would hardly take home anything after childcare!

fedupofrainydays · 31/05/2014 08:37

Also I think babies could get too hot in snow suits in the car. They will be only blasted with cold for short time from hospital door to car anyway! Ds only wore a snow suit when it snowed (funnily enough!) or was v icy and we went out for walks in the pram / carrier. In October, it really wasn't that cold (but I live down south) when we left hospital and came home. Think ds was just in bodysuit and sleep suit with cardi or blanket (can't remember!)

Was having a no movement panic yesterday, but think have felt baby this morning so feeling a bit better.

Loulou888 · 31/05/2014 10:34

granny you are going to be busy! Will be a very close little family though which will be lovely

bumpbangbump · 31/05/2014 11:40

We need another new thread ladies. Who would like to do the honors this time? Half way there and on the homeward straight!

22+2 for me today and I was surprised at how regular my mW appts seem considering it's my second. I would jus call the local children's centre and ask to make an appt at the midwife clinic goats It's not good that you've been left like that.

Congrats on more good scans, seems we're pretty even with boys and girls so far... Will be so exciting to find out our final count when all the green babies are born.

My friend at work has just announced she is pregnant, I've known since she found out as that's when I told her I was pregnant. Had to pretend it was brand new information... Was quite fun!
